Beginning this guided tour of Krabi , you can take small walk in the city itself, in order to discover the main monuments.

What are the things to see in Krabi?

1) Wat Kaew Ko Wararam: a pretty, white temple (not to be confused with Chiang Rai temple) which has a staircase decorated with dragon sculptures. Inside, you can admire a golden Buddha.

The temple is located in the heart of the city, on Maharaj street. Entry is free.

2) Andaman Art Museum, which opened just recently, opposite the Wat Kaew. This contemporary art museum houses a collection of paintings and sculptures by Thai and international artists.

3) Krabi market: a local and not really a touristy market where you can eat pocket friendly food. A Pad Thai costs barely 40 Bahts and you can end up with fresh fruit at 20 Bahts, all accompanied by a 30 Baht coconut water. Less than 100 Bahts for the meal, dessert and drink!

It is also located on Maharaj street.

4) Krabi Weekend Night Market: the Krabi Town night market is located towards the Chao Fah pier on Maharaj 8 Alley street. From Friday to Sunday evening, you can try delicious Thai cuisine sold in the numerous street stands.

There are also dance and music shows.

5) Khao Kanab Nam: these 2 karst rocks shaped like crab pincers and 100 metres tall have become the symbol of the city.

You can admire them from the river in Krabi Town or even go by long tail boat (the typical Thai boats). The boats leave from Chao Fah quay and the crossing takes just 15 minutes.

Exploring the 2 rock formations is usually combined with a visit to the caves just nearby (entrance at 30 Bahts) and a passage through the mangrove . You will end the tour with a stop at a fish farm in the fishing village of Ko Klang.

The ride lasts 2 hours and costs between 450 and 600 Bahts for the boat. The more people with you, the less you will pay.

Krabi

The Tiger Temple or Tiger Cave Temple is one of the main places of interest to visit in Krabi.

It is located less than 12 km from the city centre.

Built on top of a hill, the upper part of the temple is accessible via a staircase that has no less than 1,237 steps to be precise. And to top it all off, the staircase is really very steep, which makes the climb akin to a sports activity. Take your time, bring some water and all will be well!

At the top, if the weather is clear, you can enjoy a 360° view of the whole province. If it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Krabi despite the arduous climb, it’s indeed worth it!

The round-trip takes between 1h and 1h30.

On the site, on the right side before the stairs to climb the temple, you can also take a walk in the part called “Wonderland”. To reach it, you will also have to go through a staircase but much smaller than the one that leads to the top.

You can also see the “Tiger cave”, the cave after which the temple is named. Tiger paw prints were found there, which led to believe that a tiger lived there.

During the 30 minute walk through the jungle you can also admire some very large trees.

Practical information: entry to the temple is free . Ladies, remember to bring something to cover your shoulders and legs with you.

There are several bars, restaurants, shops and toilets all around and inside the hotel.

To get to the Tiger Cave Temple from Krabi Town , you have to take the red song thaew (shared taxi). They leave from Utarakit street but you can hail them on the road and they will stop if they are not full.

You also have the option of a tuk tuk or a taxi, but it will be more expensive.

The last possibility is to book a trip including the visit of the temple and exploring Krabi Town and the market. You will find all the information about this trip to Krabi with driver by clicking here!

temple du tigre Krabi

Ao Nang is one of the must-see spots during a stay in Krabi.

It is the province’s main seaside resorts. Here you can find the beaches closest to the centre, about 20 km away.

Many people choose to stay there to be near the sea rather than in the city.

The Ao Nang area has several beautiful beaches:

  • Ao Nang Beach: a large sandy beach bordered by numerous bars, restaurants and tour desks. All the tourist activities of Krabi and the surrounding area are concentrated there. This is where you can take the boat to Railay (I’ll tell you a bit more about that in this article).
  • Noppharat Thara Beach: another big beach with fewer people than Ao Nang. Also very pretty and wilder. However, there are no boats leaving from this beach.
  • The Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas beach in a protected bay. To reach there, you have take a staircase and a path through a forest that begins at the end of Ao Nang beach. Alternatively, you can rent a kayak to get there. There aren’t a lot of people here apart from the hotel guests.

If you are staying in Ao Nang during your trip to Thailand , it is also the best way to visit the surrounding islands. All tour operators offer trips to Koh Phi Phi, the Hong Islands or the 4 islands with departure from Ao Nang Beach.

I will give you the details for all these trips in the rest of this article.

Ao Nang is also famous for its beautiful sunset . If you are spending some time in the area, you can admire it from the beach, but if you want to change it up a little and do a nice activity, you must book a cruise at dusk.

The cruise, which begins in the early afternoon, offers several snorkelling stops before ending with a dinner at sunset on the islands of the Andaman Sea.

The rate includes cruise, meals, soft drinks and unlimited fruit, as well as snorkelling equipment.

To book your cruise at sunset, just click on the button below:

Just a few miles from Ao Nang is Fossil Shell Beach, a fossil shell a seashell graveyard on the beach.

After reading this, you may want to go there, but in reality there isn’ t much to see except a few mineral slabs (strongly resembling concrete slabs) with embedded fossils.

Ao-Nang

Railay is one of the places you must absolutely see in the province of Krabi.

To get to Railay, you have to take the boat from Ao Nang Beach . You do not need to book your trip in advance. Just go there and buy your ticket directly at the shack by the beach.

The fare is 200 Bahts per person for a boat trip of less than 10 minutes.

Once you get to Railay, you will quickly realise that this is one of the most beautiful places to go to the beach in Krabi . The setting is truly heavenly! However, don’t expect to be alone, there are a lot of people.

What are the things to see in Railay, Krabi province:

1) Railay West Beach: this beach is where you will arrive by boat, half of the beach is reserved for disembarking from boats.

Flanked by large karst cliffs, this large beach with fine sands is really very pretty. You can swim, sunbathe and rent kayaks and paddle boats.

2) Railay East Beach: this beach is not really suitable for swimming, especially at low tide. Rather, it is used for boats that disembark and board people staying at nearby hotels. To the left is a small, quiet beach that is easily accessible.

3) Between the beach of Railay West and that of Railay East , there is a small tourist village that has several restaurants, shops, hotels and tour and information offices.

4) The Phra Nang Nai Cellar: a cave that can be visited for 200 Bahts but frankly, it is not interesting.

5) Railay view point: to get there, you will have to make a very steep climb with ropes for about 20 minutes. If you don’t have sneakers, it is better to go bare foot than flip-flops: it’s muddy and slippery.

The view from the top will be worth the effort!

You can then continue the walk by going to the Princess Lagoon, a crater filled with water with a small cave on the side. The descent to get there is a bit difficult and even requires a bit of climbing at the end.

You’re going to Krabi?

You probably know it: the hardest part of planning your trip is to find an hotel offering a good value for money!

The closer you get to your travel dates, the harder it will be to get a good deal. Lots of people will be visiting Krabi on the same dates as you , so you can be sure that the best deals are booked extremely quickly!

Hopefully, there is a pretty simple solution to this problem: do like me and book your hotel as early as possible!

So, my best advice is to take 5 minutes (now) to have a look at the list of travelers’ favorite hotels in Krabi.

And if you see a good offer, book it!

Most hotels offer free cancellation, so it’s quick, easy, and you will avoid the the inconvenience of finding nothing but mediocre rooms at exorbitant prices.

To check the current best deals for your hotel in Krabi, simply click on the green button below 😎:

Once you’ve booked your hotel, it will be time to continue reading this guide and find out more about the best things to do in Krabi!

Railay beach

6) Phra Nang Beach: clearly the most beautiful beach in Railay, the place is truly superb, a postcard-worthy vista! This is one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen on my tour in Thailand.

On the left, at very the end, you can go and see the Phra Nang Cave. Legend has it that the cave is inhabited by the spirit of a princess whose boat ran aground here after a big storm. The Thai fishermen come here to lay down wooden phalluses so that the princess will grant them an abundant bounty of fish.

If you cross the cave and go across the rocks, there’s a small view point.

On the opposite side of Ao Nang Cave , at the end of the beach, you can also take a path that climbs up to a large cave.

However, you will need a flashlight to explore it, as the place is not developed at all. It is not possible to continue the path further and go down the other side on Railay West Beach , unless you have climbing equipment.

And talking about climbing, this is one of the main reasons why people come to spend some time in Railay. The peninsula is known for its approximately 700 climbing routes.

Whether you are a beginner or a veteran climber, you will have plenty to do in Railay. You can choose to take a course lasting a few hours or even one lasting several days.

To book a 4-hour climbing course in Railay , please click on the button below.

Rates include pick-up at your hotel in Krabi, Ao Nang or Railay, an experienced instructor and equipment rental.

The guide is very nice and you can do this activity safely with equipment that meets international standards.

If you are looking for a beautiful beach with fewer people, I recommend going to Tonsai Beach. It is located between Ao Nang beach and Railay West beach.

Krabi Railay Plage

Did you visit Krabi Town? You have explored the nearby beaches and you don’t know what to do in Krabi anymore?

Now you can discover the most beautiful islands in the area through boat trips.

One of the most famous is the one that takes you to 4 small islands near Krabi:

  • Koh Kai, nicknamed Chicken Island because of its chicken-shaped rock formation
  • Phra Nang Cave (in Railay)

Departures every morning from Ao Nang beach. A boat will pick you up and take you around the 4 islands , stopping at each one so that you can swim and go snorkelling.

The price includes pick-up from of your hotel, one-day boat rental, diving equipment, lunch and as much water as needed.

You can book this one-day boat trip by clicking on the button below:

The trip I’ve just mentioned involves a boat, but if you wish, you can also make this trip in longtail boats, the traditional Thai boats.

You can reserve it by clicking here!

Finally, if you prefer to visit the 4 islands around Krabi in the afternoon (departure around 1.30pm) in order to watch the sunset afterwards, this is the trip you need (click here)!

Koh Poda

Another unmissable trip from Krabi and Ao Nang is the one-day trip to Koh Phi Phi.

If you haven’t already visited this island during your Thai itinerary, then now the time!

The island of Koh Phi Phi is famous worldwide for the famous Maya Bay beach where a part of the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo di Caprio was shot.

Unfortunately, the fame spread so much that every day dozens of boats and thousands of people came to the beach. This influx was disastrous for the ecosystem and corals, which were severely damaged.

The beach was therefore closed down completely for several years (and even today the authorities can decide to close it a few months a the year to protect it). And even you are able to go there during your visit, it is now forbidden to swim there.

Rest assured though, you will still have the opportunity to admire it from the boat!

In addition to Maya Bay, the trip includes:

  • Snorkelling in Hin Klang Reef
  • A visit to the Viking cave with its murals
  • Snorkelling in the Pileh lagoon
  • A trip through the Bay of Monkeys
  • Lunch on Phi Phi Don Island
  • A relaxing break on the Bamboo Island beach

To book this trip to Koh Phi Phi, you can just click the button:

If you are going to Krabi for a short time , you can also book a trip to discover Koh Phi Phi + the 4 islands mentioned above (Koh Poda, Koh Tup, Chicken Island and Phra Nang Cave).

This is a 2-in-1 trip, and is very convenient to see everything in 1 day instead of 2.

Koh Phi Phi

Last boat trip available to you during your stay in Krabi: explore the Hong Islands.

Embark on a day of total relaxation with only snorkelling and swimming in the turquoise water on the agenda.

The round-trips from your hotel, the day-trip in a boat, diving equipment, lunch and guide expenses are included in the price.

To book this amazing trip, just click on the following button:

This boat trip to the Hong Islands from Krabi is also available with an afternoon departure to enjoy a barbecue on the beach at sunset.

Koh yao Noi 4 Iles

Here is another idea for a day trip from Krabi, but this time on land: the emerald pool and the hot springs.

Located some fifty km from Krabi, the Emerald Pool (Sa Morakot in Thai) is one of the most popular tourist sites in Krabi. It is frequented by both tourists and Thai people, who love to come here with their families on weekends.

The swimming pool is actually a natural pool where you can swim in spring water with an incredible emerald green colour. On the site, in addition to the swimming area, you can also take the paths and go to another natural swimming pool: the Blue Pool (swimming not allowed).

From the car park, you have to walk a little less than 1 km to reach the emerald swimming pool. The entrance to the nature reserve costs 200 Bahts per person.

As there is no public transport to get there, it is best to either rent a scooter or go on an organised tour.

If you choose the latter option, the trip, in addition to the Emerald Pool, can also take you to the hot springs fed by a waterfall with water at 40°.

You will finish the day at the Tiger Temple, which I mentioned at the beginning of this article.

To book this trip at the Emerald Pool + Hot Springs + Tiger Cave , just click the button:

Emerald Pool Krabi

For a change from the long sandy beaches and islands, I recommend that you go for a ride in the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park during your holiday in Krabi.

It is just 20 km north of the city .

The park is the ideal place to go hiking in Krabi. It has several paths to walk through the jungle and observe the fauna and flora.

Also another unmissable spot is the Huay Toh waterfall , which has several levels and where the main waterfall is 230 feet high. You can even take a dip!

To go to Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, you will have to rent a scooter, a car or book a tuk tuk or a taxi for the day.

Entrance to the park is 200 Bahts per person + 20 Bahts for scooter.

Parc national Khao Phanom Bencha

Visiting Krabi is also about enjoying nature.

If you enjoy hiking , in addition to Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, you can also do the Tab Kak Hang Nak Nature Trail.

The 3.7 km path leads up to the summit and affords a panoramic view of Krabi province and the islands.

This trail is rather gruelling , so don’t wear flip-flops. Sneakers or even hiking shoes are mandatory to climb the stony trail. And remember to bring enough water.

It takes about 2 hours to reach the summit.

Entry to the site is free but the rangers who welcome you and give you some explanations will appreciate it if you leave a tip.

There is also no public transport to reach the beginning of the trail. From Krabi (40 km away), you can take a scooter, car, tuk tuk or taxi.

The time taken to get there, go up, take photos, climb down and return to Krabi, is more or less one day.

Tab Kak Hang Nak Nature Trail

If you’re tired of basking on the beach, you can do several sports activities in Krabi (click on the orange links to book):

  • Ziplines and tree-climbing . The Ao Nang Fiore Zipline Adventure offers 2 different options: one for beginners and/or families and one more complicated. Book here!
  • Sea kayaking in the Thalane mangrove where you can observe crabs, herons and monkeys. If you want to go kayaking in Krabi, you can book your activity here.
  • Quad biking.   The route takes you right through the rainforest.
  • Several tours even offer a combination of quad bikes with kayaking, which allows you to do 2 activities in the same day. To make sure you go through a reliable agency, you can book this activity here.
  • A horse ride on the beach is an option for a romantic activity in Krabi!
  • A Thai boxing class to discover one of the country’s most popular sports
  • Stand up paddling
  • A bike tour with a guide in a national park around Krabi
  • Go karting

kayaking ao nang

Several Krabi agencies also offer sports activities such as quad biking or kayaking + a ride on elephants. Knowing how these animals are treated, I strongly advise against it.

If you really want to see elephants, I recommend the Krabi Elephant Sanctuary , which houses abused elephants. For half a day, you can feed them and help bathe them.

The round-trip to and from the sanctuary is included.

If you wish to go and see the elephants during your stay in Krabi , you must book in advance by clicking on the green button below:

Elephants Thailand

As you will see, the food in Thailand is really delicious! Even the simplest dishes like fried rice are very good.

If you want to make the local specialities once you get home, I suggest you take the opportunity during your holiday in Krabi to take a cooking class. In addition to learning how to cook 4 dishes and taste them, you will leave with a recipe booklet!

And what I find very nice is that each person can choose the dishes that they want to prepare, including a green curry, Pad Thai pad, spicy shrimp soup , coconut milk chicken , sticky mango rice, curry sauce pasta etc..

To book your cooking class in Krabi, , you can click this button:

The best things to do around Krabi?

After doing all the things I’m talking about in this guide to Krabi, it’s time to continue your road trip in Thailand !

From the Krabi province, you can easily reach other famous places such as Koh Lanta or Phuket .

Koh Lanta is one of the best known islands to visit in the surroundings of Krabi.

To discover the island, you just have to rent a scooter and follow the main road in search of the most beautiful beaches.

From Koh Lanta, you can also go on boat trips to Koh Rok or the islands of Koh Ngai and Koh Muk.

I will give you all the detailed explanations to visit Koh Lanta in this article: The best things to do in Koh Lanta?

Koh Lanta

Less well-known than Koh Lanta and yet just as pretty, Koh Yao Noi is also close to Krabi.

The island is still not much visited and doesn’t have mass tourism. In short, a paradise for those seeking peace and quiet, the ideal place to spend a totally relaxing holiday in a postcard setting.

It is also the perfect island for boat cruises to James Bond Island or the islands of Than Bok Khorani National Park.

All things to do in Koh Yao Noi can be found in our article: Visit Koh Yao Noi.

Koh Yao Noi tour scooter

Phuket is without doubt the most touristy island around Krabi.

People come here mainly to party all night and enjoy the beautiful beaches and water activities during the day.

The island is also an excellent starting point for discovering Koh Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay or even the Similan Islands.

If you would like to visit Phuket, we recommend you read our article: Phuket: the definitive guide.

Phuket plage

These 2 names probably don’t mean anything to you (and it’s understandable because I had never heard of them before I went to Krabi) and yet these 2 small islands lie between Krabi and Koh Lanta.

They both have a few hotels but are completely protected from mass tourism and still very authentic.

It is an excellent choice if all you want for your vacation is some quiet and rest! It is a place that is totally off the beaten track, perfect for a relaxing stay in Thailand.

To reach these islands, you will have to take a boat to Krabi, or, if you are coming from Koh Lanta, the ferry makes 2 stops on the way to unload the passengers.

To visit Krabi, I recommend a minimum of 3 days.

You can of course spend 4, 5 days or even 1 week here to do all the activities or simply stay on the beach.

In 1 day in Krabi, you must go to Railay.

Guests can relax at the beach , discover the Phra Nang Cave and climb to the viewpoint.

On your way back in a boat to Ao Nang at the end of the day , you can enjoy the beautiful sunset over the bay.

If you have 2 days in Krabi , you can continue from the schedule for the first day and add a trip to the surrounding islands, with the choice of:

  • Trip to the 4 islands
  • Day at Koh Phi Phi
  • The 4 islands + Koh Phi Phi
  • Trip to Hong Islands

On the third day in Krabi , in addition to the previous 2 days, you have several options:

1) A trip to the islands, choosing those that you did not go to on day 2

2) Climbing to the Tiger temple in the morning and discovering Krabi Town in the afternoon

3) One day at the emerald pool and hot springs

4) The Tab Kak Hang Nak trail

5) Hiking in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

6) Sports activities such as kayaking in the mangrove or zip line.

For 4, 5 or even 7 days in Krabi , you won’t have to choose, you’ll be able to do all the important things.

If you spread out the day 3 options over the rest of your stay in Krabi, you will have plenty to do!

You can then continue your holiday in Thailand by going to Koh Lanta or Phuket.

Where to stay in Krabi

There are 3 main areas to stay in Krabi province:

  • Krabi Town, practical for visiting “land” sites such as the national park, the tiger temple or the emerald swimming pool.
  • Ao Nang if you are looking for a lively area on the seafront and for trips to nearby islands such as Koh Phi Phi or Chicken Island.
  • Railay to enjoy the beach.

To help you, I have prepared a selection of the best hotels to stay based on these areas and your budget.

  • Pak-Up Hostel: Hostel located in the centre of Krabi. Dormitory bed from 7€. Strong points: cleanliness, large storage lockers under the beds, air conditioned dormitories. Perfect for small budgets and backpackers!

Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Spa - Hôtel de luxe à Railay

The easiest way to get around Krabi, Ao Nang and the surroundings is to rent a scooter. You don’t have to follow a schedule and you can do anything you want during the day.

If you only plan to stay in Krabi Town or Ao Nang , you can also use the song thaew . The red ones connect Fossil Shell / Ao Nang / Krabi / Tiger Cave. The Blue ones, Krabi Town and the airport.

But you can’t go to the emerald pool or the national park in a song thaew, for example.

You will then have to book a taxi for the half day or the day.

If you wish to hire a car (or even a minibus) with a private driver that will take you to visit the places of your choice , the rates are around €65 for 2 for 4 hours and €90 for 2 for 8 hours.

You can click on the button to view the details and make your reservation:

How to go to Krabi

You have several options to reach Krabi.

To go to Krabi from Koh Lanta , you will have to take the boat.

The journey takes about 2h30 with 2 5-minute stops to disembark the passengers who want to go to Koh Jum and Koh Siboya. To give you an idea, we paid 350 Bahts per person with the transfer from our hotel in Koh Lanta to the port.

In the boat, you will be offered shuttles to reach your hotel in Krabi, Railay or Ao Nang . The prices are quite high but don’t hesitate to negotiate.

Otherwise, when you arrive at the port, you will find taxis but the prices are fixed and just as high.

The ferry ride from Koh Phi Phi to Krabi takes about 2 hours.

You can book your transport with pick-up directly from your hotel and the included boat ticket by clicking on the button below:

And ifyou prefer to take a speedboat to reduce the travel time (1 hour only), this is also possible and you need to book it here.

The quickest way to get to Krabi from Phuket is to take a minibus.

The journey takes a little more than 3 hours. You have to take the bus to Phuket station or the airport.

Krabi has an airport 10 km south of the city . There are flights from Bangkok every day.

The flight time is only 1 hour 10 minutes from Bangkok to Krabi. The price is also super interesting: less than €50 per person.

If you are not in a hurry, it is also possible to catch a bus to Krabi from Bangkok . Departure is from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai in Thai).

The ride is 12 hours , so I recommend you book a VIP bus for more comfort.

Once you arrive at Krabi airport, you can catch the bus or a song thaew to Krabi Town, Ao Nang or Railay.

To avoid hassle, you can also book your group transfer from Krabi Airport to Krabi town or Ao Nang. A driver will wait for you upon your arrival to take you to your hotel. Prices start at only €8 per person.

However, you have to book in advance by clicking here!

Private transfers are also available and it really doesn’t cost much more if there are 2 or 3 of you. Here is the link with all the information.

Since flight prices for Krabi vary greatly, it is a good idea to compare them as soon as possible. To do this, you can use our flight comparison tool, in partnership with Skyscanner.  You can rest assured that you will get the best rates.

To help you visualise the town a little better, I made you a tourist map of Krabi listing the places to visit that I talk about in this top 17 things to do in Krabi and nearby. You can display the map legend by clicking the button at the top left with a small arrow.

Krabi is famous for its scenic view and breathtaking Beach es and Island s. Its coral reef vistas are also one of the world’s most beautiful, which makes the City a great spot for coral diving.

With attractions including hot springs, a wildlife sanctuary, sea caves, flourishing coral reefs and exotic marine life, limestone cliffs that draw rock climbing enthusiasts from around the world, and national park s that include the Island paradises of Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta , one could easily spend weeks in Krabi and leave yearning for more. If that wasn’t enough, Krabi features some of the most photogenic sunsets in Thailand , often accompanied by spectacular displays of cloud to cloud lightning, that are best enjoyed from a Beach side bar or Restaurant . “Town” to most visitors is Ao Nang, a sea side s Trip of guesthouses, hotels , bar s, Restaurant s, and Souvenir shops that continues to grow as tourist arrivals increase, now spreading north into Noppharat Thara, whose quiet, shady Beach is part of the national park that includes the Phi Phi Island s. Ao Nang is the major launching point for Boat Trip s to nearby Island s and the isolated Beach es of Phra Nang Cape, where the famous former hippie enclave of Railey Beach is located.

Krabi also provides you with great Shopping venues such as Maharaj Walking Street (Friday-Sunday market from 5.00 – 10.00 pm) and Chao Fah Pier night market (daily market from 5.00 pm – 12.30 am).

 Visitors are advised to make early reservations (up to a year in advance) for Accommodation during the peak sea son from late December to early January because of the popularity of the Krabi and its attractions.

 When travelling by ferry to Island s around Krabi , it may be preferable to purchase only a one-way ticket so that your Trip can be more easily altered and you can more easily arrange your departure.

25 Best Things to Do in Krabi, Thailand

Krabi is the most relaxing part to be in all of Thailand , it is a province that has the most stunning scenery imaginable, beautiful white beaches that stretch on for miles, a jungle and over 200 islands just of the coast. Krabi covers quite a large area so a lot of the attractions require a fair bit of traveling but when everywhere you look is beautiful it is no hardship at all.

The best time to visit is between November and April as the weather in the South of Thailand can be unpredictable but with many places now opening all year you will always find something to do.

The airport in Krabi is offering more routes and more frequent flights than ever before so come and explore the best things to do in Krabi !

1. Escape From It All At Railay Beaches & Caves

Railay Beach, Krabi

Railay beach is potentially the most attractive beach in Thailand, accessible only by boat due to the large cliffs on each side cutting it off from the mainland. Here you will find stunning white sand, breath taking views and fantastic limestone cliffs. When you arrive at Railay you will not find any roads or cars because of its cut off location, just a few long tail boats and a couple of bars to spend your evenings in. If you want to really feel away from the world this might just be as good as it gets.

Try this half day rock climbing tour on Railay Beach (includes hotel pick-up & drop off and a professional guide/instructor).

2. Rent Your Own Boat Or Hire A Guide

Krabi Boat

There are roughly 200 islands sitting just off the Krabi coastline, some are small rocks jutting out of the sea, some are quite a lot larger but still remain uninhabited and some are large islands with many inhabitants living a normal life. You can rent a boat from Krabi town or Ao Nang and explore the islands on your own if you are a keen sailor. Alternatively you can rent a boat that comes with a guide so that you can relax whilst everything is taken care of. The best time of year to go is between November and April to avoid any unpredictable weather.

3. See Outstanding Beauty At Thung Teao Forest Natural Park

Thung Teao Forest Natural Park

Home to many spectacular plants and animals The Natural Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, one part that is particularly inspiring is the Crystal Lagoon. Also known as the Emerald Pool, the water is naturally warm and completely clear, you can go for a swim and escape to another world whilst admiring the waterfall. Keep your eye out for the Pita Gurney bird, once thought to be extinct but some have been spotted within the park.

4. Visit A Temple In A Cave At Wat Tham Sua

Wat Tham Sua

One of Thailand’s natural wonders and certainly worth a visit is this warren of caves that sit within the jungle and house many monks that live and worship here, legend has it that a tiger once lived in the cave which is where the name of the temple originated. The caves can be explored and you will find many icons and relics to take a look at. When you are at the caves you need to make sure you visit the ‘footprint of the Buddha’ it is a climb up 1,237 steps which is no small task but when you get to the top you are rewarded with 360 degree views on the Andaman Sea and the beautiful islands that fall within it.

5. Phi Phi Islands

Phi Phi Island

After being used as the film location for the movie ‘The Beach’ The Phi Phi islands shot to fame and the tourists have never stopped coming, you can get there by speedboat which takes about forty five minutes from Krabi mainland. There are two islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh, Phi Phi Don is inhabited and is the one where all the tourists flock. Known for its turquoise water and stunning beaches the island really is a tropical paradise. If you are planning on taking a trip leave early in the morning to beat the crowds as it gets very busy.

6. Take A Dip At Klong Thom Hot Springs

Klong Thom Hot Springs

Set inside beautiful rainforest surroundings are the Krabi Hot Springs. They have been cut into the smooth rocks and the water is provided from deep rooted thermal springs that are located inside volcanic chambers. The water get up to temperatures of forty degrees Celsius and contains natural mineral salts that have many healing properties. You will feel totally relaxed here and if you fancy a cooling swim after there is a stream that you can do this in. The springs are quite close to the Emarald Pool so it is worth combining the two.

Recommended tour : Wareerak Hot Spring Thai Spa and Massage Treatment in Krabi Rainforest

7. Khao Khanab Nam – The Landmarks Of Krabi

Khao Khanab Nam

The Khao Khanab Nam Mountains are the most famous landmarks in Krabi, they sit either side of the river and are a real natural wonder. The two mountains sit on top of a large series of caves that have many stalagmites and Stalactites, there are also a large number of human skeletons that could have been from people stranded during a flood. One of the mountains is climbable and offers some excellent photograph opportunities from the top.

8. Chill Out On Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta Yai

Koh Lanta Yai is an island about two hours away from Krabi Town, it is a small island that stretches about twenty kilometers from end to end. The island is inhabited and home too many guest houses and resorts. The island itself has various beautiful beaches that are often quiet but look absolutely stunning. If you want to relax for a few days this is the place to get away and do it. The prices on the island are still quite low as tourism has not reached the levels of the Phi Phi islands yet. Koh Lanta is home to many diving schools all certified and ready to take you out to see the beautiful marine life and coral the waters have to offer. A bridge is currently being built that will link the island to Koh Lanta Noi giving you even more places to explore.

9. Step Back In Time At Krabi Town

Krabi Town

Unlike many places that you visit on holiday Krabi Town is different, it still receives many tourists but it has not changed itself to pamper to the tourists needs. It has still managed to retain its ‘local’ feel. The river running though the town is always full of fishing boats bringing in their days catches ready for the restaurant tables. The town has a genuine feel to it with its local bars and eating spots to it is worth visiting for that authentic taste of Thailand.

10. Geological Wonder At Susan Hoi

Susan Hoi

Dating back to sometime between 25 and 40 million years and sitting on a 200 meters long stretch is a fossilized shell fish cemetery, Limestone deposits in the surrounding water covered the shell fish and fossilized them, it is one of only three cemetery’s like this discovered in the world today. If you like geology then this has to be visited whilst you are in Krabi. There is also a Chinese temple which you can visit as well as mangrove forests in the area.

11. Go On A Four Island Tour

Four Island Tour, Krabi

One of the most popular tours that visitors to Krabi go on is the Four Island Tour, It takes you on a tour of four different islands, and they are usually Tup Island, Phra Nang Cave, Chicken Island and Poda Island. The tour is on a long boat and will stop at each location giving you time to swim, sunbathe, explore and stop for lunch. The boats usually house up to about forty people and a tour guide will stand at the front pointing everything out in English whilst making sure everyone has enough water for the trip.

12. Shop At The Night market

Krabi Night Market

Krabi Town like so many other big owns in Thailand has a night market. This market is open every Friday to Sunday in the evening and is not to be missed. There are over seventy food stalls here as well as lots of local sellers selling souvenirs. Sometimes local school children put on a show as they collect money for their school or another charity. There is one particular stall that is worth a special mention it is the one that sells coconut ice-cream, most markets have a stall selling the same things but this ice-cream is famous throughout the markets for its impeccable taste.

13. Party At Ao Nang Beach

Ao Nang Beach

Ao Nang Beach is not the prettiest beach in the area and if you are after white sand and a tranquil setting you are better off at Railay Beach, but if you are looking for some nightlife and a lively atmosphere this is a good place to start. There are many bars and restaurants in the area selling plenty of varieties of cocktails as well as all the food types you would expect in a tourist hotspot. It is also a great place to book your tours from as there are a lot of operators in the area fighting for business keeping the prices slightly lower than some areas.

14. Admire The Beauty At Phra Nang Beach

Phra Nang Beach, Krabi

Having been voted as one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world this is a place you will not want to miss. Only twenty minutes by long boat from Ao Nang it has amazing scenery and is a beautiful place to swim. The beach has perfect white sand and huge cliffs at each end of the beach. You will not find any jet skis or other expensive pursuits at this beach leaving you to enjoy the atmosphere and take in the jaw dropping scenery.

15. Visit an Elephant Sanctuary

Krabi Elephant

Visit an the Krabi Elephant Sanctuary and learn why you should NEVER ride one (although this is unfortunately offered all over Krabi).  The elephants are well treated and you’re going to be amazed how nice the sanctuary looks. You can take part in the feeding and washing process and have a walk with elephants.

16. Visit Wat Kaew Temple

Wat Kaew Temple

Wat Kaew is a temple sitting in the middle of Krabi Town, It is not the biggest of temples but has beautiful decorations on the inside walls, they are painted blue and have various Buddhist drawings on them, at one end of the temple is a large golden Buddha which is the focal point of the temple. Outside are various food stalls and vendors looking to sell amulets.

17. Spend An Afternoon Rock Climbing

Krabi rock climbing

Climbers from around the world come to Krabi to scale the limestone rocks that are plentiful in this area. Various schools cater to beginner climbers where sport climbing is practiced. It is a much safer way for beginners to start as there are permanent hooks placed into the rock with ropes through them, when you lose your grip you will only fall a maximum of fifty centimeters. For experienced climbers there are more than 700 climbs available in the area ranging from F4 (easy) to F8c (professional).

18. Take A Thai Cookery Lesson

Thai Cooking Class

Famous throughout the country are the Thai cookery schools and Krabi is no exception to that, every inhabited island in Krabi will have at least one as does Krabi mainland. There is never anywhere better to learn how to cook local food than by the locals themselves. The schools provide all the ingredients and the lessons are run by Thai people that have had years of experience cooking. Whether it is green curry or Pad Thai they will be able to teach you the correct ingredients and techniques to use. Most classes finish with you sitting down to sample your creations.

Tip: book your cooking classes online

19. Pamper Yourself At A Krabi spa

Krabi Spa Resort

When it comes to escaping from the drudgery of normal life and taking some personal time the spa’s in Krabi are an excellent place to head. You can have body wraps, scrubs and facials all using natural ingredients that are available over Thailand such as Coconut and Tamarind. No trip would be complete though without indulging in a Thai massage whilst you are there, famed all over the world for their energizing and balanced results you are sure to feel like a different person when you leave. The massages stimulate your organs and blood giving you that fresh feeling as the toxins start to leave your body.

20. Try White water rafting

White Water Rafting, Krabi

Fairly new to Krabi is the opportunity to go white water rafting. The rapids are on the Songprak River where a seven kilometer stretch of the river is used. Full training is provided when you arrive as well as a full safety talk, making sure you are as prepared as you can be when you start. The grade of difficulty is levels 2-4 making it a fairly low difficulty run which is perfect for complete beginners. The instructors stay in the boats with you making sure that you do not run into any difficulties along the way. A real adrenaline sport and one not for the faint hearted.

21. Kayaking

Kayaking in Krabi

For those looking to do something a little less exhilarating than white water rafting but still wanting to get out on the water might like the option of kayaking. There are several sites in Krabi to go kayaking each with different benefits. Ao Thalane provide mangroves and canyons, Bor Thor has ancient limestone caves and Koh Hong has a lagoon hidden in its center. In each location you will be spoilt to beautiful views and interesting wildlife (maybe even some monkeys) whilst meandering along in your Kayak.

Amazing tour : Krabi: Sea Kayaking in Ao Thalane & Hong Island

22. Stop For A Drink Old West Bar

Pool Table

Popular with locals and tourists alike is the Old West Bar in Krabi, the only Wild West themed bar in all of Krabi and a place where you are sure to have a lot of fun. There are pool tables to play on and an extensive cocktail list to keep you busy throughout the evening. A lot of bars in Krabi play reggae but this bar plays good American bands from the nineties and beyond. Western and Thai food is served with the pizzas having an excellent reputation.

23. See A Different Kind Of Island At Koh Klang

Koh Klang Island

Unlike the other islands that have been mentioned Koh Klang does not have white sandy beaches to admire and lie on, instead it is a simple fishing island where the local people live off the ocean in a simple existence. Inhabited for over 100 years there are now about 5000 people living permanently on the island, most of whom are fishermen or rice farmers. The island will give you are rare insight into truly local life without you having to travel to a remote village, the locals are a Muslim community with traditional values so respectful clothing is needed whilst out on the island. The island is only a five minute boat trip from Krabi town.

24. Make A Visit To Wat Kaew Korawaram

Wat Kaew Korawaram

Wat Kaew Korawaram is a very large Buddhist Temple that sits at the top of a hill overlooking Krabi Town, you climb up a gold lined staircase that leads you right to the very top, here sits a 2,500sqm terrace upon which the temple itself stands. Instead of the usual red and gold that you see in many Thai temple this one has been decorated with white walls and a roof made of dark blue tiles. The walls of the temple are decorated in beautiful paintings and many relics can be seen. A souvenir shop as well as various food stalls sit outside the temple should you need some refreshment after the climb to the top.

25. Hike Your Way To Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint

Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint

About 30 kilometers to the north of Krabi Town is a place called Nong Thale, here is where you begin your hike to the summit, and the trail itself is about four kilometers long and should take about two and a half hours to reach the summit. Khao Ngon Nak translates to mean Dragon Crest Mountain and feels like a real adventure as you slowly make your way uphill.  Whilst hiking you will encounter a stream, a waterfall and a couple of viewpoints. The best however is saved for the top where you will get so see the panoramic views around you from 565 meters above sea level.

Krabi Starts Here

It comes as a surprise to some people, but not all places in this Krabi travel guide are beaches. Some of the best ones, in fact, are nowhere near the sea—well, not really. (Although I’ll be honest: The question of how many days in Railay Beach you need will figure heavily into what I’m about to say.)

Which is not to say Krabi’s beaches aren’t amazing. Generally speaking, I find them to be the best of any “mainstream” destination in Southern Thailand, and certainly better than Phuket ‘s.

It’s just that Krabi is so much more than a beautiful beach. Let’s start the discussion of where to go in Krabi on this premise, whether that sees you spend 1 week in Krabi, or simply sketching out an Ao Nang itinerary.

Where to Stay in Krabi

Before I dig deeper into this Krabi travel guide, allow me to recommend a couple of hotels. If you’re on the higher end of travelers, you won’t want to miss Railay Beach’s Rayavadee , which some people consider to be the best hotel in all of Thailand. A more reasonably priced property, meanwhile is Sunrise Tropical Resort , which is also in Railay but is more, shall we say, accessible.

Beyond the best beach hotels in Krabi, there are other places in this province to make your home. I’m not going to recommend any hotels in Koh Phi Phi or Ao Nang, for reasons I’ll explain in just a moment, but I am a fan of the cozy and comfortable Sasi House in Krabi town. This laid-back yet stylish hotel is built inside an old Thai house, and has a charming feel you won’t find at any place where waves lap nearby.

My Favorite Places to Visit in Krabi

Railay beach.

krabi tourist map

When it comes to the best beach in Krabi (at least those that are easily accessible), Railay Beach takes the cake, no question. As far as actual swimming is concerned, Railay West is where you’ll want to head, while many of my favorite hotels and restaurants are located at Railay East . I also like to include Phra Nang Cave Beach , the Railay Viewpoint and Tonsai Beach , where you can see bioluminescent plankton, within the topic of Railay. When it comes to the question of “how many days in Railay Beach,” my answer is usually “as many as you can possibly spend”!

krabi tourist map

Among places to visit in Krabi that require a bit more effort, meanwhile, I think that Koh Poda is probably the best beach you’ll find in the province. This is usually visited on a day trip from Railay, during which you visit several other islands (like Koh Gai , or “Chicken Island”), and which also gives you the opportunity to do some snorkeling. TIP: Book a private tour so you can visit Koh Poda early, before the crowds arrive.

Koh Phi Phi

krabi tourist map

Ferries leave from Railay to Koh Phi Phi often enough that you don’t need to think too much about the time you devote to the Phi Phi Islands, which is for the better. To be sure, while the beautiful of Koh Phi Phi is hard to over-estimate, where at the Phi Phi Viewpoint or at iconic Maya Bay , it’s also difficult to underestimate how obnoxious the crowds can be, even if they’re likely to be lighter in the wake of coronavirus .

Wat Tham Suea Temple

krabi tourist map

The first destination within this Krabi travel guide that doesn’t involve a beach is Wat Tham Suea , aka the Tiger Temple. Visiting this temple isn’t easy—after getting a taxi, you’ll need to climb up about 1,200 steps, which is a chore even if you’re fit, given how hot it’s likely to be. The view from the top, however, is just stunning, to say nothing of how the breeze hundreds of meters up will cool your sweaty body.

Sa Morakot (The Emerald Pool)

krabi tourist map

When it comes to day trips from Krabi (assuming you stay in Railay), I like to combine several into one, if I can. To be sure, you can visit the Sa Morakot “Emerald Pool” using the same taxi you book to take you to the Tiger Temple. Additionally, you can add a third attraction—the so-called Hot Springs Waterfall —if you want, but beware. Although this place is cool, figuratively speaking, it is literally scalding!

The Truth About Ao Nang

The good news? Many of the cheap hotels in Krabi (at least the ones on the beach) are in Ao Nang, which is the closest thing to a “main” beach Krabi has. The bad news? Ao Nang’s accessibility (you don’t need to take a boat to get here, as you need to do with Railay) means that anyone and everyone goes here, which gives the area a crowded, claustrophobic feel that just isn’t very pleasant to me.

To be sure, while Ao Nang isn’t near the top of places to visit in Krabi as far as I’m concerned, it isn’t horrible. If you’ve already booked a refundable night (or three!) there by the time you read this, I wouldn’t recommend taking the loss. I just think that when you dive deeper into Krabi, both its beaches and some of its inland treasures, you will see what I mean about Ao Nang, and why it’s not a place I’m rushing to return.

Krabi vs. Phuket

The topic of the best islands in Thailand , more generally, is one I’ve left to another post. What I will say, when simple comparing Krabi and Phuket, is that it’s not really close for me. While Phuket island does have some merits, which include both charming places inland and great beaches, Krabi generally has scenery that is more iconic of Thailand, even if it isn’t as culturally interesting.

This takes into account the fact that some things to do in Krabi (such as excursions to Koh Phi Phi, the Koh Yao islands and James Bond Island) are also accessible from Phuket. Click here to visit Leave Your Daily Hell and read more about my thoughts comparing Phuket vs. Krabi , which I hope will give you insights to make your own decision to this end.

Other FAQ About Travel to Krabi

How many days do you need in krabi.

Krabi province is huge, so I recommend spending at least 3-5 days here. This will afford you a night or two either in Railay or Ao Nang (including the potential for a 4-island day trip), two nights in Koh Phi Phi and at least a full day exploring the attractions of inland Krabi province.

What part of Krabi is best to stay?

Personally, I find that Railay Beach is the “sweet spot” of Krabi. Although it’s not an island, it is only accessible via a (short) boat trip from the mainland, which gives it a castaway feel and a less busy atmosphere than Ao Nang. The scenery is gorgeous, featuring towering limestone karsts and calm, clear waters; islands deeper in the Andaman are either a day trip (Koh Poda, Koh Gai) or a weekend excursion (Phi Phi) away.

How much is the 4 island tour in Krabi?

Depending on how many people you have, whether you choose a private tour and your preference (speed boat or longtail), the 4-island day trip from Krabi starts from 500 Baht per person. As of January 2023, you can hire a private long-tail and driver for a half day for around 3,000 Baht. However, if you’re a solo travel or on a budget, you might want to join a group tour. In either case, any travel agent on the main street between Railay West beach can hook you up, presuming you aren’t afraid to haggle.

The Bottom Line

Should you visit Koh Phi Phi or Railay Beach? The breadth and depth this Krabi travel guide embodies precisely why this is one of my favorite Thailand destinations , even if it is a rather “mainstream” one. There’s simply very few sights in the Kingdom as iconic as the towering limestone karsts of Railay Bay, let alone with dozens of long-tail boats splayed out beneath them. I hope you’ll follow in my footsteps to this paradisiacal part of Thailand. And I hope, if you aren’t able to mold the advice I’ve laid out about Krabi vacations here into an itinerary, you’ll consider hiring me to create one for you .

The PERFECT 3 Days in Krabi Itinerary (2024 Guide)

Picture of Yen Ang

  • Last Updated: January 17, 2024

If you’re planning a trip to Thailand, be sure to consider this awesome three days in Krabi itinerary.

Krabi is a coastal town located on the west coast of Thailand that is surrounded by craggy limestone hills and pristine islands. It has a spot on the bucket list of countless travellers.

Vibrant bustling streets in Ao Nang Beach and the gorgeous view of Railay Beach, dining by the river in Chao Fah Night Market, dipping in Emerald Pool, panoramic view of Krabi city – it’s not exaggerating to say that Krabi truly has something for everyone .

Did I mention the Krabi island hopping tours? There are plenty of those to go around!

Table of Contents

Hiking in Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint

Shell cemetery (susan hoi), pay a visit to wat kaew korawaram, sunset & nightlife in ao nang beach, walking along the pier, go for an island-hopping tour, have a drink in a bar in krabi town, hiking in wat tham sua or tiger cave temple , ride to emerald pool in krabi, dip into klong thom hot springs in krabi, dinner in chao fah night market, best time to visit krabi, getting to krabi, thailand, getting around in krabi, where to stay in krabi – baan to guesthouse , wrapping up your krabi itinerary, the perfect 3 days in krabi itinerary for every traveller.

If you’re planning a trip to Krabi, Thailand, here is the perfect 3 days in Krabi itinerary to ease up your travel planning!

We’ll include island tours in the Andaman Sea, the famous Railay Beach, Krabi night market, hikes through the jungle, views over the stunning Krabi province, and more. There is so much to do when you visit Krabi town and the surrounding areas!

Ma Tang Ming Island In Krabi

Day 1 – Hikes and Nightlife

Let’s get the first morning of your Krabi itinerary started with some hiking. You’ll end the day exploring Ao Nang, a vibrant town for nightlife.

What’s a better way to start your trip in a new city than enjoying the panoramic view over the surrounding wilderness after an exhausting hike?

Everyone has their way of fighting the fatigue of flying. In my case, I always prefer hiking, which guarantees a good night’s sleep at the end of the day.

The hike to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint is not a difficult one, but it does take some time – around 2-3 hours for a return trip.

And the next stop on our Krabi itinerary is on the way back from Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint, so plan for a long day out.

There are plenty of free motorcycle parking lots at the entrance in front of the luxurious resorts. Don’t ride past the gate, if not, you’ll be charged a parking fee for a distance of 5 minutes’ walk.

There is no entrance fee to this hike, but the ranger at the counter will repeatedly remind you to tip them before and after you do the hike.

The Surreal View Of Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint Over The Vast Rainforest In Krabi.

Like other hikes, there are steep and plain parts on the trail. For some steeper parts, they’ve built staircases to make your hike easier.

It’s all dirt trail on the hike, and wearing a sandal is no doubt a bad idea. The dense jungle blocks off any winds that could be cooling you off, so make sure you bring plenty of water to hydrate yourself!

When you’re approaching the peak, there are signboards pointing to a waterfall and a lake. You may want to avoid these as they are not all that attractive.

At the peak, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view at a few hundred meters above sea level. Just make sure you don’t stand on the dangerous cliffs barred off from visitors.

Never risk your life for a photo, just enjoy the view from the vantage point.

If you have the time, stop at Tubkaek Beach , located right just after leaving Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint. This is a very quiet, long beach with amazing views on the limestone hills budding from the sea surface in distance.

The Krabi Shell Cemetery is located 17 kilometres from Krabi town centre, which makes a great detour on your way back from the Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint. That’s if you’re staying in Krabi town.

The road leading to the entrance of Susan Hoi is intercepted at the main road connecting Ao Nang Beach and Krabi Town.

With the shell fossils dating back to 25-40 million years, it’s a great place for those who’re interested. But if you’re not into these things, you’ll probably want to pass on this attraction and head straight back into Krabi town.

The entrance fee to Susan Hoi is 200 Baht per entry.

On your way to the next point, don’t forget to grab some snacks or drinks from the Family Mart or 7-Eleven. They’re spread out across the town like mushrooms, you find them literally everywhere.

Wat Kaew Korawaram is absolutely the most elegant temple in Krabi. Located right inside Krabi town centre, the temple is easily accessible to visitors staying near the pier.

The staircases leading to the temple from the main road are decorated with naga sculptures, giving it a classic Thailand Buddhist temple appearance.

Upon reaching the temple, you’ll notice several dozens of information boards depicting the stories of Buddha – the birth of Buddha, how Buddha achieved enlightenment , and more.

The only downside is that some of the details and explanations are in the Thai language only.

While you’re there, take a moment and appreciate the architecture of the majestic temple. The entrance to Wat Kaew Korawaram is free of charge!

Wat Kaew Korawaram

Now we’re talking about one of the most popular beaches in Thailand – Ao Nang Beach. This well-trodden beach is often the spot to be for sunset views.

And despite the crowds, there’s no reason to miss Ao Nang on your Krabi itinerary.

On your way to Ao Nang Beach, you’ll pass by dozens of vibrant stores before reaching the parking lot.

While the beach is always filled during evening hours, it’s totally possible to find a spot for yourself on the massive stretch of beach.

Head into the bustling streets and alleys of Ao Nang when the sun goes down as this is when the nightlife begins.

Hundreds of restaurants serve cuisines from all around the world on the wide budget range. Need cheap eats? Head over to the night market.

Bars, pubs, and souvenir stores are spread throughout Ao Nang, so you’ll surely enjoy your night there!

Ao Nang Beach!

Day 2 – Island Hopping

After a fun night in Ao Nang, get ready for an epic day. Your second day in your Krabi itinerary will be an unforgettable one.

Today, we’re going island-hopping! You’ll get to see some gorgeous islands, and even pay a visit to the infamous Railay Beach.

Walking along the Krabi pier is a great way to start your day. Facing east, you could catch the sunrise from the mangrove forest on the opposite side.

The famous crab sculptures and several decorations were placed along the pier and every morning, it welcomes dozens of morning runners.

On your way back to your hotel, grab a sandwich from the Family Mart nearby or quickly stop at a cafe or restaurant of your choice in the area.

It’s going to be a busy day so load up on coffee and grab that bite to eat and let’s get started!

The Famous Crab Sculptures In Krabi.

A trip to Krabi wouldn’t be complete without an island-hopping tour. This very coast is surrounded by dozens of breathtaking uninhabited islands, crystal-clear waters and limestone hills.

It’s extremely easy to book a tour in Krabi. The easiest way would be booking with your accommodation manager, who usually has some discounts.

Most tours you will find will either be for 4 islands or 7 islands.

While I was staying in Baan To Guesthouse in Krabi, I went on the 7 Islands Sunset Tour for 900 Baht (discounted from 1,500 Baht).

There are also different tours like the 4 Islands Tour (which is more well-known to visitors), kayaking tours, rainforest discovery tour, and more.

There is honestly not much difference between the 7 Islands and 4 Islands tours.

BONUS –  Booking ahead of time ensures you won’t miss out on the tour, and get the best price too! And just for NOMADasaurus readers, if you use the Klook discount code  “NOMADS10”  on the website when checking out, you’ll get $10 off your first booking!

Both are going to provide you with a full-day tour. The 4 islands tours will allow you to spend more time on each island. But you get to see more on the 7 islands tour.

It’s all up to you whether you want to spend more time racing around between the different islands or relaxing on the beach!

For the 7 Islands Sunset Tour you can expect an itinerary similar to this:

The tuk-tuk will pick you up at 12 pm and bring you to Ao Nam Mao Pier. There, you will register yourself and collect the snorkelling mask.

Snorkeling With The Fish In Chicken Island.

You’ll then be directed onboard the longtail boat to start your day.

Throughout the day you will be visiting Tup Island, Thap Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island, Ma Tang Ming Island, Si Island, Phra Nang Beach, and Railay Beach (which technically isn’t an island).

You will get to walk between Tup Island and Thap Island , which is connected by the shallow beach on foot. You’ll also get to snorkel with the fish near Chicken Island , chill on Poda Island , visit Phra Nang Cave Beach and finally feast on a buffet dinner while watching the sunset in Railay Beach .

Railay Beach is one of Thailand’s most famous. Framed by limestone cliffs and dense jungle, Railay Beach is popular among rock climbers and photographers.

For some tours on your Krabi itinerary, you may also get to go night snorkelling to see the phytoplankton before heading back for the fire show at the pier at around 8 pm.

Sounds cool, right!? Book a 4-Island tour here!

An alternative option is booking a day tour to Koh Phi Phi . Koh Phi Phi is a great day trip, as it includes all the highlights like Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, and Maya Bay.

We would recommend spending a few days in Koh Phi Phi and taking your time seeing Maya Bay and the Koh Phi Phi town center.

But if you’re short on time and you’d rather visit Koh Phi Phi as a day trip from Krabi, you can do that. Any Krabi island hopping trip should include Koh Phi Phi for sure!

The View You Get From Tup Island, Surrounded By Nothing But Pristine Beaches And Crystal-Clear Seawater. Well, And Boats And Other Visitors, Of Course.

After returning back to the Krabi province after a busy day exploring the islands you will find the nightlife is starting to pick up.

Krabi is home to countless bars, swarmed by foreign visitors every night to spend the last few hours of the day. If you’re staying in Ao Nang Beach, then, of course, you should spend the night there.

I never visited all of the bars in Krabi Town, but there’s one particular bar that I highly recommend – Booze Bar . The staff are friendly and they have live music and lovely vibes, all you could ask for in a perfect bar.

READ MORE: Be sure to spend some time visiting Koh Phi Phi after your Krabi itinerary

Day 3 – Caves and the Emerald Pool

Most of the accommodations in Krabi do include breakfast in your stay, but if they don’t, they probably have a café to fill your morning tummy.

Today, we’re gonna rent a motorcycle to have fun around the outskirts of Krabi. If it’s not your thing, it’s pretty easy to get a tuk-tuk in Krabi to get to wherever you want!

You can also save a bunch of time by booking today’s activities as part of an all-inclusive tour ! Perfect if you’d rather not run the risk of riding a motorcycle without insurance or a license when you visit Krabi.

You might want to know that this is way more physically demanding compared to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint.

I’m not trying to scare you. But trust me, you’ll be thanking yourself after reaching the top, enjoying the magnificent view of the temple sitting upon the ragged limestone hill.

At the base, there are several attractions like an artificial waterfall, cafeteria, and temples.

But the main attraction lies on the top connected by the 1,200-step staircases (Note: due to its physical demand this is not for all travellers.)

Visiting in the morning is a better idea as the weather is usually cooler and the sunlight isn’t as harsh as the scorching tropical sun in the afternoon.

It takes around 20-40 minutes to get to the temple on top.

If you’re worried about dehydration, bring a water bottle with you. But note that there is a water station at the temple on top to refill your bottle.

You’ll have to take off your shoes to visit around the temple, and you could easily spend 30 minutes up there on the view alone.

Also, be extra careful of the aggressive monkeys. Don’t touch them, and don’t go near a mom with babies. And definitely don’t feed them.

Limestone Views Krabi

Over the years, Emerald Pool has become one of the must-visits in Krabi for no other reasons than it’s simply wonderful. Minerals in the water make the colour absolutely spectacular!

Located inside Thung Teao Forest Natural Park , there are several hiking trails surrounding the emerald pool too. But for now, let’s go straight for the pool.

Due to the tourist crowds, it’s wiser to pay this attraction a visit in the morning. So, it’s all up to you if you want to interchange this with Tiger Cave Temple.

With an entrance fee of 200 Baht, you are allowed to soak yourself in the crystal pond for as long as you want. The entrance closes at 4.30 pm.

Next up, Klong Thom Hot Springs is located near Emerald Pool, so I highly recommend you arrange both of these attractions on the same day on your Krabi itinerary.

The hot spring itself is extremely small and difficult to accommodate the number of visitors daily.

So, the authorities have decided to build an artificial pool near the hot spring and drain part of the water there for more people to enjoy.

The artificial pool is located before the authentic hot spring. So, if you’re visiting in the non-peak hours you could possibly enjoy the hot springs surrounded by gigantic tree roots.

It’s advised that you shouldn’t soak yourself in the hot springs for more than 20 minutes at a time.

The entrance fee to Klong Thom Hot Springs is 160 Baht, plus 10 Baht for your motorbike parking.

Chao Fah Night Market is one of the most enjoyable night markets in all of Thailand. Hundreds of tables and chairs are arranged by the pier, fenced by dozens of hawker stalls.

You can go over all the menus of every stall, but you won’t notice much difference other than the design. Choose the one you like, and order whatever you want, and they’ll arrange a seat for you.

There are milkshake stalls there, which I recommend. (Krabi has much better milkshakes compared to Phi Phi Islands and Phuket, honestly.)

The highlights here are, of course, seafood, since Krabi is a coastal town. And they’re surprisingly affordable here too. You can get a big plate of clams for under 200 Baht!

You could also choose to attend the Blue Dragon Cabaret show , which is one of the more popular and most famous attractions in all of Thailand.

There are other Ladyboy shows throughout Thailand but this is worth a watch on the last of your 3 days in Krabi itinerary.

Krabi Thailand City Guide

Now that you have a pretty good idea about what you’re going to do with your 3 days in Krabi itinerary, let’s help you travel to and around Krabi and find the best accommodation and food!

The best time to visit Krabi and the rest of Southern Thailand is generally during the dry season, which spans from November to April.

During these months, Krabi experiences pleasant weather with clear skies, warm temperatures, and lower humidity. Travel guides would recommend these months for exploring the region’s renowned limestone cliffs, pristine beaches, and vibrant marine life.

While the peak tourist season occurs from December to February, offering optimal conditions for various outdoor activities like rock climbing, island hopping, and snorkeling, visitors can still enjoy nice weather in the shoulder months of November and April.

However, you should always check the local weather and be mindful of potential variations in weather patterns, as occasional brief rain showers can occur even during the dry season.

If Krabi is your first destination in Thailand, then there’s good news – there is an international airport in Krabi.

Inside the Krabi Airport, you’ll have to choose between taking the shared van or private transfer to your accommodation.

In my case, I took the shared van, which is surprisingly comfortable with leather seats and a well-air-conditioned interior.

It took around 30 minutes to reach our hostel, and yes, they drop you right at the doorstep. The price? Only 90 Baht!

In some cases where you’re travelling in Phuket first, then consider taking the shared van from the bus terminals to Krabi. There are two bus terminals in Phuket.

It takes 3 hours to reach Krabi by bus. The only downside is that the bus terminal is rather far from most accommodations.

You might need a cab to get to your hotel, or you could walk, which I did! The shared van costs 140 Baht.

What if you’re staying in Ao Nang? Well, it’s pretty similar.

From the airport, catch the shared van to Ao Nang, which costs slightly more at 110 Baht. From Phuket, just tell the receptionist that you’re going to Ao Nang. It’s pretty straightforward as Ao Nang and Krabi are so close.

For travellers, the most popular place to stay would be near the Chao Fah Park Pier. There are plenty of shops, marts, hostels, and hotels – and of course, night markets.

Since there are not that many attractions inside Krabi Town, renting a motorcycle is the easiest way to visit the nearest attractions like the Emerald Pool, Ao Nang, Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint, and more.

Renting a motorcycle when you visit Krabi is almost effortless and is reasonably priced at around 200-250 Baht per day.

This price excludes petrol, which is pretty cheap as well. Chances are, you can rent a motorcycle from your hotel or hostel.

If a motorcycle is not your thing, then your options would be either private cabs, tours or GrabCar.

Tours are pretty common when you visit Krabi due to its popularity among Chinese, Russian and Korean tourists. So booking a tour is trouble-free.

Baan To Guesthouse definitely has one of the most strategic locations for those who visit Krabi. Within a 5-minutes’ walk, you’ll get to Chao Fah Night Market, the pier, and plenty of amazing cafes and restaurants, like 89 Café .

I highly recommend this café, even though it’s a little pricey, the foods are top-notch and will never disappoint you.

They have one of the cheapest prices for double rooms in Krabi, and the on-site restaurant is perfect for breakfast. The host was extremely friendly as well, and we gladly rented her motorcycle for 250 Baht per day.

The rooms were basic, a little bit warm, so I suggest getting an air-conditioned room.

I hope you enjoyed reading this 3 days Krabi itinerary. Krabi Thailand is a wonderland for those who love nightlife. But it’s also perfect for those who enjoy travelling at a slower pace.

In short, Krabi Thailand has something for everyone. Three days in Krabi are enough for most people to take in the essential attractions.

But if you’re opting to stay longer, Krabi is a great spot to sit back and relax!
