The GT Radial Maxtour LX is part of the Tires test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Tires models like the Maxtour LX are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Dry braking: Dry braking is measure of stopping performance from 60 to 0 mph.

Wet braking: Wet braking is measure of stopping performance from 60 to 0 mph.

Handling: For most tires, Handling includes how well the tires perform; in an avoidance maneuver involving a swerve into the left lane and back into the right lane; on CR's wet handling circuit; and steering feel.

Speed rating

Speed rating. This letter denotes the maximum sustainable speed and is found directly after the load index. For S-speed-rated tires, it's 112 mph; for T, 118 mph. Speed ratings for other tires include Q, 99 mph; H, 130 mph; and V , 149 mph. Some tires have speed ratings of W, 168 mph and Y, 186 mph. While such speeds may seem wildly impractical, tires with higher speed ratings tend to provide better handling at legal speed limits. Choose tires that have a speed rating at least as high as the one specified on your vehicle's placard or consult your vehicles owner's manual.

Treadwear warranty

Commonly used by tire manufacturers to market tires, the warranty describes the typical tread life of the tire. Actual mileage will vary with vehicle type, driving style, road, and weather conditions, just to name a few variables. Typically, credit is based on the mileage not received.

UTQG treadwear

UTQGS, which stands for Uniform Tire Quality Grading System, is a federal government required grading system for passenger tires excluding winter tires. Key information includes Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature appearing on the sidewall of a tire. UTQG treadwear, an index developed by the government, compares a tire's tread life with that of a reference tire graded at 100. A tire with a grade of 300 is predicted to last three times as long as one graded at 100. Treadwear grades are just one indicator of tread life, but actual tire life will vary due to a number of factors including road conditions, driving habits, vehicle, and maintenance.

UTQG traction

UTQGS, which stands for Uniform Tire Quality Grading System, is a federal government required grading system for passenger tires excluding winter tires. Key information includes Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature appearing on the sidewall of a tire. UTQG traction indicates the tire's ability to stop on a wet surface with Government grades of AA, A, B, C, from best to worst.

GT Radial Maxtour LX Introduced in North America

The GT Radial Maxtour LX grand touring tire is being introduced in North America to provide CUV and passenger car owners a quiet and smooth ride, combined with excellent traction and handling. The majority of the size offering is produced at the Giti manufacturing plant in Chester County, SC. The all season Maxtour LX is being sold by independent tire dealers across the US and Canada and will be available to consumers by the week of April 1.

Available in 42 sizes for 15- to 20-inch rims, the Maxtour LX covers fitments for the top 20 passenger and crossover vehicles sold in the US. “The Maxtour LX is a world-class touring tire,” said Tim Fulton, CEO of Giti North America. “Backed by an industry-leading warranty, we believe our dealers across North America will have success selling it, and consumers will appreciate its performance and value.” The new GT Radial tire offers consumers with a comprehensive warranty package, including a 70,000-mile limited tread wear warranty, 24-hour roadside assistance, and road hazard warranty. Today’s sophisticated CUVs and passenger cars require tires that are quiet and comfortable. Advanced harmonically-optimized pitch sequencing is utilized in the Maxtour LX to reduce road noise, while a high modulus body ply absorbs road impacts to deliver premium ride comfort. In addition, the Maxtour LX has: • An asymmetric tread pattern tuned for optimal all season performance. • Full depth sipes that provide grip throughout the life of the tire. • Stiff outer tread blocks for precise vehicle handling and steering response. • Additional shoulder channels to aid in water evacuation. • An independent shoulder groove that improves vehicle handling.

Target vehicles include: Honda Accord and CRV, Toyota Camry, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape, and Chevrolet Traverse. I have been more than happy with the prior sets but these tires are by far the best set of tires I ever bought . They are smooth, quiet ,and the best handling tire I've ever owned . I went off the reviews and I'm not at all disappointed . My car never road this nice . All my driving is rural . Great tire !

An absolute steel of a tire for the money I love them! The only thing I can't speak to is the treadware because I've only had them a few months.
