Rick focuses on staying in the heart of the city, near the sights, usually in smaller, locally owned hotels. His guides are top notch and really set the tone for the trip. His choice of sights and activities are superb. Contrary to another review, Rick Steves always recommends traveling light and carrying your luggage on the plane.
What Do You Like Best and Least in a Rick Steves Tour

Tom, what we have been encouraged to do on RS tours in our free time, and given plenty of opportunity and guidance on what to do, is visit farmers' markets, visit shops for bread & cheese, lunch, etc., attend local music performances, explore back streets, and otherwise interact with locals, one on one.

Sicily is rated as one of the most active tours, and yes there is lots of walking, sometimes on uneven ground. As the other poster suggested, there is lots of information on the tour page. We took the Sicily tour fall of 2019. It was our 8th RS tour. Great tour, great food, lots of walking.

Glad you really enjoyed the tour! Scotland was my second (I've done 4). The age ranges definitely vary and as you take some more tours, you will probably find a few younger people to hand with. On my first RS tour, I was 37 (I'm now 43) and I usuallt you find at least 1 or 2 people a little closer to my age.

Tour reviews/evaluations vs. the tour forum
The tour reviews were a great resource that, as far as I know, was quite unique to RS tours. There were negative reviews, although overwhelmingly in the minority, but even they were helpful. And, with 18 tours under our belts, they certainly didn't discourage us from signing up for more of your tours.
