14 Best Seville Tours Not to Miss

Make the most of your stay in the capital of Andalucia with the best Seville tours. Guided excursions allow you to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time while learning about the city’s storied past.

While all tours have a historical element, it’s possible to choose from a wide variety of formats. This guide focuses on walking, bike, bus, and riverboat tours. Let’s take a look at the best tours in Seville for budget travelers, history buffs, and outdoorsy explorers.

The Best Seville Tours

There are hundreds of thrilling and cultural things to do in Andalucia but it all starts in Seville. Encompassing Seville walking tours, cycling trips, dinner cruises, and kayaking, this post has an activity to suit all travelers.

Traveling on a budget? Scroll to the end for the lowdown on Seville free tours.

Climbing to the top of the Seville Cathedral bell tower is one of the best things to while you are visiting the city.

1. Seville Cathedral, Giralda, and Royal Alcázar Guided Tour

Click open any list of things to do in Seville and you know the number one item will be the Royal Alcázar.

This royal residence was built on top of a former Moorish palace and exemplifies Mudejar architecture. Even today, the oldest royal palace in Europe is used to house the Spanish royal family whenever they pass through Seville. It’s possible to visit the Royal Alcázar and its gardens independently. However, if you visit as part of a tour you’ll gain so much more insight into the history and significance of the complex.

This Cathedral, Giralda, and Royal Alcázar guided tour is one of the best Seville tours in terms of value. As well as visiting the palace, you will swing by the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede and climb up the Giralda. Once a Moorish minaret, this later became a belfry. The tour concludes in the palace gardens where you can spend as long as you wish.

The Royal Alcazar was made so much better with a tour guide who could explain the history and architecture.

2. Small-group Guided Walking Tour of Seville

Get down to basics on this option for a guided small-group walking tour in Seville. The route replicates the stops typical of a Seville itinerary , such as the Royal Alcázar, Plaza de España, Setas de Sevilla, and the cathedral. The guide service is available in both English and Spanish. Book this small group option here .

Of all the walking tours in Seville, this one provides the most value. It’s kind to the wallet and packs a lot of value into two hours. Furthermore, the group size is capped at 15 pax and is accessible to wheelchair users and strollers. If you fancy upgrading the activity, you can book the morning slot that includes breakfast.

3. Guadalquivir River Sightseeing Eco Cruise

Cool down in the summer months with this one-hour Guadalquivir River sightseeing eco-cruise . The tour departs from the centrally located Muelle de Nueva York and glides past the Torre del Oro, Seville Cathedral, and Torre Schindler. It’s a special way to see the city sights while resting your legs and avoiding the heat.

This is also one of the most informative riverboat tours in Seville. The cruise is supported by a recorded narration and the solar-powered vessel means it’s easy to hear everything (and great for the environment, too!). The tour is pretty inexpensive so you shouldn’t feel guilty about grabbing a drink from the onboard bar.

Food tours are the best way to get to know the food culture of a city and to eat yummy local bites.

4. Tapas, Taverns, and History of Seville Tour

Another choice selection of Seville walking tours, this tour of Seville Tapas, Taverns, and History also has you covered for supper. The tour concentrates on the oldest (and tiniest!) bars in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. Rather than sitting down, there’s quite a bit of eating while standing – but that’s the way to graze like a true Sevillano .

At four hours, this one does chew up a large chunk of your itinerary. However, it’s an all-inclusive Seville tour of history and cuisine. The historical commentary is broken up by stops at four bars where you’ll enjoy at least 10 tapas overall and five drinks. As it’s a small tour capped at 10 guests, you’ll have plenty of chances to ask questions. Plus, the format is great for solo travelers as well as sociable couples and groups.

5. Highlights of Seville Bike Tour

This highlights of Seville bike ride is perfect if you’re short on time as you’ll cover so much more of the city than by foot. But, it’s also a really fun way of seeing the monuments and getting a sense of the city’s layout.

The tour covers the Santa Cruz and Triana neighborhoods as well as Maria Luisa Park, Torre del Oro, Seville Cathedral, and the Royal Alcázar. It’s managed by a local guide who’ll steer you along a bike-friendly route with minimal traffic. Given the route, this is one of the best bike tours in Seville for first-time visitors.

In addition to the bike and tour service, the package includes a helmet and a small basket to store your bag. Along the way, you’ll also stop to take photos and pick up insider tips on where to eat in Seville.

Boat and bike tours in Seville will take you past some of the city’s most popular monuments like the Torre del Oro.

6. Private Seville River Cruise with Dinner and Drinks

An alternative option for sailing enthusiasts, this private river cruise with dinner and drinks is one of the memorable boat tours in Seville to mark a special occasion. It’s fully private and inclusive of a 1.5-hour sailing trip, a meal, and two drinks. The meal is designed to be shared between a couple or small group and gives you a choice of three set menus.

In addition to the two drinks, you have the option to buy a bottle of bubbles. While you sail and eat, the crew will talk you through the sights and monuments on the riverside. But, you’ll also have moments of solitude to focus on the food and experience.

With the price starting at $400 for a couple, it isn’t an option for the budget traveler. However, the price per head does decrease if you have a larger group, so a great option if you’re traveling with friends. It’s also one of the best tours in Seville for a honeymoon or anniversary trip.

Be sure to take your time after the tour to explore the gardens at the Royal Alcazar.

7. City of Queens, Nuns, Sex Work, and Witches Walking Tour

One of the most unique tours in Seville, the City of Queens, Nuns, Sex Work, and Witches walking tour focuses on the women who shaped the city’s history. Most of the names and stories you’ll hear are omitted from history books.

Accounts of the role of women in Seville will be shared as you wander past the Costurero de la Reina and through Santa Cruz and Maria Luisa Park. At the Old Tobacco Factory, you’ll learn about how women were employed to make cigars – on account that the managers could pay them less.

All in all, the tour delivers on political history, social affairs, literature, and scandal. There is the option to stop for a drink partway through the two-hour walking tour.

Take in the views of the city from the top of the cathedral. You will get the chance to do this on a tour of the cathedral or on your own once the tour is over.

8. Electric Bike Tour of Seville

A second pick of fun bike tours in Seville, this electric bike option demands minimum effort. The bike lets you cycle as much or as little as you like as you cruise past Plaza de España, Seville Cathedral, the Royal Alcázar, and the Torre del Oro. This is especially fantastic during the searing hot summers in Seville.

As the electric bike spares you from using up your energy, you’ll visit outlying the neighborhoods of El Arenal and Triana without breaking a sweat. Before you depart, the guide will run through a few pointers about how to get the most out of the e-bike and provide a safety briefing. Sporting a helmet and a sense of adventure, you’ll follow them through the streets and dismount at principal points of interest to hear historical anecdotes.

Two people are required per booking on this tour and the group size is limited to 10 participants to ensure a safe and intimate experience.

9. Guadalquivir River Kayaking Tour

See Seville from the “Big River” in this two-hour Guadalquivir River kayaking journey . The waterway actually has a curious history and played an important role during Seville’s Golden Age.

Spanning 408 miles (656 km), the river runs down from the Sierra de Cazorla mountains through Córdoba and Seville before meeting the Atlantic Ocean in the Bay of Cadiz. Surprisingly for an inland city, Seville was a major port. Marking the final stage at which ships could sail on the Guadalquivir River, it transported such goods as gold, silver, and tobacco.

Nowadays, the river is used purely for recreation and this kayaking activity is one of the best Seville tours for adventurous travelers. The guide will talk you through the history of the river but the emphasis is placed on paddling and ogling pros from the local rowing clubs gliding up and down the water.

Soak up the streets of Seville with a bike tour or move a little quicker on a tuk-tuk!

10. Private Eco Tuk Tuk Tour of Seville

Hang on tight as you hurtle around the sights via one of the best Seville tours for an unusual day out. This private eco tuk-tuk ride is delivered from an electric vehicle that accommodates four passengers. Larger groups can reserve two tuk-tuks.

The itinerary covers Santa Cruz, Triana, and El Arenal. Principal sights are inclusive of the Palace of San Telmo, the Royal Tobacco Factory, Plaza de América, and the Maestranza building. You’ll also venture as far as Isla de La Cartuja where the 1992 Expo was installed.

Overall, the tour lasts around two hours. You’ll cover far more ground than you could on foot or by bike yet the electric tuk tuk helps reduce your carbon footprint.

11. Seville City Sightseeing Hop-on, Hop-off Bus Tour

There’s a reason hop-on, hop-off bus tours never fell out of fashion. They’re flexible, affordable, and awesome in all weather conditions.

This City Sightseeing hop-on, hop-off bus ticket invites you to explore Seville at your own pace. The ticket is valid for 24 hours and the route covers 14 stops just outside the center. If you decide to stay on board for the entire loop, it will take around one hour to complete. All double-decker buses offer commentary in 15 languages.

Ultimately, you have total flexibility while the mobile ticket streamlines the activity. In addition, the price covers free or reduced admission to several attractions and a choice of walking or bike tours in Seville. This is one of the best Seville tours for families with kids or those traveling with elderly relatives.

Explore the city by night and learn about some of the ghosts that roam the streets on a paranormal Seville tour.

12. Paranormal Walking Tour in Seville

Get your spook on with one of the creepiest walking tours in Seville. This paranormal walking adventure occurs after dark and concentrates on the Santa Cruz neighborhood. You’ll hear about ghostly sightings at the university’s Faculty of Fine Arts and learn about the resident ghouls at Casa Fabiola.

On the course of the walking tour, you’ll also hear about gruesome crimes and unexplained events. The guides are charismatic and will prompt even the most skeptical to question the supernatural world. The tour maxes out at 15 participants to ensure an eerie atmosphere. It’s family-friendly but there’s always the risk of a nightmare or two.

13. Exclusive Guadalquivir Riverboat Tour with Tapas

One of the coolest boat tours in Seville rolls sightseeing, dining, and an epic ambiance all into one package. This exclusive riverboat ride  with tapas passes beneath the iconic Isabel Bridge II and cruises north towards Isla de La Cartuja where you’ll see the 1929 Ibero-American exhibition.

Keep a sharp eye and you’ll spot Plaza de Toros de La Maestranza, Torre del Oro, and Palacio de San Telmo. The captain will provide live commentary while you tuck into Andalucian tapas and sip a cold beer or glass of sangria.

Get out and explore Seville with a tour guide or grab a map from the tourist center and walk the streets on your own, either way, you’ll soon discover the beauty of this city.

14. Free Seville Walking Tour

Preserve your vacation money by booking a free Seville tour. Free Tours By Foot runs the Essential Free Tour in Seville twice daily which you can read more about here.  The two-hour walking tour focuses on the Santa Cruz neighborhood and grants a view of the cathedral, Royal Alcázar, the Giralda, and more.

The historical commentary covers Romans, Visigoths, and Arabian influences on the modern city and the relations between the various civilizations that claimed Seville. It’s recommended to book your free slot online although it’s also possible to turn up. You can also browse additional Seville free tours via their website .

As with all cities, Seville free tours technically work on a gratuities basis. Therefore, you’ll need to take cash in euros to tip your guide. Most tourists tip in the region of €10-15 per person.

Citrus zest-scented Seville, the capital of the Spanish region of Andalucia has been a fantastic grandstand to the intriguing history and culture of the region accumulated over the centuries. Visitors will enjoy the area’s incredible architecture, like the Moorish styled Alcazar, magnificent Cathedral and its Giralda tower, among others showcasing examples of everything from Roman to Baroque within the streets of the city. Seville is also known throughout Spain for its vibrant nightlife and is home to the most stylish, fun-loving people in the region. After dark, the city streets come alive with crowds making their way into the many tapas bars and clubs before later spilling back out onto the narrow medieval streets. This air of revelry extends to its much-revered Andalucian heritage with the profound Semana Santa (holy Week) festivities and the celebratory Seville fair, held each year in April. Traditional bull fighting is enjoyed in Seville at the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza and for those who like their traditions less bloodthirsty, Flamenco dancing is both practised and taught in various places around the city. Seville encompasses all the heat and passion of Southern Spain but beware; the temperature can reach sweltering heights in the summer months.

Private Guided Tour of Seville

Expert guides, luxury vehicles, popular locations on our tours of seville.

Explore Seville (or Sevilla in Spanish) on a customized tour itinerary with your private guide. Discover what makes Seville such a beautiful, historic river city and capital of southern Spain’s Andalucia.

On your private tour, you will enjoy an eclectic mix of Moorish, medieval, renaissance, and gothic architecture, along with Seville-style cuisine that tells the story of the city’s unique history. Visit the enormous cathedral on a private tour with your certified guide and explore the amazing Alcazar with skip-the-line access, stunning Palacios, patios and gardens, laid-back bars, flamenco clubs, and sample authentic Seville between the narrow medieval lanes and Roman ruins.

Private tour Plaza de Espana, Sevilla, Spain.

Seville Cathedral Private Tour

Seville cathedral tour

Seville Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site initially constructed in 1401 that can proudly boast of being the largest Church, not only in Seville but in all of Spain!

On your private tour, your guide will discuss and contextualize the fabulous wealth of art treasures contained within the Cathedral. The Main Alter has to be seen in real life to truly be appreciated featuring an enormous intricately carved wooden structure that measures 66 feet high by 60 feet wide! Your private guide will reveal the centuries of history and historical figures who have played a role in bringing the Cathedral to such prominence in Seville.

Alongside the Alter, your tour of Seville Cathedral will include:

  • Climb to the top of the Giralda Tower
  • Christopher Columbus’ Tomb
  • The Royal Chapel
  • The Orange Tree Courtyard

5 star review

Highlights of Skip-The-Line Seville Cathedral Tour

Giralda tower.

You can ascend to the top of this stunning bell tower to enjoy the views from both inside and out.

Orange Tree Courtyard (Patio de Los Naranjos)

The courtyard or sahn of the original mosque. It was remodeled considerably in the 13th century for use as a cloister and cemetery.

The Royal Chapel (Capilla Real)

The final resting place of members of  Spanish Royalty. Among others are Alfonso X and Pedro I, known as the Cruel, who built the Alcázar.

Altar Mayor

The Main Altar is dwarfed by the golden splendor that is the main altarpiece. Carved and polychromed, it was begun by Flemish craftsmen in 1482 and it took almost a century to complete. Comprising hundreds of figures and depicting scenes of the life of Christ as well as of the City and Cathedral, it is a stunning example of its kind.

Christopher Columbus’ Tomb (Monumento de Colón)

The Tomb (or Monument) to Christopher Columbus is situated near the Ancient Chapel where Columbus is said to have prayed before his voyages.

Sacristía Mayor

Here your guide will introduce you to the Treasury which houses works by Goya, Murillo, and Zurbaran.

The Royal Palace of Seville - Real Alcázar de Sevilla Spain

Real Alcázar de Sevilla guided tour in courtyard section

Simply a must-visit destination when visiting Spain, let alone Seville, the UNESCO-listed Royal Alcazar (meaning “castle” in Spanish and derived from “Al-qasr”, Arabic for palace) dates back to 913, and over the years the Moorish traditions and Christian culture have blended to create a magnificent palace which is still King Felipe V’s official residence when in Seville.

With special skip-the-line access, your guide will take you around all of the most significant aspects of the incredible royal Alcazar, including:

Puerta del León (The Lion’s Gate)

The Lion’s Gate, or more appropriately courtyard, contains some of the oldest original features found in the Alcazar.

The walls of the courtyard can be dated back to the 12th century. Your guide will discuss the many centuries of war, Moorish and Christian traditions, and history that occurred within these walls before you move onto the Hall of Justice just on the other side of the courtyard.

Patio de las Doncellas or the Patio of the Maidens

Of the many highlights to be found within the Alcazar, the Patio of the maidens (strategically found in the heart of the palace) could, perhaps, be the finest.

Named after the legend that the Moors demanded one hundred virgins each year in tribute from the Christian kingdoms in Spain and Portugal, but despite the questionable origins, the patio itself is exquisite. With long rectangular pools and gorgeous sunken gardens on either side, your eye will unfailingly be drawn to the fabulous details of the tiling and symmetrical arches. Given this outstanding ornateness and beauty, it will be no surprise to find you will likely recognize the patio from blockbuster productions such as Game of Thrones and Kingdom of Heaven.

Palacio de Don Pedro - The Palace of Peter I

Built in the 14th Century to mark the beginning of King Peter’s reign, the Palacio de Don Pedro is constructed in a stunning Mudejar architectural style – combining both Moorish and Christian features.

You will note that the palace houses Arabic inscriptions, this is because the Castilian monarchs of the time made a move away from European tastes and instead used Andalusian models for their inspiration.

The Ambassador’s Hall

Originally constructed by Al-Mu’tamid in the 11th century, the Ambassador’s hall was renovated in the 14th Century by the Christian King Peter the Just (although in some places he was known as Peter the Cruel!). The hall is a marvelous shining wooden dome, gilded with gold and hundreds of mirrors to create the most opulent setting.

The reason for such a dazzling display of lavish and luxurious splendor is that the Hall served as the welcoming plaza for the most important and distinguished guests of the caliph, and the Christian rulers. A visit in the present day with your private guide will invite you into the world of splendor those dignitaries received all those centuries ago.

Seville Evening Tour

Guadalquivir river and Triana district in Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain

After a full day exploring the ostentatious side of Seville, in the evening your guide will like to reveal the modern and authentic character of Seville through an evening tour of the Triana district, including dining experiences and evening entertainment.

Located on the bank of the Guadalquivir river, Triana was formerly the cultural heart of Seville where the bullfighters and flamenco dancers would gather. Over time Triana has morphed into a delightful neighborhood that gives you a real insight into Sevilla culture with fabulous gastronomy options and entertainment. After you contact our tour planners we will discuss with you the various options available to ensure that your tour of Seville ends on a high point with exactly the type of experiences you desire.

The intricate exterior of the Seville Cathedral on a cloudy day, one of the beautiful sights on my self-guided walking tour of Seville.

Seville. A unique and colorful city in the south of Spain, it is utterly captivating, with its diverse, breathtaking architecture, Mediterranean weather, and vibrant atmosphere. Want to explore its grounds? There’s no better way than through this self-guided walking tour of Seville.

But I might be biased because I love wandering around new cities on foot. Self-guided walking tours provide you with the ultimate freedom to go wherever you want to go. It also gives you the opportunity to find hidden gems and save money on transportation, so it’s great for budget travelers!

And Seville is truly an amazing city to explore on foot. There are so many things to see in Seville, and they are all within easy walking distance of each other. Plus, I had tons of fun meandering around the streets admiring the beautiful Moorish and Gothic architecture.

The detailed and intricate details on the arches of the Alcazar de Sevilla.

And with Seville’s warm Mediterranean climate, a self-guided walking tour is perfect year-round, whether you’re visiting Spain in winter or summer.

So today, I am going to outline the ultimate self-guided Seville walking tour, so you can wander around the lively streets yourself while visiting Seville’s top sights. Enjoy!

(And for those wanting a little sneak peak, here’s my Seville walking tour map).

Self-Guided Walking Tour of Seville

Before we get started on this self-guided walking tour of Seville, I just wanted to add that you can edit your own walking tour however you want. You can start in Maria Luisa Park like I do, or you can go backwards, or you can just pick and choose whichever attractions you want to stop by.

In my opinion, the best thing about walking around Seville is that there are stunning sights around every corner. No matter what, you’ll have an amazing time!

1. Maria Luisa Park (Parque de María Luisa)

  • Cost : Free
  • Hours : 8 am to 10 pm daily
  • Time Estimate : 20 minutes
  • Website : https://www.marialuisapark.com/

First, let’s start our self-guided walking tour Seville in Maria Luisa Park, or the Parque de María Luisa. A gorgeous park close to the Guadalquivir river, it is filled with lush, green trees, tiled benches, and delightful fountains.

A pond, fountain, and pink gazebo in Maria Luisa Park on a sunny day, the first stop on our walking tour of Seville.

Covering 34 hectares of land, this historic park was first opened in 1914. And, not only does it offer some of the best walks in Seville, but it is perfect for people-watching!

So, I definitely recommend starting your day off in Parque Maria Luisa. I found it to be absolutely enchanting and almost meditative to bask in the nature and charming architecture. It’s probably my favorite park in Seville, so it’s definitely a Seville must see!

2. Plaza de España

  • Hours : Open 24 hours/day
  • Time Estimate : 1 hour
  • Website : https://www.visitasevilla.es/en/history/plaza-de-espana

Next on our walking tour of Seville, head towards the Plaza de España. One of the biggest tourist attractions in Seville, this square is an architectural masterpiece.

The nearly empty Plaza de Espana in Seville Segovia on a bright morning, with the turquoise water of the canal free of boats.

170 meters long, the Plaza de Espana was built in 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition. And as you wander around, you may notice some familiar sights… because it was also a filming location for Star Wars Episode II!

Combining elements of the Renaissance and Moorish Revival styles, it may seem over-the-top to some… but I found it to be utterly breathtaking. It’s also a great place to take some fabulous pictures, so I recommend bringing your nice camera.

As you wander around the plaza, I recommend observing the beautiful tiled alcoves, as they each represent a province in Spain. You can also rent a rowboat to float along the canal (there’s a reason why the plaza is commonly referred to as “the Venice of Seville”!).

A view of the Plaza de Espana in the sun and the boats on the canal in the shade, the second stop on our walking tour of Seville.

Overall, whether you walk away thinking it’s marvelous or ostentatious, visiting the Plaza de España is a must do in Seville.

3. Royal Alcázar of Seville

  • Cost : €13.50. It costs an additional €5.50 to visit the Royal Bedroom.
  • Hours : From October 29 to March 31: 9:30 am to 6 pm daily. From April 1 to October 28: 9:30 am to 8 pm daily.
  • Time Estimate : 90 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Website : https://www.alcazarsevilla.org/en/
  • Ticket : Click here if you want to book in advance (and skip the line!).

Now, head over to the Royal Alcazar of Seville (also referred to as the Real Alcazar de Sevilla). Even if you only had one day in Seville, I would still recommend checking this lavish and stunning palace out.

The intricate, cloud-like cream arches of the Royal Alcazar of Seville in the sun.

Dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries, the Alcazar de Seville is a magnificent example of Mudéjar architecture, showcasing Islamic and Christian influences.

Additionally, the Royal Alcázar of Seville is one of the Europe’s oldest palaces still in use. It combines a plethora of different cultural and stylistic influences, including Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance, and Romanesque design.

I’m not an architecture aficionado, but I was still floored by how beautiful and intricate the palace was. Trust me, the architecture is truly outstanding, and it was one of my favorite sights in Seville. And, it’s also a Game of Thrones filming location!

The lush green gardens of the Real Alcazar of Seville filled with shrubs and palm trees, a stop on our self-guided Seville walking tour.

So, if you’re wondering what to see in Seville, Spain , the Alcazar is definitely it.

And if you’re interested in booking your ticket in advance (and skipping the interminable lines), click here.

4. Torre del Oro

  • Cost : €3.00
  • Hours : Monday to Friday: 9:30 am to 6:45 pm. Saturdays and Sundays: 10:30 am to 6:45 pm.
  • Time Estimate : 30 minutes

Next on our Seville walking route, let’s head over to the Torre del Oro, otherwise known as the Golden Tower Seville.

A view of the Torre del Oro basking in the sunlight with two white boats parked on the riverside, one of the best walks in Seville.

Housed next to the Guadalquivir river, this 36-meter high defensive tower dates back to the 13th century. Originally covered in gold tiles, it has served as a fortress, prison, and chapel over the years.

While I personally didn’t enter the tower, I still loved admiring its medieval exterior from the riverside.

It’s currently home to a naval museum (and it offers spectacular views of Seville), so if you’re interested in Seville’s naval history, check it out!

5. Plaza de Toros de Sevilla

  • Hours : 9:30 am to 7:30 pm daily.
  • Time Estimate : 30 to 60 minutes
  • Website : https://realmaestranza.com/
  • Tickets : Click here to book a tour with a professional guide and a skip-the-line ticket.

Walking along the shimmering Guadalquivir river, head over to the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla (i.e., Seville’s most famous bullring).

This portion of my free Seville walking tour is one of my favorite Seville walks, as the stroll along the river is super serene and picturesque; so, I definitely recommend taking your time!

The yellow and white Plaza de Toros de Sevilla on a sunny day.

La Maestranza is Seville’s bullring, and is considered one of the most important bullrings in Spain . Built in 1733, it is the first bullring to have an oval shape.

Now, I am absolutely not endorsing bullfighting in any shape or form. I personally didn’t enter the building, but I still found it interesting to admire from the outside. So, I still think it’s a worthwhile stop on your Seville tour.

However, if you are interested in learning more about bullfighting’s long and significant history in Spain , you can also enter and tour the place.

6. General Archive of the Indies

  • Hours : Tuesday to Saturday: 9:30 am to 4:45 pm. Sundays and public holidays: 10 am to 1:45 pm.
  • Time Estimate : 20 to 30 minutes

The next stop on our walking tour of Seville is the General Archive of the Indies, or the Archivo General de Indias.

Created in 1875, the General Archive of the Indies contains the documentation of the Council of the Indies, which was the governing body of Spain’s former empire in the Americas and the Philippines.

This makes this stop an absolute must for all history-lovers. But, if you’re in a rush or not too interested, I still recommend admiring the exterior architecture of this beautiful and grand building.

Bright photo of the stone arches of the Segovia Aqueduct on a sunny day.

Enjoying this walking tour? Then check out my self-guided walking tour to Segovia, one of the best day trips from Madrid!

7. Seville Cathedral

  • Cost : Around €10
  • Hours : Monday to Saturday: 10:45 am to 5 pm. Sundays: 2:30 pm to 6 pm.
  • Time Estimate : 60 to 90 minutes
  • Website : https://www.catedraldesevilla.es/
  • Ticket : Click here for a skip-the-line ticket.

Next stop is another must for city sightseeing Seville: the Seville Cathedral and the Giralda Tower (Catedral de Sevilla and La Giralda).

The spikes and gothic architecture of the Seville Cathedral on a cloudy day, the last official stop on my Seville self-guided walking tour.

The most breathtaking Seville church, the Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Built in the 16th century over a 12th century mosque, the Seville Cathedral still contains some Muslim influences. For instance, the Giralda Tower was initially used for the call to prayer. Renovations over the years have added even more influences, including Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-gothic styles.

A view of the Seville Cathedral and the city of Seville from the Giralda Tower on a slightly cloudy day.

The cathedral was my favorite church in Seville, with intricate architectural details and stunning stained glass windows. And don’t forget to climb up the Giralda Tower; it’ll provide a panoramic view of Seville that will surely take your breath away.

And if you want to book your tickets in advance and skip the long lines, click here.

8. (Optional) Barrio de Santa Cruz

Now, I’m going to list our next three stops as optional. This is because you might be out of time on my one day Seville itinerary, But, if not (and you have energy remaining), I definitely recommend continuing on this walking tour Seville.

So, next on my walking tour of Seville, it’s time to wander around the Barrio Santa Cruz (or the Santa Cruz District). This is the best area to stay in Seville, as it is the center for food, drinks, and shopping!

I absolutely loved perusing around this charming neighborhood, so I recommend taking some time to do so too.

With lovely Seville architecture and some of the best shops in Seville, it is easy to explore. Take your time, have a bite to eat, then continue on to our next destination: the Casa de Pilatos.

9. (Optional) Casa de Pilatos

  • Cost : €12 for the whole house, €10 for the ground floor only.
  • Hours : From November to March: 9 am to 6 pm daily. From April to October: 9 am to 7 pm daily.
  • Time Estimate : 45 minutes.
  • Website : http://www.fundacionmedinaceli.org/
  • Ticket : Click here for a ticket to the ground floor plus an audio guide.

Another Seville palace, the Casa de los Pilatos Seville is a fusion of Renaissance Italian and Mudéjar Spanish architecture, making for a unique and visually stunning experience.

A white fountain in the middle of the Casa de Pilatos square bathed in sunlight.

While it’s not actually a royal palace, this 16th century building is a civil palace. It also has intricate details both inside and outside the building, from the beautiful gardens, remarkable center fountain, and ornately decorated rooms.

If you have the time, I definitely suggest checking out the gardens and admiring the ceramic tiles inside the Casa de Pilatos Seville. If not, it’s still worth walking by on your way over to our next and final destination: the Setas de Sevilla!

10. (Optional) Setas de Sevilla – The Final Stop on our Walking Tour of Seville!

  • Cost : €10 to €15
  • Hours : 9:30 am to 12:30 am (past midnight) daily.
  • Time Estimate : 30 to 45 minutes
  • Website : https://setasdesevilla.com/en/
  • Guided Tour : Click here for a tour offering a skip-the-line ticket, knowledgeable guide, and a VR experience.

Last but not least, the final destination on our Seville walking tour is the Setas de Sevilla, or Las Setas. Known as the Seville mushroom, this structure showcases some of Seville’s more modern architecture.

The modern, wooden architecture of the Setas de Seville on a cloudy day, the last stop on my self-guided walking tour of Seville.

It’s a really cool wooden structure to look up at and admire. While I personally did not go up to the top (due to the price of tickets), I hear that it offers some breathtaking, aerial views of Seville.

It’s a great way to end our day walking in Seville, so take some time to appreciate the charming views! I hope you enjoyed your day tour around Seville.

10 of the best things to do in Seville

Continental Europe’s warmest city, Seville is a destination that has been on tourists’ radar for some time.

Year-round excellent weather, renowned attractions and a way of life that is exceedingly relaxed and enjoyable have made it popular with Brits, Europeans and Spaniards alike.

And unlike other cities in Spain , visitors only need to spend three days in Seville to experience its best bits; a long weekend break gives you enough time to see the headline sights, and you won’t leave feeling exhausted (unless you’ve come during the sweltering summer months).

The pre-eminent landmarks include Unesco-listed monuments, one of the world’s largest cathedrals and palaces that date back over a millennium.

A vibrant park and the banks of the Guadalquivir give the city some beautiful natural sites, while a slew of lesser-seen neighbourhoods and an abundance of cultural flair are visible in its festivals and traditions such as flamenco dancing. To help you make the most of your stay, we’ve rounded up the best things to do in the Pearl of Andalusia.

Tour the Alcazar

Despite its impressive cathedral, most will agree that Seville’s premier tourist attraction is the Real Alcazar. This palace complex, a fusion of Islamic and Christian architecture, traces its roots back to the 10th century, with several additions giving it its different Moorish, Mudejar, Gothic, Renaissance and even Romanesque features.

The complex contains several different palaces, each linked by large courtyards and extensive gardens filled with typically Andalusian plants and trees. Different palaces have different features – the Cuarto Real Alto still hosts members of the royal family when they visit Seville, while the Palacio Gotico has vaulted halls adorned with large tapestries – but the highlight is the Palacio de Don Pedro, replete with intricate tile work, beautiful arches, magnificent domes, plaster work brought from the Alhambra and even gold ceilings.

Visit the Maria Luisa Park and Plaza de Espana

The 84-acre Maria Luisa park is more than just a verdant oasis that locals use to escape the summer heat (or go for runs and picnics in spring). Itself a mix of Iberian and Moorish architectural and design influences, it is another monument to the city’s history, and the various gardens and buildings within it – that were built for the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929 – are still-standing remnants that tell their own stories of the city’s history, culture and architecture.

Chief among these structures is the Plaza de Espana, a vast, borderline over-the-top plaza bisected by a canal and Venetian-styled bridges, and featuring intricate brick-and-tile pavilions and arched colonnades. Local and tourists alike spend time walking through the shaded walkways, admiring the alcoves (that depict a historical event from each of Spain’s provinces) and rowing on the canal (boats can be hired for an hour for €6 (£5).

View the cathedral and ascend Giralda Tower

The largest Gothic cathedral in the world stands upon the ruins of a Moorish mosque, a metaphor for Spain’s often tumultuous history and a reminder of the role of different religious groups in defining the Andalusian capital. It features giant, stained-glass windows, numerous examples of Gothic ornamentation, a giant gold altarpiece and even paintings from Goya and Murillo, but the highlight is probably the tomb of Christopher Columbus, held aloft by four statues of knights.

Attached to the cathedral is the Giralda bell tower, which used to be a minaret in the aforementioned mosque, and now stands at over 100 metres tall. It offers sweeping views over the city’s old Jewish quarter and the Alcazar; general entry for both is priced at €12 (£10.30).

Stroll along the river

The Guadalquivir River has played a pivotal role in the development of both Seville and Spain itself, being the only major navigable river in the country. While it once enabled trade and dramatic growth for the city, it is now a blissfully calm, scenic area that invites long walks, quick strolls from the centre and a range of river cruises.

When strolling along the banks, be sure to walk to the Torre de Oro, another of Seville’s main landmarks. Dating back to the 13th century, this 10-sided structure was built by the area’s Moorish rulers as part of the city walls, and today houses a small maritime museum and a viewing platform.

Catch a flamenco show

Andalusia is the birthplace of flamenco, and there’s no better place to see a performance than in the regional capital. It originated in the late 18th century, and has since been classed by Unesco as a masterpiece of intangible heritage. Modern-day shows combine musical acts with intense, extravagant dancing; performances are either in troupes or, in more intimate shows called tablaos , by a single performer who takes to the stage as you have dinner.

The Triana district is the centre of flamenco in Seville, and venues such as Teatro Flamenco Triana, T de Triana and La Carboneria are all popular. More centrally, Los Gallos is one of the most reputed tablaos , while the Museo del Baile Flamenco allows guests to learn about the history of the tradition before watching a performance.

Be part of the Feria de Abril

Seville is home to two different nationally famous celebrations, both with drastically different vibes. Around Easter, Semana Santa (Holy Week) makes the city a more serene, pensive and somewhat serious place, but two weeks later, the Feria de Abril (April Fair) turns almost all of Seville into a fairground. Striped tents called casetas line the streets, hosting raucous, often all-night celebrations, with regular bullfights in the vast Plaza de Toros and plenty of revellers decked out in traditional costumes. Don’t be surprised to see some residents riding around on horseback or in carriages either.

The heart of the Feria is known as the ‘Real de Feria’, and extends for 24 blocks in the area between Los Remedios and Tablado. This is where the ‘Hell Street’ amusement park is located, as well as the majority of tents; most of these are private and run by local families and businesses, but there are plenty of free-to-enter tents for visitors, including two municipal ones and one for each district of the city.

Discover more of the city

Though the historic centre of the city, a neighbourhood known as Santa Cruz, is where most of the main sights are – along with many bars, restaurants, cafes and the main shopping areas – a quick wander in any direction will take you to cobbled streets lined with locals having an extended family lunch or meeting a couple of friends for some tapas. Alfalfa and Arenal are two such barrios , bordering Santa Cruz but offering a little more peace and many of the city’s best hotels, bars and tapas joints.

For nightlife, there is one clear winner. Alameda is one of the more trendy neighbourhoods, where bars and clubs open until the early hours of the morning on the Avenida de Alameda.

For more of a local’s experience, head across the Guadalquivir to Triana. This area attracts visitors wanting to see the best of the city’s flamenco shows, as well as those wanting to pick up a ceramic souvenir in workshops around Antillano Campos street, such as Ceramica Triana.

See the Casa de Pilatos

One of Seville’s most unique landmarks is a 16th-century structure that has blended Mudejar, Baroque and Renaissance elements to create a magnificent civil palace akin to a smaller Alcazar.

At the centre lies an impressive marble courtyard, and there is access to exterior gardens, but the highlights are the intricate geometric patterns used throughout, as well as the ornate wooden features and over 100 different azulejo tile designs. Upstairs, visitors can tour some artworks belonging to the Medinaceli family. Tickets to the whole house, including the artworks, cost €12 (£10.30).

Discover a great range of art and history

Seville has a range of art to rival most Spanish cities, and the undeniable highlight is the Museo de Bellas Artes, where visitors can view works from the Middle Ages right up to the 20th century, including pieces from famed Spaniards like Velazquez and Goya.

At the other end of the scale, the city’s contemporary art gallery is the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo, where an extensive collection of modern Hispanic works sits alongside spaces for concerts, events and temporary exhibitions.

For history buffs, two museums stand out. The Archivo de Indios contains thousands of documents relating to the Spanish Age of Discovery and the empire – including maps and letters from Columbus – while the Museum of Art and Popular Customs is dedicated to Andalusian heritage. Admission to all of the above ranges from free to €1.80.

Officially known as the Metropol Parasol complex, Las Setas – “The Mushrooms” – is the largest wooden structure in the world. Loved by some locals and loathed by others, it has become a modern symbol of Seville, and is a contemporary architectural highlight.

Somewhat out of place among older buildings and squares, this 28-metre tall structure now offers panoramic views over Seville from its rooftop walkways, with a market and cafe on the ground below and a museum displaying Roman and medieval artefacts in the basement.

Catch a game

For football fans, the presence of two of Spain’s major teams in the city offers great opportunities to see a match (especially as one is guaranteed to be playing in the city during most weekends in the season). Sevilla are the city’s main team, slightly more well-known and successful than their rivals, but Real Betis is a cult club, with their home games taking place at the magnificent Benito Villamarin stadium. In 2024, the La Liga season ends in late May, starting up again in mid-August.

What people love about spain tours from seville.

Loved our self drive tour in Andalusia.
Very well organised tour. The route notes were extremely detailed and helpful as the route was quite complicated some days - presumably to avoid busy roads. However the country wasn’t good for enjoyable cycling, being treeless and agricultural, and apart from the White Villages I really only enjoyed the scenery on the third day from Montellano to Arcos when the route went through the hills and along the river on a good Via Verde. On the last day getting out of Jerez took an hour then soon after it was semi-industrial wasteland. The Via Verde between Seville and Carmona was in terrible condition with deep ruts and sand. I was also unlucky to get a flat- the seal at the tube valve failed- and I had terrible trouble changing the tube- the plastics levers not strong enough and the pump nozzle completely stuck. I left a note to the bike hire.
The tour covers the "Andalusian Trinity" of Seville, Cordoba, and Granada. Accommodations in Seville were lovely, but about 5 k outside town, too far to walk. There was a bus that went to Plaza de Espana. The accommodations in Granada were also far from the center and a bit past their prime but right on the tram and bus lines. The car was brand new and comfortable. The hotel in Seville was luxe. The one in Grenada had seen better days.Cordoba was a nightmare as our visit coincided with the Fiesta de Flores and the streets and parking lots were mobbed. The highlight was the Alhambra in Grandada (not included, book in advance). I did not see any "value added" for booking through tourradar. The next time, I will just reserve the rooms and rent a car myself.
