Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore – Before Your Cruise

Orchard library – getting there, opening hours & a tour, bras basah mrt station (cc2), city hall mrt station (ns25/ew13).

Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore

Operated by SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore is a relatively new cruise terminal which opened on 22 October 2012. Designed to accommodate enormous ships and thousands of passengers at a time, this terminal is expected to give a boost to the leisure cruise industry in Singapore, together with Singapore Cruise Centre located at Harbourfront.

2018 was the year I last set foot meaningfully in Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore for a 4D3N cruise onboard Royal Caribbean’s Voyager Of The Seas. The area near the vehicle drop-off point was bustling with activities, with passengers arriving in throngs with their suitcases and backpacks. Chatters of excited holiday-goers, young and old, filled the place. Soon, it was time to check in. At that time, I neither had the time nor the intention to explore the cruise centre. After all, it seemed like a nice place to frequent on weekends for dinner, provided restaurants and cafes existed. I made a mental note to revisit this place on another day.

Fast forward to this day, I finally made my visit post-COVID – a good five years since my last. I was initially full of anticipation for all the F&B offerings that I would find at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore. However, I ended up sorely disappointed because there is none at all! I was told by one of the officers there that the nearest place I could get food is Marina South Pier . It is such a pity I cannot cover any topics on F&B in this blog post. So, this post will be all about the things passengers need to know prior to boarding their cruises.

1. How To Get To Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore

Address Of Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore

The address of Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore is: 61 Marina Coastal Drive Singapore 018947

Map Showing The Cruise Centre

As seen on the map, Marina South Pier MRT Station (NS28) is the nearest station to the cruise centre. The next nearest is Marina South MRT Station (TE21) but this station is not open at the time of writing of this post. According to an article in The Straits Times , this station will remain shuttered until housing developments in the surrounding area are ready.

Proceed To Exit A

After alighting at Marina South Pier MRT Station which is the last station on the North South Line, simply proceed to Exit A and you will see a path leading to the cruise centre.

Walkway Leading To Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore

The cruise centre is 500 metres away from Exit A of the MRT station. This distance may seem daunting, especially with your huge luggage and the humid weather. However, do rest assure that this walk is as breezy as it can be. Breezy because of the sea breeze. Breezy also because the path is level and easy to walk on – that is, if your luggage comes with wheels.

If you are travelling by car, there is a car park within the building of the cruise centre. Check out the next section if you intend to park your car there for the duration of your cruise.

2. DriveCruise Service

DriveCruise Service

If you want to drive to Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore to save the hassle of taking public transport with kids in tow and bulky luggage but worry about hefty parking charges for the few days of parking, the following will be good news for you!

The DriveCruise service allows you to park your vehicle at the cruise centre at a highly discounted rate and continue your cruise holiday hassle-free.

Upon returning, you can just pick up your car and drive comfortably away without having to wait for taxis or public transport, and paying peak hour surcharges.

Just follow these simple steps: 1. Scan the QR code in the picture above or go to this link . 2. Purchase your DriveCruise pass and make cashless payment before the validation of the pass. 3. DriveCruise pass will be validated via vehicle and IU number after 30 minutes. 4. For AutoPass card users, do fill in your Autopass number in the IU field.

Important Note: Please ensure you have secured a carpark lot before purchasing a DriveCruise Pass.

3. About Baggage Check-In

Prior to your cruise, you must take note of the following policies if you want to check-in your luggage.

Only small size or cabin size suitcases are allowed through security.

Allowable Check In Luggage Size

Approved bags include 2-wheel or 4-wheel luggage and suitcases. Non-approved bags include handbags, camera bags, paper bags, plastic bags, tote bags and recycle bags.

Baggage Acceptance Policy

After checking in your luggage, it is time to relax and wait for boarding. When going through the security scanner, do remember to remove items like handphones and keys from your pockets.

4. Final Notes About Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore

Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore opens only for the departure and arrival of cruise passengers. Hence, it is mostly closed at other times. There are no cafes or foodcourts, and not even vending machines. Toilets are also unavailable unless the cruise centre is opened. The nearest toilet is at Marina South Pier MRT Station.

Signs are put up prominently at the exterior as well as the interior of the cruise centre to prohibit photography and video-recording.

There is a long stretch of grass along Marina Coastal Drive just outside the cruise centre at the breakwater fishing area where you can have a picnic or simply sit on the grass to watch the big ships across the sea. Do bring along your umbrellas, water and snacks. Self-sufficiency is key if you want to enjoy your time there!

Photo of the International Pier Terminal in Singapore Cruise Port

The docks and terminals (services and amenities), embarking and disembarking, how to get around for cruisers to Singapore

By: Editor-in-Chief Updated: May 23, 2023

Singapore is both a major port of call and also a home (Embarkation-Disembarkation) port for cruises in the South East Asia itineraries. The city-state has two cruise ports and terminals.

As a rule of thumb, small and mid-sized cruise ships dock at the International Passenger Terminal , whilst larger ships dock at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre aka as MBCCS.

The International Passenger Terminal in Singapore Cruise Port

The International Passenger Terminal (IPT) is located on the western south shore of the city-state less than 3 miles (4.5 km) from the city’s downtown (with a population of 5.8 million). This terminal (IPT) is located next to the VivoCity shopping mall and right across the Sentosa Island, a major attraction of Singapore. Singapore Cruise Website: www.singaporecruise.com.sg

The Pier and Berths in the International Passenger Terminal

The International Passenger Terminal has one L shaped pier perpendicular to the coastline with 2 berths where two cruise ships can dock. Do not be confused with the Regional Ferry Terminal (RFT) next to it.

Cruise travelers will find a very well kept terminal building many times referred to as HarbourFront Passenger Terminal, where you will find all basic services and amenities.

Once you walk down the gangway into the pier, there is one exit gate to the terminal. The exit gates are at no more than 500 feet (150 meters) from the gangway.

What's at the International Passenger Terminal in Singapore Cruise Port

Amenities and services.

Cruise travelers will find at the Terminal all amenities and services such as restrooms, 3 money exchange counters and ATM's, public phones, Internet with Wi-Fi, coffee shops, a 7-Eleven convenience store, vending machines, a few apparel stores and a branch of the Singapore Postal Services. The Terminal also has a very convenient (and affordable) Left Luggage service. Singapore Postal Services Website: www.singpost.com

Tourist Info in Singapore

You will find a tourist information counter in the terminal. There are also Tourist Information aka Visitor Centers booths around the city’s downtown.

Duty-Free Shopping at the IPT Terminal

Cruise travelers looking for duty-free shopping will be disappointed to know that there are only a few shops at the cruise terminal. However, just next to terminal you will find all major brands and chain stores at the VivoCity Shopping Mall, which is the largest retail venue in Singapore. VivoCity Website: www.vivocity.com.sg

Transportation at the International Passenger Terminal

Cruise travelers planning to explore Singapore on your own will find that the city has a efficient, modern and affordable transportation network.

Limousines and Taxis

The Limousine Counter is on Level 1 (Main Concourse just outside the Arrival Hall) with fares to top attractions around SGD$50 (US$36). Taxis are available right outside the Terminal building. All taxis are metered and take around 10 to 15 minutes to the city center and around 30 to 40 minutes to the airport.

Underground and Public Bus

The MRT is am excellent underground/subway network with stops close to all main attractions in Singapore and also with a connection to the airport. There is a stop right at the HarbourFront on the North East Line (NEL), which has stops close to Chinatown, Clarke Quay and Little India. Right outside the main exit of the HarbourFront Terminal there are bus stops to most directions, with buses taking around 20 minutes to the city center. Singapore Public Transportation Website: www.sbstransit.com.sg

To See and Do Close by the International Passenger Terminal

Just outside the HarbourFront Terminal building, on your right (east) cruise travelers will find the VivoCity shopping mall. On the left side of the Terminal, there is a Cable Car to the Sentosa Island. If this top attraction of Singapore is on your plans, you may also consider using the Sentosa Express monorail, which has a stop located at VivoCity (Lobby L, Level 3).

Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore Cruise Port

The Marina Bay Cruise Centre (aka MBCCS) where larger ships dock is located on the south shore of the city-state around 2 miles (3 km) from the downtown. MBCCS Website: mbccs.com.sg

Pier and Berths in Marina Bay Cruise Centre

There is one long pier on Marina Bay which is perpendicular to the coastline with two berths for two cruise ships. This is where large ships of up to 220,000 GMT and up to 360 meters (1,181 feet) in length dock. However, small ships of cruise lines like Azamara, Seabourn or Silversea also dock at the Marina Bay Cruise Center.

Cruise travelers will find in the port one modern cruise terminal on two levels where you will find all basic services and amenities.

Once you walk out of the ship you will be on a covered corridor at no more than 500 feet/150 meters to the entrance to the Terminal building. Before entering the terminal, all passengers will be checked by Singapore Customs. Insiders Tip: make sure to have your passport ready.

Amenities and Services in Marina Bay Cruise Centre

Cruise travelers will find at the terminal (on level 2) amenities and services such as a restrooms, the CIMB Bank currency exchange kiosk, 3 ATM's, a Mobilephone shop, a cafeteria and Watsons convenience store. Wi-Fi is provided by the Marina Bay Cruise Centre FREE inside the terminal. On Level 1 (ground-floor) cruise travelers will find restrooms, a left luggage service and the CruiseFly counter that offers affordable transfers to the airport.

Tourist Info in the Marina Bay Cruise Centre

You will find a tourist information desk (look for Visitor Center) at the Terminal on (Level 2). Cruise travelers will also find “Visitor Centers” on the main touristic areas or close to top attractions.

Duty-free Shops in the Terminal of the Marina Bay Cruise Centre

Cruise travelers looking for duty-free shopping will not fin any shops at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre cruise terminal.

Transportation at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre

Cruise travelers planning to explore Singapore on your own will find just outside the terminal taxis and public buses. The underground-subway-metro is within walking distance.

Taxis are metered and reasonably priced. Uber operates in Singapore and can also be a good option to get around the city.

Public buses are efficient and very affordable. Just outside the terminal you will find the #402 bus stop located at the coach bay with a direct service to the city center. Buses operate between 6:00am and 11:00pm and a single fare costs S$2.00 (under US$1.00). Insiders Tip : make sure you have exact fare as no change will be given back.

The MRT (Mass Rail Transit) is Singapore’s underground/subway/metro. It covers the entire city and is efficient, safe and modern. The Marina South Pier MRT Station is an extension of the North-South Line and the closest to the Marina Bay Cruise Centre. After exiting the terminal, look for a covered walkway on your right. The station is around 1/3 mile/600 meters away.

Outside the terminal you will see a City Sightseeing stop. However, be aware that this popular Hop-On Hop-Off bus only stops at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre to pick cruise travelers with booked tours either with the cruise line or with online services. City Sightseeing Website: city-sightseeing.com

Within walking distance of the Marina Bay Cruise Centre

Although the Marina Bay Cruise Centre is located relatively close to Singapore’s many attractions, there is nothing of interest to visit or explore within walking distance. However, with public transportation cruise travelers will be in the city center in less than 20 minutes.

Some luxury cruise lines docking at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre may offer a shuttle bus to the city center.

Embarking and/or Disembarking in Singapore

Singapore is a major Home Port with most cruise ships Embarking and Disembarking passengers in the city-state for the start and/or end of cruises in South East Asia.

Cruise travelers that have never been in Singapore before should consider flying to Singapore at least 2 days before the cruise to explore the many attractions of the city. For those traveling from far away continents like Europe and America, flying at least one day ahead of the cruise is mandatory. Firstly, to assure that you will not miss the ship (and the beginning of cruise). Secondly, to recover from a long flight (any thing between 18 and 30 hours). Last but not least, to overcome jet lag and adapt to a new time zone - around 12 hours. Even for those traveling from Australia, it should be noted that a flight from Sidney to Singapore is around 8 hours long and that there is a 3 hour time difference.

Public Transportation between Cruise Port and Airport

Naturally your may prefer to explore the highlights of Singapore after a cruise and fly home a couple of days latter. Whatever you choose to do, cruisers will eventually need to travel between the cruise port to the Changi Airport (Singapore's main international airport). Transportation to and from the Airport to or from the Cruise Terminals in Singapore is affordable, fast and efficient. Uber has been the Editor's choice but there taxis, public buses and the MRT have excellent connections. Check the Changi Airport Transportation Website Page for more details .

Smokers advise

Singapore has very harsh laws regarding smoking in public and many cruise travelers are aware of this. However, not all are aware that if you bring cigarettes into Singapore you MUST declare and pay tax to customs at the airport.Check the Singapore Customs Website. to know what to expect.

How to get from Changi Airport to Marina Bay Sands using MRT?

This article is designed to provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to get to from Changi Airport to Marina Bay Sands using the MRT network.  Rest assured, the information in this article is reliable because it is based on our own personal travel experience in Singapore. We have flown into Singapore on countless occasions and travelled all the way to Marina Bay Sands (one of the most stunning hotels in the world) .

Marina Bay Sands is without question one of the most ionically designed buildings in all of Southeast Asia.  Very few people visiting Singapore leave without seeing Marina Bay Sands overlooking Singapore’s world-famous skyline.   It has an extremely popular observation deck that is a must-see while in the city!

Marina Bay Sands is more than a beautifully designed building, however. It is actually a large shopping mall, hotel, and entertainment complex. Many tourists who fly into Changi Airport head to Marina Bay Sands for breathtaking photos of Singapore’s skyline.

Why should you consider visiting Marina Bay Sands if you are in Singapore?

This article explains how you can get from the airport Marina Bay Sands by MRT.  This raises an important question: Why should you visit Marina Bay Sands in the first place?  One of the first things that you have to realize about Marina Bay Sands is that it offers a lot of different options for visitors. For many visitors, Marina Bay Sands is their hotel of choice because of the amazing panoramic viewpoints from the rooms.

Many of Marina Bay Sands’ skyline view rooms sell out on a regular basis because of the high tourist demand.  If you have the budget to afford a room facing the city it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture these breathtaking views of the city. For others, it is the site of different theatrical shows and music concerts.

Changi Airport to Marina Bay Sands

You gamble at the Casino or watch live entertainment at one of the theatres. Famous bands like the Rolling Stones have played at Marina Bay Sands during special events. Marina Bay is also a large luxury mall that has many of the world’s top branded clothing, bag, and accessory stores.

singapore cruise terminal to marina bay sands

With ultra-modern skyscrapers and Chinese, Indian and Malay influences,  Singapore  is rich in contrast and color, with a lovely blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture.

Seabourn utilizes the island-nation’s splendid maritime facilities, nearly unrivalled international airlift at its  Changi airport  and surfeit of top-quality hotels as a prime destination in which to begin or end voyages in Asia. The eye-popping architecture of the Marina Bay neighborhood in the HarbourFront district is Singapore’s new iconic postcard image. The towering  Marina Bay Sands hotel , the verdant and surreal Gardens by the Bay botanical complex and the durian-shaped Esplanade arts and entertainment facilities embody the Merlion city’s assertively modern aesthetic. The  Marina Bay Cruise Centre  is an award-winning counterpart to the city’s older Singapore Cruise Centre in welcoming visitors arriving by sea. Nearby Sentosa Island is dedicated to fun and recreation, with theme parks, resorts, cinemas and restaurants. The cable car ascent of Mt. Faber is a classic Singapore experience, which includes views of the city, the famous Merlion statue and the distinctive Henderson Waves Bridge pedestrian walkway. The Civic District holds most of the city’s 19th-century colonial buildings, including the National Gallery and the Asian Civilisations Museum. Orchard Road is the venerable retail boulevard which still attracts shoppers seeking top-shelf brands and department store emporia.

Singapore boasts a large Chinatown with  Buddhist and Hindu temples  and a Muslim mosque on the same street. Little India is another traditional ethnic enclave that has been hybridized in the unique Singaporean style. Kampong Glam is a hip shopping and dining district marked by the gilded dome of the Sultan Mosque. The Joo Chiat/Katong neighborhood is a good place to see and experience the local Peranakan blend of Chinese and Malay/Indonesian cultures, and especially the multi-colored, two-story shophouses that line its streets. Although the city boasts numerous Michelin-starred restaurants owned by many of the world’s most famous chefs, visitors are well-advised to graze the city’s many multi-stalled Hawker Centres for a mouth-watering variety of ethnic cuisines and to sample the world-renowned Straits Cuisine indigenous to the area. No visit to Singapore would be considered complete without a requisite  Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel . Nature lovers will also want to see the remarkable Jurong Bird Park in the suburbs, and if possible, indulge in a  night safari  in the large forest park reserved for nocturnal Southeast Asian species.

All told, Singapore teems with attractions and experiences to justify  an extended stay  before or after  your Seabourn voyage .
