Trip computer 1&2

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between trip computer 1 and 2 in the dash? Also can one delete trip computer 2 as I'd like to have just one? Tia.

trip computer 1 ford focus

They both work the same. I use one to track mileage between oil changes and the other for "Tank Mileage" You would be amazed at the difference at times. The other side is I know how long the oil has been in the car... Short of re-programing the dash I wouldn't think it can be deleted. I use my car for business trips so I have thought about using one of them to keep track of my business trips.

trip computer 1 ford focus

No difference. Both the same and it’s up to you when to reset them per your preference. Doubt one can be deleted. I really wish one of them would automatically reset for each trip - like my VW does. #1 info slot resets after the car has been off for two hours and for #2 the user manually resets (I used this for per tank information).

trip computer 1 ford focus

It's pretty easy to just ignore, I like that they run in tandem, where my 13 ST was either or which I thought was useless. I'm sure it could be set, I use two as long term mpg avg and miles to oil and one gets reset on the tank. A person with the knowhow maybe able to alter that display but it's not likely worth it in risk or effort. Sent from my BBA100-1 using Tapatalk

trip computer 1 ford focus

My goal was to use one as a per-tank counter and let the other one show info over the life of the car, but I found that those counters don't persist through system resets. Removing the battery and software updates at the dealership have both wiped them, so instead I moniter one that I reset every fill up and I ignore the other.

trip computer 1 ford focus

My trip two slot has every mile, 9128 since the car was taken out of transport mode by the dealer. Average mpg isn't too bad at 20.5 but that will drop back down when fall gets Here, last winter it was down in the 18 mpg range.

trip computer 1 ford focus

I do the same with mine. I use 1 to track how mile mpg and all varies from tank to tank and reset each fill up. I've been doing this for years actually with a spreadsheet in my phone I always update when I get gas. Takes 5 seconds and I can budget almost to the dollar what my gas will be each month for my truck, car, and boat ? I showed it to a friend and he thought I was crazy but not going to lie it's interesting to see how gas prices have fluctuated over the years and the differences I get in various types of gas* Trip 2 I never reset. Just leave it to occasionally look at lifetime averages. *after about a year of following the gas and range I got in my Mazda3, I started only using sonoco.

Is there any difference between Trip 1 and Trip 2 on the trip computer?

  • Add to quote

On most cars there's a difference, like Trip 1 is "this trip" and Trip 2 is "trip since last reset". And sometimes "MPG since last fillup", but on this car they both seem to act the same "trip since last reset" Also everything has to be reset individually, there's no "reset trip" feature. I wish there was a automatic trip reset for one of them. How many people get in their car and manually go through and reset all of the trip functions? Am I missing something?

trip computer 1 ford focus

If you are I am.

I think the term for issues of blatantly stupid programming like this is "undocumented features". I'm guessing that someone's idiot son has a job he shouldn't.

trip computer 1 ford focus

Yes.

trip computer 1 ford focus

I don't see why this is an issue, I can think of plenty of times I'd want two trip meters. Most common? I'm running one for fill ups, and the other a business trip that I get reimbursed for.

Well that's fine if that's what you want but... a) it doesn't automatically reset one for the fill-ups (like our Honda does) b) that's not what I want How hard would it have been to add an option "reset Trip 1 at start of journey"? and maybe an option for "reset Trip 1 at fill-up" then we both get what we want

trip computer 1 ford focus

Another reason, is when you are running one for a fill up and the other for trip measurements. Maybe not as important with nav though. Wes

I use one for fillups and the other for oil changes.

trip computer 1 ford focus

I want to say this is a waste of bandwidth, if they even use that term anymore.. but I won't.

trip computer 1 ford focus

I personally left trip 2 unchanged, so it will give me lifetime mpg and hours of driving. Unfortunately the petals reset when you reset trip 1. Design flaw if you ask me...

Speedo and trip computer issue

  • Add to quote

This hasn't been a new issue but it got worse today when my trip computer shut down today on my way to work. Both it and the odometer shut off with the speedo now plus when it shit off it seemed to start running very very sluggish until they suddenly came back on.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, any suggestions would help a ton if anyone has any.

trip computer 1 ford focus

Trip computer in an '01? Not registering speed or change in mileage is different from total shut down to no readings, and again different than when the odo shows dashes. Automatic trans?

It's a manual Trans and the odo has only showed dashes once then and hasn't popped back up sense. But yes the man issues is the speedo registers to zero and stays there for a good 15-25 seconds before returning and when it does that the car runs really sluggish.

Speed sensor/wiring to the trans. was the first guess, wondered if automatic because that needs input/output speeds as part of shifting (sluggish comment). Can't think of a relationship between the two for a manual other than a larger electrical problem. Voltage when it messes up would be good to know.

To me it sounds like a classic bad VSS ...

Ford Focus: Reset Trip Computer

How to reset the trip, distance, time, and average fuel consumption values on the trip computer on the Ford Focus.

  • Using the directional pad on the steering wheel, toggle the display to the value you want to clear.
  • Press and hold the “ OK ” button for about 3 seconds. It will reset the counters.

FOCUS TRIP COMPUTER ISSUES

trip computer 1 ford focus

  • Add to quote

I have a 2011 2.0l duratorq diesel focus which has proved incredibly reliable over 140,000 miles. Recently it had dpf issues which terraclean diagnosed as a blocked vaporiser. This was cleaned and the car seemed ok. A couple of days after this the trip computer display, which I always have in the 4 window display, replaced all the numbers with small dashes except the average speed. When I start the car the readouts are all ok but after driving for about a minute the dashes come back and the cooling fan comes on. I've checked fuses and even swapped the dash cluster but to no avail. Can anyone advise please? Thanks.

Hey, were you able to resolve this issue? I have a 2012 2.0 TDCI and the same thing is happening to me. The only notable differences are that my screen is the single window display and, as far as I have noticed so far, the cooling fan doesn't necessarily come on.

Have the same issue after the exact same job. Did you find a fix for this? Thankyou

How dis you fix it guys? I am really struggling with fixing it…it s really annoying

It ended up needing a full dpf clean/flush in the end, it was too clogged and was unable to do the regen on its own. Was around £120 if I rmemeber right

@Hargreaves88alan @Larry You had the same problem as above? Was the fan going on and the information on the trip computer was being deleted? I cleaned the DPF 8-9 months ago and it is 40% clogged now after it was checked on the tester, at the same time I also changed the injector from the particle filter. Now no mechanic bothers with it and doesn't tell me anything concrete to solve the problem, my cooling fan goes on non-stop exactly as the problem said above by Larry, exactly the same

My big puzzlement in this case is that before I changed this vaporizer, I cleaned the zDPF profesionally and it was, really, extremely clogged. But then from July last year until now I have had absolutely no problems with it, until recently when the above problems appeared and no one until now told me what it was from. Did you clean also the vaporizer with the DPF or just the filter?

Have Focus Zetec Climate 06 which has controls on indicator stick (i.e. menu, reset, etc) but they don't do anything. I only have mileage on display. Is this correct?

Does you dash show total mileage, trip mileage and outside temperature? If so they should work, check to see if any connections are broken. The individual details are rotated in the green screen (which is much smaller than on the mk2.5).

Has it ever worked? I have seen some Focuses that have the stalk but not the trip computer...

No it has never worked since I've had it which is only a month or two. It only shows the total mileage and the trip computer.

I suspect it may not have it then. I don't know at which level of Focus model that age you get the computer. I know we used to have a 06-reg Focus Zetec as a pool car and it had the buttons on the stalk but no computer. I'm guessing yours is the same.
