You’ll be sure to see some interesting plants and animals in the gardens.

The Foster Botanical Gardens requires just a small admission fee, but once inside, you have plenty of opportunities to explore the sights yourself on a self-guided tour or take advantage of the free guided tours every morning at 10:30 a.m.

Foster Botanical Gardens is nestled in the heart of Honolulu. To get to the gardens, begin by heading south on Highway 92 to Smith Street where you will turn left. Drive along Maunakea Street, then turn right to soon see your destination on the right!

Students, staff tour new elementary school facility in Philadelphia's Overbrook section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Friday was an exciting day for the students, faculty and staff of Lewis College Cassidy Academics Plus School in Philadelphia's Overbrook section.

The school's brand-new facility opened for a tour just ten days before school starts.

Action News also got a look inside the new facility.

"I like it cause it has a lot of color. The old Cassidy didn't have a lot of color. So, I think it brings more smiles, more energy," said 8th grader, Yasir.

After a $62 million investment, the school will serve pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Spanning more than 87,000 square feet, it features brand-new classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, including WiFi and smartboards.

Vibrant colors fill the hallways with words of affirmation like, "I am Worthy," displayed for all to see.

There is also a sprawling outdoor play area with all brand-new equipment.

"My favorite part is the cafeteria because it looks like we are at a restaurant," said 5th grader, Jaziyah.

"They have a school that they can actually call home. They aren't sharing anything, it's their school, and it's memories for them," said Curtis Anders, from Overbrook.

This school will accommodate 600 students, as the first bell rings on August 26.

The final stretch of the 2024 PGA Tour season has arrived. The FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, is the first of three playoff events to determine the FedEx Cup champion. The top 70 players from throughout the PGA Tour season will tee it up in Memphis for a shot at the tour's top prize. The total purse at TPC Southwind is $20 million, with $3.6 million going to the winner. Lucas Glover edged Patrick Cantlay in an extra hole at last season's event .

Welcome to Yale! Library offers tours, events, and resources for new students

Yale Library is rolling out the welcome mat for new students with library tours, an academic resource fair, and an opportunity for one student to win their own private study space in Bass Library for a semester.

Come to the fair.  The library will host an  Academic Resource Fair  for Yale College students in the Sterling Memorial Library nave on  Aug. 21, 10 a.m. to noon . Students are invited to learn about programs and opportunities offered by Academic Strategies, the Center for Language Study, Fellowships & Funding, Health Professions Advising, the Richard U. Light Fellowship, the Macmillan Center for International & Area Studies, the Office of Career Strategy, the Poorvu Center’s Writing Center & Tutoring Programs, STARS (Science Technology and Research program), the Yale Summer Session, Yale Study Abroad, the Yale in London program—and, of course, Yale Library.

Take a tour.  Librarian-led Yale Library Walking Tours are scheduled at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily Aug 26 through Aug. 29 . These hour-long tours introduce important locations and services in Sterling Memorial Library and Bass Library, the two main libraries on Cross-Campus connected by an underground tunnel. Half-hour tours of the Marx Science and Social Science Library in Kline Tower are held on the first Friday of every month at 2:30 p.m. The Haas Family Arts Library is also offering half-hour tours on Sept. 11, Sept. 19, Oct. 8, and Nov. 5 .  See the tour schedule.

122 Gates Hall College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Cornell University NASA leadership is visiting Cornell University on a Space for Ag Tour in order to have conversations with growers, stakeholders, and researchers about their needs and challenges; have two way dialogue with end users and stakeholders to improve NASA Earth Science’s research portfolio in specialty crop agriculture and viticulture; and foster a broader conversation about effective research translation into practice. 

The event will focus on the intersection of social science and digital agriculture.

Camp Foster – Okinawa Installation Overview

Camp Foster has two temporary lodging facilities located nearby Building 1 and the Macaroni Grill restaurant. These facilities are the Westpac Inn and Westpac Lodge. The Inn is for bachelor unaccompanied guests. Typically most inbound families to Camp Foster stay at the Westpac Lodge https://www.mccsokinawa.com/lodging/ or Shogun Inn https://af.dodlodging.net/propertys/Kadena-AB (Kadena AFB).  An alternative that many overlook is the well managed Navy Gateway Inn on Kadena AFB https://ngis.dodlodging.net/propertys/Okinawa-CFA—Japan . Kadena AFB is a short and usually fast drive from Camp Foster depending on time of day and traffic.

The base has a large newly renovated exchange in building 1004 which offers an impressive selection of goods and services one would expect to find in any stateside department store. The main exchange building houses a small food court with a Subway and Taco Bell shop.

Just next door and connected to the main store by covered walking path is the Camp Foster Marketplace (aka Mini Mall). The Marketplace rents store space to a multitude of local vendors which sell everything from furniture to souvenirs and clothing. This facility also has a barber shop, beauty shop, plaque shop, flower shop, optical center, garden store, Cinnabon, New Car Sales and cell phone dealers (AU and Softbank). If you need help mailing or packing all your purchases there is also a mail center/pack and wrap that can assist you for a small fee. Many of the vendors change out month to month so it is always worth stopping by to see what is new. There are also two Community Bank ATMs outside between the mini mall and Theatre.

Camp Foster has a large commissary. This particular commissary takes cash, credit, or debit and has convenient self-checkout lanes. There is also a deli, bakery, butcher onsite that one can order some fresh sushi or preorder a custom birthday cake. My husband and I spent a hour or more choosing a carpet to put in our home at the Foster Furniture Store. We paid for the carpet and set up the delivery service and were expecting the carpet tomorrow. Today we received a call from the store asking us to come in as they had lost our order slip. Upon arrival we were told that the man that did the transaction for us never put a sold sign on our carpet and it was already sold and out of the store. All the store offered was for us to pick a new carpet. Seriously?!?! No discount, no nothing except sorry we messed up pick a new one at the same price of the other one you already paid for. I am beyond furious and will never shop at this store again! Highly recommend you take your business elsewhere if you would like to take home the actual products you purchase!

Update, tours plus is no longer between the bowling alley and commissary. It is now Sumo Burrito and a frozen yogurt shop. Tours plus is located near the theater in the Tsunami Gear sports shop. Semper Gumby! (always flexible)

Can I know if tourist can visit Camp Foster area? I’m particularly interested in the Marine Thrift Shop.

Most of the bases open their gates to the general public during special events or festivals. Under normal conditions an authorized DOD ID card holder or person granted regular base access would have to sign in any guests and stay with those guests.

Jamie Lee Curtis has always been legendary, but now it’s official: she was named a Disney Legend on Sunday during the D23 Expo.

Lindsay Lohan took the stage to queue up a montage of Curtis’ most memorable roles, telling the crowd, “I have been able to have the pleasure of working with Jamie Lee Curtis. And the magic of Jamie Lee Curtis is that she is timeless. Every character she plays is different, and she always brings something unique to the role. And I feel so blessed to have Jamie as a friend in my life, and I feel lucky to work with a woman that I admire so much.”
