Awards

On our Secret Beer Tour: Discover the revival in London's brewing history. From learning about the history of beer at the sight of what was once history’s largest brewery to meeting the team at a micro brewery on the legendary Bermondsey Beer mile, a street that’s home to 16 craft breweries. We'll start the tour in an historic tap house before working our way to some of the funkiest craft beer drinking holes in the city. There will be Nine beers that you'll try on the tour, so arrive well fed.

  • Kick off the tour in a 17th century tap room by the banks of the Thames discovering the history of beer over a traditional British Ale.

Vocuher

The craft beer will visit 3/4 venues and include on average around 7 samples of beer. Each sample is the equivalent of a small glass of beer. The total amount that this would accumulate to throughout the tour would be approximately 3 pints. We highly recommended having a substantial meal before the tour as no food is included. There will be an opportunity to eat at the end of the tour and our guide will happily recommend a few options. During the tour you will have the opportunity to purchase salty snacks from the venues.

As the emphasis on this tour is on alcoholic beverages, this tour is not suitable for families with children under 18. However our food tour is child and family friendly and a great option for children over 6.

As this tours emphasis is on alcoholic beverages, this tour would not be suitable for anyone that does not drink alcohol.

We strongly recommend purchasing our Food Upgrade to accompany your drinking during the tour. Failing that, there will be an opportunity to eat at the end of the tour at a sustainable market with many, many international food options available to purchase independently. Our guide will happily recommend a few of these. During the tour you will have the opportunity to purchase salty snacks from the venues.

If you are a group of 6 people, a student or work for a tour company then you can email us. We will be more than happy to give you a discount. [email protected]

Our tours are often sold out very quickly. If the date you requested is not available, please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] and we can see if there is anything we can do. We cannot promise but we will try our best to sort something for you.

To join our Secret Beer Tours, you should wear comfortable shoes. There will be around 30 mins of walking, however the majority of time will be spent in the actual venues.

You don't have to print your voucher. Confirmation on your phone will be fine!

We take Mon - Wed - 16 pax max and Thu - Sat - 16 pax max. If you are more than 16 people, please do not hesitate to email us and we will try to see if we can accommodate.

All of our vouchers expire one year from the date of purchase.

Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable in London. We do not issue refunds as per our terms and conditions. We also inform you that we never cancel a booking even if we have only 2 people! However we do reserve the right to cancel the tour if we feel the weather is extreme, and we cannot run the tour due to this for more info see our Terms and Conditions: https://www.secretfoodtours.com/terms-and-conditions/

You must book directly on our website. We do not accept cash payments. Our online payment is safe, secured and SSL protected.

The booking fee that you have to pay is up to our ticket provider and we can't change it. All our clients need to pay for it upon booking. The booking fee charged contributes to the cost of the ticketing system to provide an excellent service to our customers.

A few banks have charged their customer an extra fee while booking with us (this isn't the booking fee but another fee added by the bank). We think this is unfair, if this happens let us know by showing us in your bank statement and we will refund this fee as a gesture of good will.

The 12 Best Places to Drink Craft Beer in London

 Redchurch Brewery

There's no shortage of pubs in London. From traditional boozers to speakeasy-style bars, the city offers a heady selection of watering holes in which to sink a pint. And the capital is currently going through something of a craft beer revolution with a focus on microbrews and local ales. Quench your thirst with this guide to London's craft beer scene and plot a self-guided pub crawl to taste the best brews in town. Cheers to that!

Redchurch Brewery

Named after Redchurch Street in Shoreditch, this east London brewery produces bottles with names that celebrate the local area like Hoxton Stout, Brick Lane Lager and Bethnal Pale Ale. Head to the mezzanine bar above the brewing equipment to taste your way through the menu. Food stalls often set up shop out front and there are regular live bands and DJs.

Weird Beard Brew Co

Weird Beard Brew Co.

Founded in 2013 by two hop-loving home brewers, this west London brewery was founded in 2013 and produces experimental, hand-crafted beer. The core line up includes the popular Five O'Clock Shadow, an American-style 7% ABV IPA and seasonal beers are produced throughout the year including Black Christmas, a festive stout brewed with cranberries.

Beavertown Brewery

Inspired by Brooklyn brews, Beavertown Brewery owner Logan Plant (the son of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant) first started brewing using a 50 liter rice pan at home before opening a small brew house in Duke's Brew and Que restaurant in 2011. The brewery now operates from an industrial estate in Tottenham and sells cans and bottles emblazoned with arguably the coolest designs in town.

Canopy Beer Co

Under a railway arch in south London's Herne Hill, Canopy Beer produces small-batch beers named after local areas including Brockwell IPA and Milkwood Amber. The Tap Room serves brews made on site and there's an outdoor seating area where occasional street food pop-ups sell snacks.

Camden Town Brewery

See how top beers including Camden Hells Lager and Camden Pale Ale are brewed by joining a tour of the Camden Town Brewery in Kentish Town. Either drop in on a Saturday between 1 and 2 p.m. for a 30-minute informal tour or book a tour in advance on Thursday or Saturday for a more in-depth look at brewing techniques and the chance to taste several beers straight from the tank.

Meantime Brewing Company

One of the pioneers of London's craft beer scene, the Meantime Brewing Company was set up in 2000 and the brewery's core beers, including London Lager and London Pale Ale are stocked in hundreds of pubs across the capital. The brewery tours at their sizable site in Greenwich start or finish with a tutored tasting and there's a shop and a bar on site.

London Fields Brewery

Between Thursday and Sunday, London Fields Brewery open their doors to offer an insight into how their award-winning beers are produced. The tours take around an hour and include a tutored beer tasting in the Tap Room. Upgrade to a Craft Brewery Experience for a hands-on brewing demonstration and a three-course beer and food pairing meal.

The Understudy at the National Theatre, South Bank

With a stellar location right on the South Bank, this stylish bar is part of the National Theatre and is a top spot for pre- or post-theatre refreshments. Sip a pint from a London brewery (the bar stocks brews from Five Points Brewing Co and Redchurch Brewery among others) and soak up views of the River Thames. There are plenty of sliders on offer to pair with drinks.

Crate Brewery

Crate Brewery

Hop-loving hipsters flock to this waterfront bar and pizzeria near the Olympic Stadium to sup beers brewed on site. See how they're made with a tour of the Brewshed to learn about the brewing process, sample hops and malt and enjoy a number of tastings.

Earl of Essex, Islington

This handsome Georgian pub in Islington is a popular spot for serious beer drinkers. The keg and cask line up changes regularly but the menu features around 18 different beers at any one time, many of which are brewed in London. Food is served all day and all dishes include beer matching suggestions.

Mother Kelly's, Hackney

Mother Kelly's

In a railway arch in Bethnal Green, this New York-inspired tap room and shop stocks an impressive array of beers brewed in the capital and across the globe. The menu of beers available on tap changes regularly and there are 19 taps serving all sorts of different styles, including limited edition brews. Sharing plates are available and street food vendors congregate outside every weekend.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Given its Covent Garden location and impressive beer selection (including 10 hand pumps), the crowds at the Harp often spill out into the street. If you can make it to the bar, order a classic cask ale or one of the rotating guest brews and pair with a hearty bar snack.

London’s best craft beer bars and pubs

The watering holes with the best selection of craft beers from breweries both near and far

Craft beer – interesting, progressive beers made by small-scale breweries, and distinct from real ale – is often explosively hoppy and quite unlike traditional British beer. An increasing number of London bars and pubs are specialising in them – from brewery taprooms to down-to-earth pubs . Here's our pick of places that are top of the hops.

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

  • City of London

The Arbitrager

A quick taster Smart, stylish and moody, with loads of London pride (not on tap, thankfully).

Make mine… There’s usually something from west London experimentalists Weird Beard on tap – fans of bold flavours and high ABVs should start here.

The Beer Shop

The Beer Shop

A quick taster Casual, convivial and warmer than a hug from Chewbacca.

Make mine… If it’s value for money you seek, whatever’s strongest – the three cask offerings are always £3.50, regardless of ABV.

Beer Rebellion

  • Crystal Palace

Beer Rebellion

A quick taster A well-stocked bar whose parent brewery recently went under, freeing up tap space for a more exciting line-up of beers.

Make mine… Fourpure’s beers are everywhere these days, but its more adventurous brews are well worth trying, and many of them end up here.
