Fear not, my friend! There are several ways of taking scrolling screenshots on Mac, so let’s walk through them.

1. QuickTime Player

  • Click File in the menu bar and select New Screen Recording.

New Screen Recording

  • Click the drop-down arrow next to the record button and select None under the microphone option.
  • Click on the red record button and select the area of the screen you want to capture.
  • Once you have selected the area, click the Start Recording button to start screen recording.

  • The recording will automatically be saved as a .mov file. To save it as an image file, open it in Preview and select File , followed by Export . Choose the desired image format and save it.

Safari is not just a web browser but also allows you to take scrolling screenshots. This method is especially useful for capturing entire web pages beyond the visible area.

  • Press the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 5 to open the Screenshot tool.

  • Save the scrolling screenshot to your desired location by clicking on the Save button in the top right corner of the screenshot preview window.

This method is easy and useful if you need to take a scrolling screenshot of a web page in Chrome. However, it requires you to install a third-party extension, Full Page Screen Capture , which may be better for some users. If you don’t have any issues with it, Here are the steps:

  • Open Google Chrome on your Mac and go to the Chrome Web Store.
  • Search fo r Full Page Screen Capture and click Add to Chrome to install the extension.

macOS has a built-in tool for taking screenshots, but it can only capture what's actually visible on the screen at any time. What if you need to take a screenshot of an entire web page or lengthy document? Here are the best ways to take scrolling screenshots on a Mac.

Safari has a hidden screen capture tool that you might not know about. It's a bit technical, but is accessible to everyone, and if you only need it for occasional use, this is the simplest option to try.

To access the feature, you first need to enable the Developer Settings in Safari. Go to Safari > Settings > Advanced and click "Show Features for Web Developers".

Exit the settings, and you should see that a "Develop" option has appeared in the Safari menu bar. Now load up the web page you want to screenshot and go to Develop > Show Web Inspector. A panel will open at the bottom of the screen. It looks pretty complicated if you aren't used to it, but don't be put off—you don't need to know what any of it means.

To take your screenshot, make sure the Elements tab is selected at the top of the panel. In the code in the left-hand pane, scroll to the top and right-click on the line that begins "html"—it'll normally be the second line. From the dialog box that opens, click "Capture Screenshot."

You'll now be prompted to choose where to save your image. Click "Save" and you're done.

If you take screenshots of websites regularly, then you'll be better off using an app to handle it. For Safari, you can install an extension to capture scrolling screenshots. The one we like is FireShot, which is free and is also available as an extension for Chrome and other third-party browsers.

Head to FireShot on the Mac App Store and download it by clicking "Get" followed by "Install."

Now open Safari and go to Safari > Settings > Extensions and locate FireShot in the Installed pane. Check the box alongside the name to activate the extension. In the right-hand pane, you can click "Always Allow on Every Website" if you plan to use it a lot. For security reasons, it's better not to do this. You can simply grant permission for the extension to work as and when you need it instead.

Now load up the page you want to screenshot in Safari. You'll see that a FireShot icon has been added to the toolbar alongside the address bar. It'll be grayed out at first, so click the icon and select "Allow for One Day" to give it permission to run.

Click the icon again, followed by "Capture Entire Page." The screenshot will open in a new tab, and you can choose to save it as an image (in the PNG format) or PDF, email it, copy it to your clipboard, or print it.

The other good option for taking full-page screenshots of websites is by using an online tool. This is less convenient in some cases, but it comes with the benefit of being able to share your screenshots between your Mac and another device more easily.

There are many web services that can capture full-screen screenshots of websites. FullPageScreenCapture.com is as good as any. It's free to use and fast, and it assigns a unique URL to every screenshot it saves, so you can access it through any browser on any device.

Simply head to fullpagescreencapture.com and type or paste the URL of the web page you want to save into the box, then click "Capture Now."

It takes a few seconds to process. Once it's done, you'll see the image displayed on the site. Click it to open the image in a new browser tab, then right-click on the image and select either "Save to Desktop" or "Save As."

You can also click in the address bar in Safari and hit Command+C to copy the unique URL for the image and share it with other devices.

Finally, if you need to take a full-page or scrolling screenshot from within any app, not just of a website, you can do this with the third-party app Shottr. You can use it to capture screenshots of PDF files, spreadsheets, documents, large photos, or anything else.

You can use the app for free for as long as you like. After 30 days, it will occasionally ask you if you want to pay for it. You're not obligated to do so, but it only costs $8 and is great value if you use it a lot.

The app isn't available through the Mac App Store. Instead, download it from the official Shottr website and install it to get started .

Launch Shottr, and its icon will appear in your menu bar at the top of the screen where it's always easily accessible. Open the app and content you want to screenshot, then click the Shottr icon and select "Scrolling Capture."

Your mouse pointer will turn into a crosshair. Click in the top-left corner of the area you want to screenshot, then drag to the bottom-right. When you let go of the mouse button, the screen will begin to scroll up. Everything within the width of the rectangle you drew will be captured, right down to the bottom of the page.

Your screenshot will open in a preview window. You can annotate or crop it, or click the Save icon to save it. If you close the preview accidentally, click the Shottr icon and select "Reopen Shottr."

It's easy to take scrolling screenshots on a Mac. Whether you just need a quick tool or a more professional solution, choose the method that's best for you, and you can grab full-page screenshots in any app.

8 Ways to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac

Why Would You Need to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac

Ways to capture scrolling screenshots on mac, conclusion on scrolling screenshot on mac.

Using a Mac is generally straightforward, but some features can be a bit hidden, especially for new users. Capturing what’s on your screen is one of those tasks that might seem tricky, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned Mac user. Taking a scrolling screenshot, in particular, can be a bit of a challenge.

When you hear about taking a scrolling screenshot on a Mac, it usually means capturing a “full-page” or “long” screenshot. This lets you capture an entire webpage, document, or any screen content that goes beyond what you can see at once. It’s a great way to share more information while keeping the original layout intact, without needing multiple screenshots to get the full picture.

There are plenty of tools available for taking scrolling screenshots, including Mac’s built-in screenshot tools, browser extensions, online tools, and third-party apps. Read on to find the best method for capturing scrolling screenshots on your Mac.

Instead of capturing multiple screenshots and piecing them together, you can capture everything in one shot. This can be beneficial in some scenarios especially when you need to share or save information comprehensively and contextually. Some of the scenarios where scrolling screenshots can come in handy:

a). Long Web Pages

One of the scenarios a scrolling screenshot on Mac would be beneficial is when you need to save or share an article or a detailed forum thread. Capturing a scrolling screenshot on a long web page is not only more convenient but will also keep your information intact and in context, making it look more professional and organized.

b). Social Media Feeds

When you need to capture a social media conversation for a presentation or report, a scrolling screenshot ensures you don’t miss any part of the dialogue. This is particularly important if you’re documenting customer complaints , online harassment, or cyberbullying, where capturing the entire conversation in one continuous image provides clear and comprehensive evidence.

c). Work Documentation

In professional settings, taking scrolling screenshots can be incredibly useful. For instance, if you’re tracking progress on project management tools like Trello or Asana , capturing a full scroll of the board can provide a comprehensive overview. Similarly, when reviewing long code snippets that extend beyond the visible screen, a continuous screenshot ensures no part is overlooked, making peer reviews more efficient and thorough.

There are several ways to capture scrolling screenshots on Mac and we have listed all the possible ways with their step-by-step guides. Let’s look at each method below.

1. Best Third-Party Tool- Zight

Zight screen capture

Taking screenshots of extra-long web pages can be tricky. Sure, you could stitch together multiple screenshots in an image editor like Adobe Photoshop, but that’s a hassle. For Mac users, there’s a better way: Zight .

Here’s how to take a scrolling screenshot on a Mac using Zight:

Step 1: Download and Install Zight

Start by downloading and installing the Zight application on your Mac. You can find it on the Mac App Store or through the Zight website.

Step2: Launch the Zight App

Once Zight is installed, launch the application by double-clicking its icon in the Applications folder or by searching for it in Spotlight.

Step 3: Enable Full-Screen Capture

In the Zight interface, ensure that the option for full-screen capture is enabled. This usually involves clicking on the “Full Screen” within the Zight interface.

Step 4: Set Preferences (Optional)

Optionally, you can customize the preferences in Zight according to your preferences. This might include selecting the file format for the screenshot, setting a destination folder for saved screenshots, or adjusting other capture settings.

Step 5: Navigate to the Content to Capture:

Open the webpage, document, or any other content that you want to capture in a scrolling screenshot.

Step 6 : Activate Zight Screenshot Capture

Once you’re ready to capture the scrolling screenshot, activate Zight. This may involve clicking on the Zight icon in the menu bar or using a keyboard shortcut, depending on your Zight settings. Once you click capture, it automatically captures the entire screen.

Step 7 : Saving the Chrome Full-Page Screenshot

After capturing a screenshot, it will automatically upload to Zight’s secure cloud and add a Zight link to your clipboard. This means you can now paste the link or the content into your chosen platform by simply dragging the link on your clipboard.

2. Using Preview

Take Screenshot - From Entire Page

Did you know your Mac’s built-in Preview app (it’s already there!) can capture entire web pages or documents in a single shot? Although this is not the most efficient method, it can work easily. Also, it’s not suitable for capturing long content and it’s more suitable for shorter scrolling captures.

Here’s the secret:

Step 1 : Open what you want to capture: Find the webpage or document you need a screenshot of.

Step 2: Take a regular screenshot (almost): Press the familiar shortcut Command + Shift + 4 . This normally lets you capture a specific area, but we’ll trick it a bit.

Step 3 : Hold on, don’t click yet! Instead of selecting an area, keep your finger hovering. You’ll see a small thumbnail appear in the corner.

Step 4 : Preview! Look closely at that corner thumbnail. You’ll see a tiny “Preview” option. Click that!

Step 5 : Preview takes over: Voila! Preview opens with your entire capture, ready for editing or saving.

Now you can grab those long web pages or documents without needing any extra software.

3. QuickTime Player

Your Mac’s built-in QuickTime Player isn’t just for watching videos anymore. It also doubles as a handy screenshot tool, and the best part? No extra downloads are required.

This hidden feature lets you capture entire web pages or documents, even the parts that scroll off the screen. Here’s how to use it:

Step 1 : Locate the page or document you want to screenshot.

Step 2 : Open QuickTime Player from your Applications folder or search for it in the Spotlight.

Step 4 : Select File , then choose New Screen Recording , and click Record Entire Screen.

Scrolling screenshot on a Mac

Step 5 : Click the drop-down arrow next to the record button and select None under the microphone option. Navigate to the page you want to capture and click on it.

Step 6 : Click on the red record button and select the area of the screen you want to capture. Scroll through the entire page or document to the bottom.

Step 6 : Once you have selected the area, click the Start Recording button to start screen recording.

Step 7 : Once you reach the end of the page, click on the stop button in the menu bar.

Step 8 : The recording will automatically be saved as a .mov file. To save it as an image file, open it in Preview and select File, followed by Export. Choose the desired image format and save it.

Forget downloading extra apps! Mac lets you capture screenshots on the fly using handy keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys). These built-in shortcuts let you grab your entire screen, a specific window, or just a custom area you choose – all without opening another program.

Step 1 : Find what you want to capture: Open the webpage or document you need a screenshot of.

Step 2 : Shortcut Time: Press Command + Shift + 5 on your keyboard simultaneously. This activates the screenshot tool.

Step 3: Turn it into a Camera: Hit the Spacebar key. This transforms the cursor into a little crosshair, ready to capture a specific area.

Step 4 : Press the Record the entire screen button and then click anywhere on your screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the document or page

Step 5 : Capture! Glide your mouse over the window or area you want to grab. For scrolling screenshots, hold down the Option key while clicking.

Step 6 : Snap! Release the mouse button to save your screenshot. By default, it saves to your desktop, but you can change this in your System Preferences.

5. Browser Extensions for Chrome

If you don’t want to install an app and are looking for an easy way to go about it, the Zight Chrome extension is it. A quick and straightforward solution.

  • To get started, search for Zight on the Chrome web store on your Mac

  • The extension will then download and appear in your toolbar
  • You can also choose to ‘pin’ the Zight extension to get even quicker access

Step 2: Open Your Webpage

Open the webpage that you want to capture. Whether it’s a lengthy article, an entire webpage, or a long chat thread, Zight will do it for you.

Step 3: Choose Your Frame – Full Screen or Region

After activating the screenshot function, decide on the frame of your capture. Since we want to capture a full-page screenshot, select Full Screen to capture everything displayed on your device.

Step 4: Saving the Chrome Full-Page Screenshot

Once you’ve captured the screenshot, it will automatically upload to Zight’s secure cloud and add a Zight link to your clipboard. You can then paste the link or the content into your chosen platform.

Step 5: Share your Screenshot

To share your full-page screenshot, click the “Share” button. You can copy the autogenerated link to send it to anyone, drag and drop screen recordings into emails and chat apps, share directly to platforms like Trello , Asana , and Slack , or embed it in an email .

6. Developer Tools

Alternatively, Chrome users can also use developer tools to capture scrolling screenshots. Although it is a hidden menu bar, it can help to capture screenshots too. However, this is not the easiest method to take a scrolling screenshot, so it can be confusing for beginners. Luckily, we’ll break it down for you.

Step 1 : Open the Google Chrome browser on your Mac. Alternatively, you can use the Alt + Command + I keyboard shortcut.

Step 2 : Click on the three dots in the top right corner and click to open the Developer Tools.

Developer Tools

Step 3 : There is a menu bar within the Developer Tools screen. You’ll notice three vertical dots. Click on them, then select Run Command.

Step 4 : Choose the desired size of your screenshot by clicking with your mouse pointer in the Run Command box that appears when you type “screenshot” to bring up related options. You will be looking for the Capture full-size screenshot result.

Step 5 : Capture the screenshot by clicking on the three dots by the size settings. Choose Capture full-size screenshot to screenshot the entire page. Choose the folder and save the image to your computer. Then, select the Screenshot button, which will capture a screenshot of the current webpage (without displaying the underlying code).

Step 6 : Save the Screenshot: Your screenshot will be saved within your default downloads folder, but remember to save it if prompted.

7. Safari Screenshot Tool

If you want to capture a full-page screenshot on your Mac using Safari, there’s a workaround you can try. However, it’s tricky and might not deliver the best results. For a smoother experience, we recommend using Firefox or Chrome to take your scrolling screenshots.

Nonetheless, if you prefer Safari, here’s how to go about it:

Step 1 : Launch Safari and navigate to the webpage you want to capture.

Step 2 : Click on the Develop menu in the menu bar and select Show Web Inspector. If the Develop menu is not visible, go to Menu → Safari → Settings → Advanced tab and check ‘Show Develop menu in menu bar’.

Scrolling Capture

Step 3 : In the Web Inspector window, select the Elements tab.

Step 4 : Right-click on the <html> tag and choose Capture Screenshot from the menu.

The scrolling screenshot will be saved as an image file on your desktop. However, the resulting PNG might be less effective than a PDF, even after cropping.

8. Save as PDF

Save as PDF

This method of capturing scrolling screenshots on your Mac is suitable for capturing text-heavy content because it preserves the original format of the content. This might seem a bit like a cheat. You act as if you’re going to print the webpage, but instead of printing, you save it as a PDF file on your computer! It’s faster than using extensions or online recorders.

However, it will limit you when it comes to selecting a specific region, and also the interactive elements might not be captured correctly. Also, you can’t choose the file format. If you need a PNG or JPG, you’ll have to convert the PDF later.

Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1 : Navigate to the webpage you want to capture. Click the “File” button on the top or press Command + P

Step 2 : Click the “Print” button from the list of the dropdown menu

Step 3 : Select the “ Save as PDF ” button from the bottom PDF list

Step 4 : Click the “ Save ” button to take a scrolling screenshot of your notes, webpage, or document as PDF on Mac.

Since there are many ways you can take a scrolling screenshot on Mac, the choice is yours as it might depend on what you are looking for, whether in image, video, or PDF format. However, as per us, using a dedicated screenshot tool like Zight is the best as there are countless reasons why not to use native screenshot tools . After all, it comes with bonus features ensuring you maximize your productivity without downloading other tools.

You can also markup screenshots, i.e., add texts, draw, highlight, spotlight, or even add visual effects. The app also boasts Live Text like OCR text recognition to recognize and copy text from screenshots to a clipboard.

How to Take Scrolling Screenshots on Any Device

Go beyond basic screenshots on any phone or laptop..

Image for article titled How to Take Scrolling Screenshots on Any Device

There are screenshots and then there are scrolling screenshots, which are extended screengrabs that include the entirety of the webpage or the document or the menu that you’re viewing, beyond what you can actually see on screen. If you need to capture these kinds of screenshots the process is slightly different than a standard screenshot.

Suggested Reading

Here’s how to take a scrolling screenshot on any device.

How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Android

Scrolling screenshots are now baked right into Android 12 , so if you’re running the latest version of the operating system, you’re covered. Press the Power+Volume Down button combination as normal, then tap Capture more on the thumbnail that appears. You’ll then be given the opportunity to crop your screenshot before it’s actually saved.

Related Content

If the Capture more button doesn’t appear on screen, then the app you’re using doesn’t support scrolling screenshots. For those of you not on Android 12, you’ll need a third-party app to fill the gap. Something like LongShot or Stitchcraft should do the trick, though with Android now supporting the feature natively, there might not be all that many apps to choose from in the future.

The scrolling screenshot tool built into Android 12.

Samsung phones, meanwhile, have included a scrolling screenshot feature for years, so if you have a Galaxy phone you should see a Scroll capture button show up when you use the Power+Volume Down key combination. You may also see some other variation on the theme if you’re not running a stock or near-stock version of Android.

Strangely enough, Chrome for Android doesn’t support the baked in scrolling screenshot feature, and you won’t see the Capture more button. To capture the entirety of a webpage in Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner to open the browser menu, then choose Share and Long screenshot .

How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on iPhones and iPads

iOS and iPadOS do have a native scrolling screenshot feature, but it only works in a select number of Apple apps, like Safari and Pages. Take a screenshot using the Power+Volume Up key combination, then tap the thumbnail of the screenshot that appears in the lower left corner, then choose Full Page .

You’ll be shown the screenshot in its entirety on the right of the screen, and you can use the crop tool (at the top) to chop out some of the image if you need to (and you can add annotations on top as normal). When you’re happy with how the screengrab is looking, tap Done to save the image as a PDF file (which is how long screenshots must be saved).

iOS offers built-in scrolling screenshot capture in selected apps.

There are third-party apps out there that will take scrolling screenshots for you on an iPhone or an iPad, and they extend the functionality to third-party apps as well. Picsew and Long Picture are two of the best around at the moment, and they both work by taking a series of grabs and then stitching them together.

Support built into apps is sadly lacking at the moment, as far as we can tell—you won’t find the same long screenshot feature built into Chrome for iOS as there is in Chrome for Android, for example. We have been able to get the Full Page option up on Chrome for iOS using the method built into the operating system, but it doesn’t (yet?) seem to be able to capture full webpages correctly.

How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Windows

Windows offers a few ways for taking screenshots, from the PrtSc button to the built-in Snip & Sketch tool, but for the time being at least there’s no native way to capture a scrolling screenshot in a program like a web browser or a word processor. To get long screengrabs, you need a third-party program.

ShareX is a freeware tool that covers screen capturing, file sharing, and various other productivity tasks. To use it to take a scrolling screenshot, select Capture and then Scrolling capture , then select the window you want to scroll and screenshot at the same time. There are plenty of options (including an optional start delay) to play around with.

PicPick can handle scrolling screenshots in a couple of clicks.

PicPick is another great choice that’s free to use for home users, and again it packs in several utilities besides the screen capture element. From the main Start panel (select File if you can’t see it), click Scrolling Window : You’ll then be asked to choose the window you want to scroll through and grab.

A lot of the time, the screenshots you’re going to want to capture will be inside a web browser, so another option is to investigate the extensions available for your browser of choice. In the case of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, for example, you can use something like GoFullPage or Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder , which both include a scrolling screenshot function.

How to Take Scrolling Screenshots on a Mac

It’s the same story with macOS as it is on Windows—even though there are a lot of different screenshot options built into the operating system, none of them cover scrolling screenshots. That means you have to use a third-party tool or find a suitable extension that’s going to work in your browser.

CleanShot X can grab long screenshots for you, and in any app, though you will have to pay $29 to use it (the cloud add-ons are another $10 per month). It’s undoubtedly a comprehensive and slick application, but if you’re just looking for something simple and straightforward, it might be more than you need. Capto is another powerful screengrab tool, and that will set you back $27.

Full Page Screen Capture works in any browser.

When it comes to browsers, we mentioned some Chrome and Edge tools in the Windows section. It’s also worth highlighting Full Page Screen Capture , where you can just plug in a website address to grab it. Then there’s Mozilla Firefox, which comes with its own screenshot tool—just right-click on a webpage, choose Take Screenshot , and select Save full page from the panel in the top right corner.

If you want to take a screenshot in Safari, there’s no readily available extension you can use, but you can choose File and Export as PDF to save an entire website as a PDF file—not quite a screenshot, because it’s not in a standard image format, but you can convert it in another program easily enough.

How to Take Scrolling Screenshots on a Chromebook

The standard way to take screenshots in Chrome OS is to hold down Ctrl and then tap what’s known as the Show windows button—it’s just above the 5 on most keyboards, and looks like a rectangle with two vertical lines to the right of it. A notification appears confirming the grab, which is saved in the Downloads folder.

That will only capture what’s actually shown on screen though. To grab a website or a web app in its entirety, hit Ctrl+Shift+I to open the developer panel on the right, and then Ctrl+Shift+P to run a search for “screenshot.”

The capture process in Chrome OS relies on developer tools.

Click Screenshot next to Capture full size screenshot and the page you’re on gets grabbed in one large image. After a few moments (this may take some time on longer pages) you’ll be prompted to save the resulting PNG file, which can be saved to disk, uploaded to the web, or whatever. The webpage title is used as a filename.

Of course you can also use the Chrome extensions that we’ve mentioned above to capture full screenshots on Chrome OS: GoFullPage and Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder (and there are plenty of others to pick from) will work as well inside Chrome OS as they do in Chrome on Windows or macOS.

Take screenshots or screen recordings on Mac

You can take pictures (called screenshots ) or recordings of the screen on your Mac using Screenshot or keyboard shortcuts. Screenshot provides a panel of tools that let you easily take screenshots and screen recordings, with options to control what you capture—for example, you can set a timer delay or include the pointer or clicks.

Take pictures or screen recordings using Screenshot

On your Mac, press Shift-Command-5 (or use Launchpad ) to open Screenshot and display the tools.

The Screenshot panel.

Click a tool to use to select what you want to capture or record (or use the Touch Bar ).

For a portion of the screen, drag the frame to reposition it or drag its edges to adjust the size of the area you want to capture or record.

Click Options if you want.

The available options vary based on whether you’re taking a screenshot or a screen recording. For example, you can choose to set a timed delay or show the mouse pointer or clicks, and specify where to save the file.

The Show Floating Thumbnail option helps you work more easily with a completed shot or recording—it floats in the bottom-right corner of the screen for a few seconds so you have time to drag it into a document, mark it up, or share it before it’s saved to the location you specified.

Start the screenshot or screen recording:

For the entire screen or a portion of it: Click Capture.

For a window: Move the pointer to the window, then click the window.

When the Show Floating Thumbnail option is set, you can do any of the following while the thumbnail is briefly displayed in the bottom-right corner of the screen:

Drag the thumbnail into a document, an email, a note, or a Finder window.

Tip: To copy a screenshot so you can paste it somewhere—like in an email or to another device —press and hold the Control key while you press the other keys. For example, to copy the whole screen, press Shift-Command-Control-3.

  • Use Assistive Touch , Back Tap , or Siri for screenshot > tap preview thumbnail > tap Full Page > tap Done > save.
  • Find saved scrolling screenshots in the Files app.

This article explains three ways you can take a scrolling screenshot on your iPhone, without relying on any third-party apps.

How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on an iPhone

Unlike a regular iPhone screenshot ( Volume Up + Power button) that only grabs exactly what’s displayed on your phone’s screen, scrolling screenshots go outside the boundaries. Think of it as a panorama photo, but for a screenshot. As of this writing, this function only works with screenshots taken in the Safari web browser.

You’ll need Apple’s Files app in order to store scrolling screenshots, which are saved as a PDF.

Press your iPhone’s Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time (like a regular screenshot).

Tap the screenshot preview that appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Tap the Full Page tab at the top of the screen, beneath the editing icons.

On the right side, you'll see a representation of the entire page. There are teeny tiny grab handles at the top and bottom of the small representation. You can drag those to capture the part of the page you need.

Tap Done in the top-left corner to finish, then Save PDF to Files (or Save All to Files if more than one screenshot is taken). Or tap the Share icon in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap Save to Files .

If you want to share the screenshot straight away, tap the share button in the upper right (box with an arrow pointing up), and share the file via Messages, email, etc. Then, when finished, follow the rest of the directions above.

When prompted, select a location on your iPhone (or iCloud Drive if you use it) and tap Save in the top-right corner of the screen.

You can find your saved scrolling screenshot by opening the Files app, which should appear in the Recents category.

Want a cleaner screenshot of a web page? Use Reader Mode to strip out ads and then take the scrolling screenshot.

AssistiveTouch Can Also Take a Scrolling Screenshot

You can also take a scrolling screenshot using the iPhone's built-in accessibility feature: AssistiveTouch .

To take a screenshot with AssistiveTouch, you’ll need to have the function set up in Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch .

Use your set AssistiveTouch command to take a screenshot of a web page or large document.

When set up for it, you can use Back Tap to take a screenshot instead.

Once a screenshot is taken, tap the preview thumbnail that appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Tap the Full Page tab towards the top-right corner of the screen to see what the scrolling screenshot will look like.

Tap Done in the top-left corner of the screen to finish, then tap Save PDF to Files (or Save All to Files if more than one screenshot is taken) to confirm.

Select a location to save your scrolling screenshot. You can use the Files app to view it once it’s saved.

Hey Siri, Take a Screenshot

Siri is always around to help, too. Just say "Hey Siri, take a screenshot,” and the digital assistant will do the rest. You'll then need to interact with the screenshot as in the first section to capture the entire page.

Double-tapping to take a screenshot is an accessibility setting, so that's where you'll go to deactivate it. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap , and then set the Double Tap and Triple Tap options to None . Alternatively, switch them to something other than a screenshot.

Use the iPhone's screen-recording feature to capture a video that's playing on your iPhone. First, go to Settings > Control Center and tap the plus sign next to Screen Recording if it isn't already active. Then, activate Screen Recording from your Control Center; the icon is two concentric circles. Go back to the Control Center to stop recording; the video will save in your Photos app.

How to Take a Screenshot of an Entire Webpage in Safari on a Mac

OWC Mark C

Taking screenshots of a webpage is a normal operation for many. Perhaps it’s to capture an image for a meme, graphs for a presentation, or to send that annoying error message to a disbelieving customer service rep. Whatever the reason, some of the standard Mac screenshot options may not do the trick.

Most of us are familiar with Shift-Command-3 to capture the entire screen, or Shift-Command-4 to capture a selected portion of a screen. You may even be familiar with Shift-Command-5 to capture a single window. But what if you want to take a scrolling screen capture of an entire webpage? The aforementioned tools can’t do that – they can only capture visible areas of your screen. So, is it even possible to take a screenshot that includes a portion of a webpage you would normally need to scroll to see?

Yes, there is! But it does take a few extra steps than just executing a single keystroke combination.

Screenshot a Webpage

  • Open Safari and go to “ Safari > Preferences… “
  • Click the Advanced tab and toggle on “ Show Develop menu in menu bar .”

Safari preferences showing advanced tab

  • Navigate to the webpage you want to capture and from the Develop menu, choose “ Show Web Inspector .” Alternatively, you can hit alt-command-I (⌥⌘I).

Show Web Inspector in develop menu in safri

  • Select the Elements tab and right-click on the line that begins with “<html…”
  • Choose Capture Screenshot

safari scrolling screenshot

  • Give it a moment to do it’s magic, and then select a name and location to save the file.

safari scrolling screenshot

All done! Well, almost…

This could just be an issue I run into, but when capturing entire pages in this manner, there is a lot of empty container buffer around the image in the PNG file. You can see this in the Quick Preview of the file:

safari scrolling screenshot

Let’s fix that.

  • Open the file in Preview . If Preview is already your default application to open PNG files, you can simply double-click its icon.

Preview Markup icon

  • Drag the crosshairs in the empty area around the image. You’ll see the empty space selected and highlighted in red. Drag too far, and you’ll pick up the image itself. Don’t do that, we only want to select the empty area.

safari scrolling screenshot

  • When you let go of the mouse button, the highlighted color will disappear and be replaced with a dotted line indicating the selected area.

safari scrolling screenshot

  • Hit Shift-Command-I (⇧⌘I) to invert the selection.

safari scrolling screenshot

  • Hit Control-K (⌘K) to crop the image to the selection.
  • Now you can hit Save (⌘S) and you truly are done. One cleaned up screenshot of an entire webpage.

OH man, Thank you so much for this post. it really helped me and saved a lot of my time.

Thanks for the helpful screen capture. I cannot get the clean up to work. The Shift+Command+I doesn’t work and I cannot get the Control+K to work. Can select the red area but that’s it.

Hoping you can help.

You show us how to capture OTHER web pages but NOT your own? That’s not cool dudes! If its not NOT for you, its not OK for anyone, right?

on Catalina, the part involving Preview to crop the image was a bit different, but I figured it out. Click on the show Markup Toolbar icon, then click on Rectangular Selection, then draw a box around the bit of interest, then click on “crop” in the toolbar. Repeat if needed. Zoom as needed.

Thanks for the insight!

Tried it on the article and when I try to pen saved .png I get message that either file is corrupted or can’t open the file format.

I ran into this also, then I quickly realized the file does not have the .png extension. Recaptured the screen and ensured when renaming the file, I added .png. Opened as a webpage though not as a preview. Still to figure out how to set preview as the default file opener for png files.

I’ve often wanted to do this. However, on this very page, while the initial steps seem to work, the resulting .png is un-openable by Preview or Pixelmator Pro or Quicklook. (“It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.”)

File->Print->Save as PDF, and File->Export as PDF work as expected in Safari (full HTML-rendered page) with the added features of selectable text and extractable images in the PDFs (for those memes y’all). ~Tim~ macOS Big Sur, 11.4 Safari 14.1.1

Awesome tip! These are the articles that make it worthwhile to keep visiting Rocket Yard of OWC. Thanks. BTW an application to do it is Paparazzi! (but it does not work in all cases) https://derailer.org/paparazzi

I just tried that same Apple webpage with Safari 14.1.1 in OS 11.4. Went to File > Export as PDF… and bingo! Got a nice high-res 8.2MB PDF on my desktop instantly. Image is clean, no unexpected margins.

That works! Thank you!

Huh. I just tried that in Mojave with the latest Safari (14.1.2), using this webpage for the test.

I end up with a 20.6mb file ending in .PNG format, but which will not open. It’s either “damaged” or in a format that Preview can’t open.

In most other applications, this function would be easily performed using the Print button, and then Save as PDF. It is truly unfortunate that web developers have blocked the normal Print functionality on the web.

How to choose a scrolling screen recorder

We hope that this article has helped you learn more about how to take scrolling screenshots on a Mac, as well as finding out a lot of different ways to capture these kinds of screenshots. If you're still not sure which method or tool is right for you, here are some factors to keep in mind when making your decision:

Usability: Try to pick a tool, app, or piece of software that is easy for you to use and matches your level of technical experience and expertise. The best screenshot capture apps tend to be very beginner-friendly and simple to understand. Try and find one with a free trial or one that is free to use when first starting out.

Features: Take a look at the different features offered by each screenshot capture tool. Some of these tools are quite basic and will only allow you to take simple screenshots, while others may offer extra features like screen recording and editing, for example, which can give you more options and possibilities.

User reviews: It's always a good idea to read through user reviews and check the average ratings for any piece of software before you download it to your device and start using it. User reviews can give you a good idea about how useful a piece of software actually is, as well as let you know if any major bugs or issues are present.

Support: Be sure to check what kind of user support is available with any apps or tools you plan to use. Some tools have almost no user support, so you won't be able to get any help if something goes wrong, while other apps have dedicated user support teams who will be available to help you figure things out and solve common problems.

Chrome Extensions

If you’re a Chrome user and find the above-mentioned method complicated. Then, by using a chrome extension, you can make the scrolling screenshot-taking process easy. I found two extensions that you can use to take a full webpage screenshot in Chrome.

  • Gyazo. (Search on Chrome Web Store.)
  • Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder.

Both are good. Though, with “Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder”, you get more features. So, I think, we should consider it. Though, you can try both, and decide whatever works best for you.

1. Open the “ Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder ” extension link in the Chrome browser. Click on “Add to Chrome” and “Add Extension” to the chrome browser. (Extension might ask you to log in or sign up, you don’t need it to take a screenshot.)

Scrolling Screenshot Mac - Papperbazi

There are more similar Apps available. But, adding all doesn’t make any sense. So, let’s move further.

Personally, Snagit is my favorite tool to take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac. I have used this tool in Windows so many times to record screens. Though, it comes with screen capture capabilities also. Some web pages won’t allow running scripts, which means you can’t take scrolling screenshots using extensions. In that case, Snagit comes in handy. Snagit allows highlighting or visually annotating any part of screenshots.

It comes with smart window detection, that automatically crops out unwanted window borders. I am keeping it at the end of the article because it comes with a 15-days trial only. So after 15 days, you have to pay for it. Taking screenshots with Snagit is damn easy. I have created a GIF, so you can understand it better.

Once, you take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac, you can edit it using the Snagit Editor. And, after that, you can export it to your desired file location.

Ok, So these were the methods to take a screenshot of the entire webpage on Mac. If you don’t want to download third-party tools like BrowserShot or Paparazzi, then you can use the browser’s native options. Though, in Chrome and Safari screenshot-taking process might be not that easy for you. In that case, you can use a browser extension in Chrome. Or, you can install the Snagit App. If you have any questions or know a better way, feel free to comment.

In iOS 13 and later, iPhones and iPads can take scrolling screenshots that capture entire webpages in Safari. The best part is that it's almost exactly like taking a standard screenshot. But, instead of saving a screen-sized image, you save the full page as a scrollable PDF.

Here’s how to take scrolling screenshots in Safari.

How to Take a Full-Page Screenshot of a Webpage

To take a scrolling screenshot of a full webpage in Safari, follow these steps:

Open Safari and navigate to the webpage you want to screenshot.

Press the volume up button and the power button simultaneously to take a screenshot. If your iPhone has a Home button, press the Home button and the power button instead. (Learn how to take screenshots without a power button .)

Tap the Full Page option in the toggle near the top of the screen.

The view will change slightly to show the top portion of the scrolling screenshot and, next to it, a miniaturized overview of the entire screenshot down the side. You can scroll the main view of the screenshot by swiping up and down with two fingers.

Dragging the highlighted box on the miniaturized view to the right lets you quickly move the screenshot.

While you’re viewing the screenshot, crop it by tapping the Crop button (which looks like a square with overlapping lines) in the top toolbar. You can also edit it using the markup tools along the bottom of your iPhone’s screen.

When you’re finished cropping and marking up the screenshot, tap the Share button to save it to Files or send it to another app. Your iPhone will save the full webpage as a long, single-page PDF document.

If you want to delete the screenshot without saving it, tap Done and then tap Delete Screenshot .

Other apps can support the full-page screenshot feature, too. Apple’s Mail app is one example; however, it saves a paginated PDF rather than a scrollable single-page file.

One Screenshot Is Better Than Two

Previously, iOS users depended on third-party scrolling screenshot apps to share long webpages. Now, the feature is built right into iOS and works just like a standard screenshot. Once you’ve learned this skill, there are even more ways of taking screenshots on an iPhone to discover.

What is a scrolling capture, how to take a scrolling capture (windows or mac), capture a scrolling area with a scrolling capture, three ways to make your full-page screenshots even better, the best way to capture scrolling screenshots, subscribe to techsmith’s newsletter.

Most basic screen capture tools allow you to capture all or part of your screen, but what if you need to capture more than what’s visible on your screen at any time? If you’ve ever needed to screenshot an entire web page, you probably know how annoying it is to take multiple screenshots and stitch them together.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

The scrolling capture tool on TechSmith’s Snagit allows you to take screenshots of content that doesn’t fit within the dimensions of your screen. They’re great for capturing:

  • Long website pages and documents
  • Spreadsheets with lots of rows or columns
  • Lengthy email, chat, and social media threads

In this post, we’ll show how to take a scrolling screenshot in the best and easiest way, using Snagit.

Easily capture scrolling screenshots with Snagit

Quickly grab infinitely scrolling pages, long chat threads, and everything in between.

Put simply, a scrolling capture (formerly panoramic capture) is a screenshot that allows you to scroll to capture content that may not be visible on your screen. You can scroll vertically to capture things like web pages or documents or horizontally for spreadsheets and large graphics.

safari scrolling screenshot

There are many ways to take screenshots on Windows or Mac, but the built-in screen capture tools on both operating systems lack a scrolling screenshot feature. This means they can only capture the visible areas of your screen.

Unless you want to spend lots of time piecing multiple screen grabs together, you’ll need advanced screen capture software to take a scrolling screenshot.

We’ll use Snagit to show you how to take a scrolling screenshot on Mac and Windows . Unlike browser extensions, which limit your captures to web pages, Snagit can capture anything on your screen.

If you don’t already have Snagit, then don’t worry you can try it for free without needing a credit card.

With Snagit, there are two screenshot options to take a scrolling capture: manually and automatically.

While the automatic scrolling makes it super quick and easy to take a long screenshot, doing it manually gives you greater control of the area you want to capture. For example, if you’ve got an Excel spreadsheet with lots of rows and columns, you might want to scroll both vertically and horizontally, which is easier to do manually.

How to take an automatic scrolling capture

Here’s how to take a full-page screenshot automatically using Snagit’s Automatic Scrolling capture tool:

  • Select the all-in-one tab within Snagit’s capture window and click Capture.

Snagit's capture menu.

  • When the orange crosshairs appear, click the window you want to capture, and Snagit will snap to that window.
  • Next, click on one of the orange side buttons to select the direction you want your screenshot to scroll. (Don’t worry if you can’t see all the arrows. If the web page or program you’re using can only scroll in one direction, then only one arrow will appear.)

Automatic scrolling capture with arrows.

  • Once you’ve clicked an arrow, Snagit will take the scrolling capture and open it up in the Snagit Editor when it’s ready.

How to manually take a scrolling capture

If you’re looking for more control over the area that your scrolling capture actually captures, then you’ll need to take your Scrolling Capture manually. Here’s how:

  • Select the all-in-one tab within Snagit’s capture window and click capture.
  • When the orange crosshairs appear, you can either click on the window you wish to capture or drag a custom area across your screen.
  • Next, click on the icon with the camera and arrows. This will start the scrolling capture process.

Manual scrolling capture menu.

  • Next, scroll through the content you want to capture, then click Done. We’d suggest you scroll slowly to get the best results.

Once you’ve captured your screenshot, it will automatically open in the Snagit Editor, where you can preview, edit, add markup or callouts, and quickly share it. It’s that easy!

Screenshots on their own are useful, but when you add a little context, they can be downright magical in helping explain ideas and convey information. There are different ways to use the Snagit Editor and bring the magic out in your screenshots and Scrolling Captures.

1. Crop your screenshot

Did you capture too much? No worries, just crop your screenshot so you only include the information you want.

2. Annotate your screenshot

Don’t let important information go unnoticed. Use arrows and callouts to highlight specific areas of your screenshot or add more context. Choose from different color themes, or create your own to keep your images on-brand.

3. Rearrange objects within your screenshot

Snagit automatically makes the objects in your screen capture movable, which means you can rearrange buttons, delete text, and edit other elements in your screenshots.

So, if your cursor blocking something, delete it! If you’d prefer that button was on the right and not the left, move it! With Snagit, it is that easy. You can even magically mock up websites with screenshots .

4. Edit the text in your screenshot

Snagit recognizes the text in your screenshots for quick editing, which means you can change the text’s color, font, and size — as well as the actual words —without redesigning the entire image.

With Snagit, you can even extract text from an image , which is something that no built-in screenshot tool on the planet can do!

Once you’re done with your edits, save the screenshot to your computer and share it with you team using Screencast ! Screencast is the best way to share your Snagit captures.

Scrolling captures is a lifesaver when you need to screenshot an entire webpage, extensive spreadsheet, or long chat thread. And as you can’t take scrolling screenshots with native apps like Snip & Sketch, investing in a more powerful screenshotting tool is well worth it.

As well as being the best tool for taking full-page screenshots, Snagit lets you quickly capture your screen, add additional context, and share images, GIFS, and videos to your favorite apps in just a few clicks.

Online recorders that have a Mac scrolling screenshot feature

The second way to take a screencap on a Mac is to use an online screen recorder. As opposed to extensions, you don’t need to install an online screen capture tool. On the other hand, these apps are not as straightforward to use. Every time you want to take a screengrab, you need to open the recorder web page and set up the recording.

But if you find this way a better fit for your purposes, here are the three best programs to use.

1. Screenshot Guru

Best for: Capturing websites and tweets

Browser: Any

Product Hunt rating : 4 out of 5 stars

Though Screenshot Guru is designed for capturing screenshots of tweets, you can also use it for scrolling screenshotting. Its main disadvantage is that it can’t capture websites that require a login, web pages with Flash embeds, or Ajax-based sites like Google Maps.

safari scrolling screenshot

  • Takes scrolling screenshots of tweets and websites

  • When Screenshot Guru is done, download and save it on your Mac.

2. Full Page Screen Capture

Best for: Taking scrolling screenshots via URL

Product Hunt rating : 4.2 out of 5 stars

It’s hard to find something simpler than Full Page Screen Capture. It was designed specifically for taking scrolling screenshots. All you need to do is copy the link to the page you want to scroll and paste it into an empty field on the Full Page Screen Capture website. Then you can download the image to your desk or share it with others.

safari scrolling screenshot

  • It’s simple to use.

Built-in tools to take a long screenshot on a Mac

It’s not always necessary to install an extension or use an online recorder to print screen your Mac. There are several ways to make a screen capture with built-in macOS services and browser tools. No installations, no specific web pages – you just need your keyboard and to focus a little.

1. Mojave Hotkeys

Best for: Fast full-page capture

Good news for macOS 10.14 Mojave users! You have a key combination that lets you take a screenshot while scrolling.

Press Shift + Command + 5 simultaneously. The grey capture panel will appear on your screen. This is the entire screenshot function.

There’s also one other combination that grabs the whole page. Hit Shift + Command + 3 and see what you get!

2. Developer Tools

Best for: Screenshotting in Google Chrome without installing third-party software

If you use Google Chrome, there’s a simple way to scroll while taking a screenshot with developer tools. Honestly, this way is not the most convenient because you’ll need to spend some time finding the required settings. But if you’re used to HTML code, you may find it interesting to use developer tools.

This is how to take a long screenshot on a Mac.

safari scrolling screenshot

Step 1. Open Developer Tools by clicking on the three dots on the top right corner of your browser.

Step 2. Open the searching area and type "screenshot".

Step 3. Choose the size of the screenshot. Don't press Enter . Click on the preferred size with your mouse.

Step 4. Take the screencap and save it to your desktop.

3. Print and save the file

Best for: Saving a screenshot in PDF

This might be defined a bit like cheating. You pretend you want to print the web page, but instead of printing, you save it as a PDF file to your computer! It’s even quicker than extensions or online recorders.

The obvious disadvantage of this method is that you cannot choose the file format. If you need PNG or JPG, you’ll have to convert the image later.

safari scrolling screenshot

Step 1. Open your browser and find the Print option in the settings. You can also press Command + P .

Step 2. Click the Save button to download the file as a PDF.

4. Firefox Screenshots

Best for: Screenshotting in Mozilla Firefox without installing third-party software

If you use Mozilla Firefox, you can also use the built-in browser screenshotting tool. It works well, doesn’t crash, and provides a high-resolution image. But the best part is that you can get a shareable link.

safari scrolling screenshot

Step 1. Open the Page actions menu. To do this, hit the three dots icon in the top right corner of the address bar.

Step 2. Click on Take a Screenshot .

Step 3. Now choose the Save full page option.

Step 4. When the screenshot is done, save it to the desktop or copy the link to share.

5. Parallels Toolbox

Best for: Multifunctional work with media

MacUpdate rating : 5 out of 5 stars.

Parallels Toolbox is one more third-party app that we’d like to mention in this article. Though it’s not free, the program extends the functionality of your macOS. You can archive files, record screens, take screenshots, convert videos, control screen modes, and much more. According to user reviews, it is worth the price. Note that the price is for an annual subscription.

The only disadvantage is that, if you need to make an online screen capture, Parallels Toolbox will work only with Safari.

Download Parallels Toolbox

safari scrolling screenshot

To use the screenshot functionality in the Parallels Toolbox, follow these steps:

  • Download and install the Parallels Desktop app.
  • Open the Parallels Desktop app and click on the toolbox icon in the toolbar.
  • Select the Screenshot Page option.
  • Choose the page you want to screenshot, and Parallels will take a scrolling screenshot of the whole page for you.
  • Finish up and save your screenshot on your computer.

You mean a video recording? Or something else?

Command-Shift-5 is your friend, in any case. You choose what area of the screen to capture, you can capture video (with sound if you want to) or still images. And you can set a delay of 5 or 10 seconds before the shot is taken or recording starts, so you can capture exactly what you need.

Today's NYT Strands hints and answers.

Looking for Wednesday’s Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here:

Hey, everyone! I hope you’re having an excellent week so far.

Today’s NYT Strands hints, spangram and answers are coming right up.

How To Play Strands

The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links at least two sides of the board, but it may not start or end there. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Every letter is used once in one of the theme words and spangram. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and it’s possible to switch directions in the middle of a word. If you’re playing on a touchscreen, double tap the last letter to submit your guess.

If you find three valid words of at least four letters that are not part of the theme, you’ll unlock the Hint button. Clicking this will highlight the letters that make up one of the theme words.

Be warned: You’ll need to be on your toes. Sometimes you’ll need to fill the missing word(s) in a phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will vary from day to day, and the puzzle creators will try to surprise you sometimes.

What Is Today’s Strands Hint?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hint for today’s Strands puzzle, I’ll reveal what the answer words are.

The official theme hint for today’s Strand puzzle is...

Better together

Need some extra help? Here’s another hint...

Delectable companions

There are seven theme words to find today, including the spangram.

What Are Today’s Strands Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Strands answers.

I’ll first tell you the spangram and show you where that is on the grid. I’ll then tell you the other words and show you how they fit in.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Strands spangram is...

  • COMBO MEALS

Here’s where you’ll find it on the grid...

New York Times Strands screenshot, showing the highlighted term COMBO MEALS.

The rest of today’s Strands theme words are...

Here’s what the completed grid looks like...

Completed Strands grid for June 26 featuring the words MACARONI, BISCUITS, BURGER, COMBO MEALS, ... [+] GRAVY, FRIES and CHEESE.

My first instinct was to look for things that usually come in pairs, even though I think that’s been a Strands theme before. However, spotting GRAVY in the bottom right corner made me question that. Sure, enough, BISCUITS in the top right made me realize we’re literally looking for two things that go together.

I then found CHEESE at the bottom, but that pairs well with all kinds of things! I didn’t see the letters for “crackers” or “wine” anywhere, though. FRIES in the bottom left made me think BURGER was somewhere on the grid. Sure enough, I found it seconds later. That helped the spangram stand out, leaving MACARONI (which makes for a truly wonderful pairing for cheese) for victory.

Oddly enough, I had mac and cheese for dinner one night this week.

I didn’t need any hints to complete this grid and had a perfect game. The spangram was the sixth theme word I found.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Strands clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Friday’s game if you need them.

Here’s how to turn on iPhone Eye Tracking in iOS 18

Avatar for Michael Potuck

iOS 18 includes several new accessibility features for iPhone with the headlining one being the ability to control the smartphone with just your eyes. Whether you have an accessibility need or just want to tinker with the new feature, here’s how to turn on iPhone Eye Tracking in iOS 18.

Apple puts a lot of effort into making iPhone and its other devices accessible to all users. With iOS 18, new possibilities are unlocked with Eye Tracking, Music Haptics, and Vocal Shortcuts.

  • iOS 18 accessibility features hailed as life-changing by disability campaigner

Apple previewed the new iOS 18 accessibility features in May and now you can test them out with the iOS 18 beta.

How to turn on iPhone Eye Tracking in iOS 18

To get the best results, Apple recommends setting up Eye Tracking with your iPhone on a stable surface roughly 1.5 feet away from your face.

  • Make sure you’re running the iOS 18 beta on your iPhone ( full guide )
  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap Accessibility
  • Swipe down and choose Eye Tracking (under Physical And Motor)
  • Tap the toggle to turn on Eye Tracking
  • Follow the calibration process where you track a colored circle around the screen with your eyes

Dwell Control will automatically be turned on after completing the Eye Tracking setup.

With Dwell Control, maintaining your gaze still for a specified duration will perform the selected dwell action. To customize, go to Dwell Control settings within AssistiveTouch.

When AssistiveTouch is enabled (you should be prompted to connect Eye Tracking/Dwell and Assistive Touch), you can use Eye Tracking to lock your iPhone, go to the Home Screen, scroll, and more.

Here’s how it looks to turn on iPhone Eye Tracking in iOS 18:

After finishing the calibration, you may be asked if you’d like to use Dwell and Scroll with AssistiveTouch for more functionality.

That’s it! You should be all set to control iPhone with Eye Tracking. As shown above, you’ll see a white outline around the button/app/area you’re focusing on when Eye Tracking is in use. Hold your focus (Dwell) to select something.

And you can still use your touchscreen while using Eye Tracking.

If your Eye Tracking doesn’t feel accurate or responsive, try setting it up again with your iPhone on a stand with your face ~1.5 feet away.
