Bermuda has four seasons:

May to October are the warmest months. The average high temperature in July and August is 30°C (86°F).

The coldest part of the year runs from January to March ; seeing average highs and lows of 21°C (70°F) and 16°C (61°F) respectively. Although fine for golf and other land-based activities, swimmers may find Bermuda’s water temperature a little cool at this time.

Humidity is high all year round leading to mildew problems on clothing for residents (short-term visitors are unlikely to be affected). Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year with no distinct rainy season. It tends to rain in short heavy downpours rather than continual English-type drizzle, meaning that it’s extremely unlikely that your entire holiday or even a whole day is spoilt by rain.

Does this area receive warm or cold winds?

I live in Massachusetts and I was thinking of renting a place in Bermuda for February and March but I’m wondering about the weather. I understand it can be in the high 60s low 70s which is fine for me. I’m not looking to jump in the ocean. Just want to get out of the cold of Massachusetts. I haven’t been back to Bermuda in a long time. And is it exceptionally windy or rainy or very humid?

No matter what the atmospheric conditions are – hey – you are in a sub-tropical paradise! Don’t know whether to go here or there? Go everywhere – and MUST CHECK THE BERMUDA AQUARIUM MUSEUM AND ZOO (BAMZ) – AWESOME!

It’s a small island but has some interesting places to visit including the above mentioned as well as the caves. It’s nice to have things to do when the late winter winds blow and you have to get off the beautiful golf courses. You are right, it will be warmer than the northeast US and Canada.

I live in Bermuda and I tell you, always carry a little umbrella in your bag because the weather can go from clear and sunny to rainy and grey in the space of 5 minutes. I’m not kidding! Otherwise it’s gorgeous and that only weather thing happens once a week or so. Rain doesn’t last too long though, thankfully!

I would love to return to live in Bermuda anytime. I am Spanish and born in Dominican Republic, but lived in Bermuda for the 1st year of my life. Bermuda is indeed paradise.

That is if your are traveling or working there during the winter months. If your from a cold climate however, the cold days shouldn’t bother you much and it rains much less then which is a plus.

I lived in Bermuda for a year from the U.S. Chilly is an understatement. It gets down right cold in February. On certain days from late January till March I remember freezing and I’m from New York. Not in comparison to the cold in the U.S. But the temperature drop is a shock when being used to such warm weather throughout the year there. I never needed the amount of clothing needing during the winters in the U.S. But gather up a few sweaters, some socks and a leather or suede jacket just in case. Lol.

Not cold – just DAMP you can feel deep – and that is not all the time at all – because no matter what the temperature is if you are out in the sun shine you can really FEEL THE BURN!

GREAT PLACE FOR A VACATION. The weather is beautiful and the scenery is too die for.

The rain can be very heavy. It can come from nowhere. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve left home wearing my suit to go to work and it’s been sunny so I’ve not taken an umbrella, and then arrived at the office completely soaked. One day I’ll learn I suppose.

During the winter it can get a bit chilly if you are riding a moped, so don’t forget a coat.

Bermuda Cruise Port: Tips, Excursions and Weather

Bermuda cruise ports attract two kinds of visitors: People who cruise there as their only stop and those ships that stop there on their way to the Caribbean.

It’s a popular port of call for ships that embark from ports on the east coast of the United States. Major embarkation ports include New York, Boston, Baltimore and Cape Liberty, NJ. Most of the cruises last either five or seven nights.

This small British territory consists of small islands connected by bridges and causeways. From end to end, the country measures only 22 miles long. Tourists can travel the entire length in about one hour. Traffic is slow.

Visitors will enjoy bright blue skies, pink sand beaches, golf courses, museums and historic sites. It also has plenty of high-end boutiques and dining options.

Bermuda is not a vacation for anyone on a tight budget. Be prepared to spend some cash when going ashore. Dining and shops are pretty pricey.

These islands are more conservative than the others in the Caribbean. Restaurants have dress codes, and visitors can stroll around in bathing suits only on the beaches.

Parents will be happy to know that Bermuda is a great destination for families with many kid-friendly activities. There are many city attractions, and the beaches are clean and safe.

Unlike some Caribbean destinations, there is no need to worry about a language barrier for American, Canadian and British citizens because English is spoken everywhere.

Quick Travel Tips

Destinations / ports of call.

Ports of Call for Bermuda cruises will depend on the itinerary chosen. The most common itinerary is a five- to seven-night package with the only stop being Bermuda.

Ships will dock at King’s Wharf on the northwest tip of the island for two to three nights as we did during our seven-day cruise. Some may also stop at Hamilton in the island’s center or St. George’s at the northeast tip.

King’s Wharf

This wharf is where all the major cruise lines dock. Ships will stop right beside the Royal Naval Dockyard. It is the most popular tourist site of the islands.

King’s Wharf is rich with history and home to the Bermuda Maritime Museum. There is a mall, lighthouse and art center in the vicinity.

Buses, taxis and scooters can takes guests away from the busy area if they prefer some more private spots for relaxation.

Bermuda Cruise Port Map

The capital of Bermuda is Hamilton—with a population of less than 1,000 people—and has a modest number of things to see and do. A small number of smaller cruise ships usually dock right at Front Street where all the action takes place.

Hamilton has many daytime and nighttime activities, and visitors can see the entire town on foot. Public transportation is available for those that don’t want to walk. We walked the entire length of Front Street with occasional stops in less than two hours.

The most popular way of going from King’s Wharf to Hamilton is an inexpensive ferry that makes regular runs.

St. George’s

St. George’s was the first colonized location on Bermuda and is now a World Heritage Site. This charming city of 1,200 people is full of history and beautiful architecture.

Visitors can stroll along cobblestone streets, dine, shop and enjoy the scenery.

Attractions and Shore Excursions

Quite a few attractions and shore excursions are packed around the Royal Navy Dockyard at King’s Wharf.

The National Museum of Bermuda, officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975, houses some of Bermuda’s most extensive artifact collections. They include rare treasures from the 16th and 17th centuries. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and free for anyone younger than 16. (Prices are subject to change.)

Commissioner’s House built in 1820 was once home to the Dockyard Commissioner. It is a large Georgian House and the first ever cast iron house in the world. Guests can explore the house and see collections and exhibits of that time period.

At Bermuda Craft Market, guests can stroll through 60+ local art stands in the old cooperage building in the dockyard. It’s a five-minute walk north of King’s Wharf.

View or buy artwork and handicrafts including paintings, jewelry, woodwork and candles.

Shore Excursions

Bermuda has a Dolphin Quest facility at the National Museum of Bermuda, by the Old Royal Navy Dockyard, where visitors can swim with the dolphins. Prices start around $150 and go up from there depending on the program.

Anyone with an interest in the island’s lengthy history can take a four- to five-hour tour of the island. Prices range from $75 on up depending on the length and other factors. Destinations may include St. George, Bermuda Botanical Gardens and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.

The 18-hole Turtle Hill Golf Club has an excursion for golfing fans starting at about $125 per person.

Beaches Near the Cruise Port

Snorkel Park is a white sand beach at the west end of Bermuda. It is within the Royal Navy Dockyard complex, and cruisers can walk there from ships that dock at King’s Wharf.

The water is calm and perfect for children to enjoy the ocean. Snorkelers will spy colorful fish and coral reefs under the turquoise waters.

Horseshoe Bay Beach, six miles southwest of the Hamilton cruise port and 10 miles from King’s Wharf, is known as the best beach on the island. It’s also the most popular and often available as a shore excursion from cruise ships.

Black Bay Beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling in its shallow waters. The waves are calm, but swimmers should be aware of sharp rocks.

The sand is soft and covered with sea glass. There is a concession stand in the area to rent umbrellas, chairs and other beach items.

Shopping / Restaurants

Along with the Bermuda Craft Market by King’s Wharf, there are quite a few other options for die-hard shoppers. Although there is no sales tax in Bermuda, items are not cheap due to import duties.

There are shopping centers in Hamilton City (along Front Street), at Somers Wharf in St. George’s and at the Clocktower Mall by the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Some of the more unique finds in Bermuda are Gombey Rag Dolls, Banana Leaf Dolls, Longtail Jewelry and Rum Cakes.

The Pickled Onion serves authentic Bermudian food along with Asian and Latin menu items. The restaurant offers views of Hamilton Harbor.

Black Horse Tavern has Bermudian and Continental food with a casual atmosphere. It is a place where locals like to dine with reasonable prices.

Somerset Country Squire Pub and Restaurant is a traditional British Pub with average prices and a terrace overlooking Mangrove Bay.

Polaris at Carriage House has water views and Bermudian cuisine including seafood and sushi. Local fish and lobster caught fresh are on the daily menu.

Getting Around

Passengers who disembark from ships at King’s Wharf will need transportation to get to Hamilton, which is 15 miles away.

Shore excursion buses are common and often include visits to both Hamilton and St. George’s. These excursions may cost $100 per person or more.

Otherwise, taxis have metered rates set by the government. Exact change is required.

The rate for a one- to four-passenger taxi is $7.90 US for the first mile and $2.75 US for each extra mile. The rate for a five- to seven-passenger taxi is $9.95 US for the first mile and $3.50 US for each extra mile.

The expense of getting from King’s Wharf to Hamilton by taxi and back may make an excursion bus that also goes to St. George a better option. For getting from King’s Whart to Hamilton, it also is cheaper and faster to take the ferry.

The island has a convenient public bus system with 11 routes and 14 zones. Most buses leave from the Central Terminal on Washington Street by City Hall in Hamilton.

Bermuda has an active ferry system for travel around the island. Ferries leave from the Ferry Terminal on Front Street in Hamilton and also from King’s Wharf.

When to Go/ Weather

Bermuda has sub-tropical weather with high humidity and warm temperatures. Average high temperatures from December through March hover in the 60s Fahrenheit.

April through November are warmer months with average highs in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit.

Bermuda does not have a monsoon or rainy season. There is no fixed pattern for rainfall, but October is historically the wettest month with an average of six inches of rain.

April historically is the driest month with three inches of rain.

The best time to visit Bermuda is from April to September. The temperatures are warmer, along with the water.

The majority of tourist attractions are open during this time. Those who prefer to go when there are fewer people should visit during the winter months. The winter is popular with golfers.

Best Time of Year to Cruise to Bermuda

Few destinations invoke such an image of pure relaxation and ultimate holiday fun than Bermuda does.

This archipelago of small islands lies in a beautiful turquoise sea and allures visitors with its swaying palm trees, soft beaches and vibrant island culture.

Bermuda is a place where you can go on literally dozens of different outdoor adventures or simply laze your afternoon away on golden sands. You can connect with locals or attend one of the many annual festivals. No wonder that Condé Nast readers have voted Bermuda as the “best island in the Caribbean/Atlantic” no fewer than eighteen times since 1994. The archipelago is also considered to be one of the world’s top destinations for adventure travelers.

It boasts a fascinating history as well.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll find plenty to discover in Bermuda, from museums to historic sites and colonial buildings. The first European explorer to reach the archipelago was the Spanish captain Juan de Bermudez, after whom the islands are named. He did so in 1503. Since its discovery, Bermuda has been under the rule of the English Virginia Company and, later, became a British colony.

Nowadays, it’s still part of the British Commonwealth—it’s the oldest remaining, and the most populous, Overseas Territory of Great Britain. Bermuda’s capital, St. George, is the oldest continuously inhabited English town in the New World.

So, from beaches and adventure to history and culture, Bermuda has plenty to offer. I’m sure you’re pretty intrigued by now, so let’s continue with some useful information. More specifically, let’s take a look at the climate in Bermuda and the best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda.

An Overview of the Bermuda Climate

Even though Bermuda has a more northerly location than most people expect—it lies at the same latitude as the Carolinas in the United States—, it enjoys a most wonderful climate. This is not a Caribbean island, but it gets pretty close. Some would even say that it’s better than the Caribbean.

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Bermuda is home to more than its fair share of palm trees and subtropical vegetation. Its official climate is “humid subtropical”, bordering a “tropical” climate. While the islands do experience a drop in temperature in the winter months of January, February and early March, there is no record of it ever freezing in Bermuda. The lowest-ever temperature was 43°F, or 6°C.

Summers can get quite hot in Bermuda, but they’re never unbearable. The highest recorded temperature ever was 93°F, or 34°C. Peak summer temperatures typically don’t exceed 86°F, or 30°C. Even if it does happen to get hot in the afternoon, you can simply seek refuge in the sea and wait until the evening sea breeze brings in some welcome cooling.

In other words, the weather is Bermuda is always pleasant, never uncomfortable.

One thing to know, though, is that Bermuda lies in the so-called “hurricane belt”. Its location in the warm Gulf Stream puts it directly in the path of hurricanes in the westerlies. The official hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. However, because of the archipelago’s tiny size, landfalls are exceptionally rare. Moreover, hurricanes usually have weakened by the time they reach Bermuda. This is simply something to be aware of, nothing to worry about.

In case a hurricane does hit, it’s also pleasant to know that most hotels have “hurricane guarantees”, which includes refunds or complimentary stays in the future.

Besides the occasional hurricane—once every decade or so—Bermuda boasts incredible weather. A constant sea breeze cools things down in summer while a plethora of sunshine keeps everything pleasantly warm during winter. Rainfall is nothing to worry about.

Unlike the Caribbean islands, Bermuda does not have a wet season , which is why many prefer it over the Caribbean. Heavy downpours typically happen in summer, and then often only overnight, lasting only a couple of hours. Sunshine is available in abundance, basically all the time.

It’s this year-round fantastic weather that makes Bermuda such a superb outdoor adventure destination. The winds make for great (wind)surfing while dry and sunny weather allow you to explore as much and as far as your heart desires.

So, What’s the Best Time of the Year to Cruise to Bermuda?

Depending on what you’re after and your budget, there are two periods in the year that are ideal for visiting Bermuda.

The first one, often regarded as the absolute best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda, runs from the beginning of March to late-April. These two spring months are great for budget travelers . As the temperatures climb out of their annual low, you’ll be able to enjoy more than comfortable spring weather. This is a quiet time of the year, though, so prices are low. Additionally, this time of year is when some of the most festive events take place in Bermuda. Particularly Easter is a holiday you don’t want to miss—you’ll see islanders head to Horseshoe Bay to fly their colorful handmade kites.

The second best time of the year to cruise to Bermuda is from May through September. This is by far the warmest period, roughly correlating with the summer season. If you’re looking for a beach vacation, this is when you’ll want to visit Bermuda. However, as this is the absolute high season, prices skyrocket. Some luxury hotel rooms on the islands go for more than $1,000 per night! With demand as high as it is in summer, you need to book your cruise and, if applicable, onshore accommodation far in advance. You should also keep in mind that you won’t be alone. Beaches will be crowded, restaurants filled.

The very best time to cruise to Bermuda is late spring—April and May . This period offers the best of everything. Temperatures, both air and water, are unquestionably comfortable enough for outdoor activities as well as swimming while the prices for rooms and excursions haven’t yet reached their peaks.

How do i get from the dockyard port to st. george’s.

During the Summer there is a seasonal orange route ferry that runs from Dockyard to St. George’s. NCL also offers a direct ferry for their passengers. Visitors can also board the Hamilton Ferry (blue route) then transfer to a bus (#1, #3, #10, and #11) to St. George’s. View the current ferry schedule here .

There are a few ways to get to Horseshoe Bay from Dockyard, these include taking the bus (#7 to Hamilton), hopping in a taxi, riding in a shuttle bus or purchasing an excursion via your cruise line.

Are you planning a Bermuda cruise and wondering what to pack?

You’re in luck! Bermuda is one of my all-time favorite destinations! Over the last decade, we’ve cruised to Bermuda several times and have gotten to know the island well.

Bermuda Cruise Packing List

Packing for a Bermuda cruise will be similar to packing for a Caribbean cruise . However, there are some differences in both the weather and culture, which will affect what clothing and other items you may want to bring for your Bermuda cruise .

Bermuda Climate

Bermuda is a subtropical climate , and cruises to Bermuda sail from April-November.

April is typically the coolest month of the Bermuda cruise season, with an average high of about 72°F (22°C). This is a great time to sightsee and spend time outdoors in moderate temperatures.

Bermuda’s warmer “summer weather” typically starts in May, when the average high air temperature is about 76.7°F (25°C). The ocean is starting to warm up, with sea temperatures around 75°F (24°C). If you plan on beach days and water-sports, plan to cruise to Bermuda beginning in May.

The temperature in Bermuda continues to get hotter throughout the summer months, with July, August and September hitting average highs of about 85°F (29°C).

October is still quite warm with highs of 79°F (26°C). However the sea temperature decreases, making it cooler to swim. Bermuda gradually cools through November, with an average high of 74.9 °F (23.8°C). In November, there is also more chance of rain than the previous months of the Bermuda cruise season.

What to Wear on a Bermuda Cruise

If you’re taking a 7 day Bermuda Cruise, you’ll need outfits for your sea days as well as evening wear for your cruise .

It’s a good idea to check your cruise line’s dress codes . Most 7 day cruises will have 2 Formal, Dress Your Best or Chic Evenings . The other evenings will be casual or smart casual dress.

Something to note is that dress codes apply in the main dining room, and not the buffet and casual restaurants.

Since Bermuda cruises usually sail from Northern US ports such as New York, New Jersey and Boston, it’s important to check the weather and plan your clothing accordingly.

How to Dress for a Day in Bermuda

You’ll need to pack clothing to wear when visiting Bermuda for 2-3 days . When planning what to wear in Bermuda, think resort wear.

Clothing Suggestions for Ladies

You’ll likely need swimsuits and cover ups for the beach, and shorts and t-shirts or sundresses for sightseeing during the day. Short shorts and bathing suits are frowned upon when off the beach.

Don’t forget to pack comfortable shoes for walking and a light sweater for the evening.

Clothing Suggestions for Men

Men may want to pack polo shirts and Bermuda shorts for sightseeing in Hamilton and walking around in Royal Naval Dockyard. Pants or jeans are appropriate if you decide to have dinner in a local restaurant in the evening.

30 Things to Pack for a Bermuda Cruise

Here’s a list of the most essential items to pack for your cruise . I’ve included both cruise accessories that will be useful for any cruise, as well as things to bring that are specific for your Bermuda Cruise.

1. Government ID &/or Passports

The most important things to pack for your cruise to Bermuda government ID and passport if applicable. Make sure to have this on you, and never pack it in your checked luggage . Unfortunately, if you don’t have it with you, you’ll be denied boarding.

It’s a good idea to use a passport wallet holder . This one is so practical and will ensure that you don’t make the mistake of packing your passport in your luggage.

2. Proof of Vaccine & Test Results

These days, most cruise lines are sailing with a requirement for all guests to be vaccinated, with few exceptions. You’ll also need to provide a negative Covid 19 test result when boarding.

Since the health situation remains fluid, make sure to check your cruise line’s policy and keep up to date up with protocols up until your sailing.

3. Embarkation Day Bag

While you’ll check your luggage at the cruise terminal, you’ll want to have a cruise carry on bag with all you need for embarkation day . In here, you can keep your essentials like a change of clothes, a bathing suit and cover up, medications and any valuables.

A small suitcase , small duffel bag or backpack all make great cruise embarkation day bags.

4. Toiletries

In addition to your cruise outfits, pack travel sized toiletries .  This includes basic items such toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream etc. You may also want to pack perfume, moisturizers and other personal items.

5. Medication

Your cruise packing list should include both over the counter and prescription medication. It’s also a good idea to pack 2 extra weeks of medication as a precaution.

6. Non-surge Protected Power Bar

Cruise cabins are well known for not having enough electric outlets. If you’re bringing electronic items like cell phones, an iPpad, hair straighteners or any other electronic item, you’ll likely want more plugs and USB outlets.

Many cruisers pack a non-surge protected power strip , which is cruise compliant. Please note that you can’t bring a regular surge protected power strip, as it’s considered a safety hazard on a cruise.

7. US Dollars

The Bermudan dollar is the official currency of Bermuda. However, it is pegged 1:1 to the value of the US dollar, and taken interchangeably on the island. So, you can feel free to use your US dollars in Bermuda to buy food, drinks, souvenirs, ferry tickets etc.

8. Reef Friendly Sunscreen

Bermuda is amazing seen and experienced at sea, on a catamaran excursion, ferry boat, or at one of the gorgeous pink sand beaches. Make sure to pack reef friendly sunscreen and reapply often.

9. Lip Balm with SPF

Remember to pack lip balm with SPF , as lips can burn in the sun and get swollen if this happens.

10. Aloe Vera Gel

Bringing aloe vera gel or an after-sun care lotion is a must for your cruise. Unfortunately, even with taking precautions, getting too much sun can happen.

11. Swimsuit Cover Up

A pretty bathing suit cover up is a must-have cruise wear for a Bermuda cruise. You may want to bring more than one swimsuit cover up to use on the lido deck of your cruise ship as well as to go to the beach.

Bermuda cruise tip: Horseshoe Bay Beach is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world! You can easily go there on your own from the Royal Naval Dockyard , where your cruise ship will dock in Bermuda.

12. Water Shoes

These lightweight water shoes are very comfortable and easy to pack for your cruise. The sand is soft in Bermuda, however there are large rocks on many Bermuda beaches. These can be rough and water shoes will come in handy.

13. Golf Clubs

Have you ever seen golf clubs on a cruise packing list ? Me neither.

However, Bermuda has some of the most incredible golf courses in the world. Since you’ll be in Bermuda for 2-3 days during your cruise, you can plan a day of golf on your own or with a shore excursion . If you’re driving to the cruise port, consider bringing your set of golf clubs.

14. Snorkel Gear

If you love the beach, ocean and sea life, it’s a good idea to pack your own snorkel gear . You won’t regret it in Bermuda!

It’s a good idea to bring a large beach bag that can be used for to pack for a beach day in Bermuda, or to use on the ship as well (for sunscreen, towels, books, water bottles and more).

Hang bathing suits to dry, baseball caps, and even backpacks for excursions. Be sure they are heavy-duty and strong!

26. Cabin Alarm Clock

If you like to know the time during the night or don’t want to rely on your cell phone, consider a simple travel battery operated clock .

27. Motion Sensor Nightlight

This portable motion sensor nightlight is so practical and makes a great gift for cruisers . This is especially handy for inside cabins , which will be pitch black when the lights are off.

28. Portable Fan

Cruise cabins can get stuffy. This small fan is battery operated, but rechargeable, and gets great reviews on Amazon.

29. Wrinkle Release Spray

Cruise cabins will not have irons , as they’re a fire hazard. Clothes steamers are prohibited on most cruise ships as well. So Downy Wrinkle Release spray is a good way to get wrinkles out of your cruise outfits .

You can make your own travel first aid kit , or purchase a cruise first aid kit that’s ready made and pre-filled with bandages and other items you may need for your cruise.

Towel clips are wonderful to use on cruise ship deck chairs, to keep your towel in place when there’s an ocean breeze. It also makes it easier to recognize your chair!

A lanyard holds your cruise card both on the ship and in port, keeping your hands free. It’s one of the most useful items to bring on a cruise.

25. Cruise Luggage Tag Holders

Your cruise luggage tags will need to be printed, then folded and stapled and put on your luggage. While this is perfectly fine, the paper can be flimsy and it takes time to do this the morning of your cruise.

Luggage tag holders are reusable, and truly one of the best cruise accessories you’ll ever have. They’re available for every cruise line (in wide or long sizes).

26. Waterproof Phone Case

It’s a good idea to bring a waterproof phone case on your cruise, for sea days by the pool as well as port days by the beach. This one includes the ability to use the touch screen as well.

Make sure to have some motion sickness remedies, as it’s always possible to be affected by some seasickness during your cruise .

Bring along some Bonine or other seasickness medication, in case you feel some motion due to rough seas. It’s handy to have just in case.

This will be my parents first trip to Bermuda, but are avid cruisers.

Bermuda is a great destination. Your mom may enjoy visiting and sightseeing Hamilton. The ferry to get there should be very accessible. Crystal Caves may be difficult, as there are a lot of stairs and it is humid. The beaches are beautiful. A shuttle should take her right down to the beach area at Horseshoe Bay is she enjoys this. There is also a little train that goes around the Dockyard area and stops at some main points of interest.

Norwegian Cruise Line set to cruise from Philadelphia. When and where it will sail

Norwegian Cruise Line will base a ship out of Philadelphia, and begin operating trips from the city port starting in 2026.

The NCL cruises will run from its initial itineraries from the Port of Philadelphia from April 16 to Oct. 17, 2026, with 24 calls and overnight stays in destinations to Bermuda, New England and Canada, according to the line.

Alternating home ports between Philadelphia and Quebec City in the fall, the line is offering seven to nine day cruises to Bermuda in the spring and summer. The Bermuda itineraries feature overnight calls at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Additionally, in the fall of 2026, the line will offer 10 and 11-day cruises to Canada and New England.

The Norwegian Jewel can hold 2,330 guests, according to NCL. The ship, featuring 16 dining options and 13 bars and lounges, will depart from the SouthPort Marine Terminal Complex in South Philadelphia. Cruises will stop in smaller ports including: Saguenay, Charlottetown, Halifax, Canada, Bar Harbor, Maine and Boston.

The Port of Philadelphia said the cruise line's entry into the city will be an economic boom, saying it could ultimately "generate over 2,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, and over $40 million in annual county and state tax revenue."

PhilaPort, hor the Port of Philadelphia, will be preparing over the next 18 months for the cruise line, including making capital improvements.

Ships briefly cruised out of Philadelphia some 15 years ago. Now cruise passengers need to travel to New Jersey, New York or Baltimore in the region to sail.

"We have been known as the fastest growing cargo port in North America,” said Jeff Theobald, executive director and CEO of PhilaPort, in a statement. “Now we are pleased to add tourism and cruises to our portfolio.”

Norweigan Cruise Lines Coming To PhilaPort In 2026

Vacationers can set sail to Bermuda from the Port of Philadelphia beginning in 2026.

PhilaPort on the Delaware River will serve as the home port for Norwegian Cruise Line's Norweigan Jewel, according to port management. 

The Norweigan Jewel will ferry up to 2,330 guests to Bermuda in 26 calls to Philadelphia scheduled from April to October 2026, said PhilaPort in a statement. 

The ship will dock in Bermuda overnight during the planned seven-to-nine-day voyages, "giving guests more time to enjoy the island’s stunning turquoise waters and pink-sand beaches," management said. 

Also planned are 10 and 11-day "open-jaw voyages" to Canada and New England beginning in September 2026, port officials added. For those cruises, the Norweigan Jewel will alternate home ports between Philly and Quebec City, with calls in Bar Harbor, Boston, Saguenay, Charlottetown, and Halifax. 

Port officials believe the cruise operations will create some 2,000 "direct, indirect and induced" jobs by 2028, as well as up to $40 million in state and local tax revenue. 

Philadelphia's hospitality industry, including restaurants and hotels, is also expected to benefit. 

“As the first passenger cruise line to homeport in Philadelphia in many years, the arrival of Norwegian Jewel is a key milestone for NCL and our partners at the Port of Philadelphia,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. 

“We are looking forward to welcoming guests from the area and surrounding cities starting spring 2026 and offering them the vacation of a lifetime.”

In the meantime, the port will undergo "capital improvements" to handle the expected influx of passengers, officials added. 

“We have been known as the fastest-growing cargo port in North America,” said Jeff Theobald, Executive Director and CEO of PhilaPort. “Now we are pleased to add tourism and cruises to our portfolio.”

Cruise ships are coming back to Philly in 2026. Port officials hope for ‘year round’ business.

The Port of Philadelphia is getting back in the cruise business.

Starting in April 2026, Norwegian Cruise Line will stop by Philadelphia’s Delaware River port to pick up passengers for voyages to Bermuda, officials said Wednesday.

The cruise line will offer trips of up to nine days to Bermuda aboard the Norwegian Jewel, which can accommodate about 2,400 people. In the fall, itineraries will include Canada and New England.

Officials with the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority — a state agency known as PhilaPort that owns terminals and other port infrastructure — say the cruise business will be a boon to the regional economy.

“We’re hoping this is just a launching point for cruises to leave Philadelphia year round,” Sean Mahoney, PhilaPort’s director of marketing, said in an interview. The port authority has been in talks with Norwegian Cruise Line for about two years, he said, adding that the company “was bullish on the Philadelphia market and the potential of the cruising public here.”

Bookings are already available . The price for a seven-day trip to Bermuda started at $1,197 per person as of Wednesday afternoon.

PhilaPort officials said they anticipate that “if growth continues” in its cruise operations by 2028, this industry could create and support more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, as well as more than $40 million in annual tax revenue to the city and state. Philadelphia last welcomed a cruise ship around 2010, Mahoney said, but he expects this new service to pay bigger dividends.

Delaware River ports are a hub of international commerce, generating an estimated $49 billion in economic activity in 2021 , according to the most recent analysis performed for the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay .

“This means tourism travel to our city, jobs for our workers at PhilaPort, and simply put, broader economic opportunity for Philadelphia,” Mayor Cherelle L. Parker said in a statement.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said the development would help support Philadelphia’s tourism industry just as the city prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.

Over the next 18 months, port authority officials plan to invest the capital needed to develop Philadelphia’s Southport Marine Terminal Complex, which will service the cruise ships, according to Mahoney. He said PhilaPort would pay for the improvements out of its operating budget, which is funded by rents from tenants. The upgrades will likely cost several million dollars, he said, though an engineering firm still needs to complete an assessment.

“We need to upgrade the pier structure to be able to handle luggage, to screen luggage,” he said. “We want to make sure passengers can get on and off the ship in inclement weather,” as well as provide for sufficient parking.

Mahoney added, “We have the money. We have the budget to do it.”

The Delaware River waterfront property south of the Walt Whitman Bridge was once part of the Navy Yard. Another parcel of the Southport property is dedicated to an auto center, where hundreds of thousands of Hyundais and Kias shipped annually from South Korea are processed before they reach showrooms.

Public officials have spent years trying to decide how to best use the Southport property.

A 2015 report by the City Controller’s Office found that Southport’s economic impact would be strongest — as measured by jobs and tax revenue — if the property was developed into a modern container terminal.

PhilaPort and state officials ultimately decided to modernize the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal instead.

Norwegian Cruise Line is a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. , a global company that has a combined fleet of 32 ships that visit 700 destinations across the world. NCL said the new service “will provide residents in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region more access to cruising.”

The Port of Philadelphia announced that it will commence cruise operations in 2026, welcoming Norwegian Cruise Line .

Norwegian will dock it's Norwegian Jewel - which has the capacity to accommodate 2,300 guests - in Philadelphia offering cruises to various places.

Officials said during the summer 2026 season, Norwegian Jewel will offer seven-to-nine-day voyages to the island paradise of Bermuda, where the ship will dock overnight, giving guests time to enjoy all the island has to offer.

Officials said the Port of Philadelphia will prepare over the next two years and work with organizations across the state to rebuild its cruise business.

PHILADELPHIA - A massive 2026 in Philadelphia is getting even more exciting as Norwegian Cruise Line announced Wednesday it will launch from the Port of Philadelphia.

The port has not been a homeport for cruises in nearly 15 years, and the nearest stops since for cruise goers have been Baltimore and New York City.

The Norwegian Jewel, with the capacity to accommodate over 2,300 guests, will homeport in Philadelphia starting in April 2026 through October.

The ships will make two dozen stops in the city during that time, and will offer seven-to-nine-day voyages to Bermuda. 

The cruise line says from September to October, the Norwegian Jewel will embark on 10 and 11-day voyages to Canada and New England.

"With all eyes on Philadelphia as we prepare to host our country’s 250th birthday in 2026, the Port will continue to help support and grow Philadelphia tourism to create economic opportunity for our region, workers, and businesses," Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said. 

Over the next 18 months, the cruise line says the port will prepare "for this new chapter of cruising from the city." They believe the nearby hotels, restaurants and historical attractions will help boost the local economy. 

"This means tourism travel to our city, jobs for our workers at PhilaPort, and simply put, broader economic opportunity for Philadelphia," Mayor Chrelle Parker said.

"Cruising has become increasingly popular and is booking months and months in advance so to have a local port here in Philadelphia where locals can cruise in and out of is an exceptional option," said Jana Tidwell, AAA Spokesperson.

Officials say in 2023, Philadelphia welcomed 1.1 million international visitors, with more than 548,000 visitors coming from Canada alone. Canadian visitors spent over $171.2 million.

"I think it’s great for the city of Philadelphia, it’s an opportunity for us to showcase the city of Philadelphia on the world scale so I think them choosing the city of Philadelphia is a win for us today," said Council President Kenyatta Johnson.

Philadelphia is slated for a historic 2026, with the city set to celebrate America's 250th birthday and host popular sporting events like the FIFA World Cup, MLB All-Star Game, and the PGA's 108th Championship.
