As part of an  RV rental in Calgary , or elsewhere in Canada, many people wonder if they should have an international driving license or a special license to drive an RV.

We won't let the mystery hang too long: the short answer is no .

In fact, you just need to have a valid regular driver's license from your home country to ren an RV for your Canada tours.

Here are the two conditions to meet for your license to be accepted here:

1- Your license must use the Latin alphabet.

2- Primary and additional drivers must have obtained their official driving license at least 12 months prior to the rental.

In all cases, rental companies only accept to rent vehicles to people aged 21 and over.

Before renting an RV in Canada, make sure that the primary driver and additional driver(s) are of age to rent a vehicle.

The minimum age varies from one renter to another, anywhere between 21 and 25 years old.

When should I book my RV?

Every year, many travelers find themselves unable to rent an RV in Canada, due to lack of availability.

Indeed, this form of travel is very popular and unfortunately, the demand is higher than the offer , especially during high season.

If you want to hire a vehicle during the months of July and August , book early (at least six months in advance), since it is our high season. Sometimes reservations open up to 1 year in advance and this can greatly affect the price of your trip.

Finally, it is also better to book your RV before buying your plane tickets to ensure you won't have any bad surprise, especially if you necessitate a one-way and / or high season rental.

What is the best time for Canada tours by RV?

With no great surprise, the summer season is the best time to plan an RV road trip in Canada.

Although the rental of RVs with us is possible between May 1st and October 31st, we do recommend mid-May to mid-October more.

High season is undoubtedly between early July and mid-August.

The RVs are then in great demand. This means that the availability is very limited. If you choose to travel during high season, plan to reserve your vehicle at least six months in advance to ensure availability.

The months of June and September are very interesting to plan your Canada tours in RV because the temperature is pleasant, there are a lot less tourists and the rental prices are very competitive.

The beginning of October offers an astonishing charm in Eastern Canada, with its Indian summer phenomenon. The trees are then adorned with their multicolored leaves, offering quite a spectacle! It is definitely a good time to consider if you're interested in  Eastern Canada tours . 

Can I cancel my booking free of charge?

Here are the penalties you should expect if you cancel your RV rental following a reservation:

• FREE cancellation up to 72 hours after booking
• Between 72 hours after booking and 61 days or more before departure: 20% of the price
• Between 60 and 46 days before departure : 25% of the price
• Between 45 and 15 days before departure: 50% of the price
• Less than 15 days before departure: 100% of the price

One-way rental fees are due in full, if applicable, 72 hours after your reservation is made.

However, it is possible to subscribe to a cancellation protection in order to avoid all these costs in the case of an unforeseen event. This cancellation protection is exclusively offered on our RV rental comparison tool and is part of the advantages of renting your RV through a canadian travel agency .

Do I have to rent a child car seat?

In Canada, child car seats must meet the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS).

If your seat does meet these standards, take it with you! Most airlines will let your board with it free of charge and your child will be more comfortable, just like at home.

Otherwise, you will have to think about renting a child seat for your Canada tours. This option is payable in advance or on site, depending on the rental company.

How Far are the Depots from the Airport?

Cruise Canada is about 25 minutes from the airport and Canadream is 45 minutes. If you are arriving on an international flight you are required to stay in a hotel on the first night. There are maps and addresses of each of the depots contained in our booking engine. You won't have to wait for a voucher to find out where you are collecting your rental from.

How Does the Booking Process Work?

Choose your dates and pick up and drop off location. You will have to add your time of collection and return. There are specific times that you can pick up your rental and return it. If you need more flexible times, this can be pre-arranged.

Enter how many passengers will be travelling and select "Search". Our booking engine is structured to offer you the cheapest rental first. This may not be the smallest vehicle available but the daily rate is the cheapest. This includes discounts that apply to the dates you have selected. No need to hunt around for special offers as we automatically include them as you search.

Îles-de-Boucherville National Park

Treat yourselves to the all-year-round beauty of Îles-de-Boucherville National Park a few kilometres from Montreal. Cycle, ski or canoe for those looking to let off a bit of steam, but a simple stroll in this beautiful region is just as good.

Molson campsite accepts all types of RV’s up to 12 meters and has water and electricity connections. There is a washroom about 500 metres away, with an onsite picnic table and fireplace. Pets are allowed.

Mont Tremblant National Park

The 100 km or so scenic drive from Montreal to Mont Tremblant National Park is a good way for the Canadian motorhome renter to cut their teeth in the region. Once there, you’ve lakes and peaks to enjoy in Quebec’s first National Park at almost 125 years old.

There are a number of camping sites in Mont Tremblant National Park, mostly accepting tents and trailer tents. But others accept camping vans, small RV rentals up to large RV’s depending on the campground. Powered sites with electricity and water are available.

Canada’s must-see Capital City of Ottawa has more to do than we’ve space for here. On the way there, take advantage of the old Highway 148 (not the more obvious Highway 50) and enjoy a memorable scenic drive that takes in the Fairmont Château Montebello and the Papineau manor historic monument.

However some highlights include a visit to Parliament Hill, home to the Canadian Parliament, take a stroll through Byward Market, one of Canada’s oldest markets; and learn about Canada’s history in one of the many museums in Ottawa, including the Canadian War Museum, Canadian Museum of History, National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Natural History.

Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park

All-year-round, outdoor fun at Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park , like backcountry skiing and brisk hikes in the winter or wildlife watching and cycling in the summer, for example. One of the best things about hiring a motorhome is that you can work around any activity that suits you or the crew.

There are a couple of campgrounds that accept RV rental in Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park, which come complete with powered electric sites with water hook-ups. Washroom facilities, picnic table and bBQ facilities are available. Depending on the campground, maximum RV lengths are limited to up to 9 meters, or a maximum of 12 meters with the larger campsites.

Mount Royal

The English translation of ‘Montreal’ is, literally ‘ Mount Royal ’ named after the large hill (or ‘the mountain’ as it’s known to locals) that occupies the city.

Mount Royal is an all-year-round hive of activities and fun, with walking and cycling paths in summer; with snow tubing, skiing and snowshoeing in winter but you’ll have to leave your motorhome rental or campervan hire behind as it’s only accessible by Olmstead Path.

Old Montreal

Head into the historic, 17th-century district of the old quarter and there isn’t much need to follow the narrow, cobbled streets of Old Montreal , loaded with bistros and bars galore, any other way but by foot -the poor old motorhome rental isn’t getting much of a look-in in Montreal!

Sucrerie de la Montagne
