15 Best Travel Dresses in 2024 – Cute, Comfortable, and Wrinkle Free

  • Travel Gear

Looking for the best travel dresses? Here are the ones I’ve tried and love.

When I travel, I prefer wearing dresses. It simplifies your packing process and makes coordinating outfits on trips a breeze. The maximizer in me will be stressing about it all day, even with a packing list in hand, so it helps!

For this post, I tested many highly rated travel dresses mentioned on travel sites and got recommendations from our globetrotting friends on the road. Plus, I’m sharing a few of my own personal travel staples I’ve discovered along the way.

Essential Travel Tips for Packing Dresses

Many fitness and outdoor brands are also starting to make lifestyle lines so you can have stylish clothes that also perform well. Sometimes, you must dig through all the items that scream outdoorsy to find the gems.

We reached out to the major travel and outdoor brands on the market (including Adventure Dress, Anatomie, Fig Clothing, Helene Clarkson, prAna, Rec Room, Toad&Co) to identify their top sellers and then cross-referenced it with numerous travel sites, blogs, and globetrotting friends.

None required inclusion, and we returned any dresses that did not fit or travel well.

Many of these brands are pricier because they use performance fabrics and care more about fair trade and sustainability. But if you’re looking for mid to lower-price range dresses, we included those too.

Before we get into my top choices for dresses, here are some things I’m looking for when searching for the best travel dresses.

  • Comfort  – Though I might carry one fancier dress for a special occasion, most of the clothes I travel with are comfy chic.
  • Versatility  – can be dressed up or down. It’s even better if it’s convertible clothing or a 2-piece dress that makes it easy to mix and match. Usually, convertible clothing can be pretty ugly, but occasionally, you find a gem.
  • Wrinkle Free  – I don’t want to spend part of my trip ironing clothes.
  • Packable  – Light and easy to pack.
  • Performance  – Sweat-wicking or quick drying is icing on the cake. If the dress looks too sporty, though, it’s not a must.
  • Rompers and Jumpsuits? – If you’re outdoors all day with no bathroom, you will not want to strip naked. Trust me, this has happened to me, and it was uncomfortable.

Note: You know your body best and what style looks best on you. I’m generally a size 0 petite. If there’s no petite size, I accept that minis will look like midis, and midis will look like maxis on me.

The Best Travel Dresses in 2024

1. petal tunic dress (on sale $19 from $27) – most affordable →.

Activities:  Urban exploration. Sizing:  XS in Yellow (runs large on me)

It has low-quality fabric , but I’ve worn it for several years, and it holds up better than other fast fashion pieces I’ve owned. It’s mostly for city travel, but I’ve also worn this as a swimsuit cover-up and went SUPing.

The best part is that it’s affordable , and you can go on any adventure without feeling bad that you’ll mess it up .

  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down.
  • Can machine wash cold and tumble dry low.
  • Affordable.
  • Will wrinkle
  • Fabric is not comfortable. It has some stretch but isn’t very soft.
  • Low-quality fabric with a “plasticky” feel, but it’s sewn together well.

2. Free Fly Apparel Heritage Dress ($88) – Most Comfortable Travel Dress →

Activities:  Urban exploration. Materials: 55% Cotton | 45% Viscose from Bamboo Sizing:  XS in Heather Black (true to size but long on me)

This is by far the most comfortable dress I own. Comfortable clothes tend to look slouchier, but this one, surprisingly, is more flattering than I expected. It’s easy to throw on during hot summer days, and luckily, their midi dress hits right at maxi length for me.

I also like layering over this with a sweater during the winter. Also, I must have a favorite pose right now. lol

  • Comfortable and stretchy
  • Soft Fabric
  • UPF 50+ sun protection
  • Flattering fit; not too loose or tight
  • Side slits for easy movement
  • Hang dry recommended
  • Not as many color options

3. Encircled 3-piece Reversible Dressy Knit Dress + Jumpsuit (on Sale $188 from $389) →

Activities:  Urban exploration. Materials: Rayon from Bamboo, Spandex Rib Knit Sizing:  XS in Martini Olive (true to size)

I love this 3-piece set , which can be worn four ways. The top is reversible , with a boat neck on one side and a scoop neck on the other. Then you can pair it with their skirt or their wide-leg pants . My biggest complaint is that the skirt has no pockets.

  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down across multiple seasons.
  • Reversible top .
  • Breathable fabric.
  • Sustainably sourced. Certified B-Corp.
  • Sustainable packaging.
  • Full bra coverage straps.
  • Can machine wash.
  • Pockets on the wide-leg pants .
  • Women-owned, women-run.
  • Pricier, but I don’t mind paying more for sustainable, ethically-made clothes.
  • In some light, you can see unflattering lines created by the tank.
  • Must lay flat to dry (They suggest you always line dry. Did you know air drying can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 2400 lbs a year?).
  • No pockets on the skirt .
  • Will wrinkle.

4. Prana Luxara Dress (On sale $59 from $119) – Best Activewear Dress for Travel →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Outdoor Adventures in Heat, Hot Yoga Material:  76% Recycled Nylon, 24 Elastane Size Worn:  XS in Spiced (true to size on me)

This is an excellent activewear dress, especially for warm-weather destinations like Las Vegas! The Luxara is Prana’s lightest material and is perfect for hiking in the heat. It fits like a hug and is more comfortable than my Girlfriend Collective Lola Dress, my other active dress with a built-in shorty.

  • Ultra-lightweight
  • Moisture wicking and Quick Dry
  • UPF Sun Protection
  • Stretchy and comfortable
  • Built-in shorts
  • Interior pocket in shorts
  • Some recycled materials
  • Only one pocket
  • Some reviews mention it’s too short, but it’s a great length for me.

5. Prana Cozy Up Bayjour Dress (Out of Stock) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Beach, Soft Adventures Material:  55% Hemp | 25% Recycled Polyester | TENCEL™ Lyocell Size Worn:  XS in Heather Grey (true to size)

I loved all my previous Prana dresses (now discontinued), so I knew I would love the Cozy Up Bayjour Dress. It is soft and comfortable , can be dressed up or down , and  pockets  are always a plus. I’ll later post up all the mixing and matching I can do with my wardrobe and this dress.

  • Soft fabric
  • Lightweight than most dresses, but on this list, it’s one of the heavier fabrics.
  • Flattering shape with rib knit tank bodice
  • Bacteria resistant
  • Quick drying
  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down
  • On-seam pockets
  • Some recycled fibers and eco-friendly materials
  • Other reviewers mention the fabric is heavier than expected, and the black color looks faded.
  • The waistline could be higher to be more flattering on petite frames. It’s better for average or taller heights.

6. Toad and co Jumper ($125) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration Material:  100% Organic Cotton Size Worn:  XS in Honey Brown (fits large on me)

I love this jumper for travel days when I have multiple activities requiring multiple outfits. Instead of bringing two outfits per day, I can throw this over the same top, which makes for an easy day-to-night transition. I did this twice on our Washington trip , where I had to hike during the day but had more formal dinners later.

  • Easy to throw on.
  • Soft and comfortable
  • Lots of pockets (one zippered pocket for valuables)
  • Can machine wash
  • Oeko-tex standard
  • Shipped in a recyclable paper sleeve.
  • Joy-backed guarantee. You can return it within 90 days if you don’t get a compliment within three wearings or it doesn’t bring you joy.
  • Runs large if you’re petite, but I don’t mind wearing it looser.

7. Arc’teryx Contenta Dress (Out of Stock) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Outdoor Adventures Material:  100% recycled Diem™ polyester Size Worn:  XS in Light Immersion (true to size on me)

They made a newer version of this dress with a looser silhouette and a scooped neckline. Meanwhile, I still have the older version.

This dress is the  most lightweight option  on here and feels the most breezy out of all the dresses. I especially gravitate towards it on hot summer days (we have plenty of them in Vegas).

  • Lightweight
  • Anti-wrinkle
  • Can wear it two ways.
  • Materials meet the Bluesign criteria for sustainability.
  • The elastic waistband inside is annoying to cinch the waist (the newer version has it on the outside).

8. Anatomie Taya Racerback Maxi Dress (On Sale $78 From $168) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, Beach, Nicer Dinners, Work trips Material:  95% Viscose / 5% Elastane Size Worn:  XS in Navy (true to size on me other than length)

Let me start by saying I’m a big fan of Anatomie’s line of travel clothes. Everything is  high quality . I own two pairs of Skylar Pants in black and gray because they’re perfect for flying, and now this dress!

The performance fabric keeps you comfortable, and the mesh panel makes it perfect for warm-weather travel.

  • Stretchy, Relaxed fit
  • Flattering shape
  • I had to hem it since there are no petite sizes

9. Helene Clarkson Sabi Reversible Halter Dress (on sale $94 from $189) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, Work travel Material:  95% polyester, 5% spandex Size Worn:   XS in teal  (true to size on me)

The material is so soft and comfortable that I can practically  sleep in it ! What initially drew me to this dress was that it’s  reversible , and you can wear it as a mock-neck halter style or a v-neck. Also, since the fabric is so thin, you can wear it as a top with baggier bottoms like joggers.

  • Wrinkle Free
  • Reversible – front is a pleated mock neck, and the back is a relaxed v-neck. I typically only wear it on the mock neck side, though.
  • Hang to dry
  • It’s easy to snag, so be careful around sharp objects or velcro.

10. Bluffworks Threshold Tie Waist T-Shirt Dress (On sale $46 from $78) →

Activities:  Urban exploration Material:  66% Polyester, 29% Lyocell, 5% elastane Size Worn:  XS Petite in Deep Maroon (runs large on me)

Jacob has been wearing Bluffworks clothes for years, and now that they have started carrying women’s clothes, I finally got to check out one of their dresses. Their threshold tie waist t-shirt dress uses a super soft fabric that feels like your old favorite tee. The fit runs a half-size large on me in XS, their smallest size, but most of their reviews say it fits true to size.

  • Comfy, soft fabric.
  • Machine washable
  • Odor resistant
  • Wrinkle resistant
  • Moisture wicking/quick drying
  • 4 total pockets (2 on interior)
  • It fits loose on me and isn’t flattering on the side you don’t tie. It probably looks better on you if it fits more snugly.

11. Girlfriend Collective – Lola V-neck Dress (on sale $88) →

Activities:  Hiking, Climbing, Urban exploration. Material:  90% RPET and 10% spandex Size Worn:  XS in alpine (true to size on me)

The Lola V-Neck is perfect for any activity. With its  built-in shorts , you can hike or climb without worrying about flashing people. They make them out of  90% recycled plastic bottles  (RPET).

Plus, they have their  ReGirlfriend recycling program , where they turn your dress into future clothes.

It was also perfect for travel with a  diverse range of activities . We zip-lined in the morning before exploring the city, and the built-in shorts made that all possible.

Girlfriend Collective sent me two dresses to showcase on  my climbing account , but I loved them so much that I included them here.

  • Comfortable fabric.
  • Flattering shape with compression around the waist and hips.
  • Built-in bra.
  • Built-in shorts.
  • Pockets on inner shorts.
  • Sweat-wicking.
  • Ultra-lightweight.
  • Sustainably made from 90% recycled plastic bottles, and they have a recycle program called ReGirlfriend.
  • Must be hang-dried.
  • Doesn’t hide stiff nips, and if you’re already flat, it flattens you more.
  • Harder to take on and off to go to the bathroom.
  • Looks more sporty.

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Beach, Soft Adventures Material:  48% TENCEL™ Lyocell | 48% Organic Cotton | 4% Elastane Size Worn:  XS in Salt (runs large on me)

The Marley Tiered dress is  comfortable,  versatile, and perfect for hot summers. It’s easy to throw on whether lounging at home or exploring the city.

Toad and Co values  sustainability , and I thought it was cute that even their tags are made to be reusable as a coaster.

  • Loose, flowy silhouette
  • Bra-friendly coverage
  • Made with eco-friendly fibers and packaging
  • Joy-backed guarantee
  • The bust runs large for me since I’m petite and flat-chested.

13. Fig CLothing Hampton Dress (On sale $72 from $89) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, soft adventure Material:  100% Cotton (Honeycomb terry) Size Worn:  XS in Terracotta Stripe (true to size on me)

Fig makes practical travel clothes that make no sacrifice on style, and the Hampton dress has been the perfect addition to my capsule wardrobe. I love the simple design and the in-seam pockets.

  • Soft on skin
  • Comfortable
  • UPF 25 solar protection
  • In-seam pockets
  • Quality fabric
  • Heavier than my other travel dresses because of its thicker fabric

14. Milumia Button Up Split Floral Print Flowy Party Maxi Dress ($44) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, beach

I wear an XS in Beige Yellow, but the dress runs big and fits loose on me (I’m a petite XS, sometimes XXS).

The fit isn’t perfect on me, but it still looks great for photos (see photo below). I have other travel bloggers friends with this same dress who own it in multiple colors. If it fits you, it’s a fan favorite.

  • Comfortable, soft fabric
  • Machine Washable
  • Must be line-dried
  • Fits baggy on me.

15. Encircled Chrysalis Cardi Dress ($215) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, in flight.

I learned about Encircled and had the Chrysalis Cardi back in 2015. I love how this wrap dress can be worn in 8+ different ways (see  all the ways here ).

  • Premium quality and made to last
  • Can be worn 8+ different ways
  • Sustainability – They use the most natural and sustainable fabrics available and are a Certified B Corp and Oeko Tex 100 Certified
  • Heavy Fabric
  • Will Wrinkle
  • Must be line-dried and takes a while to dry, but I think the fabric has since changed.
  • Not all the ways have a flattering fit.

encircled chrysalis cardi

Many of my favorite dresses are discontinued now. It’s worth noting that some travel apparel brands that shut down include Rec Room, Vacaystyle, and the Adventure Dress (the website is still there, but all their dresses have been sold out for several years).

Do you own any of these?

More Travel Dresses – Honorable Mentions

  • The Undress  – the dress that lets you undress anywhere.
  • Uniqlo A-line Mini Bra Dress  – love when the bra is built in. So comfy.
  • Toad & Co Camp-co Romper – as long as you don’t mind traveling in a romper. It feels like linen but has a cleaner footprint.

If you want to avoid wrinkles, use these packing tips:

  • Don’t overpack.
  • Lay the dress flat inside a plastic dry cleaning bag. Fold it in its natural shape.
  • Pack them last or on top of everything else.
  • Roll softer garments.
  • Use a  mini travel steamer .
  • If your clothes are wrinkled, hang them in the bathroom while you take a steamy hot shower.

What do you think of these dresses? Which of them would you most likely wear? Have you tried any travel dresses (the ones are specifically made for travel)?

When you're busy stuffing clothes into your carry-on or luggage set , figuring out what to wear to the airport may be your last priority, but a good travel dress will give you an effortless, polished look you can use and reuse once you reach your destination.

Where a travel dress differs from any other standard dress is in its durability and ability to be easily styled up or down. Depending on accessories, a travel dress can look as fancy or casual as you want it to be, but its material will usually be made from wrinkle-resistant, quick-drying, or stretchy fabric. This kind of material makes it comfy to wear on long travel days or days where you'll be getting a lot of movement in.

When shopping for a travel dress, you should consider how the dress can be layered with other items to adapt to different weather conditions, says Addie Bell , CEO of Jetset and Travel, a travel consulting agency and affiliate of SmartFlyer. She also recommends checking that it's suitable for both day and night activities, which will maximize its utility—you can use it while traveling and during your actual trip.

Here are a few other things to consider.

What to consider

Since travel days often include a lot of walking, you'll want to make sure your dress' fabric is breathable. This will also come in handy if you're traveling to a warm weather destination. Breathable fabrics Bell recommends include cotton or linen. Other materials you can consider are jersey, spandex blends, and certain synthetics, like polyester. "[These] wrinkle-resistant materials...are best if you need to maintain a polished look after being packed," Bell says.

When traveling, Bell typically goes for longer dresses since they offer more coverage and comfort, Bell says. But, "a midi or knee-length dress strikes a perfect balance between style and practicality, and is typically suitable for a variety of activities and settings," she adds. When choosing the length of her dress, Bell also considers what the weather is like. "Longer dresses provide more coverage and protection from the sun, while shorter dresses can be more comfortable in hot climates," she says. Whatever the length you're comfortable with, she recommends making sure your dress allows for easy movement, especially when doing a lot of walking or activities.

The color of your dress is your preference, but Bell says that neutral tones like black, navy, white, and beige are versatile and easy to mix and match with other wardrobe pieces. "Subtle patterns can also help hide wrinkles and stains, making the dress more travel-friendly."

On the other side, bright colors can add a fun, vibrant touch to travel and can be used to complement the destination you're visiting, Bell says. "I always recommend sticking within a similar color palette to ensure they match other items you’re bringing," she adds.

How we chose

For the past few months, Women's Health editors, including lifestyle and commerce editor Jasmine Gomez, researched and tested the best travel dresses for jetsetting in style and comfort. In addition to testing dresses based on durability, material feel, and their ability to stand up to lots of movement and long hours, we also consulted travel expert Addie Bell, founder and CEO of Jetset and Travel, a travel consulting agency. She's also an avid traveler who also provides trip and packing advice.

Before you plan your next trip to one of the award winners in our 2024 Healthy Travel Awards , below find the eight best travel dresses, tested by travel experts.

Lululemon's Align dress boasts some of the many features Lulu's cult and editor-favorite Align leggings do. We found that it's super lightweight, breathable, and buttery-soft. What's even better is what's underneath the dress—a built-in bra and a shorts liner with drop-in pockets. The dress is on the shorter side, but the shorts provide reassurance when bending over to pick up luggage or during other travel-related tasks.

The dress is also designed from sweat-wicking material, so those who run hot will not only like this option because it leaves more skin exposed, but because it keeps that skin that is covered up cool and dry. When you're not traveling in it, it also makes a great option for low-impact activity, since the dress was actually designed for yoga.

After having our editors put over 10 travel dress options to the test, the Racer Back Maxi Dress from CSB came out on top for its stretchy feel that makes it easy to move around in, polished look, and easy to style nature.

"Running to the airport is stressful, which is why I love this dress for a comfortable, effortless look that seems like I actually spent time getting dressed," says lifestyle and commerce editor Jasmine Gomez. She likes that you can easily pair it with jewelry, a nice bag, or even a sun hat to make an outfit that's great for travel, but also ideal for immediately hitting the streets once you reach your destination.

To offer an ideal fit, the dress is made from a ribbed fabric blend that offers slight compression, giving this dress a shapewear-like feel that isn't overly constricting. Its maxi length, low scoop neckline, and racerback design also makes it perfect for those who want a full coverage option that's still ideal for warm weather, but even colder temps when it's layered with other clothing.

Though there's a limited number of color options available, the three it does come in–brown, gray, and black—are great basic tones that pair together nicely with almost anything.

Those traveling for work or looking for a more polished option will like Uniqlo's AIRism Sleeveless dress. Though you'll look ready for an interview, the dress is very functional for traveling, since its fabric is stretchy, features pockets on both sides, and is made of quick-drying material. The dress's fabric is made from a polyester blend, which is what lends to its more polished look—it's a way less sportier option than Lululemon's Align dress for sure.

Most people will also find that the dress has a flattering fit. It's designed with a fit-and-flare silohouette created by panel lines that are cut to create a contoured look. Our testers that value sustainability also gave the dress bonus points for being partly made using recycled materials.

Vuori Pose Sands Dress

Pose Sands Dress

Vuori's Pose Sands Dress is an excellent pick for those that plan on walking a ton of miles while sightseeing and taking photos for the 'gram. Though it's on the longer side, the side slit makes it really easy to move in and the rib knit fabric makes it resistant to wrinkles.

The dress is also designed to hug the body in all the right places. In fact, we found that it offers a bit of compression, though the slit alleviates some of that tension, making it a next-level comfy option. Editors particularly liked that it can be paired with either sneakers, heels, or boots depending on the look you're going for or the terrain or weather you're conquering. If you're not wearing it to the airport, you'll like that the dress is a space-saver. It packs light and compactly, making it a great option for those traveling only with carry-ons.

Beyond Yoga City Chic Dress

City Chic Dress

If you've looked around recently, you know cargo is in, and this dress from Beyond Yoga is both trendy and functional. It's designed to flatter all body types, thanks to its adjustable cinched waist. The waistband's stretchy drawcord lets you achieve a customized fit that feels uniquely comfortable to you.

Our testers particularly like the dress's spacey pockets, which lets you store important documents, like an ID or boarding pass while you're traveling. The dress is also made with a two-way zipper, which makes it super easy to go to the bathroom without having to scrunch your dress up in risk of wrinkling it. The collar gives it an elevated look, and its quick-drying polyester fabric, a soft feel worth wearing on long travel days.

Anrabess Summer Casual Tank Dress

Summer Casual Tank Dress

Those looking for a cozy, put-together option will like this Amazon dress. It's looser in nature, but pleated and tiered with a deep v-neckline, and those small details make all the difference. Plus, you can't beat its budget-friendly price of less than $40.

Depending on what you pair it with, the dress is appropriate for a variety of settings from a morning stroll to a more formal dinner, and its flowy nature makes it a breeze to travel in, too. We like that its pockets are very roomy, and that it has a lightweight, non-constricting feel, which is ideal for long days on your feet or longer flights or commutes. Plus, the dress is available in over 10 colors, so it isn't hard to find one you particularly love.

Grecerelle Short Sleeve Casual Summer Dress

Short Sleeve Casual Summer Dress

While the other dresses on this list are mostly available in neutral tones, this one offers a lot more color options. You can buy it in basic colors, like black, white, and navy blue, but it's also available in floral, paisley patterns, and more. Made from a blend of rayon and spandex, the dress is also breathable and stretchy.

We found that the fabric is very similar to a nice t-shirt, so its comfy feel makes it great for wearing for hours on end. Though it doesn't wrinkle easily, this dress is more prone to wrinkles than others on this list, which is something to keep in mind if you hate ironing or steaming. Some of our testers also pointed out that the waistband is one of the most forgiving on this list, making it a great option for those with wider hips who don't like drawstring or elastic waistbands.

Sweaty Betty Sweaty Betty Power Workout Dress

Sweaty Betty Power Workout Dress

Tenniscore is in, and it turns out that many tennis dresses actually make good travel dresses, too. That's because they're designed to withstand a ton of movement, sweaty activity, and come with built-in features like shorts and a bra to offer a little more coverage than a traditional dress.

Made with an elastane blend, our travel testers like that this dress is stretchy but contoured, creating a flattering, sculpted fit. The material is quick-drying and moisture-wicking, which means it can stand up against warm weather, wet travel days, and more. Since the fabric is on the thinner side, it's also rolls or packs nicely into any luggage, saving you more space for your bulkier items.

Take Our Word For It

Real Simple / David Hattan

Globetrotting requires a love of exploration, a curiosity about the world around you, and, of course, a vacation-ready wardrobe. A good pair of joggers and comfortable shoes are a must, but the often-overlooked (and underrated) travel dress will see you through transit and sightseeing in comfort and style.

“With their versatility and ease, travel dresses are the perfect companion for a variety of destinations,” says Angelique Coleman , stylist at Stitch Fix. “You can look polished with minimal effort while keeping your suitcase light.”

To help you find the best travel dresses for your upcoming trips, we researched countless options in a wide variety of styles, sizes, prices, and fits. We also asked Coleman for her expert insight on what makes a dress good for travel, how to keep clothes unwrinkled in suitcases , and more.

Best Maxi Travel Dresses

“Versatility and comfort should be top considerations when you’re looking for a maxi dress for travel,” Coleman says, as “you want something you can wear for a range of occasions. You can wear a maxi wear with sneakers or sandals during the day and then strappy heels in the evening. You’ll be able to pack lighter, saving room for some travel shopping.”

With six patterned options and a lightweight, flowy skirt, the Abercombie & Fitch Smocked Bodice Maxi Dress is perfect for warm-weather vacations. For a sleeveless design and a soft knit fabric, the Banana Republic Knit Cross-Back Maxi Dress will keep you comfortable on any trip, and you can choose from two neutral colors and regular or petite sizes.

Best Travel Dresses With Pockets

When you’re traveling, you need an easy way to store your most essential items on the go, which is where dresses with pockets come in. “Pockets are a huge bonus in a travel dress,” Coleman says. “They let you keep your must-haves close and could eliminate the need to carry around a bag for sightseeing adventures.”

We love this simple and cute above-the-knee Transcend Dress from Athleta. Made from a mix of nylon and lycra, it’s as comfortable as it gets and comes with built-in shorts with pockets to store small items like your phone, wallet, or hotel key card. For a less casual option, this Linen Button Front Dress from Quince is pretty and elegant. It’s available in 11 colors and patterns, made from soft, lightweight linen, and has a removable tie waist.

Best T-Shirt Travel Dresses

T-shirt dresses are known for their comfort and ease, making them excellent choices for travel. “Depending on your travel plans, you may want to opt for something laid back and simple, like a T-shirt maxi dress,” Coleman says. If you have a long plane ride in store, she adds, you’re going to love this casual, comfortable style.

For example, this casual and cute Essential Tee Dress from Athleta has a comfortable relaxed fit, breathable and stretchy feel, and versatile crew neck design. For a slightly elevated option, the Linen Daytripper Shirtdress from Everlane is ideal for those who love a loose fit, chest pockets, and high-low hems.

Best Wrap Travel Dresses

Wrap dresses are a classic, beloved look, and depending on your itinerary, they can be ideal for travel. “If you’ve got special plans on the horizon when you get to your destination, you may want to seek out a wrap dress,” Coleman says. “The classic silhouette gives you the comfort you want for traveling while offering more versatility.”

For a flowy wrap dress that’s made from breathable, soft jersey knit fabric that you’ll feel comfortable wearing all day long, the Tercel Jersey Midi Wrap Dress from Quince is a great option. Another is the Everlane Ribbed Wrap Midi Dress , which many reviewers actually call “the perfect dress for travel.” With its ribbed detailing, it’s both casual and sophisticated, and we love its dropped shoulders, wide sleeves, and ultra-soft fabric.

Best Travel Dresses Under $70

Although you can certainly splurge on travel dresses, there are plenty of budget-friendly options that offer the proper durability, versatility, and comfort. “You’re sure to find styles and materials that meet your preferences without compromising on quality,” Coleman says.

Take the Traveler Mini Dress from Abercrombie & Fitch: As its name implies, this low-cost dress is custom-made for travel, with its built-in shorts (with pockets!), comfortable knit fabric, and versatile design. It’s also available in 14 pretty colors and patterns. If you’re looking to add a second dress to your travel wardrobe, the Halara Softlyzero Airy Backless Dress offers a cute and functional design with built-in shorts (also with pockets), moisture-wicking fabric, 21 color options, and an inclusive size range that goes from XS to 4X.

How to Shop for Travel Dresses Like a Pro

Packability.

One major factor to consider when shopping for a travel dress is how packable it is. After all, you’ll want to be able to fit as much as possible in your suitcases and not have to worry about the items getting damaged or badly wrinkled. Coleman recommends buying dresses made from soft, stretchy materials like polyester or spandex, as they’re easy to care for if they get dirty or wrinkled. “Washability matters when you have to pack light and are on the go,” she says.

Coleman also recommends avoiding white linen if you’re packing tightly, because although the material is popular for its breathability, it does tend to wrinkle more easily if it isn’t packed well. That’s not to say you can’t wear linen—just make sure you fold it into your suitcase nicely and bring some wrinkle spray.

Versatility

A great travel dress shouldn’t only work for a specific trip or activity, but it should also be rewearable for numerous occasions and outside of the trip. “Don’t shy away from wearing your new travel dress when you’ve landed back at home,” Coleman says.

She recommends picking travel dresses with features that you can change up depending on the occasion you’re wearing them to, the weather, and more. “Adjustable or removable straps are another feature I look for in dresses for travel,” Coleman says.

Destination and Activities

“If you’re heading to a tropical destination, keep an eye out for lightweight and breathable dresses made from linen or cotton to stay cool and comfortable,” Coleman says. If your plans are more city based, she recommends opting for structured yet breezy options that can pair with walking shoes and have “chic and sophisticated appeal to take from day to night.”

For trips with hiking or other sporty activities involved, Coleman advises focusing on athletic dresses that come with built-in shorts so you don’t have to sacrifice style for coverage, and you can sport them with your activewear sneakers . Plus, she adds, athletic dresses “tend to be made of moisture-wicking materials, making them a must-have for toasty temperatures.”

Questions You Might Ask

What kind of dress is good for travel.

Any dress that is comfortable and easily reusable is likely going to be good for travel—especially if it has pockets and/or adjustable straps—but Coleman recommends maxi dresses, in particular, due to their comfort, coverage, and versatility. Plus, you can pair your maxi with practically any shoe and it’ll look good, including sneakers, sandals, and heels. Coleman also calls out linen dresses as being fantastic for travel because the fabric is breathable and offers natural cooling properties. “Not having to deal with an uncomfortable fit means you can put all your attention on your trip,” she says.

What dress materials won’t wrinkle?

As much as we’d all like to never have to worry about wrinkled clothing, it’s a common occurrence during travel, since the pieces are usually packed up tightly and taken from place to place. That said, picking materials that are designed to be wrinkle resistant can make a huge difference, such as jersey, knits, and some synthetic blends like polyester or spandex.. “These materials make for light and easy packing while lessening the chance you’ll have to find the iron ,” she explains.

The Best Wrinkle-Free Women’s Clothes for Travel, According to Frequent Fliers

Relaxed Air Travel

You’ve tried packing cubes and rolling your shirts up Marie Kondo –style and yet, most likely, all your clothes still come out of your suitcase wrinkled when you reach your destination. Or maybe you have an important meeting right after landing , and your once-polished outfit looks rumpled after hours in economy . Like other travel dilemmas — finding a bag that’ll fit under the seat in front of you or trying to sleep on a transcontinental flight — arriving with a suitcase full of wrinkly clothes can be solved. To avoid pricey hotel dry-cleaning services, or risky sessions with your in-room ironing board, we asked nine women in the travel business to recommend the best pieces to wear and pack while you’re away.

Best wrinkle-free pants for travel

Eileen Fisher Ankle Length Straight Pants with Gathered Waist

For travel pants that are comfortable, stylish and low-maintenance, Jeralyn Gerba, co-founder and editorial director of Fathom , likes easy pieces from Eileen Fisher . “She’s known for researching and developing materials that are responsible, sustainable, and high-performance while also being crazy chic,” says Gerba. “I love her uncrushable Tencel, a tree fiber textile produced with near zero waste — the drawstring pants and blazers look really good after long-haul flights.” The adjustable drawstring allows for in-flight comfort while the textured crepe lends them a sophisticated look.

Athleta Skyline Pant

A similar pair at a lower price point, these slim, drawstring pants are a favorite of Sarah Corsa, a trip designer at Journy . She likes that they’re “lightweight and rarely wrinkle.” Gerba also looks to Athleta for “casual basics with the occasional flair,” and says their athleisure pieces offer “a nice alternative to the straight-up sweats uniform” while traveling.

Outdoor Voices RecTrek Pant

Outdoor Voices, makers of our favorite “sleek and tailored” sweatpants, are another frequent flier go-to for easy-to-wear pieces that’ll look fresh after a long journey. Journy co-founder Leiti Hsu, calls the RekTrek pants “the ultimate in comfort.” She says they “stay crisp from laundry cycle to laundry cycle” and “look way more pulled-together than yoga pants.”

The Row Tao Straight-Leg Stretch-Cotton Pants

“I have a few pairs of stretchy but tailored trousers from The Row that are incredibly comfortable and easy to pack,” says Jen Rubio, co-founder and chief-brand officer of Away . They’ll give an outfit more polish than a jogger-type pant while still being wrinkle-resistant and non-constricting on long flights. Rubio says she’ll pair hers with a T-shirt and leather jacket.

Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants

Based in San Francisco, the clothing start-up Betabrand sells pieces based on crowd-sourced designs, like these trouser-style pants that come highly recommended by Larissa Hayden, deputy director of events at Atlas Obscura . She likes that they’re crafted “with comfort, durability, and professionalism in mind,” and have all the comfort of stretchy sweats.

Best wrinkle-free leggings for travel

American Eagle High-Waisted Jegging

If you’d rather go the leggings route, Melissa Hie of Girl Eat World swears these jeggings “look exactly like jeans but are very stretchy and comfortable like leggings.” She says, “I would just pair this with a comfortable button-up shirt if I need to look somewhat put together straight off the plane.”

Calzedonia Thermal Leather-Effect Leggings

For leggings that can be dressed up, Hsu likes this expensive-looking (but actually quite affordable) faux -leather pair. “Tuck them in your carry-on for a sexy go-to that [can go from] day to dinner in any city,” she says. “They’re secretly lined with cozy fleece on the inside; all the better to brave your next winter dining adventure.”

Best wrinkle-free tops for travel

Uniqlo Rayon Long-Sleeve Blouse

Travelers love Uniqlo’s affordable and durable pieces for comfort and style. Hie says their button-downs are perfect for wearing with leggings to easily look put-together. And while she normally prefers natural fabrics, when it comes to travel she says, “I go with polyester-blend fabrics since they don’t wrinkle as much.” Like polyester, rayon is far more wrinkle-resistant than cotton or linen.

Loft Ruffle Henley Utility Blouse

Also polyester, but with a silky feel and sweet ruffle details, this packable top is one of Corsa’s favorites. “It can be worn in basically any climate, for tons of occasions,” she says. “It never wrinkles and still looks new after years.”

Uniqlo Heattech Turtleneck Long-Sleeve T-Shirt

Gerba calls Uniqlo’s warming Heattech turtleneck, an essential layering piece for cold-weather travel or even ice-cold planes, “basic, but solid.” In warmer climates, Stephanie Park, co-founder and vice-president of operations at Journy, likes the brand’s AIRism line. “Not only do the breathable base layers release heat and moisture to adapt to different weather conditions, but they also remain remarkably wrinkle-free, even after long flights,” she says.

Theory Bringam Crepe Top

According to Rubio, Theory’s “crepe knits will never wrinkle, no matter how much of an overpacker you are,” which is good news if you need to look professional right after a red-eye flight.

Best wrinkle-free dresses for travel

Love, Bonito Reiley A-Line Dress

Simple, packable slip dresses were called out by several travelers as highly versatile items. Hie opts for colorful ones from Singapore-based, women-founded brand Love, Bonito. “They are made out of a polyester blend and [don’t] t get wrinkled even if they are straight out of the suitcase,” she says. “I love them because they are very basic, which means I can pair them with accessories to dress them up or down.”

Nili Lotan Silk Slipdress

Rubio counts her black Nili Lotan slip dress as ones of her perfect travel pieces that’s “practical and comfortable, yet stylish and versatile so that my look can easily transition from day to night.” She’ll wear it with a blazer and loafers on the plane, and switch to boots once she lands. And while it may seem like a fussy pick, Gerba says she frequently packs silk because “it looks good, weighs nothing, and its wrinkles fall out easily.”

Everlane Japanese GoWeave Tank Wrap Dress

For a fraction of the price, Journy trip designer Lauren Witte likes this bright Everlane wrap dress which, she says, is also “made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric,” and can work for both casual and dressier events.

Wolford Asymmetric Dress

If slip dresses aren’t your style, Hsu says she’s “obsessed with Wolford’s selection of stretchy dresses that roll up almost as tiny as hosiery.” Since it takes up barely any space she says they’re the ideal “just-in-case” dresses to pack if the need to dress up arises, and she calls her simple, black sheath “a lifesaver.”

Best wrinkle-free layers for travel

Eileen Fisher Stand-Collar Open Blazer

Like the Eileen Fisher pants recommended by Gerba, this blazer is made of Tencel and can withstand long flights and not-so-tidy packing. Plus, as several of our travel pros noted, blazers play well with basics like lightweight tops and cami dresses, giving you some mix-and-match outfits for your journey without having to overpack.

Loro Piana Cashmere Fringe-Trim Opera Stole

“A black versatile cashmere wrap is a must-have for my busy travel schedule,” says Elizabeth Fuller, director of marketing and partnerships at Black Tomato . “It doubles as a blanket on a chilly flight and won’t wrinkle if you stow it in your carry on to go through security.” She likes the very elegant. fringed Loro Piano version, but if you’re on a budget, the under-$100 silk-blended wrap from cashmere startup Naadam will also do the trick.

Reformation Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater

Like Fuller, Hsu thinks quality cashmere is a worthwhile travel investment. “Compared with other fabrics, cashmere doesn’t require washing all that often and is naturally temperature moderating,” she says, making it a natural fit for an on-the-go lifestyle. Her favorites are classic cuts with unique details from brands like Reformation and Rag & Bone .

What to wear in Russia

What to Wear in Russia

Top style tips for russia.

  • Russia is fairly conservative, and if you choose to wear bright colors – particularly in the winter months – you will stand out.
  • Jeans are always popular here and, teamed with lighter layers for the summer and warmer ones for the winter, will serve as a versatile base to your wardrobe.
  • Add in a smarter outfit for more formal occasions , such as the ballet or opera. Whilst it's not compulsory, the locals do dress up for these events and you'll feel more comfortable if you do the same.
  • The attitude towards wearing fur is very different in Russia compared to Western Europe. Fur is very common and relatively cheap, and you will see a lot of people wearing it.
  • If you are looking for a highly versatile travel jacket to bring along we recommend the  SCOTTeVEST  range. Their range of jackets have been specifically designed with traveling in mind and include RFID security (to protect your passport information), 23 secure pockets and personal connectivity integration.

Shoes to pack for Russia

  • If you're intending to see as many sites as possible during your trip (and there are a lot to see) you'll be doing a good deal of walking – so be sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes . We love Hotter shoes , for total comfort along with style.

Pack for the weather

  • November, December, January, February and March are freezing so be ready to dress warmly. Our advice would be to pack warm layers.
  • For extra warmth pack some long thermal underwear – you'll be grateful you did.
  • light wool is a good choice to wear against your skin as it naturally helps to regulate your body temperature . It keeps you warm in the cold, wicks away moisture when it's hot, and doesn't retain odours – even after prolonged wear.
  • Muscovites wear a lot of fur in the winter – for a reason. Whether your preference is for fake or the real thing, you are well advised to have a very thick warm coat, gloves and scarf. A hat and/or ear muffs are also a very good idea. A furry lining or trim will keep you even cosier.
  • Wear really good boots with soft rubber soles . It's important that you get soft rubber soles because even medium soles get really hard in the freezing cold. Make sure too that they have large spaces between the tracks, or the snow will get stuck in them and make them very slippery.
  • Dressing in layers will help you with the temperature changes during the day, whatever time of year you visit.
  • Be sure to pack your swimwear if you want to join in the winter time ritual bathing in hot and cold pools, steam rooms and saunas.
  • We love the Weather+ app – it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too – a nice way to remember your trip 🙂

Clothing tips for women

  • Moscow and St Petersburg are very much like any other cosmopolitan city ; women love to dress up and are rarely seen without make-up and high heels.
  • But, with all the sightseeing to do, we suggest you save your high heels for the evenings.
  • A few well chosen pieces of costume jewelry will transform any outfit.
  • And a pashmina is a versatile piece too that will dress up any outfit – try it with a simple smart dress.
  • If you are planning to visit an Orthodox Church be sure to cover your head with a scarf, and cover up bare arms and legs – your pashmina or wrap can come in handy for this too.
  • If you are in Russia on business, pack a conservative skirt-suit with tights or stockings and smart shoes.

Clothing tips for men

  • If you are in Russia on business men are expected to wear a dark, well tailored suit and tie, with smart shoes.

Regions of Russia

  • No trip would be complete without sight of Moscow's palatial metro (underground) dripping with chandeliers.
  • For travel on the Trans-Siberian railway you'll need to dress in layers. The train itself is very warm inside, but for the frequent half-hour stops you'll need to put on boots, warm coat, hat and gloves as it can be freezing outside. There are power outlets for charging your phone etc, but don't leave it unattended and you'll need an adaptor. Take soft drinks with you – it will be much cheaper than buying them on board, and snacks will be useful especially in the winter when there are fewer sellers on the platforms.

Other things to pack

  • You'll need a visa for Russia, and arrange it well in advance to avoid paying a premium at the last minute. Remember too that you must carry your passport with you at all times.
  • If you don't buy Russian Rubles before you go, take US dollars or Euros as they are far easier to change once in the country.
  • To use electrical gadgets you may need a travel adapter plug , and also a step down voltage converter if your devices are not designed for Russian voltage (220V) .
  • A lightweight day sack or shoulder bag will come in handy to carry your sightseeing essentials.
  • If you tend to buy bottled water , consider carrying a LifeStraw Filtration Water Bottle – fill up from any source and get clean, safe drinking water without wasting plastic bottles.
  • Avoid paying unexpected baggage fees – use an accurate luggage scale to ensure you keep within the weight allowance. Don't forget to leave room for souvenirs on the way home! The ‘ Mastryoshka ‘ nesting dolls are famous of course, but look out too for amber jewelry and beautiful lacquer boxes . If you want to stock up on vodka , remember you will need to pack it in checked-in luggage unless you buy at the airport duty-free.
  • And a final tip – note that it's considered bad luck to whistle indoors !

What should you not wear after 50?

You may have heard the many “rules” about what women over 50 can and can’t wear — “no mini skirts” is a common one. That said, the only person who should tell you what to wear at any age is you! We say, if rocking a mini skirt makes you feel cool and chic, go for it!

Ultimately, wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident is the way to go. Of course, there are certain dos and don’ts if a more youthful appearance is what you’re after (one hint: find clothing that fits your body, rather than trying to fit the clothes!). But the hard and fast rules? Forget ’em!

How to Dress With Style Over 50

As we get older, the shape of our body changes. Learning to embrace these shifts is key to finding clothes that look and feel fabulous. But this doesn’t mean you must sacrifice fun or style! Rather, it’s a reminder to look for pieces that flatter the body you have now. For example, the best bras for older women are designed to be comfortable and supportive, as well as fashionable and sexy!

The first step to dressing with style over 50 is to find your style. Ask around, and you’re bound to get varying answers, but there are six general style types you may fall into.

1. Preppy: Women with a preppy style gravitate towards clothing that’s classic, clean-cut, or nautical. Blazers, colored pants, and striped anything are staples you can’t bear to live without. Try shopping at J. Crew for staples!

2. Casual: Women with a casual style will gladly dress down rather than up. This doesn’t mean you’re wearing sweatpants everywhere you go! Comfort is key; sloppiness is not. If you have a casual style, your staple pieces might include a great pair of jeans, comfortable blouses, and the ever-essential fitted t-shirt. Shop for your favorites at Eddie Bauer!

3. Trendy: Women with a trendy style take looks that are trending (new and old) and make them their own. This means incorporating fun prints, new cuts, and cool accessories into your everyday wardrobe. NYDJ has pieces you’ll love!

4. Classic: Women with a classic style typically feel best in clothing that is elegant, tailored, and a bit more structured. For you, nothing beats a classic pair of slacks, a chic pencil skirt, or a slick sheath dress.  You can’t go wrong at M.M. LaFleur!

5. Bohemian: Women with a bohemian style embrace the artist within, opting for clothing that is light, flowy, and covered in bold colors and exotic prints. Classic staples for this style include crocheted tops, flowing maxi skirts, and loose pastel-colored tops. Fall in love with Anthropologie’s offerings!

The perfect outfit begins with the perfect undergarments. We like shopping for them on Journelle. Along with having a variety of bras and panties, they sell pajamas, swimwear, and other sophisticated slinky things.

Journelle Slip : Hanro Juliet Chemise

We know that sweats are super cozy, but it’s nice to dress a little fancy for bedtime every now and then. We’re opting for  this chemise  because of its length. It’s long — and modest — enough to wear if you have guests spending the weekend, but it skims the body just enough to feel slightly risque. More importantly, it’s breathable, thanks to the cotton material, so no worry of night sweats. We also love that the straps are adjustable.

Journelle Underwear : Lexi High Waist Bikini

You don’t need a special occasion to wear pretty underwear. In fact, it’s of our opinion that the right pair can totally make your outfit, impacting how a skirt or pair of pants look and more importantly, how you carry yourself. We love these  high waisted bikini briefs from Journelle . They provide more coverage than a thong, and the sexy lace middle makes us feel like a femme fatale. High waisted anything tends to slim the silhouette, creating that lovely hourglass shape. For that reason, we love wearing these on days we’re feeling a bit bloated or just  meh . They’re a total pick-me-up and confidence booster. The sheer tule of the briefs make them extra breathable, and the scalloped back adds lovely detail too!

The cut highlights the bums and thighs but isn’t as clingy as skinnies. Plus, the dark wash is perfect for fall, and goes with a variety of tops. What to Wear in Moscow in Winter

Written By: Julia K

Going to Moscow for the holidays? You’re in luck!

Why? Because there are no lines to the major tourist spots, there are fewer people in general, and you get the best prices. You can also get bragging rights that you have visited Moscow, Russia during its famous winter.

Winter in Russia lasts about five months. It gets snowy and cold going into negative Celsius at the end of October beginning November. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts till mid-May. Summers are hot and sometimes humid.

Always check the weather forecast before your trip. Once you’ve researched the weather, you can focus on creating your winter  travel capsule wardrobe , which should fit in your suitcase with the help of packing cubes to compress your clothing.

The first thing to know as you plan what to wear in Moscow in winter is how to pack for the weather.

Read these guides to get started, then read the specific details below for outfit ideas for various activities in Moscow:

  • How to Pack for Cold Weather
  • How to Stay Warm in Cold Weather (without the bulk)
  • Extreme Cold Weather Clothing Strategies
  • The Secret to Packing Light in Winter

Local women look their best anywhere and everywhere they go. Do pack nicer items and bring your makeup, too .  The following suggestions are based on a two week itinerary and contain three to four looks for the following activities:

  • museums, walking around,
  • going to a theater or ballet,
  • going out to a restaurant and club, or
  • getting invited to a random dinner at someone’s apartment, because it can happen!
Traveling to other parts of the country? Read this guide on what to wear in Russia !

Walking around the downtown area

Going to Moscow is a very unique experience. Walking around Red Square , New and Old Arbat, and visiting the ice skating rink in VDNH or Gorky Park will require warm attire.

Bring a long, warm winter coat that goes to your knees and has an attached hood. Choose a down jacket like these for optimal warmth.  Russian women love fur coats–not just as a fashion statement but due to their functionality in the cold.

Add warm winter accessories such as a big, warm blanket scarf that you can also use as a hood. Don’t forget a warm hat, thermal underwear , and mittens (not gloves).

Find out why thermal underwear for women is absolutely essential for cold weather travel!

As you plan what to wear in Moscow in winter be prepared for icy conditions; bring comfortable shoes with a thick sole that are appropriate for the snow and slush. Here are a few warm waterproof leather boots  suggested by our readers. Don’t forget to wear them with warm wool socks !

General tip: wearing layers will give you more freedom in the outside-inside situation. It gets very warm in the subway underground and inside some buildings, compared to the cold outdoors.

It’s important to note that during winter, the temperature varies from -2°C/28°F to -28°C/-18°F, which is exceptionally cold! The average is around -15°C / 5°F.

The one easy way to tell a tourist from a local is if they’re wearing heels and makeup. Generally speaking,  Moscow ladies take fashion, makeup, hair, and style very seriously. Bring your best attire and a splash of bling for a bit of glam.

A simple set of stud earrings can easily elevate an outfit from drab to chic. From outdoor adventures to city breaks, wear a set like  this for any trip!

Going to a museum

When planning what to wear In Moscow in winter (or anytime), keep in mind that sloppy attire is frowned upon. While looking your best when traveling is always a given, you might be refused service or be simply ignored in certain places. People may treat you differently depending on how you dress.

To a museum, wear dark denim, boots or booties, a  crossbody purse , jacket, and a shirt. Don’t forget to do your makeup and hair.

Many places may require you to check your coat so you should still have the appropriate layers to wear inside without feeling uncomfortably warm or cold. Checking your coat also allows you to stay warm when you’re outdoors but move freely indoors.

Learn how to layer clothes !

Places to visit are Diamond Fund , Red Square, the  Gum department store (pronounced like goom), and  Armoury Chamber , Tsentral’ny Dom Khudozhnika ,  Pushkin Museum and Tretyakov Gallery .

To a theater or ballet

Winter is the time to visit the world famous Bolshoi Theater. If you’re lucky enough to get tickets, then The Nutcracker is the one to see! I would advise getting there one hour early, order some champagne and sandwiches, and check out the crowd. There are plenty of other theaters that are not as famous but equally as good.

Floor length gowns aren’t necessary or practical, so bring a cocktail dress, shoes, evening clutch, jewelry, and do your makeup and hair. Tip: gorgeous jewelry can dress up a versatile LBD.

Do not wear denim to an opera or ballet!

If you are a guest in someone’s house

Russians do like to invite people into their homes. Dress modestly but with great attention to detail as a well dressed appearance is always appreciated. You can wear dark denim jeans, a sweater, jewelry, a nice bag, and boots.

Please remember to always take off your shoes when in someone’s house. It is considered rude to walk in street shoes at home. So pack your party socks or tights!

Moscow is a hub of amazing places to eat. One thing’s for sure–you’ll never be hungry. It caters to all budgets and styles. If you’re eating on a budget, then your daytime attire will suit you perfectly.

If you plan to dine at nice restaurants or visit clubs, wear a  cocktail dress, black tights, heels, and a clutch. Alternatively, wear leather pants with a flattering long sleeve blouse and jewelry.

General tip : If you plan on dining out, do make a reservation on Fridays and weekends. Otherwise there are plenty of places to choose from. Local favorites include Chaihana , Valenok , Ludi Kak Ludi and any cafe in Kitai Gorod.

Moscow is a non-stop hub of an always-moving machine. You should definitely go and enjoy yourself even during winter! A post on what to wear in Moscow during summer is coming up soon. Stay tuned!

Leslie

Traveling to Moscow end of March and first of April. Do women wear fur coats at this time of year? If yes, does the colorof the fur matter. Would it be lighter coats–snow leopard, silver saga fox or is a dark coat of fake cur acceptable? Or would a puffer coat be advisable with a beanie with fox fur pompom? Or would a wool full length cap be appropriate? Thanks

Hi Leslie, fur coats are a common fashion style, because they keep you toasty and warm, and look fantastic. It would depend on the temperatures, I would recommend that you check the weather forecast closer to your departure dates to ensue you have packed the most appropriate clothing for the weather. Our readers are the best at answering questions like yours, so to get you as much feedback as possible, I have gone ahead and scheduled your question to appear on TFG’s facebook page. Please keep you eyes out for our readers replies from Wednesday: https://www.facebook.com/TravelFashionGirl/ Hope this helps. Have an incredible trip!! 🙂

Ninotchka

I’m a girl who has only lived in warm weather. I have never experienced winter like in moscow. I have dumb questions about shoes and attire. If going to the ballet with heels, do you bring your boots to walk outside and inside?

Also, can you wear winter snow boots inside a university for a long time? I bought the sorels Joan of arctic and winter carnivals. Will they be too hot for inside? Do I need to bring extra pair of shoes?

Hi Ninotchka, thank you for your question. Let me look into this for you! 🙂

Julie

Would love to see a packing list for a river cruise to Russia in the spring!!

alex

Will keep it in mind for a future post!

Alanna Wargula

Thanks so much for this article! It is so hard to find advice for winter/snowy travel. It is still about layering! Leggings under my skinny jeans. I wear my winter boots (Sorel with fur trim) on the plane, and my marmot long “down defender” water resistant coat Squishes down in the packing cubes.

alex

Thanks for sharing Alanna! Glad you found this article helpful!

NCM is a new company to me, but they are using reliable and proven systems in their ebikes, so in someway, there is a nice familiarity to it. Today we are checking out their Moscow Plus, the big brother to the Moscow. The Moscow Plus features a nicer suspension fork, hydraulic brakes, more comfortable saddle, and an upgraded derailleur with more gear ranges. There is also a better battery coupled with a nicer display. Because they share the same frame however, you will find a lot of parallel information in this review if you read the write up on the regular Moscow. So the Moscow Plus here is an aluminum alloy frame hard-tail ebike that comes in 2 sizes. Each size also has tire options as well, so basically there is a 19” frame and a 20.5” frame and you can choose either 27.5” tires, or 29” tires. Today we have the 19” frame with the 27.5” Schwalbe Smart Sam knobby tires. Overall the bike weighs about 56.1lbs, (about 1.4lbs lighter than the regular Moscow) and costs $1,899 USD and $2,399 in CAD. As I mentioned before, it is a bit of a hard-tail setup, so you do get this nice SR SunTour XCM30 spring suspension fork. It has 80mm of travel, larger 30mm stanchions, and includes compression adjust, lockout, and preload adjust. Pretty standard hub spacing in the front, 100mm, and there is a 9mm quick release skewer in the front, but none in the back since this is a hub-drive. I am told that it has a maximum weight capacity of 275.5lbs, which is higher than standard. This might come in handy since the bike does have bottle cage bosses, rack bosses, and even fender provisions, so you could really load it up with accessories and it should handle it very well. I like that there is an adjustable length kickstand included, but it is center mounted. That means that you could have the pedals strike the kickstand when down and reversing, an annoying occurrence sometimes referred to as ‘pedal-lock’. The seat post here is a rigid post, which is normal, but since it is 30.9mm, you could swap that out with a nice suspension seat post to get some more cushion on top of that front suspension fork. Other features include ergonomic Velo grips, Wellgo aluminum alloy platform pedals, and one of my favorites, a slap guard that will protect the bike frame and paint from getting nicked by the chain and scratching the paint.

Driving the Moscow Plus is a 500 watt nominally rated planetary geared hub motor. I love that it is fairly compact given the high power output. Power wise, it can deliver up to 80nm of torque, which is quite high, but it cannot leverage gears the way that a mid-drive could. The upside is that the motor always feels zippy, it doesn’t matter which of the gear combinations you are pedaling with. And, the motor can deliver instant power with the minimalist throttle. Hub motors are a great fit for hardtail mount bikes because there is no rear suspension to interfere with. As you shift gears, there won’t be increased mashing or forces applied to the drivetrain because the motor operates completely independently of the chain and sprockets. Moving the bike is done here with either the throttle or the cadence based pedal assist. Of course, this motor will use more power if you’re constantly starting with the throttle, but that’s a worthwhile trade for someone like myself, who has a knee injury. I love being able to override assist with the throttle at any time. I also love that the throttle is easily disabled by removing a cable in case you need to make the bike legal for other trails or local laws. Mechanically, you have 3 rings in the front (48,28, and 28), but sadly, there is no chain cover to protect your clothing. In the rear you have an upgraded 11-32 tooth setup, so a bit better range than the standard Moscow. All in all, it is a Shimano Acera system, and you also get 8 speeds, trigger shifters, and a couple of display windows that tells you what gear you are in. There is a derailleur guard here too, something I love since it protects the derailleur during shipping, or if the bike takes a spill some day. Stopping the Moscow Plus is a set of hydraulic brakes. This was one of my grips on the regular Moscow, so I am happy to see they are offered here in a set of 180mm rotors for both the front and rear. Another upgrade here on the Plus is motor inhibitors in both brake lines. The regular Moscow only had it on one lever so I am glad it is here as it helps cut power to the motor when stopping.

Powering the NCM Moscow Plus is a high capacity Lithium-ion battery pack, offering 48v 16ah hours of capacity! I would say that’s a nice upgrade from the 48v 13ah of the regular Moscow…that means you can go further or ride at higher speeds. I love that they use a sealed external controller, this allows a lower cost for replacement batteries, and keeps the controller protected from harsh elements. Where as some companies are $800-$1000 range for a new battery, this keeps the NCM battery cost to around $500. Note that whenever you’re operating around or above 20 mph, air resistance is going to cause exponential energy draw and range will be decreased. This pack delivers electricity to the motor, but also the backlit display panel (hold the + icon to turn on backlighting), and even a full sized USB charging port on the top right side. You could use this port to maintain phones, GPS, or music devices as you ride or when parked at home or a camp site. My friends recently took a bikepacking trip using another electric bike, and this sort of charging-on-the-go feature would be really handy. If you’re excited to charge while riding, I recommend using a right-angle USB adapter like this , just to keep the wires tucked in and out of the way while you pedal. The battery pack weighs more than average at 9.2lbs, but the alloy casing is sturdy and most of the weight is kept low and center on the bike frame. I took the pack off when moving the bike to our review location, to reduce load on my car rack. If you live up stairs, removing the battery is a great idea, and for those who need to leave the bike in a cold, hot, or wet locations… being able to protect and charge the battery inside is a great thing. It’s best to maintain the pack above 20% and avoid extreme temperatures. It’s going to take a bit longer to fill this battery because of the higher capacity, and the charger is more basic, offering 2amp output vs. 3amp or 4amp. So expect 6 to 7 hours for a fill recharge if you go all the way down to zero. One quick warning about charging the battery while mounted to the bike, be careful with the left crank arm because it passes directly in front of the plug port on the left and could bend or snag the charging plug and cable.

The display on the Moscow Plus is upgraded, nice and large and easy to read. To begin, just hold the power button on the little control pad near the left grip. It activates the display and you get several readouts including assist level, current speed, and battery capacity. Pressing power one time will activate backlighting on the LCD display and holding the down arrow constantly will activate walk mode (which can be handy if you need to to ascend a ramp, make your way through a walk-only space, or even climb stairs). The display can show different menus if you press the set button, a nice feature to dive in a little more. I like the size and position of the display, you can even angle it forward and back to reduce reflection glare, but it is not removable. For those who plan on commuting, it might be worth strapping your helmet over the display to keep people from noticing or scratching it, and also protecting it from the sun, while parked at racks. Overall, I would still call this display panel and accompanying button pad above average, I love that it can be angled to reduce glare and feel that it looks beautiful and is well sealed against water… but to clean the bike it is recommended to use a damp cloth vs. spraying it. Don’t ever submerge the bike components or spray them hard. Also, consider storing the battery pack away from extreme heat and cold to protect the cells. The only other thing I would mention is that the display is large and center mounted, taking up a lot of valuable surface area on an already crowded handlebar, so it may be difficult to add accessories.

In conclusion, the Moscow Plus was a lot of fun, and as mentioned earlier, is using a lot of nice proven technology that has kept many happy. This is a value priced ebike, so there will be some tradeoffs to consider, so I should make mention of those now… For one, the kickstand is center mounted, so if the kickstand is down and you are reversing the bike, you will encounter pedal lock. I noticed that there is no chain ring cover or guard, so be careful when pedaling with clothing like pants or a dress. The charger is just 2amps, this means charging happens slowly, so matched with that high capacity battery, it could take quite some time. Tradeoffs aside, it is a very well put together bike with a lot of what we have come to know and love about ebikes, and at a price of just $1,899 in the US, will appeal to many customers. I want to thank NCM for the chance to check out the Moscow, and I look forward to reviewing more bikes from this new company.

As always, I welcome questions and feedback in the comment section below. Whether you own a previous version of the bike, have taken a test ride, or are brand new to the space, my goal is to provide an objective and honest resource. You can also join the Other Brands ebike forums and share your own photos, videos, and review updates to help others! Have fun out there, and ride safe :)

  • The Moscow blends off-road geometry, suspension, and tires with urban utility because you can add fenders and a rear rack, there are also bottle cage bosses on the top as well
  • There are 24 gear combinations to explore here, and that empowers you to climb easier or hit and maintain the top assisted speed, I really appreciate the slap guard on the right chain stay and the steel derailleur guard at the rear which also protects the motor power cable (especially when the bike is being shipped)
  • The 500 watt Das-Kit motor is powerful and zippy but completely independent from the the pedal drivetrain, it’s a good choice for a bike with so many gears vs. a mid-motor, it also allows for instant throttle power regardless of which gear you’re in
  • One of the advantages of having a front derailleur is that it keeps the chain from bouncing off track, it does usually add more weight and maintenance to the bike however, and if you’re using either of the two smaller chainrings the larger 48 tooth one can snag your pant leg because there is no bash guard plate
  • Good weight distribution, the battery is positioned low and center on the frame, it seems well protected and blends in pretty well with the black accents on the fork, handlebar, seat, and chainrings
  • Great tires for cross country and street riding, the 27.5″ x 2.25″ size is lightweight and efficient, they steer quickly and Schwalbe products tend to be higher quality, there is also a 29” option as well
  • At $1,899 USD and $2,399 in CAD, it is competitively priced and will serve many customers well since it has a throttle, high capacity battery, and suspension
  • I’m glad that they chose a trigger throttle vs. twist because it makes the grips more secure and reduces accidental activation, the 12-magnet cadence sensor is also more responsive than 8 or 5 on many other products
  • The suspension fork offers compression lockout and preload adjust, this allows it to firm up for smooth riding conditions like city streets, reducing bob and energy loss as you pedal
  • You get a flick bell, locking ergonomic grips, and a pair of large sturdy platform pedals that should work well in all sorts of conditions and weather, sometimes these parts are cheaper on value priced ebikes
  • I love the high capacity 14v 16ah battery, it even has a USB port on the side to take advantage of it and use it as a power bank, perfect for traveling
  • Between the knobby tires and 80mm suspension fork, this bike feels pretty comfortable, but I might recommend a suspension seat post to make things even more cushy for your ride
  • The 180mm rotor hydraulic disc brakes are a great upgrade here, they are complimented well by a nicer derailleur, better gearing range, and more gearing options here on the Plus vs the regular Moscow
  • The Plus is actually lighter by 1.4lbs despite its larger battery, better fork, upgraded gel saddle, and nicer display
  • Minor gripe here, but I actually prefer the integrated finger bell on the regular Moscow as opposed to this more generic bell on the Moscow Plus, this was likely chosen to save space on the handle bar since it is using a larger display
  • Some of the wires on this ebike are a bit more exposed along the base of the top tube, it looks a bit cleaner and reduces snags when they are completely internal
  • This e-bike weighs more than your average trail bike at 56.1lbs because it has a higher capacity battery and a more basic spring suspension fork vs. air, I’d definitely take the battery off when lifting and transporting it
  • No chain cover or guard means you need to be careful with your pants or dress, you don’t want it getting snagged and torn up in the chain ring system
  • Even though this is technically a mountain bike, it’s nice to see a kickstand for those urban rides, I do wish that the stand was positioned a bit further back however, to avoid pedal lock with the left crank arm
  • Another minor grips, but more and more people are commuting with hard tail mountain bikes, I like that this has provisions to add commuting options and already comes with a kickstand, but it should be noted it does not come with any lights in the front or rear
  • With a standard 2amp battery charger, it could take a while to completely fill the high-capacity battery (6 or 7 hours), there are other ebikes with 3 or even 4amp chargers but they tend to weigh more
  • The display panel isn’t removable and doesn’t swivel easily, as a result, it could get scratched more easily at racks and will take sun and rain wear over time

First off, let me say that I really enjoy your thorough reviews. The Moscow Plus is the third e-bike in our family, along with a Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 and Aventon Pace 500 . I purchased this from Amego; great value when purchasing from the US due to no tax and free shipping! I am able to use the code to get to the settings, but cannot figure out how to adjust the top speed from 20 mph to 25. All that I can access is wheel size and battery voltage. Can you assist please?

Hi Mark, I called Amego EV today asking for tips on how to update the speed. It sounds like you can only adjust the speed with the larger center-mount plus display. In that case, you’d hold the + and – key to get into settings and use the code 8018 which would allow you to adjust the speed. Perhaps someone in the ebike forums will be able to help further but this is what I go. Sounds like you’ve got a fun fleet of ebikes there and I hope you do find a solution :)

This might be a bit late, however you adjust the wheel size down and the bike will then up the speed based on that. I.E. adjust a 27.5inch down to 20.00inch and you add 30% speed as the computer reads a smaller tyre… make sense? The only down side is this throws off the odometre reading so you’ll need to factor in the 30% for closer accuracy.

hey Mark, how is the Moscow plus treating you thus far ? Is it a better purchase compared to the Aventon 500?

John - Sydney, Aus

Just bought one of these awesome machines! I haven’t been able to take it on a serious ride yet, but on a quick test ride one thing that surprised me was how easy it was to foul the front wheel with toes when turning – is that a regular thing?

Hey John! Yeah, I’ve experienced “toe strikes” when riding bikes like this, especially with larger shoes. They’ve gone with the “one size fits all” here but are using fairly large 27.5″ wheels with trail tires, so the clearance between the pedals and the front tire isn’t as much as it might be on a larger frame. This being a cross country frame style, with less rake on the fork, the wheel is fairly close to the frame and it can lead to the situation you’re describing. Yes, it is a regular thing with certain frame sizes and wheel/tire combinations. You might be able to reduce it by pedaling with the pad of your foot vs. the middle or heel.

John Liversage

Hi again, I’ve been riding the bike a couple of months now and enjoying great battery life and plenty of power (and thankfully the toe strike thing is no real problem). However, there’s is a significant defect in the power system – if you are stationery and adjust the pedals by turning them back even a small amount, occasionally (say 1 in 10 times) the power comes on, possibly at full power. As you can imagine, that’s extremely dangerous – it has once shot my bike onto the road while waiting at lights to cross a busy road, and once into the side of my car while parking the bike in my garage. I’ve reported the issue to the bike shop I bought the bike from (Leon Cycles here in Melbourne, Australia), and although initially they were responsive (even confirming it is a known fault), they have stopped responding, despite my best efforts. I did send a video I’d taken that graphically shows the issue. Even apart from that fault, the power is also very slow to come on when going from downhill (above the speed where power is provided – here in Australia that’s 25KPH) to a steep uphill, taking upwards of 5 seconds to respond (I tested a different e-bike and response was almost instantaneous). On your review ride it was largely flat, so I’m thinking you would not have picked that up. Is that a common issue with other ebikes? Any suggestions?

A few rectifications:

  • The bike uses a 8 speed 11-32 freewheel, not a cassette. It’s hard (if impossible) to find in the north american market. Here’s a link I found on aliexpress for spare parts: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33056759327.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3e774c4df5Shfp
  • The display will let you go from pedal assist 6 up to 0, but not from 0 down to 6, if that makes sense. Doesn’t go around in both directions, maybe that’s something they changed. (I bought 2 moscow pluses and they’re both this way.)
  • You can’t change the maximum speed, but what you can do is input a smaller wheel diameter. They speedometer won’t show the correct speed anymore, and the bike will assist you up to 32km/h + about 30%. THIS WON’T MAKE IT A SPEED PEDELEC unless you pedal EXTRA HARD on the top gear ratio (48×11). I find myself going barely over 32 on flat ground, maybe up to 35-36 helping with my legs.

Hope this will be helpful. This bike is amazing btw, and if you’re commuting, going faster than that would absolutely drain your battery anyway. For exemple, a bike going 50km/h will need to draw 1500W of power and you run continuously for only 40 minutes with a 1000Wh battery. This has been my experience with the Rize Rx, which I decided to resell because of that.

Hi Mat, thanks for the updates! Great point about the freewheel. I didn’t think there were any 11 tooth freewheels and only recently learned more about the distinction between a cassette and freewheel. I really appreciate you sourcing that part! Your second point about not being able to “around” makes sense. Perhaps they did change something from 2018/2019 when I covered the bike. The wheel size hack is something I’ve heard about before, so thanks for explaining that more thoroughly and posting your results for top achievable speed. I’m hoping to cover more RIZE ebikes in the future, so glad to get your insight about why you switched to NCM here. Great comment! Thanks again :)

Mathis Bourcier-Laurin

Concerning the link I put in my comment, these appear to be cassettes after all… I might have got this wrong. I’m sending an email to NCM to know more. There doesn’t seam to be any 11-32 freewheels accessible on the market.

Hi! Nice review! I am considering the NCM Moscow Plus or Eahora AM100. Can you please make review Eahora AM100 or/and compere Moscow Plus with Eahora AM100! Will be very appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Steve! I’m more familiar with NCM, but I will keep an eye out for the Eahora products and possibly do another review this year. That said, it could be many weeks or months from now. I recommend asking for feedback in the EBR forums in the NCM section here . I hope this helps you compare the two… and the list of specs here on the Moscow Plus review, you can compare them with the specs for the Eahora AM100 based on their website :)

Hi, in your video review the topic came up about using the NCM Moscow in snow conditions with regards to how it would hold up in salted roads and in wet conditions.

How do these bikes do in rain and puddles? I can see where you might want to avoid those but sometimes you get caught out on a ride where you have to ride through some conditions like that.

Hi John, my experience riding in rain has been that most ebike products, even the cheaper ones, are highly water resistant… they should hold up alright in rain, just don’t submerge. One time, I had ridden in a heavy rainstorm in Austin, TX (big heavy drops) and then parked my bike outside in the sun. The LCD fogged up inside because the water somehow got inside due to humidity or splashes or something. That fog stayed for a long time and was annoying. I’ve considered wrapping displays with plastic during extra rainy days. I also never flip an ebike upside-down to wash them (with a hose gently) because the cables and holes and electronics are all designed to drain downwards and if you flip them, water can pile up inside instead of draining. I learned that washing with a hose, some car soap, a rag and chamois is alright, even using car wax on bicycle paint seems to work well and protect any steel parts from rusting as quickly. I usually go for synthetic spray wax that works on metal and plastic, and I just coat everything. Final tip, I also use biodegradable spray cleaner for bicycles more often than car cleaner products before the wax, and I regularly lube my chain but dry it off after vs. leaving it greasy. This reduces the chance of dust and debris sticking to the chain and wearing down your sprockets. Sorry that these tips aren’t formatted perfectly, I’m in a hurry ;)

Thank you for your reply in answer to my questions. That helps me a lot.

Question for you on the Moscow plus mountain bike. The specs for that bike from Lyon cycle says it has 55 NM and I was reading your review and in it you say it has a NM. Can you tell me the difference between the measurements?

Hi Kipper, I hope I’m understanding your question correctly. It sounds like you want to know what NM stands for? This is an abbreviation for Newton Meters of torque. It’s a measure of how strong a motor can be, how much force it can create (which is good for starting and climbing). I hope this helps! Many of the stats that I provide here for motor power (watts and newton meters) are provided by companies. There are different ways to measure these things and I suspect that some companies are exaggerating the power of their products. That’s why I try to leave comments open and also show how the bike rides on camera, so people can make their own judgements :)

What I think Kipper was saying is that you list the torque at 80nm… All other specs I’ve seen list it at 55nm

Had the bike for about 6 weeks now and have 600k on the odometer. Overall a solid bike with great range and speed. Have encountered the following problems. The battery gets loose after a while and starts to knock. This can be remedied with some strips of duct tape to act as spacers. I broke a spoke on the rear wheel. When I tried my local bike shop, they said it was an unusual size and ended up having to order one online from Germany. The screws holding the rear brake disc fell out. The seller has promised to send me a new set at no-charge but it’s odd that they all fell out without much warning. No big issues so far, and I am still pleased with the purchase.

Hey, thanks for chiming in with these notes about the Moscow Plus. I’m glad that overall, you’re still happy with it. It’s also reassuring to hear that NCM has provided some support and your local bike shop went to such great lengths to help you get a new spoke! Good on them, and thank you for taking the time to share :)

Hi there, I really enjoyed your review. I have a NCM Moscow 27.5″ Plus here in the UK. Leon cycles tell me they no longer provide thumb throttles for the Eurorean market so I guess my questions are can you tell me the details of the throttle so I can source one which is compatible and will I be able to fit it on to my model? Does the cable from the throttle go into the back of the display (there are no spare holes) or does it go directly into the control box somehow. Hope these questions aren’t too technical and that you can help in a small way.

I suppose the alternative would be to buy a bike from North America, but suppliers there seem reluctant to ship to the UK – unless you know of one who does!!?? :) Thanks for your time. John H.

Hi John! Unfortunately, I do not know where to source the part, and am not 100% sure that I’d know the latest display/throttle interface. Perhaps you could post the same question in the NCM Ebike Forums to see if any recent buyers could help. This throttle is fairly unique and highly sought after by some other companies I’ve spoken with, because it’s narrow – allowing the shifter and brakes to not get pushed too far in towards the stem. I think some other companies use it too, like Magnum on their Mi6 model . I hope this helps point you in the right direction!

Hi, sorry, but I didn’t catch your name in the video review, but found it to be one of the best reviews information wise. How tall are you so I can gauge how the 29 will fit? You appeared to be in a comfortable upright position. Did you have enough straddle room at a stop? What’s your inseam if you don’t mind saying?

I prefer a larger bike so I don’t have to lean over so much. I’m 5’9″ and currently ride a large Trek Verve+ with 29 inch wheels which works well.

Thanks, Gary

Hi Gary! Sorry for the delayed reply here. I’m 5’9″ as well, and my inseam is about 32 inches. The bike felt good to me and I did have room to straddle the top tube when stopping. I tend to raise the seat way up to get full leg extension, and this bike had enough space for me to achieve that and have comfortable reach. We are lucky because many bikes fit people 5’5″ to 6’1″ or so and we’re right in the middle there :D

Hi, I just got my Moscow Plus 29″.

I’m 6’2″ 245lbs with 32″ inseam and when I stand straight I’m just touching the cross bar, which I find uncomfortable, and zero chance over ever installing water bottle. I wish I had read more reviews before purchasing, as on site said that the 29″ good for 5’9″ to 6’4″ and 27.5 was 5’5″ to 6’1″. I have read now found a few reviews that say the 29″ is too big even for someone my height

I would suggest that 33″ inseam or less go for the 27.5″ Thanks

Saiveer Aushatty

Hello I recently brought the Moscow plus e-bike but I am not satisfied with the battery because it is getting discharged quickly and when I take the bike from store the bms was 53. Something when it is fully charged. but now when I am charging in the home it is showing 51. Something and also charging of the battery is also discharging quickly can I know what is the reason??

Hi Saiveer, perhaps it is colder weather? That could explain why the battery isn’t getting the same range but might not explain the voltage drop. Over time, it is my understanding that any lithium-ion battery will begin to lose capacity (especially if the battery is heating up a lot). Maybe NCM is using cheaper cells or your pack was older? I cannot say for sure, but maybe you could buy a replacement battery someday if it continues to drop in capacity.

Hi, I love the review and currently considering a NCM. Can you comment on the difference between a Moscow and Moscow Plus? Why would you consider the upgrade?

Hi Leanne! It has been too long since performing this particular review to know what the current differences are. Usually, it has to do with upgraded brakes, maybe a nicer derailleur, or a higher capacity battery pack. Perhaps you could ask for some input on the NCM ebike forums to see if anyone there has some insights :)

Hi! I’m considering the Moscow Plus. I watched the review, it was awesome! Thanks. It made me want to by it right away, but over in Montreal is not really good timing with the snow, especially if ebikes don’t like salt (quoting yours truly :) )You mentioned the 29 inch is more comfortable than the 27; according to my height 5,6’’ I should get the 27″. Do you think I should get the 29 and I will be able to adjust it to my body dimensions? Also, how fast does the battery recharge?

Thank you! Céline

Hi Céline! Yeah, this is a good ebike. It’s made to be affordable, but still pretty capable, and it’s nice that they offer two wheel sizes. Yes, I agree that the 27″ wheel is a better fit for you at 5’6″ tall. The larger 29″ wheel diameter helps to smooth out bumps, but raises the frame, adds weight, and just isn’t a great fit unless you’re a taller person. I believe that the 27″ will still be very comfortable for you. As for charging, I’d estimate that a full charge could take 5.5 hours. Note that the first half fill goes much faster than the second half, because the charger slows down in order to help the battery balance (which is easier on the cells, helping them to last longer and be in good condition). I hope this helps!!

Thank you for your reply it helps me and reaffirms my choice for this ebike! Can’t wait to order and try it out!

I just got a Moscow and its terrible in so many aspects! The controller is awful and the wires running all over the frame is a pain! you cannot easily carry the damn thing and finding a rear rack for it is another nightmare! The common racks that attach to seat post and rear part of the frame wouldn’t work and the compatible ones are unavailable and quite pricy! the bike come with absolute no adjustment and the L and H on the derailleur was so off that you couldn’t shift it to Gear 1 or 7 and the rest was entirely unindexed! The whole things is a mess and Leon Cycle did not even post my review! This is why they have so few reviews for each product!

Hi Hamed, that really sucks. This is why I created EBR and the associated forums, to let people speak more freely (as long as they are constructive and honest). It sounds like you’re frustrated with the bike and it came damaged or just way out of tune. I’m sorry man, yes, the wires on this ebike are also more exposed vs. internally routed. I hope you got a good deal on it, I think with so many brands being sold out recently, people are left with fewer options and the direct online bikes can be risky and get damaged in shipping. NCM has been around longer, and I feel like the founder is a hard working person (who supplied Magnum and Amego) but I haven’t been in touch or reviewed their products for a while now. Hope you can get it running right and enjoy some rides this summer… or sell it and get another ebike.

Hi Court, I really appreciate both the website and youtube videos! They are really helpful! I fixed almost everything but it took me > 3 hours and was a total pain! I got it for < 1500 CAD so it wasn't horrible but anyway I wish I would have been waitng till June/July to get either a Radpower or Rize which both are looking pretty good but are in the back order! Deciding to bike again after twenty something years you'de assume how unfamiliar everything looks like and that is why I want other folks like me know what to expect! Cheers

I purchased a Moscow Plus one month ago and it has not run with any assistance at consistantlly motor keeps cutting and no speedo reading have checked all connections and they are tight we have at least 8 ebikes in our group now . and many different brands this only one doing this. other experienced riders have ridden my bike and the same thing has happened to them no speedo reading no power motor turn on handle bar switch it runs with assistance for about 30 seconds and cuts out again i am now wishing i did not purchase this bike. you can ring them for help and it takes so long for them to get back to you has any one else had this problem with a moscow plus bike

Hi Dennis, that sounds frustrating. Thanks for sharing with us, I hope you are able to find some solutions or maybe sell the Moscow Plus and try another ebike?

Got a Moscow Plus and I’m pretty happy with it. The previous owners stating their issues I believe they may have a dud, Mine works well, shifts very smoothly (for the drivetrain in this price range), the pedal assist works well Talking bang for the buck I believe there is nothing that comes close. 16mA batt 500W motor 80Nm torque, hydraulic brakes, decent tires I mean this bike checks all the boxes for a rear hub low cost bikes. Will see down the road for longevity and issues but as it is I would totally recommend this for someone’s first ebike without shelling out big $$ for a mid drive fancier big name bike. As the review already stated the kickstand position is awkward to say the least and the charger could be better, but these are pretty much my only complaints after owning it for approx 1 month,

Thanks for the update, Adrian! Glad to hear that you’re satisfied with the product :)

I bought my Moscow Plus a week ago from a local bike shop in lower mainland of BC. Fully charged the battery (53.7 V reading) and took it out for a total of three rides. Got a total of 135 kms before the last battery gauge bar started to flash. was using PAS 1-2 mainly. The only problem encountered so far is when the front derailleur is in the small sprocket and the rear is also in the small sprocket, the chain would tend to skip. Otherwise a good bike.

Hi Rob! Very fair assessment, thanks for sharing what has worked and what issues you’ve noticed. I covered this model a long time ago, so perhaps things are outdated a bit. Does your bike mostly fit the description and review I made here? It sounds like you’re pretty happy with it overall, I think they are priced well.

Hi, love the reviews and because yours are far most the best, I purchased the NCM Power Plus and am happy with the bike. Only problems I have had since my purchase I found that the fat tires were rather slippery during the winter riding on city roads and I started to get constant rear flat tires, I had about 3 flats all within 2 months after purchase, I took it into the shop and the bike mechanic could not find anything wrong, so I made the decision to change tires from the original Schwalbe 57-662 to 55-662 and 1,766 km later still no flat tires and mystery was never solved.

The other issue I have that the Leon website key features state – reach up to 150 km (depending on terrain conditions & power level settings) OK well I thought that this seems a little of an over statement, so was hoping for at least 100km range on a full battery but I don’t even get close so I would love to know how this 150km range is achieved – I am 5’11” and weigh 91kg. I usually bike on good flat city roads and the occasional flat fine gravel cycle path using PAS #3 and 18th gear traveling about 23-25 km/h (21 m/hr) and I am lucky to get 65km (40 miles) range before the flashing cell appears on the screen, so if anyone or yourself can tell me what I am doing wrong and how I can achieve more km range without have to weigh in at 60kg I would be very grateful, as at this stage I feel that the 150km statement made by Leon Cycles is a little misleading. Other changers I have made on my bike are just some short plastic guards and a more comfortable seat.

Cheers Glenn

Hi Glenn! I’m glad to hear that your new tires are working better. Regarding the range estimates from NCM, most companies I speak with use a 72kg (160lb) rider on flat pavement with no wind using both the low assist and high assist to estimate a range. Since you are riding with PAS #3 I would expect your actual range to fall somewhere between their estimate. The higher the assist, the lower the tire pressure, the less smooth the terrain, and the more throttle is used will all reduce your range. Another way range is sometimes calculated is to divide the watt hours of the battery pack by 20 so that would be 768 / 20 = 38.4 minimum range. It sounds like you are getting close to that number (you said 40 miles). Over time, battery cells may not provide the same high capacity as they are power cycled, and the parts of the bike could become dirty and less smooth. A tuneup could help increase range. This ebike also uses a cadence sensor, which doesn’t require much pedal input from the rider, so the motor usually works harder than a torque sensor. These are all of my thoughts, I hope they help you :)

bikes crap…. my throttle has already broken the display screen has frozen and won’t let me change pedal assistance settings….. complete angler Gosnells is where i brought it from they scammed me and put 1.95 inch tubes when its supposed to have 3 inch wide tubes…. disappointing
