Following a 4-year absence and fresh off the heels of her ongoing tour of the same name, Nina Conti is preparing to embark on a West End run of her new critically acclaimed show,  The Dating Show at London’s Arts Theatre from 9 th  – 19 th  February 2022. British Comedy Award winner Nina is currently touring the UK to critical acclaim with her new hour  The Dating Show  before transferring to London’s West End in 2022. Just like Cilla Black but with masks. Derailed. Not so much a Blind Date as a re-voiced one. Nina started doing stand-up ventriloquism in 2002 and shot to fame by winning the BBC New Comedy Award that same year. Famed for her foul-mouthed ‘sidekick’ Monkey (Monk), Nina has won numerous comedy awards for her writing, acting and ventriloquism.  She has taken numerous shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Montreal Comedy Festival. In 2016, her smash-hit solo show ’In Your Face’ ( ‘a plate-spinning feat, a hoot’  * * * * * The Guardian) enjoyed sell-out seasons in London’s West End and New York’s off-Broadway.

Nina has stormed ‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘QI’, ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ and ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’ – all without moving her lips. In 2012 she fronted two documentaries for BBC4: ‘Make Me Happy: A Monkey’s Search for Happiness’ saw Nina take Monk on a journey into the world of new age and alternative therapies and ‘A Ventriloquists Story: Her Masters Voice’ (currently available   on Amazon Prime) in which Nina took the bereaved puppets of her mentor and erstwhile lover Ken Campbell on a pilgrimage to Vent Haven which was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award.

More recently, she was a runner-up in a major US TV network’s talent show programme (The World’s Best, NBC) and her improvised web series, ‘In Therapy’ (YouTube), has amassed over 1.5 million views since 2018.

Nina Conti announces UK tour after Fringe run for Whose Face Is It Anyway?

BAFTA nominee and British Comedy Award winner Nina Conti  is gearing up to make a spectacular return to theatres up and down the country, with her brand-new live show  ‘Whose Face Is It Anyway?’ .

The critically-acclaimed Conti heads back to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, performing her highly-anticipated new hour to audiences in the 7.30pm primetime slot each evening at the Pleasance Grand,  from Wednesday 31 st  July – Sunday 25 th  August 2024   ( previews 31 st  July – 1 st  August. No performance on 7 th , 13 th , 19 th  August).

And to follow on from her month at the Fringe, Conti can now announce a brand-new  21 date tour across the UK in 2025.

Conti’s return to the Fringe follows her previous critically acclaimed hour ‘ The Dating Show’ , which debuted at the Pleasance in 2022 to rave reviews, before touring the globe with a sell-out UK tour, shows at the Sydney Opera House, and culminating with a two-week residency at New York’s Soho Playhouse. Elsewhere, Nina has recently finished filming on her narrative film directorial debut  ‘Sunlight’ . Set in New Mexico, the film is a darkly funny and unconventional love story between a man and a woman who doesn’t want to come out of a monkey suit. In a clever reference to Conti’s own ventriloquism act, which throughout her career has seen her voicing her uncensored thoughts via a monkey puppet, this film is the upshot.

The film co-stars and was co-written with  Shenoah Allen , of the  Pyjama Men  duo, and is executive produced by  This Is Spinal Tap  creator  Christopher Guest .  Sunlight  is being lined up to premiere at upcoming film festivals for 2024 / 2025 and recently featured as part of the BFI and British Council’s annual ‘ GREAT 8 ’ showcase this year at  Cannes , which presents new feature films from the UK’s most exciting first and second-time filmmakers to international distributors and festival programmers.

In a continuation of her work with Christopher Guest, Nina has also recently been finished filming as part of the cast of the upcoming  sequel  to the 1984 cult classic  This Is Spinal Tap .

Across her career, comedian and ventriloquist Conti has won a British Comedy Award, stormed  ‘Live at the Apollo’ ,  ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’  &  ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’,  and made a BAFTA nominated film – all without moving her lips.

Nina began her career as an actress at the Royal Shakespeare Company before the genius, and anarchic theatre director Ken Campbell inspired her to become a ventriloquist.

In 2008 she won the prestigious Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for her solo show  Complete and Utter Conti .

Other television credits include  QI, The John Bishop Show  and Chris O’Dowd’s HBO series  Family Tree . She was also a regular in Sony award-winning BBC Radio 4 show  Clare and the Community .

Her directorial debut,  Her Master’s Voice,  in which she took the bereaved puppets of her mentor, Ken Campbell, to a puppet graveyard in Kentucky, won her a BAFTA nomination and a Grierson Award.
