Located close to the Eros Airport which was a plus however the accommodation was poor

The bed was quite hard and pillows lumpy. Shower is very low. Did not manage to sleep majority of the night and was in pain the next day. Was moved to Movenpick for the next two nights and that was much better than Mercure.

We checked into the hotel late after a longs day’s drive. We were told by reception that we had to wait for only a few minutes for the room to be inspected which turned into 15 minutes. We have never experienced this before particularly for a 4 star hotel. The bellman told us the room had not been cleaned and was surprised at the level of service. Then at dinner our drinks sind not arrive at the same time, we had to ask for one of the drinks which was forgotten. We ordered a salad (which was extremely sweet and inedible) and a pizza which was cold by the time the salad arrived. Our server spoke with the pizza chef who simply put the pizza back in the oven but the server refused to serve it to us and rightly so. The server then argued with the pizza chef who was not prepared to remake the pizza so we had to speak with the pizza chef. Unacceptable for this establishment.

From arrival to departure all the staff were welcoming, extremely helpful and friendly. The room and facilities were fabulous with a very high degree of attention to detail. The hotel is a short taxi ride from The Grove Mall where you can get anything from a haircut to groceries or a meal. The city centre is also a short cab ride and local tours, such as Linda's city tour or game drive, can be arranged at the front desk. The hotel meals, restaurant and outdoor eating areas are also excellent with always smiling, attentive but unobtrusive staff.

Staff delightful. Hotel is split into 2, Mercure has the wining and dining, Movenpick on the other side of the carpark has the pool/spa. Perfectly nice accommodation. Menu not extensive but good selection for drinks. Ideal for a short stay.

Fine for one nights stay”

We used the hotel as a stopover before flying out of Windhoek the following day and it was…fine. Don’t be lured in by the Accor branding; the hotel is clearly run under the license but the property looks and feels dated, the cleanliness is average, the breakfast buffet mediocre (so much of the food was cold) and some of the staff could do with a customer service 1-0-1.

A night in Windhoek is recommended at the start or end of a Namibia holiday . Its a compact urban centre where there is sufficient on offer to keep visitors busy for a day or two.

You could visit Katatura township and the Xwama cultural village on a private Windhoek tour. For some shopping, there is the Town Square Mall, Levinson Arcade and Wernhil Centre. There is a good selection of restaurants and bars. In the eastern part of the city, Klein Windhoek, is Bougain Villias Shopping Centre, with its arts and craft shops and cafes. Also in Klein Windhoek is the 12ha National Botanical Garden, where you can see an excellent selection of the country's endemic flora.

Galleries and museums worth trying to incorporate a visit to include Alte Feste and State Museum, where you can gain an insight into Namibia's history. Look out for the display on rock art and beadwork. The National Art Gallery may be worth a stop for its exhibition of Namibian art.

Daan Viljoen Selfcatering is situated right next to the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve about 20 km west of Windhoek. This private cottage is perfect for visitors who prefer to spend their first or last night of their safari in nature, but close to Windhoek. The cottage has one cozy bedroom, a modern, spacious bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a open terrace with barbeque facilities and a beautiful view of the surrounding nature.

The cottage is only a three minute drive away from the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve entrance where you are able to do a game drive, go for a nature walk or hiking trail.
