Aruba Sunset Cruise

Deep orange sky as the sun sets in Aruba with boats on the sea as silhouettes

A sunset cruise in Aruba is one of the best activities as you can be as relaxed or adventurous as you like. Whether you want to set sail on a catamaran or enjoy a luxury three-course meal, the magic of the setting sun will ensure you have a trip to remember.

The calm water around the island gives you the perfect opportunity to see the stunning coastline and beaches as the sun goes down.

As the sun goes down you can relax with a drink or, if you prefer, you have the option to enjoy a sit-down meal with your family or friends!

The adventurous among you may decide that snorkelling is a better option. The sea around Aruba is teeming with life and you may even be lucky enough to glimpse a turtle coming up for breath as the sun sets behind them.

The tour operators always bring their friendly, fun-loving Aruban charm and welcome guests with open arms. The captain is often your guide, entertainer and new friend as he does all he can to help you create lasting memories on their boat.

If you plan on taking a vacation to Aruba then a sunset cruise should be near the top of your list of activities. It’s certainly a romantic time in the evening and the setting couldn’t be more perfect for those with a special celebration coming up.

Best Sunset Cruise Overall

a catamaran sails on the sea with the sun and deep red sky in the background.

Aruba Sunset Sail – This is the best sunset cruise in Aruba overall. Sailing on a luxury catamaran along the coast of Palm Beach, this cruise offers appetisers and an open bar of tropical cocktails. The perfect ingredients for a magical sunset cruise.

A relaxing cruise is the best way to enjoy the stunning sunset at the end of the day. Whether you’ve been tanning or out on a jeep tour, it’s time to unwind with the crew as they entertain you with stories, music and maybe a little dancing.

Guests were particularly pleased with the snacks and open bar while many pointed out the amazing job of the crew.

So grab a cocktail or beer, enjoy some snacks and settle into the catamaran netting. Then grab your cameras and enjoy the star (get it?) of the show!

There are other cruise options for those who prefer to dine at a restaurant after the cruise itself, but for a truly magical experience, dinner on the boat is a must.

This dinner cruise starts with a welcome drink before heading out to catch the stunning sunset. Then the luxury vessel’s very own onboard chef will prepare an exquisite 4-course dinner for you and your guests.

Best Sunset Cruise With Snorkelling

Pair of snorkel fins left on the side of the rocks

All-Inclusive Afternoon Sunset Snorkel Tour – For those who want a bit more action in their sunset activities, this is the best sunset snorkel cruise you can take. This is a great way to combine some swimming and snorkelling before taking in the colours of the sunset towards the evening.

On this 3.5-hour cruise, you’ll be sailing on the Lady Black – a 110-foot-long pirate ship with a rope swing, open bar and netting area for relaxing. You’ll stop at the famous Antilla Shipwreck where you stare down at what remains 400ft at the bottom of the sea floor. Then it’s off to Boca Catalina and finishing at Malmok Beach.

The cruise does start a little earlier than others (15:30) as you will obviously need more daylight to enjoy the views of all the colourful sea creatures and you do have to bring your own towel.

This is a great tour if you have kids or if you’re young at heart as that little bit of adventure adds to the fun before you can enjoy the setting sun together as a family.

✅ Snorkel gear

✅ Rope swing

✅ Light snacks

✅ 3 snorkelling stops

Best Jolly Pirate Sunset Cruise

An image of an old style sailing ship named The Jolly Pirate in Aruba. It is sailing across calm waters

Jolly Pirate Sunset Grub & Grog Dinner Sail in Aruba – For a swashbuckling good time, you have to go on a Jolly Pirate sunset cruise! No doubt you’ll have seen this famous pirate ship cruising the waters of Aruba’s beaches. The 85-foot schooner has been sailing Aruba since 1997 and is almost part of the (sea) furniture!

Meeting at the MooMba Beach Bar & Restaurant, your adventure sets off at 17:30 you’ll set off on a three-hour journey along the west coast of Aruba ready to take in that magical sunset.

This adult-only party tour includes unlimited drinks and a BBQ feast to fuel the good times. And when you’ve had your fill you can go for a dip by swinging off the rope swing!

What do you wear on a sunset cruise in Aruba?

You don’t really need much when you go on a sunset cruise in Aruba. The type of tour you choose may determine what you’ll need to wear.

Aruba has a laid-back, relaxed vibe so for most tours that include dinner, you’d be fine with smart casual. Ladies will be fine in a casual summer dress or summer t-shirt and shorts. The men will be fine with a polo t-shirt with denim shorts or something similar.

Footwear should be light and flat although you won’t even be wearing any if your trip is on a catamaran.

Those who want to go on a snorkelling tour will need to take swimwear and a towel. Since these cruises often leave earlier to get more daylight, sunglasses and/or a hat can help with protection. It’s always a good idea to bring snacks and extra water toe even if the tour provides them.

I always take sunscreen on cruises too. Even though the sun is going down, those with sensitive skin might still be staying in the sun for up to an hour. Another item I take is sea sickness pills. The last thing you want on a magical evening is your dinner going over the side of the boat.

These are the other essentials I always take with me on a cruise whether it be sunset or not.

✅ Camera/Smartphone

✅ Wallet/Credit cards

✅ Sunscreen

✅ Seasickness pills

✅ Sunglasses

✅ Bottle of water

Aruba Sunset Cruise FAQ

What is a sunset cruise.

A sunset cruise is a leisure activity that involves cruising around in a boat at sunset. It is a popular activity among couples and families. Sunset cruises offer a unique opportunity to view the sunset from the water.

They also provide a romantic setting for couples. In addition, sunset cruises typically include music and refreshments, making them a fun and relaxing experience!

How much do you tip on a sunset cruise?

While most cruises include the cost of the captain and crew in the price of the ticket, it is customary to tip them 15-20% if you had a good experience. This extra money is greatly appreciated by the captain and crew, who work hard to make sure you have a pleasant experience.

If you loved your captain, first mates, or cruise guides, they will be grateful if you include a tip. Most tours do not include tips for the crew, so be sure to plan ahead and bring some extra cash to show your appreciation!

Other things to Do in Aruba

✔️ Check out the ruins and historic sites around the island

✔️ Take an UTV Tour to some of Aruba's most popular natural attractions.

✔️ Beach-hop around the most pristine beaches in the Caribbean

✔️ Take a 25-minute ride in a hopper plane to visit Curacao or Bonaire .

✔️ Have a romantic dinner for two at the California Lighthouse

✔️ Date night Sunset Cruise and Seaside Dinner

What do you wear on a sunset cruise in Aruba?

You'll want to wear light clothing, a hat or sunglasses, and most importantly, reef-safe sunscreen!

☀️ Reef Safe Sunscreen

Reef-safe sunscreen is required by law in most Caribbean islands. Be aware that just because it says "reef-safe" doesn't mean it is! Also, it shouldn't be reef friendly, it needs to be reef-safe. This is so important for the Caribbean islands. Check the reef-safe.org guide to be sure you're buying sunscreen that will protect the beautiful Caribbean coral reefs.

🤿Snorkel Gear!

Some of these tour includes jumping into coral reefs and warm clear waters! While they usually include snorkeling gear , often they don't fit right or leak. I prefer to bring my own!

Then, I have the option of snorkeling whenever I want, not just on the tour! A friend turned me on to Cressi's snorkeling gear a while ago. I've snorkeled in Turks and Caicos , Aruba , Grand Cayman , and other Caribbean islands and this gear always pulls through.

🤢 Sea Bands or Dramamine

If you're anything like me, you'll want sea bands or some motion sickness relief. Dramamine Non-Drowsy with Natural Ginger is my go-to for planes, jeeps, and boats. If you catch a day when the waters are rough, it can easily ruin your snorkeling experience.

Phones have great built-in cameras these days, a GoPro can be really helpful for recording memories without having to worry about your phone all day! I recently invested in a GoPro 10 and it has been a game-changer for making memories.

Plus, you likely don't want to worry about your phone in the water. It's easy to strap on your GoPro and capture memories without worrying about a thing.

🌊Floating Waterproof Phone Case

If you don't want to commit to a GoPro, a waterproof and floating phone case will do the trick! I love being able to capture memories on land and in the water! I didn't want to bring a good camera on my Stingray City tour in Grand Cayman , so I used this, and it worked great.

☁️ Sand Cloud Quick Dry Towel

I don't go to any beach without my Turkish quick dry towe l. You've likely heard about them from Shark Tank a long time ago. I HATE sand. So, a towel that dries quickly and shakes the sand out easily is the towel for me.

✅ Bucuti & Tara Boutique Beach Resort - Adults Only

✅ Luxury Eagle Beach Penthouse

✅ Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino

  • A cute light dress or button-up shirt
  • Sweater for a chillier night
  • Zenni Optical for affordable, customizable sunglasses. My Zenni sunglasses are polarized and splash-resistant (for under $60) so I don't get on a boat without them.
  • Manda Reef Safe Sunscreen (recommended by SavetheReef.org as a 100% ocean-safe sunscreen)

The Aruba Sunset Sail with Appetizers and Open Bar Tour is also one of visitors’ favorites.

I love the money-value relation for this cruise, you’ll get to see a lot for little money.

The tour includes bite-sized appetizers and an open bar while you sail on board of a luxury catamaran. You absolutely need to try their homemade rum punch on this tour!

Included : Drinks, Appetizers

This was a beautiful sunset cruise. Friendly staff, yummy food and drinks. It was beautiful sailing up and down the island and watching it light up as the sun set. Carol B

If you are looking for a bit of a different and fun adventure, you have to come aboard the Jolly Pirate Sunset Sail Aruba. This excursion takes place on an actual “pirate” ship.

We did not take this tour personally, but we could see the ship from our boat. Guests had so much fun on the rope swing, jumping into the water. I was a little bit jealous (:

Sadly, there is no food included in this tour. However, this is one of the most beloved Aruba booze cruises on the island.

Included : Open Bar

Beautiful weather Kacy_D, Feb 2023 It was great. The crew works well together. It is fun even if you don’t rope jump. The beauty of the island from the boat is so nice. Great pictures too. Thank you

I will not lie, I always get a little bit excited when I see the words Adults Only in a tour description somewhere.

This tour needs to be on top of your list if you wish for a grown-up tour in Aruba.

This tour also includes a swimming stop in Catalina Bay – so make sure to bring your swimsuit. The groups are pretty small with only 12 people, which makes the experience even better.

Included : Open Bar, Grilled Sandwiches

Duration : 3 hours

This Private Aqua Donut Island Dinner Tour in Aruba honestly looks like so much fun. You will float around in a small, circular tube boat.

The fun thing is, that the floating table is being set up for you in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. You will travel there with a speed boat.

You can bring up to 10 friends and enjoy the ride! I find 1,5 hours a bit short in comparison to other cruises, but it is definitely more unique. If you are looking for a private Aruba dinner cruise – this is it.

Included : Water, Snorkeling Equipment

Duration : 1,5 hours

Aruba has a lot of sightseeing to offer. The beaches are pristine and the landscape is impressive. While you are on the island, I suggest visiting these places

  • Aruba Aloe Farm and Museum
  • Visit the most instagrammable places on the island
  • have dinner in a beachfront restaurant
  • California Lighthouse
  • Arikok National Park
  • Rudgers Beach
  • Butterfly Farm
  • Sint Nicolaas (Street Art)
  • Oranjestad (Shopping)
  • Renaissance Island (Flamingos!)
  • Visit Aruba during Christmas times

The summer nights in Aruba are quite warm, so it is not necessary to dress warm. However, there can be some chilly winds, so maybe bring a light west or jacket. Make sure to bring sunglasses.

The best sunset cruises in Aruba are the Aruba Private Charters Sunset Cruise and the Luxury Wine and Dine Dinner Sail in Aruba. Both experiences provide you with the ultimate romantic Sunset Trip in Aruba.

Aruba is quite possibly the perfect location for sailing and snorkeling . Aruba has pristine crystal clear water, an abundance of marine life, and gentle trade winds – which makes sailing in Aruba an absolute pleasure.

The Best Aruba Sunset Cruises

Sunset cruises in Aruba are a gratifying and memorable experience. The serene Caribbean waters create a stunning backdrop as the golden sun dips below the horizon. The gentle sea breeze, soothing waves, and vibrant colors paint a picturesque scene.

Whether aboard a luxurious catamaran or a romantic sailboat, these cruises offer a relaxed atmosphere to unwind, sip on tropical cocktails, and savor delicious cuisine. The mesmerizing sunset views and the possibility of spotting marine life, such as dolphins or sea turtles, add a touch of magic to the experience.

It’s a perfect way to create lasting memories and embrace the beauty of Aruba’s coastal paradise!

The Happy Hour Sunset Cruise in Noord

The Happy Hour Sunset Cruise in Noord is a great way to take in the stunning coastline of Aruba while relaxing on a catamaran. With large lounge seats and plenty of space, the Octopus catamaran is a beautiful boat skippered by a highly skilled captain and crew. The friendly staff serves a full range of cocktails on board and a selection of snacks and baked bread. As you may know, the Caribbean Sea sparkles with aqua blue, which helps create a most memorable setting in the evening. You can enjoy a ‘front row seat’ to see the California Lighthouse and unobstructed ocean views.

Whether you go with friends or a loved one, this sunset cruise is popular in Noord. Aside from the views, you can expect a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable setting and the perfect opportunity to wind down at the end of the day. What’s more, online reviews often cite the staff as very likable and friendly so you should be in good company whether you go with friends or not. This is also an alternative thing to do in Aruba after sunset, which might make a nice change from spending the early evening in one of the bars or restaurants in town.

2-Hour Sunset Cruise

This sunset cruise takes place on a stunning catamaran with a sun deck and comfortable cabin area. With this in mind, you can relax on deck with the breeze running through or put your feet up below. This 2-hour excursion is one of the more relaxing things to do in Aruba and is even better with the range of drinks and snacks on board. From fruity cocktails and sodas to wine and beer, you can take your pick, and the staff also hands out a selection of light snacks during the trip. This friendly crew is also noted in online reviews as friendly, helpful, and entertaining.

But why else might you want to take a boat trip after sunset? Well, you will have unobstructed views of the sunset and the perfect vantage point from which to admire the stunning coastline of Aruba. The colors at sunset are nothing short of spectacular in this part of the world, so you can expect a magical experience despite the short time that you spend on board. There is also some music on the catamaran, so you can choose to take it easy or enjoy a little dance on deck, but either way, this sunset cruise will surely be one of the highlights of your trip to Aruba!

The ‘Adventure Catamaran’ Cruise

Looking for an activity with the kids when the sun goes down? This sunset cruise is one of the best things to do for families. The Dolphin is an “adventure catamaran” with many amenities and a trampoline. This catamaran has a rope swing, water slide, and lots of space for everyone to move around. For parents wanting to take in a spectacular sunset, this cruise is a great way to keep the kids entertained. You are even free to jump into the ocean for a swim during the trip, and with local music playing on the boat, you can also expect a feel-good atmosphere.

With a large sunroof, plenty of light is on board, and the seating areas are very comfortable. As for the bar, you can expect a full range of cocktails, beverages, and light snacks to quell the hunger. The friendly staff ensures everyone is safe and having a good time, and many past guests cite this cruise as excellent value for money! It’s an unforgettable experience that combines the joy of sliding and the adventure of sailing, making memories that will make you smile long after the sun sets!

A Private Sunset Cruise

If you would like to take a private sunset cruise in Aruba, the ‘Chubasco’ is a stunning boat that will leave you with unforgettable memories. At 50 feet in length, you can expect much space on board, and the deck and seating area is very comfortable. The Chubasco is also attached to a slice of history because it was built in the same yard as “The Kennedy’s” (JFK) boat, and the crew is always happy to relay this story to their guests. Peter and Mike seem to know absolutely everything about the island, which can make this one of the more informative cruises.

After leaving the pier, your private sunset cruise will take you out to sea, and staff will offer up a selection of cocktails and snacks from which to choose. The colors at this time of evening are breathtaking, and you will see unobstructed views of the Aruba coastline. This cruise also offers a nice mix of relaxation and entertainment, and you will return to land with many more photographs and memories of your Caribbean trip. Finally, the Chubasco is a fantastic boat, and with such an attentive crew, this is one of the best things to do after sunset in Aruba for couples, friends, and families alike.

A ‘Havana-Styled’ Sunset Cruise

What could be more interesting than taking a Havana-themed sunset cruise in Aruba? The luxurious catamaran features comfortable seating, an experienced crew, and a spacious deck. You should hear salsa music on arrival, and the cocktail list includes an especially nice mojito. The crew members know how to salsa so that you can learn a few moves on board, but the highlight of this activity after the sun goes down is often the stunning scenery.

It’s a great way to get unobstructed views of the horizon and the rugged coastline nearby. Don’t worry; you can sit back and enjoy the scenes if you don’t want to dance. With this in mind, a Havana-styled cruise is an exciting option among the sunset cruises as it promises fun and character at every turn. You can even enjoy some Cuban snacks on board, and the staff goes to great lengths to ensure everyone is comfortable. As for those who might like to join this trip, the Havana-themed cruise is suitable for friends, families, couples, and anyone who wants to do something different after the sun goes down!

Cuban cigars not included 🙂

Bon Voyage!

Hopefully, you will wave goodbye to worries and say hello to an incredible journey! Have a fantastic time on your sunset cruise in Aruba, where you’ll make unforgettable memories and witness a sunset that will make your heart skip a beat.

On the Water in Aruba

The turquoise water of Aruba’s southern Caribbean sea embraces our happy island like a hug.

Kite & Windsurfing in Aruba

Aruba's constant trade winds, extensive shallows, and challenging wave conditions make Aruba a surfer’s paradise.

One of the most breathtaking perspectives of our island is the view of our stunning beaches from the sea as you sail along our coastline. Aruba’s Palm Beach harbors over a dozen catamarans and sailboats offering cruises that showcase gorgeous scenery set against the turquoise canvas of the Caribbean Sea. You can take advantage of several unique sailing excursions, including snorkel cruises, sunset sails, booze cruises, and dinner cruises. Most of these excursions feature an open bar (try our Aruba Ariba cocktail!) as well as lunch, snacks, or dinner depending on the time and duration of the cruise.

One of the most unique Caribbean sailing adventures is the sunset cruise Aruba is so fond of. Now don’t get us wrong, sailing in Aruba is an amazing experience at any time of day, but being on a Caribbean sailing cruise as the sun sets and the sky turns pink, purple and orange is absolutely breathtaking. You’ll have the best seat in the house for this amazing sunset show Mother Nature offers every evening. You haven’t experienced sailing until you’ve tried Aruba sailing.

If you are looking to test out your own sailing skills, Hobie Cats are available for rent, and some watersports operators offer lessons.

The yearly Aruba International Regatta features competitors sailing in from neighboring islands to compete in categories ranging from yachts to Sunfish. As a spectator, it’s great fun to get caught up in the excitement and the fabulous beach parties surrounding the three-day event.

10 Tips for Visiting Aruba: A Beautiful But Expensive Island

Welcome to our guide on the 10 essential tips you need to know before visiting Aruba! We are Alison & Tyler Hulsey, aka @alisonandtylertravels . We are born and raised “Seattleites” from Washington State, USA.

We started dating in 2011 while in high school. We spent half our teen years together, and went to college at Washington State University together (Go Cougs)! Then, moving into our adult years, we both worked in the tech space in Seattle for five years before our travel adventure began.

But how did we decide to quit our jobs, break our apartment lease and pack up our bags to travel the world?? Well, let us explain! Tyler has always had a passion for exploring the world, aka the “travel bug”. He did mission trips when he was young with his family to Honduras and Nicaragua, vacationed in Costa Rica and took a campervan through Australia.

I myself (Alison) grew up going to a popular lake near Seattle, went to Mexico a couple of times and did a couple of cruises with my family. However, I didn’t quite know about the rest of the world. After college, Tyler went on a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia with a couple of his friends. And together, we took vacations to Belize and the Philippines.

This is what finally opened my eyes to the world of travel. If I am being honest, it was the Philippines that did it. It was the most magical place I had ever been to. I knew there had to be more out there like it.

Fast forward to 2019, Tyler had a random crazy idea while sitting at his corporate job – to quit our jobs and travel the world (see screenshot below from Tyler). I played it cool but also thought it was a crazy idea. We had never met anyone do this before, ever. But Tyler believed in this dream.

Aruba

So, of course, the pandemic hit and pushed out our dreams a bit. But come May 2022, we did it! We broke our lease, put all of our belongings in storage and quit our jobs! It was time for our one-way ticket to travel the world. Originally, we planned to go for six months but then six months quickly turned into two years (and to this day, we have been to 41 countries since we quit)! It was absolutely the best decision we have ever made.

Tips Aruba

Our Experience Visiting Aruba

After spending a month in Brazil, we felt that we had conquered our bucket-list countries in South America: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. So, it was time to head to Central America. However, we noticed there were direct flights to Aruba from Manaus (in the Amazon) which is where we ended our time in Brazil.

So, with our Chase Sapphire Card , we were able to use travel points to fly from Brazil to Aruba! It was essentially a free flight to Aruba! We decided to spend one week in Aruba before heading to Panama. So it’s safe to say that visiting Aruba was a last-minute spontaneous decision !

Though Aruba was a very expensive island for backpackers, it was a beautiful experience. It lived up to our expectations in terms of weather, beaches and marine life. However, it was touristy, expensive and had a lack of culture (in our opinion). We were hoping to see a bit more local vibes.

However, on our last night, we went to the main city of Oranjestad which had more of a local atmosphere that we enjoyed – compared to the more touristy area of Palm Beach, where we spent the majority of our week.

sunset cruise palm beach aruba

Favorite Place in Aruba: Eagle Beach

We loved the atmosphere of the Eagle Beach area because the beach had chill vibes and a stunning sunset. Palm Beach was lovely too but it was more about the high rises and resorts. You won’t find that at Eagle Beach. It also was easy to hop on the bus at Palm Beach and take it to Eagle Beach, or there is a nice boardwalk where you could rent an e-scooter or bike! Below are some more tips for Aruba to help you have a memorable trip.

10 Tips for Visiting Aruba

1. utilize your travel points if you can.

Use travel points to get to Aruba, like we did with our Chase Sapphire Card . Our flight was all points! This made budgeting for an expensive place like Aruba easier and meant we had more spending money.

sunset cruise palm beach aruba

2. Budget for an Expensive Destination

There’s no getting around the fact that Aruba is an expensive place to visit, so make sure you budget accordingly. Things like accommodation, food, tours, etc. are pricey on the island. This is the most important of the Aruba tips to keep in mind. But also, don’t let that put you off coming!

3. Take Advantage of the Buses/Shuttles

In Aruba, Uber services are unavailable, but you can rely on the island’s efficient bus and shuttle system for transportation – costing just $2.50 per person, offering an affordable and convenient way to get around.

4. Book an Airbnb for Aruba

Next on our list of tips for Aruba is around accommodations. Booking Airbnbs are a much better option than resorts in our opinion. Our Airbnb near Palm Beach included a full kitchen, bathroom, patio, etc. And it was only $70 per night. The host also provided beach chairs and a cooler for the beach. When we moved to the city, we stayed at Kamerlingh Villa ($60 per night) and it had a beautiful pool that we enjoyed using. It was also a nice walking distance to the main town.

Tips Aruba

5. Pack a Reusable Water Bottle

Aruba has some of the best water in the world. Bring a reusable water bottle. There are refill stations everywhere: beaches, restaurants and basically any sink you can find. It was so incredible, especially coming from South America for many months where the tap water was not drinkable.

6. Buy Groceries to Cook Meals

Buy groceries, rather than eating out. We made breakfast every single day (eggs, bagels, fruit, etc). And we even made lunch many times as well. For dinner, we tried our best to find cheaper restaurant options.

7. Purchase Beer or Wine at the Store

We enjoyed bringing a couple cans of beer to the beach during sunset or having a glass of wine before walking to dinner, rather than paying for expensive drinks while we were out! This is another great money saver.

Tips Aruba

8. Book Tours Through GetYourGuide

For your experiences, be sure to book your tours through GetYourGuide instead of booking through the beach operators. It can oftentimes be cheaper. We booked a fun Aruba Sailing Trip and Scuba Diving .

Sailing Trip

9. Bring Your Own Beach Chairs and Cooler

When visiting the beaches of Aruba, one of the best tips is to bring your own beach chairs and a cooler for the day. We were lucky that our Airbnb host provided this for us which was cheaper than renting chairs.

10. Go Diving and/or Snorkeling in Aruba

Do not miss out on the chance to see the marine life. The water visibility was beautiful, and we saw so many sea turtles and beautiful fish during our diving experience. Diving is one of the best things to do in Aruba.

Best Areas to Stay at in Aruba

Try to book near Eagle Beach . It was completely booked around the area (for our budget) when we checked, so we couldn’t stay there. Another nice option is staying in Palm Beach. We stayed in an Airbnb 10-15 minutes from the beach. We also stayed in Oranjestad for our last night to be closer to the airport. We wish we had a couple more nights in the city. So, all in all, I would split your time between Eagle Beach or Palm Beach and Oranjestad.

Restaurant/Bar Recommendations

  • Rum Reef Cocktail Bar & Grill: They have a free infinity pool to use if you buy a drink or some food! It’s located right by Baby Beach.
  • Che Bar: Cheap empanadas and drinks are the offerings at Che Bar. It would have to be one of the cheapest places to eat in Palm Beach.
  • Silla Bar: Authentic Caribbean food for a good price such as plantains.

Final Thoughts on Aruba

Looking back on our trip to Aruba, there were definitely a few moments that stood out. Firstly, at Tres Trapi where we saw the clearest blue waters on Earth! Baby Beach was another highlight, boasting a stunning beach to hangout at. Then there was the scuba diving and sailing trip . Seeing sea turtles was amazing! Thanks for reading our travel tips on Aruba!

Originally I planned this trip solo, my sister ended up being able to spend a few days with me so that was fun too! This is a long trip report, hope that it helps others. I felt like I was able to see a lot but wasn’t able to see everything. I love snorkeling and looking at the ocean but I’m not a lying on the beach person. Give me a good pool overlooking the ocean and I’m happy.

Scroll down to find more detailed reviews. Hotel review is at the very bottom. I also posted the hotel and restaurant reviews individually.

After a several hour delay, finally landed in Aruba. Grabbed my bag and headed to Budget to get my rental car . Raced outta the airport and through a bunch of roundabouts (haven’t seen a traffic light yet… hmmm different)… the jeep rental at the hotel closed at 5pm and I needed to get there… my sister thankfully had all the paperwork ready.. so thankful the lady stayed late.. I got there at 5:15pm. Whew that was stressful.

*Dinner at Ruinas Del Mar overlooking the koi pond. NY steak for the win… plus my surprise for my sister…I didn’t see her when she turned 50 in December- so I’m celebrating her birthday everywhere we go! The lava cake was excellent as was the steak and the service (highly recommend).

Arikok National Park -first nature preserve and national park in Aruba.

$20 p.p. (Up to 17 years free)

No senior discount

Guided hikes with a Ranger can be booked 3-4 days before. Their website is very new and there were lots of quirks. I suggest calling them directly.

Visitor center had Bathrooms, small coffee shop, and two areas with info about the park.

Conchi Natural Pool - you MUST have a 4x4 vehicle to get there!! Cannot stress this enough.

Rented a jeep for the day. So glad we did this. There’s no way we would have made it to Conchi without 4x4!

=Boca Prins Dunes - sand dunes (do not drive on the sand dunes!)

=Boca Prins - gorgeous bay, 1,000 years ago this bay was much further inland. We saw many imprints of previous sea life while walking from the parking lot to the bay.

=Quadirikiri Cave - limestone cave with bats in it.

=Fontein Cave - limestone cave with Indian pictographs dating back 1,000 years. There’s also a pond here with tiny fish that will tickle your feet while removing dead skin.

=Conchi (natural pool) - made of ancient lava stone surrounded by rough seas. Bring your water shoes, it’s a bit rocky getting out to the water. There was a ranger there helping people in/out of the water.

Now for the story….. while at Conchi we met these 4 ladies from Colorado that were celebrating a 50th birthday too. We found out they had hiked over 2 hours to get from where they parked their car to Conchi. Needless to say they were exhausted and asked if we could drive them back to their car . Of course we did! So began the real 4x4 adventure- going up the hills the inclines were pretty steep and rocky (did I mention I’ve never driven a 4x4 before? Yep)…. Jammed 4 of them in the back seat of the jeep and got them back to their car .. and had lots of laughs along the way.

_____not part of the national park____

*Ayo Rock Formations - monolithic boulders. The Arawak (earliest settlers on the island) used to visit Ayo Rock Formations so they could hear incoming thunderstorms closing in on the island of Aruba. They also carved paintings on the rocks.

*California Lighthouse - The lighthouse was named after the S.S. California - which sunk previous to its construction in 1910. 360 degree views of the island.

*Dinner Faro Blanco - had a lovely dinner here and watched the sunset. Good Italian food. Reservations are required. NOTE: don’t know why people think it’s ok to take photos in front of/next to other peoples table while they are trying to enjoy dinner??? Walk outside the restaurant to the side of the building there’s a dirt lot where you can take all the sunset pics you want without bothering others during their dinner. (had to say it) this young couple had the sunset spot for dinner, I felt bad that so many people kept interrupting their meal.

*Drift snorkeling at Mangel Halto

So glad I didn’t attempt this alone. My snorkel sister came along. Basically you park your car at the beach and walk a few blocks down the road to a road without a name. Basically you’re walking behind peoples homes to a small pier. Left our shoes there and jumped in. Swam out past the breakwater rocks and there’s the reef.

Saw so many fish and corals. You drift with the current just past the mangroves ending at Mangel Halto beach . This is NOT a snorkel for beginners or young children.

*chilling by the pool at Hyatt Regency Aruba for the rest of the day.

*Sunset at Eagle Beach between the Fofoti and Divi trees - watch out so many people come here for the sunset. There’s signs that say not to sit or hang on the trees and omg so many people were doing just that. Please respect the trees!!

*Dinner at Dutch pancake house - we decided to try out for dinner, why not have pancakes for dinner. Pancakes were yummy and the service was good.

*Palms beachside Grill - Breakfast buffet is served here each morning along with a La cart items. Lunch and dinner are also available. We ate breakfast here one morning, excellent fruit pancakes!

*Donkey Sanctuary - I recommend you do this in the morning before it gets hot. Located inland on the island. You can purchase feed for the donkeys and walk around feeding them. They also have peacocks, chickens, and roosters. Small gift shop sells donkey souvenirs.

*Dropped my sister off at the airport

*Dutch Windmill - looks kind of run down, it wasn’t open but I did take some quick pictures of the outside.

*Dinner at Papiamento - very good although as a solo traveler, being seated right next to the kitchen where wait-staff tripped/bumped into my table all night wasn’t the best scenario. You can walk through the house it’s like a museum, with lots of antiques.

*Tres Trapi snorkeling with green turtles - i did this solo and I always bring my swimming buoy with me. I got there around 8:15am and there were people already in the water. Made some new friends and snorkeled out. It’s not hard to do… it’s not very deep. You get out to where the sea grass is and there’s the green turtles doing their thing. So beautiful..majestic DO NOT touch the turtles!

*Murals of Saint Nicolas - the lesser traveled end of the island, very cute town center with shops, restaurants. The star of the show here is the beautiful murals. You can stop by the visitor center and pick up a map that gives the locations of all the murals. Really well done.

*Baby beach - on the way there you might see the wild donkeys out in the street. Folks will stop and feed them from their cars . Not sure it’s a good idea to feed wild animals though. I didn’t but watched several folks feed them. There’s two large parking lots, the first lot is by Rum Reef Bar & Grill, if you continue driving past you’ll come to the second lot by Big Mama Grill. You can rent chairs/umbrellas here. This is a lovely beach and it’s quite popular now. They’re building a resort behind the 2nd parking lot up on the hillside.. it’s unfortunately going to get much more crowded in the future.

*Red Anchor honoring all seamen - you’ll see this on the way to baby beach near Bachelor’s beach.

*Santa Anna Cemetary - everyone is buried above ground, reminded me of New Orleans.

*Shopping for souvenirs - J. E. Irausquin Blvd near intersection of Palm Beach are tons of shops and restaurants. In the evening lots of folks walking around as it’s cooler out.

*Gelatissimo - the best gelato

*Aruba Downtown Walking Tours (bookaruba dot com)- highly recommended. Fun to walk around downtown, learning the history of the island. Also had Pastechi filled with Gouda cheese at Pasabocas Cosas Ricas.

*Dinner at Wilhelmina Restaurant - best meal I had on the island. Reservations are required, make them early as this is a popular spot. Located in downtown Oranjestad , seating is on a lovely patio shaded by palm trees.

I had the Gorgonzola salad, simply truffle (homemade pasta with creamy truffle and mushroom sauce), and Wilhelmina’s cheesecake topped with fruit for dessert. The service and food were excellent!

*Aruba National Archeological Museum

*Fly home - important for US folks: you go through both Aruba and USA customs at the Aruba airport. You want to arrive at least 3 hours BEFORE your flight especially on the weekends (Fri-Mon). I have global entry, it took me 30 minutes to get through on a Thursday. It took my sister 2 hrs without global entry on a Monday.

Hotel Review

Hyatt Regency Aruba (April 2024) 6 nights

I know a lot of folks really like this property. The facilities (pool, beach, etc) are nice as is the location. The rooms and service not so much….

My flight was delayed - I arrived at 5pm and went to the registration desk and explained there were 2 cribs in the room they gave us and reminded them we were celebrating a 50th birthday… something I had emailed to the hotel twice prior to arrival. After some back and forth, they moved us to the 9th floor. The view was nice, just wish they would have given us the right room from the start without making me feel like I had to pull teeth. Other than the lounge access being a globalist doesn’t get you much here.

Small room, clean, with view of the adult pool (trankilo pool) and the ocean! Gorgeous ocean to look at kind of makes up for the room being meh.

Bathroom was small with single sink vanity and tub/shower combo, which I hate.

Small round table with 2 chairs - two chairs were way too large for the space. Constantly having to move the chairs around between accessing the Juliet balcony or the bed.

AC worked great. Turn down service most of the nights there and they constantly replenished the bottled water.

Each floor had a water and ice dispenser. Handy to pass by and fill up your water bottle on the way to the elevator. Also ice and water machines located at both of the pools.

Facilities:

Adult pool - lovely with infinity edge overlooking the beach/ocean.

Note: umbrellas do not really provide shade… they are creme color with mesh material that doesn’t really block the strong sun rays. The area with palm trees does provide shade (the palm trees provide the shade) but only the middle rows.

No rafts or inflatables allowed in the adult pool… I have a mostly mesh float that I like to sit in while in the pool, bummer that I couldn’t use it in the adult pool.

Pool food/drink service very good but as the afternoon pushes on it’s harder to get someone to take your order. Nice feature on the lounge chairs they have a flag you can put up when you want service.

Very spread out into two different mini-pools that are somewhat connected. There’s a swim up bar, Water slide, volleyball net in the pool. There’s not nearly enough loungers/chairs/umbrellas for the amount of guests. You absolutely need to prebook your lounger in advance (Hyattbeachservices dot com).

Lovely stretch of beach with loungers and palapa’s/umbrellas.

Lounge Chair Reservations- when you make a reservation for a lounger at the pool or beach, make sure you check in at the towel hut BEFORE 11am. At 11am if you have not claimed your lounger, your reservation is removed and someone else will be waiting to take your spot. At the adult pool we never had any problems getting a lounger in the afternoon without a reservation. The family pool is much more crowded and you may not be so lucky.

Regency Club Lounge:

Indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast was a great variety of hot and cold items with the hot items rotating. Throughout the day you can stop in for ice/water, soda, cookies, nuts. Hot and cold appetizers and desserts served in the early evening 5-7pm.

Lounge ladies I only got a few of their names but all of them were so helpful and kind - thank you Ligia, Fanny, and

Dayrienne! Great restaurant suggestions and even called and made reservations for me. The only staff that really went out of their way for me were these ladies in the lounge and the gal at Top Drive ( car rental at the Hyatt).

Small non-smoking casino located on the premises. I expected it would be some obnoxious smoke-filled casino and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was quite nice.

Palms Beach Bar:

Had a few drinks here along with chips and guacamole.

Coffee Bar & Market:

Small shop with sandwiches/coffee and some market sundries.

Free self-parking across the street from the hotel. Valet parking is available $15 day.

Fitness Center:

Located down a flight of stairs on the first floor. On the small side but didn’t seem very busy when I stopped by.

Pickleball and Tennis Courts are located on the side of the parking lot across the street from the hotel. They do have lighting so you can use at night.

What a thorough trip report! You really put a lot of work into it - thank you for sharing. Glad you had a great experience!

I was at Baby Beach in 1995 and 2001 and thought it being ruined by tourists standing on the reef and crowding the area. Glad it's unspoiled, based on your experience.
