Tee Pee Tours – 5 Step Process

Step 1: first contact: your call, your tour: planning your ideal experience.

After we receive your online contact form or your booking form or you’ve called on  0423 237 833 , our friendly staff will discuss your requirements in detail. We will send options, prices and itinerary options either via email or text.

Whether it’s a wine tour, day trip, brewery tour, hens or bucks party, we’re here to tailor-make the perfect tour for you. Next, we’ll email or text a little more to just get it absolutely perfect for your day out. Some groups can be happy with the very first itinerary we talk about and this process is done in one email. Others want to explore all sorts of options. Either way, we are here for it! After we get a better understanding of your interests, group size and personal style, we’re more than happy to provide some recommendations. We’ll then confirm where you want to go, what you’re really looking for (Unless ‘half day tour is important?)

Step 2: Make your booking to get the plan locked in

Once we’ve laid out the perfect plan for your day, we’ll send you the details for your approval. After making any necessary changes, we’ll get you to make a booking by paying a deposit on our website by clicking ‘Book Here’, then ‘Private Tours’. This is a non-refundable $100 deposit.

Once this booking is made and the plan is set, we then immediately book all of the venues discussed, allocate a vehicle, a driver and make sure everything is locked in. Sometimes people go straight to this step without contacting us, so we will make sure we get a plan going ASAP after you’ve booked.

Rest assured, our tours are flexible and we’re always happy to tweak things to make sure your day is exactly as you imagined.

Step 3: Rounding up the Troops

From the moment we have received your $100 deposit, things are locked in. We have got everything ready on our end. It’s now your job to start getting everyone organised and find out what your final numbers will be. We also recommend checking for any dietary requirements, finalising the pickup and drop off address, and any other minor details that we may need to know.

If everyone is paying for themselves, then we recommend collecting payments from them ASAP so we can get a good idea on numbers early. It’s in everyone’s best interest for this number to be communicated honestly, realistically, and frequently. The number of people dictates the price, the vehicle we use and the driver who can drive that vehicle.

Step 4: The Week Before and the Final Email

7 days before the tour, we will email you to give you all the very final details so you won’t have any more questions. This final email will include the driver’s details, the itinerary, rules expected behaviours, vehicle details and payment instructions. Payment will be via bank transfer/invoice or a payment link can be sent.

We do not require full payment until 2 days before the tour. Once payment is made and we are all good to go, there’s nothing left to do, except drink!

Step 5: The Day of Your Tour

On the day of your tour, our professional and friendly staff will be there to pick you up and drop you off wherever we have discussed and planned. Our guides provide recommendations, plenty of banter and overall, make sure everything runs smoothly. We have a bit of a common sense approach to the day.

If we feel something isn’t working…or that people need more of this or less of this, we are always happy to add a few bottles on the table, or a cheese platter …or whatever we think is reasonable. We want to make sure this is the best day ever so you’ll join us once again!

We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We believe that running a tour is about creating the best possible atmosphere, one that’s relaxed, flexible, sociable, and inclusive. We put an emphasis on getting everyone to connect..and not in a lame cheesy way. Through organic conversation, or a communal playlist, We Get People Talking. We offer end-to-end transportation and let you decide where we go and how long we stay. Plus, our tour durations are very adaptable.

Does Tee Pee Tours cater to people who are not very interested in wine?

Of course! While we specialise in wine tours, we understand that not everyone’s a wine lover. That’s why we offer a range of alternatives including behind-the-scenes looks at Victorian restaurants, estates, breweries, and distilleries.

I'm a seasoned wine enthusiast. Can Tee Pee Tours offer me a unique experience?

Definitely! We offer personalised wine tours, where we tailor the itinerary to match your preferences. This also comes with direct access to local wine makers and hands-on wine making activities. Even if some people in the group don’t love wine and others absolutely love it, we can pick places where we can split the group up. This is usually easy as some of the places are literally next door to one another. We know the Melbourne Wine regions so well that we know exactly where the wine-enthusiast will appreciate things, and where the others will find ways to enjoy it too.

Exploring the Area

The Macedon Ranges wine region comprises an expansive peaceful and scenic area of elevated plains and mountain ranges adjoining spectacular Mount Macedon. The region encompasses parts of the picturesque Great Dividing Range and Central Victorian Highlands.

Less than an hour from Melbourne, and featuring the iconic Hanging Rock, the vineyards of Macedon Ranges are found between 400 – 700 metres above sea level. The wines of this region are marketed under the Macedon name; a brand that is rapidly gaining recognition both nationally and internationally. Our daily wine tours to the Macedon Ranges winery district from Melbourne are extremely popular and provide guests an opportunity to experience one of Australia’s most unique and picturesque wine growing regions.

Cellar door visits provide an opportunity to meet the minds behind the delicious wines you will be sampling. Don’t be surprised if the winemakers themselves are pouring your tasting glass!

The Macedon region is known for it’s sparkling wines, primarily made from a mixture of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. There are over 40 wineries scattered throughout the Macedon Ranges wine region; you are sure to find a good mixture of varietals and wine making styles, especially from some of the better known boutique wineries led by some of Australia’s most venerable wine pioneers.

A cold wine region

The Macedon wine region is cool to cold by world standards. In fact, due to elevation and wind-chill factor the Macedon Ranges is the coldest grape growing-region in mainland Australia. This results in wines of exceptional quality, though often limited in quantity. Many of the most outstanding wines from this region can only be sourced at the cellar door.

Like all high quality wine growing regions, Macedon Ranges district wines reflect the topography and climate of the area. The Great Dividing Range forms a natural watershed dividing the Macedon Ranges wine region into two distinct but related areas. Both areas are formed on volcanic soil and attract above average amounts of winter rain. The long cool summers and autumns create ideal conditions for extended ripening periods of the fruit, resulting in one of the latest ripening vintages to occur anywhere in Australia.

The predominant characteristics of the grapes grown in this region has been described as a combination of lively acidity and steely backbone. The granite hills and sandstone soils of the region tend to produce intense but delicate fruit characteristics and soft tannins in the red wines. The balance of alcohol, acidity and fruit complexity makes Macedon wines a superb match for a wide range of food.

Visit Macedon Ranges Wineries and Cellar Doors

A visit to the Macedon Ranges is one of the most delightful day trips from Melbourne you will experience. Our daily Macedon Ranges rages wine tours visit 4 or 5 memorable Macedon Ranges wineries and cellar doors. This tour is available weekends for private group bookings.

WE’LL VISIT THREE OF THE FOLLOWING VENUES, OFFERING AN IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCE AT EACH LOCATION.

  • Chevron down Mount Macedon Winery

Located on the western slopes of Mount Macedon, with impressive views overlooking the Black Forest Valley, MMW sits at 680m above sea level, making it one of the highest-altitude wineries in Australia.

  • Chevron down Mount Towrong Vineyard

Situated at 600 metres above sea level with direct views of Mount Macedon and Mount Towrong, this cool climate vineyard enjoys moderate seasonal rainfall. Terracing the vineyard has allowed us to maximise the use of the gentle slopes and by practising sustainable farming techniques, we have able to harvest high quality grapes with a low yield. Our Vineyard is farmed with the use of organic composts with no pesticides or herbicides used. Winter prunings are mulched back into the mid rows. All vines are cane pruned and grapes are handpicked.

  • Chevron down Hanging Rock Winery

Our story begins in 1982, a time when no-one in Australia was making cool climate, traditional method, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sparkling wine. John and Ann loved champagne, especially the richer styles of Bollinger and Krug, so they decided this would be the pioneering wine they would pursue.

Following extensive research, they decided to settle on the Macedon Ranges – arguably Australia’s coldest winemaking region. As fate would have it, the perfect block came up for sale; south facing, 650m elevation, steep gradient and beautiful views.

The couple bought the bare block of land, know as ‘Jim Jim’ and got to work!

  • Chevron down Lyons Will Estate

Lyons Will Estate is a family operation. Oliver and Renata craft their wines together and everything is done by hand, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and traditional wine making techniques. Their ethos is simple: ‘look after the vines and the vines will look after the wine’. Good grapes coupled with a minimalist winemaking approach results in a good honest wine with a great acid balance and a clean linear finish.

  • Chevron down The Wine Collective

The Wine Collective is situated in a natural bush setting with views across to Melbourne. Our balcony is the perfect place for that special photo and a glass of wine in the warmer months. Fireplaces warm you in winter.  Our aim is to provide an amazing experience for our customers.  We aim to create a memorable experience through a partnership of wine, food and views.

  • Chevron down Mount Monument Cellar Door

The Macedon Ranges is the coldest wine growing area on mainland Australia.

It’s also one of the smallest wine regions in Australia, producing less than 1,000 tonnes of fruit per annum.

Approximately 70% of the region is Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. These 3 varieties are some of the most elusive, enjoying and challenging varieties for winemakers to grow and make.

The majority of vineyards in Macedon are high elevation, averaging 600m+.

Macedon has a good reliable rainfall.

  • Chevron down Musk Lane Wine

Our story is short so far, having started the label in 2015. We prefer to let the wines do the talking anyways.

The focus is to always produce wines that are honest, interesting and with soul. We believe a lo-fi approach to both our winemaking and viticultural practices enables us to achieve this goal.

In 2019 we picked up the keys to our new home in Kyneton, the old timber yard of the Turner Bros. Hardware precinct in the centre of town. A gorgeous place steeped in history that blurs the lines between urban winery, cellar door, neighbourhood wine bar and beer garden.

We scrambled together enough equipment and barrels and produced all our 2019 wines here – free to express and experiment, there’s some exciting wines coming through now.

  • Chevron down Hunter Gatherer Winery

Handcrafted by Macedon Ranges based winemaker Brian Martin, the Hunter-Gatherer range of wines encompass ideals of a faithful expression of terroir. While he taps into his experience of sound technical winemaking techniques, the process remains largely “hands-off” to let the characteristics of the fruit shine.

The signature Hunter-Gatherer range includes Sparkling Pinot Chardonnay, Riesling, Chardonnay, Rose, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Sparkling Shiraz.

Grapes are sourced predominantly from the Hunter-Gatherer vineyard which was purchased by Brian and his wife Roslyn in 2015 and contains a 5-hectare planting of 20+-year-old Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Merlot.

However, as the name suggests, Brian is known to “Hunt & Gather” exceptional fruit from reputable neighbouring producers to showcase varietals that thrive in other corners of the Macedon Ranges and Heathcote wine regions.

Please note that venues may change due to availability. Food is available at each venue.
