Hi, I was born in Firenze and I lived my childhood in a medieval village called Castelfranco di Sopra. I have lived in Tuscany all my life, and it has become part of my soul. It’s a place I love and respect, and it never ceases to take my breath away. Few scenes are more evocative of  Italy  than that of rural Tuscany, undulating hills, dotted with stoic stone farm houses, dark green cypress trees and ranked vines, all under a shawl of a dawn’s mist.

Recognisable over shoulder of countless Renaissance Madonnas, Tuscany has long drawn enamoured visitors, each after culture, wine, fine food and tangible history. All are elements that abound across Italy, but here are uniquely distilled between the Apennine Mountains and the sea.

The whole region was built on Etruscan and Roman roots, and whilst in  Florence  the Renaissance reigns, out in the countryside the old towns perched on hill tops retain the honest rustico charm of the Medieval. Masterpieces from both ages can be found in unmatched concentrations in Tuscany, tucked away in churches, museums and galleries all over the region.

Pisa has more to offer than its skewed tower; the Duomo, Baptistery and Camposanto complete a stunning quartet of medieval triumphs. Siena’s scallop-shaped piazza, flanked by soft orange townhouses and Torre del Mangia, is one of the most idyllic public spaces (except perhaps during the infamous biannual Palio di Siena horse race). Towns seeming untouched by time, such as Montalcino, Pienza and San Gimignano, sit scattered across the region amidst golden wheat fields, silver olive groves and ancient vineyards, each with their own charms.

The food and wine here enjoys a similarly unpretentious integrity. Tuscans are enormously proud of their culinary traditions and their locally sourced, seasonal produce. Encompassing the Chianti region, Tuscany can also claim to produce some of the finest wines in Italy.

We arrived on the NCL Epic. Wanting to have some control over our time rather than the cruise tours, we decided on using BellaItalia. This turned out to be a GREAT decision! A minivan with driver was booked for the day to transport 6 adults. The driver was excellent and provided fun and interesting information as we made the drive from the port to Florence. He even shared jis favorite gelato spot and coffee spot, both of which added fun to our day. Our driver and van were easy to find as we entered the port building. The van was a recent model Mercedes in very good shape making for a comfortable drive. BellaItalia arranged for our museum tickets in advance and all went smoothly. We made changes to our schedule through the day as distractions made for some enjoyable opportunities. Having a private driver made this possible. We HIGHLY recommend BellaItalia and will use them each time we are near Florence. Thank you to the entire staff at BellaItalia for a wonderful experience.

Our group of 6 ladies had a highly enjoyable day on the Private Chianti tour. Our driver, Massimo was prompt and attentive in picking us up in our hotel lobby and he was an excellent navigator through the tricky Tuscan roads. He was very knowledgeable on many things Tuscan, and as a sommelier, he educated us on the Chianti wine before we even arrived at the winery. We toured the vineyard and then had a long tasting that included a generous assortment of cold cuts, cheese and bread. In addition to Chianti, we also tasted their dessert wine, Vin Santo and their olive oil, all were very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would highly recommend this tour and specifically our tour director/driver Massimo.

We had a great time on our tour. The guide, Veronica, was waiting for us when we got off the ship. It was rainy most of the morning, so the ferries were not running at Cinque Terre. She was great about working around the weather issues and making sure we still had a great time. The driver was awesome too. Great tour company!

Buongiorno Enrico, We are now back in Boston recovering from a fabulous trip. I thank you very much for your excellent choices of hotels and sights to visit. Rome: The Golf cart tour was a very big success and given how tired the children were from their day of flying it was a perfect way to spend their first evening. Hotel: This was my favorite. The location and ambience were exactly what I had hoped for. Vatican tour: This was exceptional and our guide for this also joined us the next day for the ruins. Florence: Our day in Tuscany was wonderful. Our driver made arrangements for us to have a lunch at a local winery and it was delightful. This children loved the view and the lunch. Cooking class: The chef was so good with the children. Lou and I watched, this was our choice, we wanted to watch the children cook. We stayed quite late because our host was so interesting and did not rush us at all. The Academia and Pisa were both successful and enjoyed. Venice: Although you could not order us perfect weather. Venice gave us the relief from the heat and we had a very successful walking tour. The hotel was very nice and the location was so easy to locate and enjoyable with the view of the water.
