African Lion Safari: Ontario’s Wildest Safari Adventure

Great news for fans of African Lion Safari – they open Saturday, May 4th for the 2024 season and have lots of WILD fun in store for you and your family! We have the inside scoop on what you can expect when you visit this summer, updates on the new African Lion Safari ticket prices plus some tips and important info for visitors.

2024 Season highlights

African Lion Safari is Canada’s Original Safari Adventure. They maintain a collection of over 1,000 exotic birds and animals comprised of over 100 different species. What animal is your favourite? Will you giggle at the silly monkeys and lemurs or be entranced watching the long-legged giraffes stroll their habitat?

Drive Through Game Reserve – One of my earliest memories of African Lion Safari was when we saw cars driving through the game reserves getting oh-so-close to the animals roaming around. It was like nothing I had ever seen before! The drive-through is 9 km long and it takes you up close through 7 large Game Reserves featuring Nairobi Sanctuary, Simba Lion Country, Timbavati Lion Country, Wankie Bushland Trail, Rocky Ridge Veldt, Australasia and The Americas. You stay in your vehicle, driving at a very slow pace, and you get to witness animals roam their territory.

Take The “Nature Boy “Train – Hop on the train for a 15-minute ride through 16 hectares of animals and birds. A trip is included in your admission.

Climb Aboard The “African Queen” – Take a boat ride to enjoy a pleasant tour around Water Safari Lake. The informative captain will take you on a cruise around the islands and point out exotic primates including the White-handed gibbon, Ring-tailed lemur, Black-handed Spider monkeys and Robust Black Spider monkeys. Bird dwellers include the Marabou stork and the Pink-backed pelican. The tour is about 15 minutes and is included in your admission.

African Lion Safari’s Waterpark Splash Pad

The splash pad, Misumu Bay Wetplay, is more than just a splash pad at African Lion Safari! As a matter of fact, this may be the highlight of your visit! I have multiple friends who buy season passes strictly for this amazing waterpark. The waterpark is included in your admission and while you’re there cool down under the dumping bucket or slip down the water slides. Enjoy sprinklers and water shooters and fountains, too!

How much is it to go to the Safari? This year, you can purchase your tickets in advance online or at the gate. Limited tickets will be available to buy at the gate, and they recommend pre-purchasing online to secure your spot. What’s more, you save a few dollars when you buy online. Take Bus Number 40 and get off at Southern BL at Lion Country Safari Rd , 2.3 miles (4 km) from the attraction.

You will find metered parking lots inside Lion Country Safari.

Lion Country Safari opens daily at 9.30 am and closes by 5.30 pm.

Home to approximately 1000 animals, the African Lion Safari is a family owned safari park that is a must visit for wild life enthusiasts. Spanning over 740 acres, visitors can tour any or all of the seven game reserves where animals like lion, giraffe and elephants roam freely. Guests are allowed to tour the facility in their own vehicles or have the option of hopping on a tour bus that takes them through the park.

The Park was founded by retired colonel Gordon Debenham who had an intense passion for animals. The park also has a walking area where birds and animals like parrots, macaws, elephants, flamingos and rabbits can be seen.

African Lion Safari Travel Tips

• Grounds remain open for an extra 1.5 hours after game reserves and ticket booth entrance close.
• Vehicles on which openings cannot be closed or where safety is otherwise compromised (for instance, by large cracks in the windshield) will not be allowed into the reserves.

Safari Park Timing

Etawah Safari Park opens as early as 10 o’clock in the morning and stays open for the visitors till 5 o’clock in the evening. The safari park remains closed on every Monday for reinforcement and cleaning purposes. The weekly off could be postponed to the next day, if Monday happens to be a holiday.

The janitors of this park are responsible for carrying out the regular activities. They take every possible step to mark a line between the visitors and living standard of the animals to avoid any disturbance in their living standards .

The Safari Park Authority has set the Etawah lion safari ticket rate at the low, and it is different for varied demography and overseas visitors. The sale of entry tickets starts at 10 am and closes at 4.30 pm.

Taigan Lion Safari Park reopens in Crimea

The famous Crimean safari park with lions "Taigan", one of its kind in Russia, reopened to visitors after six months. Now, according to the director of the park, Oleg Zubkov, there are hundreds of Crimean visitors every day who are still observing the mask regime and social distancing. Since July 1 numerous guests from mainland Russia are expected here - when Crimea opens its borders.

Safari Park "Taigan" - a private lion park - has the largest collection of predators in Europe and is located in the Belogorsky district of Crimea. About 60 lions live here in freedom, including rare white species. The territory covers 32 hectares, about 20 hectares are reserved for the lions safari park, the rest of the area is a stationary zoo and a children's contact zoo. The Taigan has been closed since December 2019 - at first it could not work due to lengthy lawsuits, and then quarantine measures due to coronavirus.

“We survived, preserved and increased the number of species: new lion cubs, jaguars, bison and monkeys were practically getting born every day,” Oleg Zubkov said. According to him, the park eliminated all previously identified violations. Zubkov also emphasized that the situation with the work of the park is under control of the Crimean authorities, with whom they reached complete understanding.

An adult ticket to a private safari park "Taigan" now costs 1000 rubles, and 500 for a child. There are no discounts and benefits for the visitors.

Our Safari Tour Buses are air-conditioned, educationally guided and have large windows to ensure you do not miss out on those perfect photo opportunities during your 1-1.5 hour tour! Safari Tour Buses are available for an additional fee (tickets may be purchased upon arrival at the park).

Please note that all windows are closed during the tour.  Buses operate at full capacity and do not have assigned seating.
