This Bakery Chain Is So Much Better Than Whatever You're Eating

Don't let its french name fool you—it didn't start in europe..

I'm not a big birthday person, but it's become a tradition that every year that I ask for a cake from a very specific bakery. I love this establishment so much that I'm getting excited just thinking about it, even though my birthday is in April. I'm a big proponent of supporting local bakeries and restaurants, but in the case of this very large bakery chain, I make an exception. No, I don't buy a Cookie Puss from Carvel. I pick up a cake from Tous Les Jours .

What is Tous Les Jours?

The name is French (it translates to "every day"), but Tous Les Jours was actually founded in South Korea, and currently has more than 1,650 locations worldwide. It sells a wide array of pastries, sandwiches, and coffee, and everything is made in-house every day, hence the name.

I'm particularly enamored with Tous Les Jour's sweet-potato -flavored goods, such as buns and, yes, my beloved birthday cake . These items all feature a unique East Asian sweet potato with off-white flesh called goguma, which has a delicately sweet flavor. Though sweet potato might seem like an unusual and starchy flavoring for a cake filling, the light touch of its sweetness is, I'm telling you , out of this world.

The savory items are worth exploring, too. You can get sausage buns, chicken salad sandwiches, BLTs, lots of stuff that makes a quick and satisfying lunch. There are also loaves of bread if you're serving a crowd, as well as a mind-boggling array of buns and coffee drinks to pair with them. It's a far cry from the sad little vacuum-sealed offerings at those lunchtime grab-and-go-type spots scattered around most major American cities.

If you've never had Asian pastries, be aware that they aren't tooth-achingly sweet (though there's plenty of sugar involved). The cakes, unlike the typical grocery store offerings , are more fluffy and spongy than they are dense. You usually won't find these items too cloying; they're just enough, and it leaves you craving more.

Where to find Tous Les Jours

As a chain, Tous Les Jours isn't quite as ubiquitous as the likes of Panera in the United States. Locations are mostly clustered around major metropolitan areas: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta. So you urban dwellers have easier access than those in smaller towns—for now. If we all hype this chain, maybe it will have the chance to grow outward. Can you imagine a world free of sad sandwiches at lunch?

If any of you have been to a Tous Les Jours, sound off in the comments. I could use a recommendation for what to grab the next time I'm in, because I have to make sure I don't cave and get the cake (gotta keep it special by only ordering it once a year).

This is my absolute favorite place to hangout with friends and study! Their iced ube latte was delicious with their jalapeño cheese croissant. Everyone was so nice and helpful!

A wide selection of pastries, both sweet and savory. A variety of handcrafted drinks, such as smoothies, tea and coffee. Service is impeccable. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Chill atmosphere. Restrooms are well maintained.

the service is really good! the space was big so you don't have to worry about finding a comfortable seat, their drinks are so good as well ! my favorite is all of their matchas! it's so flavorful and you can really taste how rich it is.

While driving through this plaza, my nose picked up this delightful doughy scent that led me to this wonderful bakery. When walking in, the ambience felt very open and welcoming. Besides the delicious pastries served, there are also cold sandwiches and several selections of coffees and teas to choose from. Take note, that there are serving trays with a liner and tongs available at the entrance to place your tasty goodies. I unfortunately forgot to take pictures of what I purchased but let me tell you, all of it was delicious. I believe it was a guava Danish I started with. A gorgeous lattice on top, flaky as can be with a delicious guava jam in the center. Paired perfectly with their hot hazelnut coffee. The almond croissant was honestly the best I've had in a very long time. Lightly crispy on the outside and light and doughy inside, sheer heaven. We also a sweet frank roll. I'm a huge hot dog fan but this thing was beyond amazing. The bread had a light drizzle of honey on the exterior that paired perfectly with the salty sausage. A definite must! Like mentioned I had a hazelnut hot coffee that was delicious and my wife got the lavender latte. A honey and floral combo that paired perfectly. Did I mention their baguette??! It's soooo good! Straight out of the bag or paired with a nice hot soup, it's delicious! We also got 2 sandwiches. The egg salad sandwich was good. With lettuce and a sweet mayo dressing on the bread. Also the turkey avocado sandwich. This was very delicious. The one thing that stood out right away was that the avocado wasn't brown. It was fresh. A definite must try for those who appreciate a French inspired bakery.

Good selection of pastries, sweet and savory. I have yet to try everything but my favorite is the spinach danish. mmmmm... The matcha was also good as well, im looking forward to trying more in the future ! The seating was also nice, offering different kinds of views and different privacy options to either study or hangout.

I just got back from Korea where tous le Jours is everywhere and was craving some high quality baked goods so decided to come by. This location is honestly a disappointment. The almond croissant and the strawberry puff were both mediocre and not crunchy on the outside, but more soft like they've been sitting a while. The matcha slush was watered down tasting like mostly milk and ice with very little matcha or sweetness to it. Another off putting thing about here were all the passive aggressive signs everywhere. I would come back here again but maybe at a busier time when the items are fresher.

I've been here several times and came by to pick up one of my faves, the spinach and feta breakfast pastry. I'm having it tomorrow morning with my coffee.

It is more of a place to pick up and go then anything. The pastries have a great presentation and have average pricing. This is in a shopping center with a lot of Asian cuisine. One of the breakfast pastries was a hit with my supervisor. The pastry that looks like a fruit torte did have a blueberry that was past its prime and tasted stale. Everything else was good and not overly sweet. I will give other items a try.

So much selections of pastries and they even have a salamander for those hot food items to stay hot and ready. The pastries run the gamut of sweet to savory and you really can't go wrong with any of them. The curry and crab croquettes are amazing. The cakes also look inviting if you're looking for a sweet fill. The drinks are also nice with equal attention to coffee and teas. I really like that the floor is spacious and really inviting for people to lounge and do some work (though the seats aren't comfortable for long periods of work).

Who doesn't love an over priced yet very posh bakery? Lattes, teas, baked goods, sandwiches.. all those delicious and visually appealing items to choose from can get the best of anyone. Matcha brownies, filled donuts, milk loaves, spinach & chocolate danishes, cookies, turkey sandwiches, matcha & lavender iced lattes.. I purchased a ton of gluttonous treats that racked up a pretty penny. All of it was rich & tasty. They were equally enjoyable as the bright & sophisticate atmosphere. The layout is food centric and seating is abundant. Honestly, it's not that pricey but it does get up there when your indulging an army. Great place to grab a variety of different pastries for a party or office. Maybe even a good spot to get some work done or bring friends for a relaxing chat. I'll be back for sure.

Late nights & Lattes (Matcha Lavender Latte)

This place doesn't need the advertising, but it's definitely good. The cashiers were friendly! They have plenty of choices, and flavors. As for drinks, they have different varieties and options as well. It was playing mellow but hip music, plenty of tables and chairs to lounge around. You get WiFi when you purchase something. Will definitely go to the closer locations to me.
