The Fasano Zoosafari, biodiversity in 6 stages, including a surprise

Giraffe in Fasano apulia safari zoo Italy

In Europe in terms of the number of species it hosts. At 140 hectares, it is a true oasis of biodiversity and, in the spirit of modern zoos, plays an important role in protecting and safeguarding many endangered species.

Close encounters

Immersed in nature and surrounded by a wide range of animals of all species, welcomed and cared for in complete freedom, the Zoosafari is a natural paradise where you can spend a day full of emotions and unforgettable encounters : meet the lion that yawns as soon as he wakes up, see the hippos bathing under the branches, make way for a line of busy zebras or let yourself be mimicked by a cheeky chimpanzee . Everywhere you look there is a surprise, something to explore.

The park is divided into various areas , plus the final surprise: the FasanoLandia park, dedicated to entertainment, the crowning glory of a visit to Fasano.

First stage by car: the Safari

This is the “wildest” part, a 6-kilometre-long adrenaline-filled route that can only be completed by car, camper van or bus. A real safari among the centuries-old olive and carob trees of the Mediterranean maquis, where it is possible to observe, at close quarters, as many as 3,000 animals of 200 different species : the animals of the savannah, lions, tigers, giraffes, gazelles, elephants, zebras, bison ; roaming free and mixed with species belonging to different ecosystems: ostriches, llamas, camels and dromedaries , as well as deer and flamingos .

Second stage on foot: the Primates' Area

After the car tour, the visit continues on foot. Completely immersed in the greenery, the pedestrian route has other thrilling surprises in store: you will enter the lively world of primates , who are often so astonishingly similar to us: from the beloved gorilla Riù, the real star of the park, to the hyperactive chimpanzees , and then the herd of very friendly lemurs, the docile alpacas , the lycaons and various large birds .

Third stage with the Metrozoo: the Lake of Large Mammals

Once the pedestrian route is over, it's time to get back on board a new means of transport, this time the Metrozoo , a monorail with a panoramic view which, skimming over the tree tops, takes visitors into a new realm, this time an aquatic one: a small lake scattered with islets and topped by a small waterfall is home to a varied group of seals , hippos , singing gibbons and, surprisingly, brown bears and polar bears. And on the way back, there is the noisy monkey village with its very lively and busy guests.

Fourth stage: The Tropical Room, the Reptile House/Aquarium

Still within the pedestrian area, the itinerary continues indoors, in the Tropical Room , an air-conditioned tent covering about 700 square metres hosting reptiles , fish and various invertebrates . Here, visitors can get up close to all kinds of snakes , both poisonous and non-poisonous ( boas, pythons, rattlesnakes, vipers ), freshwater and land tortoises , saurians, iguanas, monitor lizards, geckos, chameleons, alligators , as well as giant spiders, scorpions and butterflies .

Zoosafari di Fasano: A Journey Between Wild Fauna and Fun

Zoosafari di Fasano is distinguished by its dual offering, divided into two main thematic areas that ensure different and fascinating experiences: Zoo Safari and Fasanolandia .

The heart of the park is represented by the Zoo Safari , a vast area that offers an immersive adventure aboard your own car. Visitors can travel a circuit that crosses various habitats, each hosting different species of exotic animals. The route is designed to provide a true safari experience, with the opportunity to observe closely animals such as lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and rhinoceroses.

The spaces are large and carefully designed to best replicate the animals' natural environments. This allows them to move and behave as they would in their natural habitat.

The car-based visit allows for maintaining a safe distance, thus ensuring adequate protection for both the animals and the visitors, avoiding disturbance. The close-up observation provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty and majesty of wildlife in an environment that strives to respect their natural needs.

Fasanolandia

Adjacent to the safari, Fasanolandia represents the section dedicated to pure fun and entertainment. This amusement park is designed to offer a range of attractions and rides suitable for all ages. It is a lively and colorful area where families and visitors can enjoy various recreational activities.

Fasanolandia boasts a wide selection of rides for children, mechanical games, and live shows. Each attraction is designed to offer moments of fun and entertainment, creating a vibrant contrast with the more contemplative safari experience.

The thematic areas and recreational activities make this part of the park ideal for those seeking a carefree and dynamic outing, thus providing a complete day of entertainment

Visiting the Zoosafari di Fasano

The drive-through safari usually lasts about 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic and driving pace.

The route is well-signposted and divided into thematic areas that replicate various natural habitats. The road is paved and designed to ensure safe driving through the different zones of the park.

Wildlife to Observe

Lions and Tigers: These predators live in spacious enclosures that simulate their African and Asian origins. You might see lions lounging in the sun, tigers exploring their space, or hunting as they would in the wild. The enclosures are designed to offer a clear view while maintaining a safety barrier between the animals and visitors.

Elephants: The elephants live in an area resembling the savanna, with ample space to move freely and interact with each other. You might see elephants feeding, playing with objects, or bathing. Often, visitors can also spot young calves approaching, making the experience particularly enchanting.

Giraffes and Zebras: These animals are housed in enclosures that simulate the expansive plains of the African savanna. Giraffes can be seen feeding from trees, while zebras move around in groups. The giraffes, with their long necks, can come close to vehicles, providing excellent photographic opportunities.

Rhinoceroses and Hippopotamuses: These animals live in spaces that replicate their natural environments, such as wetlands for hippos and prairies for rhinos. Hippos are often visible while bathing or resting in water, while rhinos can be spotted grazing or moving around their habitat.

Thematic Zones

African Savannah: This section of the park is designed to replicate the savanna, with wide grassy areas and few trees, where animals such as giraffes, zebras, and rhinos can be observed. The expansive views and the chance to see animals in motion make this section particularly scenic and interesting.

Asian Forest: This area replicates a denser, shadier environment, similar to Asian forests. Here, you will find animals such as tigers and other mammals from the Asian region. This habitat is designed to provide shelters and exploration areas for shyer and more reserved animals.

Ungulate Zone: An area dedicated to ungulates, such as deer and antelopes, with spaces that mimic their natural habits and behaviors. You will see different groups of animals living together, interacting with each other and their surroundings.

Zoosafari during the Holidays

Zoosafari di Fasano stands out not only for its fascinating safari route but also for its festive and special events that enrich the visitor experience.

These events are organized to offer unique entertainment moments and create extraordinary atmospheres throughout the park.

During seasonal holidays, such as Christmas and New Year’s , the park undergoes a complete transformation. The atmosphere is enhanced by festive decorations, sparkling lights, and Christmas-themed setups that bring a magical environment to life. Visitors can enjoy Christmas shows, meet Santa Claus, and participate in various family activities.

Similarly, during Halloween , the park adopts a spooky and fun atmosphere. Themed decorations, haunted mazes, and special activities offer an immersive experience that excites visitors of all ages.

Additionally, the park hosts themed parties throughout the year, which may be related to particular cultures, musical celebrations, or other special occasions. These events often include live performances, games, and themed activities taking place in different areas of the park, providing moments of leisure and fun.

Educational and special events are another significant part of the park's offerings. Environmental education days and conservation efforts allow visitors to participate in seminars, workshops, and meetings with wildlife and plant experts.

These events aim to raise awareness and educate the public on important issues related to nature and animal protection.

Furthermore, wildlife days celebrate specific animal species or conservation themes, with activities and presentations offering a deeper understanding of biodiversity and conservation.

During these special events, the park is decorated and set up to reflect the day's theme. The rides and attractions may be themed to offer unique fun experiences, while the food and beverages available at the park's stands and restaurants often follow the event theme, offering special treats that further enhance the visitor experience.

Safety and Behavior: Driving and Rules

Maintain Distance: It is crucial to keep a safe distance from the animals and not to leave your vehicle.

Follow Rules: Adhere to the park's guidelines and specific rules for the visit, such as not feeding the animals and not using flash photography.

Limited Interaction: Although the drive-through allows for close viewing, it is important to respect the animals' behavior and not attempt to interact directly with them.

Visitor Services

Picnic Areas and Dining: The park offers well-equipped picnic areas where visitors can enjoy an outdoor meal immersed in nature. These areas have tables and benches and are strategically placed to provide a resting point during the visit.

Additionally, the park’s restaurants and refreshment stands offer a variety of food options, from hot and cold dishes to snacks and beverages, catering to different tastes and dietary needs. Some restaurants may also offer specific children's menus and dishes suitable for vegetarians or people with food intolerances.

Souvenir Shops: Inside the park, there are several souvenir shops selling gadgets and themed items related to animals and nature. These shops offer a selection of products such as toys, plush animals, clothing, and collectible items that allow visitors to take home a memento of their experience.

Assistance and Information: Information points are available throughout the park where visitors can seek assistance and obtain detailed information about attractions, services, and ongoing activities. The staff is trained to provide support and answer questions, helping to make the visit as smooth as possible.

Wildlife Conservation and Education

Conservation projects.

The Zoo Safari de Fasano is also distinguished by its commitment to wildlife conservation. By participating in local and international conservation projects, the park plays an active role in protecting endangered species.

These projects include captive breeding programs for threatened species, aimed at supporting their population and, if possible, reintroducing them into their natural habitats.

The park collaborates with global conservation organizations to support initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity and combating environmental threats such as deforestation and poaching. Additionally, the zoo contributes financially and logistically to protection and research projects in various regions of the world, amplifying the impact of its conservation efforts.

Educational Programs

The Zoo Safari de Fasano is also dedicated to educating and raising public awareness about environmental conservation and animal protection. To this end, the park offers a variety of educational programs aimed at schools, groups, and families.

Educational programs include themed guided tours, interactive workshops, and educational activities that allow participants to deepen their knowledge about animals and their habitats. Children and students can learn the basics of animal biology and ecology, as well as discover the challenges wildlife faces in their natural environments.

The educational activities are designed to be engaging and stimulating, using resources such as informational panels, interactive models, and educational games. The goal is to promote a respectful and caring attitude towards animals and the environment, encouraging new generations to become informed and active citizens in the protection of nature.

History and Foundation of the Zoo Safari de Fasano

The Zoo Safari de Fasano has a long and fascinating history that began in 1973, the year of its inauguration. It is one of the pioneers of safari parks in Italy, created with the vision of offering an immersive experience that replicates the natural environment of the animals. Founded by a group of wildlife enthusiasts and environmentalists, the park started with a limited number of species and has progressively expanded its offerings.

Initially, the Zoo Safari de Fasano was relatively modest, but it soon attracted attention for its innovative concept of a drive-through safari.

The idea of allowing visitors to explore the area in their own vehicles, observing animals in their natural environment, was a novel concept in the landscape of Italian zoological parks. This approach met with great success and led the park to expand its facilities and diversify the species it housed.

Over the years, the zoo has added new thematic areas and numerous animal species. This development has been driven not only by the desire to enrich the visitor experience but also by a growing commitment to the care and conservation of animals.

The park's growth has paralleled the evolution of best practices in animal management and welfare, solidifying its reputation as a major tourist and zoological attraction.

Zoosafari's hillside setting

Zoosafari's big attraction is its expansive safari which visitors can drive around in their own cars. However, there is also a sizeable amusement park to explore as well.

The park is set on a hillside, meaning there is quite a bit of climbing steps involved in navigating between the various levels.

A climb to the top is well worth it though to take a ride on the park's Eurofighter rollercoaster, imaginatively named Eurofighter (or "Eurofigther" as an unfortunate mistake on the ride sign has it). Although it is a fairly standard Eurofighter layout, it still feels quite special. You certainly can't fault the views from the top of the vertical lift.

One of the museum's more risqué exhibits

One of the museum's more risqué exhibits

Less welcome is Mirage Rosso, an inverted coaster from Fabbri. There are only two other rollercoasters of this model anywhere in the world - one in China and one in Kazakhstan. It's not surprising that it hasn't been a best seller. If you think Vekoma SLCs are bad, you'll think again after riding this. It beats you up every opportunity it gets, and then smacks you in the head a few more times just because it can.

Thankfully, much more pleasant is Zoosafari's classic Zyklon Galaxi, known as Montagne Russe. Now over thirty years old, it still gives a good ride and feels like an old steel rollercoaster should.

Several theme parks in Italy seem obsessed by model dinosaurs and Zoosafari is no exception, although its display can be seen alongside the rather quirky and out-of-place museum of various old fashioned arts, crafts, machinery and, well, junk. It's not bad, it's just all a bit odd. Amongst farming machinery and an old cash register, there is even a display of chastity belts. You don't see those at many theme parks, or indeed in many museums!

Zoosafari Fasanolandia: The Best Car Safari in Italy

We’re constantly learning about what it takes to travel with a child. For the most part, our expedition style hasn’t changed, but we’ve certainly noticed a few differences. As parents, it’s difficult to not realize how many activities and attractions are geared towards kids. Whether it’s motorized toys you can rent by the minute or carousels in the park, the opportunity to entertain children at our expense exists everywhere .

Naturally, when we saw the consistent advertising of Zoosafari Fasanolandia throughout Puglia, we knew we just had to visit. Luckily, our experience ended up being just as much for us parents as it was for our daughter!

In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know before planning a fabulous visit to Zoosafari in Fasano.

And Where Is Zoosafari Fasanolandia?

  • Why You Should Visit

How Much Do Tickets Cost?

Where should you purchase tickets, when is zoosafari open, can you feed the animals, can you drive through with your windows down, how long does the drive through take, are dogs allowed, arrive before opening or during lunch hours, pack a lunch, be mindful of show times, scope out the park map beforehand, how to get to zoosafari in fasano, where to stay while visiting zoosafari.

  • Is Zoosafari Worth Visiting?

Car Safari in Puglia

What is Zoosafari Fasanolandia?

Zoosafari Fasanolandia is a combined theme park which consists of both an amusement park and an animal park . It is most known for its drive-through safari , which makes up the Zoosafari portion of the park.

Zoosafari is impressively the second-largest drive-through zoo in all of Europe and a prominent destination in Fasano altogether. Fasanolandia is the park’s other half and resembles a traditional theme park with rides, exhibits, and even an aquarium. Additional highlights of the theme park include a theatre, reptile house, monkey village, and a couple of small museums.

→ 🚘 Book a rental car from Bari Airport ←

Although the overall park is divided into two main components (Zoosafari and Fasanolandia), access to both typically goes hand in hand. A bit more on this below, but by purchasing tickets to Zoosafari, a visit to Fasanolandia is also included. On the other hand, it is possible to solely visit Fasanolandia without completing the drive-through safari. In short, there’s a ton to see and do at Zoosafari, but it can get confusing when planning your visit due to the way ticket sales are structured.

As the name suggests, Zoosafari Fasanolandia is located near the town of Fasano. Fasano is situated in southern Italy, specifically in the beautiful region of Puglia . It is 60 km (37 miles) from Puglia’s capital of Bari and less than a one-hour drive from Bari’s international airport.

Amusement Park in Puglia

Is Zoosafari Fasanolandia Worth Visiting?

Puglia is one of Italy’s most beloved summer destinations. There is no shortage of gorgeous beaches to enjoy, seafood to devour, and charming towns to explore. With that being said, Zoosafari is likely on your radar for only two reasons.

  • You are an animal enthusiast and thoroughly enjoy zoo visits.
  • You are travelling with kids.

For those who resonate with the first reason, it makes complete sense to be interested in visiting a well-curated and straight-up fun animal experience . Sure, a zoo is one thing, but it’s hard to find someone who wouldn’t like a drive-through safari. How often can you come across the chance to see wild animals without being confined to small cages, all while in the comfort of your own car?

There are unfortunately many zoos out there that do not have the best interest of animals at heart. Zoosafari is not one of them, and their dedication to research programs, conservation of species, and education to the public takes the first priority.

It doesn’t take much to persuade any parent with children to visit Zoosafari. Whether your family is a lover of animals or not, Zoosafari and Fasanolandia effortlessly provides entertainment for kids of all ages . Particularly for any family who has done the beach and the aqua parks, the animal park is an excellent choice for switching it up. After all, fellow parents will understand that we’re just here to serve our children and their attention span! (Kind of only kidding).

Zoo in Puglia

Zoosafari Fasanolandia FAQs

Our least favorite part about Zoosafari Fasanolandia is the price. Compared to a typical zoo, admission fees are a bit costly . On top of that, the ticket structure is more complicated than it should be. During our visit, we paid for a Zoosafari ticket, which costs €32 per adult and €25 per child (free for children under 4 years old).

Aside from the main feature which consists of the drive-through safari, this type of ticket gives you access to Fasanolandia. However, it does not include entrance to the aquarium or any rides.

If you omit the safari altogether, a ticket to just Fasanolandia costs €18 per adult and children over four years old. For those eager to go on amusement park rides, this type of ticket is recommended since it includes six rides. Lastly, the third type of ticket, which is an add-on to the Zoosafari and Fasanolandia ticket, is admission to the Aquarium. A ticket to the Sea Lion Aquarium costs €10.

One of the best things about visiting the Zoosafari complex is that you can walk up and purchase tickets on the spot . There is no need to buy tickets upfront or online before arriving. This is the most ideal scenario for families who tend to make last minute plans like us.

As soon as the park is open, you will line up at the ticket booth while in your car if you’re headed to the drive-through safari. If you’re only visiting Fasanolandia, you can park your car and then walk to the kiosk to buy entry tickets. Reservations are also never required unless you have special requests or are traveling in a very large group.

Zoosafari Bears

To fully experience Zoosafari, plan a visit during April to September . This is the period when the park is completely open and operational, with regular visiting hours, shows, and exhibits. Outside of these months, the park is occasionally open with certain conditions. For example, in February, March, and October, you can only experience the drive-through safari on specific dates, while Fasanolandia (the theme park) remains closed. Additionally, there are special events during holidays such as Christmas and Halloween.

For Zoosafari (drive-through animal park), it is possible to purchase tickets and begin the tour from 9:30 to 15:00. Fasanolandia, which includes the amusement park with rides and other features like the theater and museums, is available from 10:00 to 16:00. These opening hours are only applicable from April to September.

By the park’s official rules, it’s not allowed to feed the animals or attract them towards you with food. It’s advised to follow this regulation while touring the safari because you may not know how animals will react. It’s a bit different than feeding pigeons at the park! In a worst-case scenario, the safari animals may cause damage to your car or you if you attract them with your own food.

Ironically, as you approach the entrance and parking area for the park, you’ll see a ton of roadside vendors. Each of them is selling plastic bags of food geared towards the zoo animals, typically carrots or even peanuts. Clearly, these vendors are not associated with the actual zoo, and that’s why you’ll see them making their sales before the park grounds.

Similar to Zoosafari’s stance on feeding animals, you’re technically not allowed to drive through the safari with your windows down. There are signs posted in multiple areas of the park prohibiting this for safety and liability reasons. However, this is where we slightly broke the rules, but only when it made sense. For example, the drive-through route begins with a large section of many goats, donkeys, and some horses.

There was not one car among ours that did not have their windows down and sticking their arms out to pet the animals. How can you resist a friendly lick from a farm animal?

As you get further into the excursion and into high-risk sections like the tigers, it’s probably not a good idea to treat them like goats. Additionally, the guards staged in these areas are more alert and will remind you to put your window up.

Overall, we kept our windows closed at all times in the backseat for our daughter but kept ours cracked open in order to take better photos. Use your best judgment with this one!

Things to do in Puglia with kids

Driving through the safari can take 30 minutes or over one hour. It completely depends on how long you stop at each animal species and take the time to observe or admire. There were some animals to which our daughter was glued to and didn’t want to leave. Other animals were shy or not visible, so we zipped on by. Secondly, the time to complete the route will also depend on the number of other visitors accompanying you. After all, it’s a drive, which means there will either be a lot of traffic or not.

To our surprise, we saw a handful of dogs joining their human owners at Zoosafari. The dogs were even seen in the Fasanolandia theme park, which has access to the aquarium, monkey village, and reptile house. We believe there is a size limit for dogs allowed inside , as all of the pups we saw were rather small. If your dog isn’t large and is well mannered, bring them along!

Tips for Visiting Zoosafari Fasanolandia

This tip seems to apply to any frequented attraction or even beach, particularly in Italy. Arriving early is only effective if you get there before doors open so you are at the front of the line. If you arrive at opening hour, there will already be many cars ahead of you which cause traffic throughout the safari course.

We learned from our mistake, and when we visit Zoosafari again, we will likely arrive around 12:30pm when most people (Italians in particular) will start to leave for lunch instead.

Car Safari in Fasano

On the subject of lunch, it’s recommended that you pack your own sandwich or something easy to bring along with you. There are a handful of kiosks selling food inside Fasanolandia, but they are overpriced and of low quality. We were definitely not the only ones taking a picnic break in our car after the drive-through safari and before entering the theme park.

If you’re keen on catching a show at the theatre, aquarium, reptile house, or any other special performance, consider planning your visit around the show times . Unfortunately, show times vary and they’re not on a structured schedule (or published online). But there are two ways to confirm this beforehand. First, you can ask the ticket booth when you first arrive for all the show times. Alternatively, you can email Zoosafari in advance if you like to plan well ahead.

For us, seeing the performances was not a critical aspect of our visit so we played it by ear. Still, we were pleasantly surprised to catch a dog show by chance as we walked by the theatre.

Parents who are traveling with young children will likely want to avoid as much backtracking and wandering in the wrong direction as possible. We know from experience that there is nothing worse than disappointing a toddler by ending up at the wrong ride or attraction. Luckily, when you purchase your admission tickets, you’ll also receive a copy of the park map (for both Zoosafari and Fasanolandia) .

The drive-through safari is very straightforward because it’s just one road and designed for you to see all of the animals. Fasanolandia is less intuitive, and the signs placed within the park don’t really point in the correct directions. Using the physical map to navigate the amusement park is best. It will give you a good preview of the layout instead of cluelessly walking around.

The town of Fasano is conveniently located right off the E55 motorway. The zoo and park are then situated on a hill just up the street from Fasano’s centre. Reaching Zoosafari Fasanolandia by car is by far the quickest way.

Zoosafari’s distance from a few major cities and towns in Puglia includes:

  • Bari to Zoosafari – 60 km (37 miles)
  • Alberobello to Zoosafari – 16 km (10 miles)
  • Monopoli to Zoosafari – 18 km (11 miles)
  • Brindisi to Zoosafari – 66 km (41 miles)

BY TRAIN: Reaching Fasano by train is possible, but the station is located 3 km from the town center. There is a bus that regularly shuttles passengers from the Fasano train station into town. However, there is no bus that departs from Fasano’s town center to Zoosafari park. You would need to catch a taxi or walk the remainder of the journey.

Ever wonder what it’s like to sleep at a theme park? Zoosafari has a few options for guests looking to stay directly at the park and zoo. If you’re looking to make the animal park a focal point of your trip, spending the night or two can be super appealing to families with kids. Minimize travel time and maximize park time!

Final Thoughts on Visiting Zoosafari Fasanolandia

If you are looking for our honest review of Zoosafari Fasanolandia, then we’d quickly tell you, yes, it’s worth a visit. It may not make the traditional list of the best things to do in Puglia but if you have the time, it won’t disappoint. As if we haven’t mentioned it enough, it’s especially a no-brainer if you are traveling with kids . To simplify our recommendation further, let’s break it down to pros and cons!

  • The drive-through safari is excellent and good old-fashioned fun for all. There is a great variety of animals , and the route is well-maintained and designed.
  • The Zoosafari ticket gives you automatic access to the pedestrian zone and Fasanolandia. It’s a good value to see additional exhibits like the reptile house, monkey village, and museums.
  • There is plenty of parking, so you do not need to stress about sold-out tickets or availability.
  • Much less affordable than a traditional zoo.
  • For the price of admission, it feels like access to the Aquarium should also be included.
  • Parking is also not free in the designated lots and costs around €3 for the whole day.

Zoosafari Fasanolandia, a wildlife safari and amusement park

The southern-Italian region of Apulia is the perfect destination for a weekend trip or beach vacation. Eating delicious food , sunbathing and exploring dreamy towns are not the only activities waiting for you in the region – you can also experience fascinating wildlife first hand!

The nature park Zoosafari Fasanolandia is the second biggest animal park in Europe and just a 40-minute drive away from Bari . It is located in the Apulian town of Fasano, which is part of the commune of Brindisi and has over 40000 inhabitants. The wildlife and amusement area consist out of multiple parks, which guarantees an enjoyable and diverse adventure.

safari park puglia italy

The main attraction is the safari park. You are driving with your own vehicle to observe the animals living in a spacious area adapted to their needs. At the beginning of the safari, there are animals, such as deers and water buffalos followed by an area full of lions, tigers and black bears. After leaving the area of predators you will be able to see many other exotic animals such as monkeys, zebras, giraffes, emus, and camels. The last section of the Safari offers a close look on feather animals like flamingos, peacocks, and cranes.

The drive through the wildlife area is usually about an hour long and afterwards you can continue your exploration tour on foot. The first section is a tropical room with alligators, snakes, lizards and turtles. On the over 60 000 m² wildlife park, there is also a water area with large mammals, tropical birds, dolphins, a penguin house and many primate species.

Often, there are also animal shows with dolphins, sea lions, and penguins, showing off their tricks with their trainers.

safari park puglia italy

Except for amazing experiences with animals, Zoosafari Fasanolandia offers also many different amusement park attractions. There are numerous roller coasters, some for children and some for adrenaline junkies, water rides, fairy wheels, and even a 4D cinema. Fasanolandia is located on a hill, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, which makes all panoramic rides particularly special.

Zoosafari Fasanolandia is the perfect day trip for all families, animal lovers and amusement park enthusiasts.

Zoosafari Fasano – a drive-through zoo in South-Italy, Puglia

We have stopped our car and ostriches are circling us. They are knocking on the windshield with very awaiting looks on their faces. Their beaks look quite intimidating and they are staring us. Can they crack our car window? They seem to be expecting some food, but we don’t have anything to give them … so we decide to take selfies with them instead.

How we got here?

We were on our way from Torre Santa Sabina to Alberobello while visiting the Puglia area when we saw a Zoosafari Fasano sign. The sign itself didn’t give away much- there were only a name “Zoosafari” and distance. But it caught our attention.

We couldn’t find much information from the Internet, but enough to be interested. We had never been in this kind of zoo. Ticketed costed 25€ for adult and 21€ (in the year2018) for children and will include also a visit to a regular zoo, to monkey ride and to a tropical house, but it still seemed to be a lot. But it really was worth it! It is a quite unique experience- basically, you will drive through the zoo with your own car.

NB: Zoosafari ticket is now 34€ according to their website zoosafari.it/tariffe/ (in the year 2024).

Camel on the road

Driving trough Zoosafari Fasano

The whole zoo is separated into two main parts and together they make up Zoosafari Fasanolandia. The safari section for driving and regular zoo. Safari part was a really cool and up-close experience. Animals there looked friendly, happy, playful and very used to the vehicles passing by. They came close and were very interested in us. Ok- not exactly us. They probably expected to get some food.

Ostrich looking through the car window

Animals are separated with fences between different areas. Lions, tigers, and bears have their own dedicated areas where it is forbidden to open a window. But to be honest- it even didn’t came to our minds to open car windows in the lion cage. Double gates are between those areas which are manually operated. You have to drive through the first gate and wait until that closes. After that man in the booth opens the next one and you can move on.

Zebra looking through the car window

All other animals are kept less strictly separated. Must be based on which ones get along each other naturally. Basically, they live freely – so don’t be surprised if you will find goats sleeping on the road or an ostrich knocking to the window. You can let down your window and pet the animals if you want.

Giraffes eating

We hoped to see lions up close and around the car, but unfortunately, they were relaxing on the grass. Far away from the road and not interested of us, which was a pity. They were just watching us from the distance. Same with bears and tigers. We caught them after feeding probably.

Lions relaxing on the grass while we drive by

Regular zoo and theme park Fasanolandia

After you will finish with the safari part, you can park your car outside of the park and go visit the pedestrian zoo. We used the parking lot on the left after exiting safari. Parking did cost around 3€ in the year 2018.

The regular zoo is also separated into different areas and it also features a theme park which altogether makes up the “Fasanolandia” park. Some of the examples are monkeys cage, tropical house, dolphinarium and the lake for the large mammals like sea lions. They also provide dolphins, penguins and sea lions shows for visitors at various times each day. This was at an extra cost.

Fasanolandia - Map of the whole park (the year 2018)

People in the cage

In Zoosafari Fasano you can swap position with animals. You have the possibility to go inside of the monkey cage- but for that, you have to get on to the train and into the cage. This was a really unique experience- some monkeys were riding with us on the top of the train and checking us out through the metal grid. Others were just having their normal life- grooming, eating or taking care of the babies.

Train with cages for people - for driving trough monkey cage

Questions we had before going to Zoosafari Fasano

We had many questions before going to the zoo safari. It was not quite clear for us how the exact visit will look like, is there a time limit for driving etc. Here are some of the questions answered.

Is there room to let other drivers pass you?

Yes. The roads are quite wide so you don’t have to worry about that. Driving is done in one direction – no oncoming traffic either. Even a tour bus was able to pass us. After we saw how this tour bus rushed through the safari, we were glad that we were there with our own car. It left us the liberty to decide how much time we wanted to spend looking at the specific animals. Bus variant must be pretty boring for visitor.

How fast I have to drive through the zoo safari?

There is no strict time limit so you don’t have to rush through the zoo. Also, there is no speed limit nor time restrictions as we did understand. But the recommended maximum time was about 90 minutes. It’s plenty of time to look at the animals and take the selfies. We were totally able to keep our own pace and take as long as we wanted.

Since we visited Zoosafari Fasano in the middle of the week in April, there were not many other cars around. When we looked this place up in Google Maps we saw that it can be worse. But at the same time, you can see some cars and buses passing the row. Google maps link here .

How can I get a ticket? Should we park our car first or should we drive directly to the ticket office?

You can drive directly to the ticket office at the main entrance, purchase your ticket, and then drive directly to the safari. After you have finished the safari road, you can park your car, and walk to the pedestrian zoo. A parking lot will cost 3€ and it has a nice shadow on the top.

Zoo Safari Fasano - Car park

Can I feed the animals?

Obviously, animals are used to get snacks from visitors since they gather around cars. We wonder if people would not give them food- would the experience actually be less attractive and animals would not come close? At the first gate, there was a sign that states that it’s forbidden to give food to the animals.

The sign at the entrance - "It is forbidden to give food to the animals"

Still have questions?

If you have questions feel free to ask in the comments section. If we remember or know the answer to it, we will answer.

Was worth it!

Our overall experience was great and we were pleased. It might be due to it’s our first time visiting such zoo. Janar usually doesn’t like zoos because of animals seem to be not happy in them. It’s not the case in Zoosafari Fasanolandia- especially in safari part. We would totally recommend visiting this- although it could get pretty pricey for families.

The home page of the Zoosafari Fasano is http://www.zoosafari.it/

PS: If you are looking for a place where to have lunch and you wouldn’t mind driving a few kilometers, then we would recommend Ristorante La Grande Quercia . It is 4 km (10 minutes) drive from Zoosafari Fasano. We read some really good reviews about their pizza, but unfortunately, they are serving pizzas only in the evenings. But the pasta we tried was also really good! And the best part is, that it seemed to be a real authentic Italian restaurant where also the locals will eat.

Visiting Puglia with kids: all you need to know to plan the perfect trip

All you need to know to plan your trip to Puglia with kids. Best places to visit in Puglia with children, family-friendly activities, tips and itinerary ideas

Puglia is the beautiful region forming the heel of the Italian boot and one of the best places for a family vacation with kids in Italy .

The region is very popular with Italian families, attracted by its beautiful sandy beaches and kid-friendly small towns.

Until a few years ago, Puglia was primarily a place with local and European tourism.

Nowadays, Puglia’s notoriety has soared and you don’t have anymore that hidden gem’ feel.

However, Puglia has so far managed to maintain a strong personality so while you won’t be the only foreigner there, you’ll definitely feel you are in a real (dare I say authentic?) place!

I love Puglia, and so did my kids, during our last trips.

We have been to Puglia several times, in spring, summer and fall.

The kids adored the beaches, the crystal clear waters and the fairytale villages; we adults loved the architecture and historical cities.

We all fell head over heels in love with the Apulian food, even my daughter, who is notoriously difficult!

In this guide, I share our top tips for visiting Puglia with kids and family-friendly attractions in Puglia you may like, based on our own experience and travels.

Why visit Puglia with kids

Puglia is a fantastic place for families who:

  • Wish to reland on sandy, child-friendly beaches (late spring, summer)
  • Want to explore small villages and UNESCO sites
  • Do not wish to avail of many organized tours or activities for kids and are happy with DIY sightseeing.

Why not visit Puglia with kids

The only reasons not to visit Puglia with kids are practical considerations about transport and season.

  • Puglia has limited train connections, mostly connecting towns in the Bari area and Bari with Lecce. These connections are great for reaching the area but are not sufficient to allow for extensive exploring.

Farms, country stays, country estates, many villages and the most beautiful beaches are reachable by car only and the lack of one will be very limiting.

  • Puglia is seasonal and it is important to plan your family trip around the weather. In winter, the main activities in Puglia are town hopping and sightseeing: you won’t be able to swim, take bat trips or enjoy the pool until May, at least. Indoor activities for children are limited.
  • Puglia gets very hot in summer: while this makes it ideal for a sea and sun vacation, be careful if planning sightseeing in summer with kids as the sun and heat can get really intense here.

Where is Puglia – map

The best places to visit in Puglia with kids

The gargano peninsula .

Gargano is the peninsula stretching from the north of Puglia into the Adriatic sea and it is one of the most beautiful places in Puglia for families who love nature and sea swimming.

beach in Gagano Puglia Italy

The area is part of the Gargano National Park and it is famous for its beautiful carsic white rocks and stunning marine landscapes.

If you have older kids, you can take beautiful excursions here on foot and by bike and, in the good season, you have plenty of lovely beaches and boat excursions.

Things to see in Gargano with kids are:

  • Enjoy the nature of the National Park
  • Visit The Paleontology Museum of San Marco in Lamis, where you can see actual dinosaur footprints (this is one of the best places to visit in Puglia with kids!)
  • Admire The Santuario di San Michele al’Agelo (Sanctuary), Unesco world heritage site
  • Take a boat trip to the fabulous Tremiti islands, perfect for older kids who love snorkeling especially
  • Enjoy family-friendly beaches such as Rodi Garganico, Vieste

A great family resort in this area is Gattarella Resort in Vieste , which is packed with activities for kids.

Bari province

The area of Bari is my favorite in Puglia for a family vacation.

Here, you find many beautiful towns, pretty beaches and some of the best kids attractions in the whole of Puglia.

In the area, you find:

Castel del Monte (Castel), Indiana Adventure Park, Castellana Caves, Fasano Zoo, Aqua par Egnazia water park, several cute beaches and a plethora of delightful towns to visit such as Trani, Polignano, Monopoli, Alberobello and Martina Franca.

Monopoli is a delightful small town in the Bari province and my favorite place in Puglia for kids.

The town has a pretty, car-free, charming historical center, it is one the coast and offers easy access to water in summer and it has a wonderful family-friendly vibe, with safe roads, many kid-friendly restaurts, playgrounds and een sport pitches where to meet local kids!

Monopoli has small beaches in town but it is close to sandy stretches of coastline and is perfectly located to explore the rest of the area with day trips.

You can find here >> my guide to Monopoli with kids (includes accommodation and restaurant recommendations)

my kids in Monopoli, Puglia, with Monopoli castle in the background

Trani and Castel del Monte

Trani  is a small seaside town on the Adriatic coast with something special: a medieval church in Romanesque style right on the sea.

Trani

I know a church does not immediately scream kid-friendly but the duomo of Trani truly is special: located where you’d expect a lighthouse, its cream color stands against the blue of the sea and the sky like a vision – both our children stopped in their tracks when they saw it!

The church is the one main landmark of Trani. However, the town is lovely to visit with kids as very pretty and local.

With small children, you are likely to spend most of the time in the public park (it has a nice playground) and along the marina, which is full of lovely restaurants. Older kids are likely to enjoy a bike tour of the town too.

From Trani, I highly recommend you take the time to visit nearby Castel del Monte.

castel del monte in Puglia, Italy

It si a short drive outside the town and Unesco world heritage site – perfect especially for kids of primary school age and up.

Castel del Monte Is a medieval castle dating back to the times of Federick the II and has a peculiar octagonal structure that makes it unique.

Polignano a Mare

Polignano al Mara is a small village on the Paulian coast that has recently risen to international fame thanks to its instagrammable position on a white rock hanging over the bluest sea you can imagine!

Polignano al Mare, Pugia, Italy

Polignano is tiny and beautiful but, in summer especially, a victim of its own fame: its tiny beach gets super busy!

This is nonetheless a lovely town to visit and great for a stroll with the kids.

Have gelato here and make them hear ‘Volare – Nel blu dipinto di blu’ one of the most famous Italian songs written by Polignano al Mare’s most famous son: Domenico Modugno.

Grotte di Castellana

Grotte di Castellana (Castellana Caves) is a unique place to visit in Puglia with kids who love a bit of adventure!

Over 122 meters deep, the caves are easy to access and are a fantastic place to see fossils, stalagmites and stalactites – they feel e little like a natural, underground cathedral!

You can visit during the day but, for something special, you can also take a night excursion to see the caves at their quietest and even experience them in complete darkness, which must be fantastic with teenagers especially.

My little daughter screamed in panic when we experienced complete darkness during a cave visit (not this one, we had learned our lesson by then), so you need to know your kids for this one!)

Web address: Grotte di Castellana

Alberobello

Alberobello  is one of the prettiest towns in Puglia and the whole of Italy and one of the most famous.

alberobello street with trulli

It is the place where you have the Trulli, peculiar houses with whitewashed walls and pointy roofs that resemble fairy houses or hobbit houses even.

Trulli are always a hit with kids and my two adored the option of sleeping in one. However, there is not a lot for kids to do in Alberobello. This is very much a place to see the cute trulli and stop for a lazy lunch.

The one thing we found truly interesting for kids was a visit to Trullo Sovrano: this is the largest trullo in Alberobello and it is now a museum of rural local culture, which is educational and easy to enjoy with kids.

Alberobello gets very very busy as buses offload large groups of tourists pretty much all day long. Therefore, I recommend you stay the night so you can see Alberobello before and after the day-trippers.

During the day, iI recommend ou go to nearby Locorotondo.

Locorotondo

Just 10 minutes by car from Alberobello,  Locorotondo  is one of the most pleasant towns we have seen in Puglia and a world apart from its famous neighbor.

street in Locorotondo Puglia with whitewashed houses

Here, you do not have a city center made of trulli, but you do have gorgeous whitewashed alleys that hide stunning churches and picture-perfect courtyards.

Clean, beautiful and quiet, Locorotondo Is like someone’s living room: a welcoming, beautiful place to relax.

My daughter walking along a pretty street in Locorotondo Puglia with whitewashed houses

Locorotondo is a great base to explore Val D’Itria, a part of Puglia characterized by wonderful olive groves (Puglia is an important producer of olive oil) dotted with traditional Trulli.

This is also one of the best areas in Puglia in terms of kids activities

Close to Lcorotondo and Monopoli, you find two of the mosy popular kids attractions in Puglia: Aquapark Egnazia and Fasano Safari Zoo, respectively the largest water park in Southern Italy and the second-largest animal park in Europe!

Please note:

Martina Franca

Martina Franca  is a small historical town in Puglia surrounded by tall walls that hide a wonderful city center.

Here you have small whitewashed winding streets, pretty squares but also something extraordinary: a series of baroque churches so distinctive and unique they belong to a particular type of baroque called Barocco Martinese’.

Martina Franca Is beautiful and more prominent than Locorotondo and, like its neighbors, makes a great base to discover Puglia or an excellent destination for a day trip.

Martina Franca is adorable with kids: its small streets are car-free, safe and pretty, there are plenty of gelato places and you can even visit an olive oil mill and learn how the delicious local olive oil comes to life, from tree to bottle!

Salento is the southernmost part of Puglia, the very end of the heel of Italy.

It is famous Lecce, a city so rich of art it is called the Florence of the south, and for its beaches, among the most beautiful not just in Puglia big in the whole of Italy.

When you see photos of Puglia with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, they are usually from here!

Places we enjoyed in Salento are:

Lecce is a wonderful city with a kid-friendly and car-free town center, beautiful squares and a stunning ancient Roman theater.

Famous for the craft of Paper Mache, Lecce is a great destination for children in spring or winter, when you are likely to want a city setting rather than a beach vacation.

Gappilpoli is a wonderful, well-equipped family-friendly town n Salento, overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea.

The town has a beautiful, charming and car-free center that is pleasant for kids to explore and experience, it is very well equipped with restaurants and hotels and it is close to the famous Salento beaches.

More things to do in Puglia with kids

Eat the incredible apulian food.

Puglia has amazing food, distinctive and among the most delicious in Italy.

Stracciatella, typical dish from Puglia with cheese, bread and vegetables

Not to be missed are ‘ orecchiette con le cime di rapa ‘, which are a local handmade pasta (orecchiette) with local tender stem broccoli.

Also, broad beans puree, surprisingly delicious and satisfying and  stracciatella Pugliese  (made with burrata) are worth tasting and only the most famous of a true cornucopia of local deliciousness!

‘Discerning’ kids will be able to enjoy orecchiette pasta with tomato sauce, which we found in all restaurants.

Experience a night in a trullo

Alberobello’s trulli are traditional dwellings, often dating back to the XVII century.

However, they have been restored, and now many serve as luxury accommodations.

Spending a night in one of them is memorable and a must-have Puglia experience!

Trulli you may enjoy are:

Trulli Anti – delightful set of trulli in the heart of Alberobello, offering perfectly appointed accommodation n the heart of trulli’s capital  (several trulli, suitable for different needs)

Trulli Terra Magica – fabulous structure in Putignano offering accommodation in a trullo and swimming pool

Get lost in the white cities.

Several of the prettiest cities in Puglia fall in the category of ‘white cities,’ towns entirely made of whitewashed buildings framing meandering alleys.

The best way to explore them is without a map. You will get lost, but always find your way back!

This is the best way to see the prettiest courtyards and hidden corners of these little gems of local architecture.

The most beautiful white town of Puglia are: Ostuni, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica, Molfetta.

Experience Taranta Night

Participate in Notte della Taranta, ‘Taranta night’ or ‘Night of the Tarantula’, a night celebrating the traditional music of Salento, the Pizzica.

The night is more than just a pleasant concert: pizzica is the music that locals played to exorcise the women affected by ‘tarantism,’ a form of hysteria that was associated with the bite of the tarantula and that the music and accompanying dance were believed to cure.

Where to stay in Puglia with kids – family friendly accommodation in Puglia

Puglia is a large region, so this is only a small selection of places I believe you will love for a family vacation.

As you will see, many of these accommodation options are called Masserie.

Masseria is the traditional country estate of Puglia and many are now converted into guest accommodation. Fantastic places to experience Puglia with kids!

Gatterella Family resort in Vieste (all-inclusive resort for families)

Masseria Torre Egnazia (Luxury) – stunning Masseria offering family-friendly accommodation, cafes, restaurants and bars on site, pools and kids club for children age 3 tp 12 and a teen club up to age 16.

Agriturismo Lama San Giorgio – wonderful country stay with outdoor pool and restaurant offering families large spaces and the option of booking several activities in the area, including wine tours, bike rides etc.

The best time to go to Puglia with kids

The best time to go to Puglia with kids for sightseeing is the fall and the spring.

At this time, you have the highest chance of nice weather without the summer’s scorching temperatures and you may get fewer crowds.

Our most successful trip to Puglia as a family was in late October / early November: the only busy place we encountered was Alberobello and the weather was perfect!

The best time to visit Puglia’s beaches is the summer: late June, early July and September are a little less busy than August and you have the highest chance of clean beaches and non-overwhelming crowds.

How to get around Puglia with kids

The best way to visit Puglia with kids is by car.

While trains will bring you to Puglia from the rest of Italy, you want your own transport to move between towns and enjoy Puglia’s nature.

Find here >>> our tips for renting a car in Italy

What to eat in Puglia

Puglia has amazing food, in large part perfect for kids too. Puglia’s specialties include:

  • Orecchiette (pasta)
  • Orecchiette al pomodoro (orecchiette pasta with smile tomato sauce)
  • Orecchiette con le cime di rapa (vegetarian pasta)
  • Ciceri e tria – a local type of pasta with chickpeas
  • Stracciatella pugliese – shredded burrata (cheese)
  • Pure’ di fave – surprisingly pleasant and flavorsome broad bean mash
  • Cartellate pugliesi – sweet, honey-based confection
  • Taralli – small knots of bread dough not dissimilar in taste from a breadstick (but nicer!) – a kids’ favorite snack!
  • Pane di Altamura – bread
  • Caciocavallo – cheese

What to pack for Puglia

What to pack for Puglia depends on the season of your visit.

In summer, Puglia gets very hot, so summer clothes, swimming gear and sandals are in order

In winter, Puglia can get surprisingly cold, so you want to make sure you have a proper coat, gloves, scarf and closed shoes

In the mid-season, there is an element of luck: compared with the north of Italy, Puglia gets better weather however, it is not unusual to have cold spells or, suddenly, a warm day!

For Puglia in spring or fall, I recommend layers, long pants and a mid-season jacket, to be ready for all eventualities.

I hope you found this overview of the best places to visit in Puglia with kids useful. Happy travel planning!

Zoo safari “fasano-landia”.

safari park puglia italy

Tired of lounging around the pool all day ? Overdone the beach ? Children and other companions complaining of Culture overdose. Then maybe its time for some entertainment and fun. There is no better diversion than taking a trip to the Zoo-Safari Park in Fasano. Situated just 40 minutes drive from our Villas, it is best to go in the morning, arriving about 10 am.

Park up and buy a couple of bags of peanuts at the shop before the pay booth. Payment is per person with discounts for old, young and student cards holders. Driving in, – one encounters deer and wild goat, keep all windows closed when entering the Lions… whole families of lions not just a few.

Likewise with the Tigers and Bears. Leaving the big carnivores behind, there are enclosures of elephant, and giraffe. Stopping the car near the giraffe enclosure and opening the windows, will, within a few minutes patience will cause the elegant animals to approach, and by offering them peanuts, they will eat from your hand with enormously long tongues like soft velvet, their heads entering through the windows or sunroof in questing for more. Camels and zebra will look for treats too, but, as these eat with their teeth care should be taken- maybe drop the peanuts to them. Watch out for the emus making sudden darting grabs as they try to take the bag from your hands. Finally leaving the Safari trail exit, park in the car park to the left.

Take your tickets and walk into the Fasanolandia’s pedestrian entrance. The ticket allows entrance to the monkey train (more demands for peanuts) as you are mobbed by baboons. The reptile-fish-insect house is close by, but then take the other little train to the “Lake of the Mammals.”

Have your camera ready, because the train first travels on rail above the leopards and panthers, you might only get one quick chance of a photo as the cats could be anywhere. Dismounting the train at the island, watch for the inhabitants in the lake of seals.  Rhinoceros, hippopotamus, and various bears ( the brown bears will beg for peanuts) Before returning to the train and boarding for the return to the main park, stop for lunch in the restaurant bar, with a varied menu, it is fresh, tasty and good value. Arriving back to the main park, climb up the hill to the aviary of birds, or take delight in a  dolphin and seal show in the water arena. It is possible to watch a free display as the dolphins cavort in their tanks by looking through the underwater viewing ports

Children and maybe adults will be enthralled in the fun park, thrills and spills on water rides, dippers and many more diversions will fill the hours till the park closes and it’s time to go home.

Maybe select a restaurant to dine in on your route home, or instead choose to relax in the evening with a light supper and a glass of cold wine, beside the pool in one of our Villas as you watch the sun going down while you peacefully unwind at the end of the day.

Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your visit:

Getting There

Fasano is conveniently located in the province of Brindisi, making it easily accessible by various means of transportation. If you’re flying in, the nearest airport is Brindisi Airport, just a short drive away. From there, you can rent a car or take a taxi to reach Fasano. Things to do in Fasano

Medieval Architecture: Wander through the narrow cobblestone streets lined with centuries-old buildings, each bearing witness to Fasano’s storied past. Admire the elegant facades of medieval palaces, adorned with intricate stone carvings and wrought-iron balconies, reflecting the city’s timeless allure.

The historic center of Fasano is called “U’mbracchie” in the local dialect, which translates to “shade,” because its narrow streets are so tight that sunlight struggles to reach them.

Churches and Basilicas: Marvel at the majestic churches and basilicas that punctuate the skyline of Fasano’s old town. Step inside the ancient walls of the Church of San Francesco d’Assisi, where stunning frescoes and ornate altars await, offering a glimpse into the city’s religious heritage.

Hidden Courtyards and Piazzas: Discover hidden gems tucked away in quiet courtyards and picturesque piazzas, where locals gather to socialize and unwind. The Selva di Fasano offers visitors the opportunity to explore nature through hiking trails, horseback riding, and guided tours. It’s a haven for nature lovers, providing a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

Egnazia Archaeological Site: Delve into Fasano’s ancient past with a visit to the Egnazia Archaeological Site, where you can explore the ruins of an ancient Messapian city dating back to the 6th century BC. Marvel at well-preserved structures such as the Acropolis, the Roman baths, and the necropolis, which offer fascinating insights into the region’s history. Be sure to visit the onsite museum, which houses a remarkable collection of artifacts unearthed during archaeological excavations, including pottery, coins, and sculptures that shed light on daily life in ancient Egnazia.

These traditional Apulian dwellings feature conical roofs made of limestone, creating a fairy-tale-like atmosphere that’s perfect for exploration and photography. Wander through the narrow streets of the Rione Monti district, where hundreds of trulli cluster together in a charming labyrinth of whitewashed walls and cobblestone lanes, and don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Trullo Sovrano, the only two-story trullo in existence, which has been converted into a museum showcasing local history and culture.
