What’s so special about Seaside, Florida?
Seaside, Florida sits along Highway 30A between the towns of Destin and Panama City Beach on Florida’s Emerald Coast.
As one of the most picturesque beach communities on the Florida panhandle, Seaside is best known as the location for the 1998 film, The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey.
And while the plot of that fictional movie was too good to be true, the pastel-colored beach houses, iconic whitewashed post office, and architect-designed walkways are actual staples of Seaside, Florida.
Seaside’s soft white sand, pristine landscaping, and crisp coastal charm attract vacation goers who like to ditch their cars, kick back, and relax.
Known as the birthplace of the New Urbanism architectural design movement, Seaside provides a life and a vacation experience like no other – as you truly do not need a car to get around.
Its purposeful layout was developed so that its restaurants, shops, entertainment, homes, and schools are all within a 10-minute walk.
With 2,800 permanent residents and 490 homes (300 of which are rentals), Seaside’s simple and practical way of life makes for the perfect beach vacation.
Oh, and psst…we love the Emerald Coast so much that we’ve written several other posts to help you plan your trip!

1. Head to the beach
With sugar-white sand and clean, emerald-colored water, spending a day at the beach in Seaside is an absolute must.
Although Seaside has some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States, 8 of the 9 beach access points are private to residents or guests staying at Seaside’s hotels or rental homes.
Seaside only has 1 public beach access area that is accessed via the Coleman Pavilion, located next to Seaside’s famous Bud & Alley’s Restaurant.
If you want to access the beach as a guest, you need to pay for a mandatory beach chair and umbrella rental that costs approximately $100/day per group of 2.
Personal chairs, umbrellas, or tents are not permitted.
Here’s a quick look at Seaside Beach, and our other favorite beaches in the area:
Seaside Beach
Seaside Beach is accessed through a variety of private beach pavilions that connect to different neighborhoods within the community.
Residents and paying guests are given a beach pavilion entry code – with the exception of the Coleman pavilion which can be accessed by the general public.
Though Seaside Beach is privately owned, you can still enjoy its luxury when you rent a beach chair and umbrella.
There are also paddle boards and kayaks for rent.
Public Beaches in the Area
Here is a list of the public beaches in the area that are also more affordable.
- Van Ness Butler Beach (free parking, lifeguards, close to Seaside’s city center)
- Blue Mountain Beach (large sand dunes with blue flowers, nearby hiking trails)
- Santa Rosa Beach (Ed Walline beach access, free parking, lifeguards, restrooms)
- Grayton Beach State Park (pristine beach, $5 parking, camping, hiking trails)
Additional planning tip: Be sure to pack the appropriate Florida beach essentials to be adequately prepared for a perfect day at the beach!

2. Visit “The Nine Seaside”
Seaside’s unique, Instagram-worthy beach pavilions are referred to as “The Nine Seaside”.
Visiting and photographing one or all of them is one of the most popular things to do in Seaside.
After all, each of the 9 pavilions is architecturally unique, acting as both beach entrance points and a gathering spot for families and friends.
Located at the end of each street in Seaside, Florida, each pavilion is owned by that street’s homeowners association and was designed to make Seaside stand out from other beach destinations.
While their main function is to provide a “gateway” to the beach, the pavilions also help protect the dune system.
Here are the names of the Nine Seaside beach pavilions from east to west:
- Tupelo Beach Pavilion
- Savannah Beach Pavilion
- East Ruskin Beach Pavilion
- Seaside Beach Pavilion
- Coleman Beach Pavilion
- West Ruskin Beach Pavilion
- Pensacola Beach Pavilion
- Odessa Beach Pavilion
- Natchez Beach Pavilion

3. Relax at Central Square
Relaxing in Central Square is a must-do activity in Seaside, Florida
Central Square , a public gathering place in the center of town, is the basis for which Seaside was designed and is the true heart of this community.
When this town center isn’t hosting the weekly farmer’s market, it’s one of the best places to relax, read a book, or spend quality time with family and friends.
Pack a picnic, bring along a frisbee, and enjoy its ample picnic areas and surrounding green space.
Central Square is surrounded by quaint shops, unique eateries, and pedestrian-only walkways.

4. Photograph the Vincent Scully Mural
Located next to Central Square on the side of 25 Central Square is a gigantic outdoor wall mural.
Photographing the Vincent Scully Mural has become one of the best things to do in Seaside due to its enormous size and its vibrant purple color.
The mural pays homage to Vincent Scully, a great American historian and educator who helped inspire the New Urbanism movement that Seaside was founded on.
![places to visit in seaside florida Airstream Row in Seaside, Florida](https://travelwithaplan.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Seaside-airstream-row-1024x768.jpg)
5. Grab a bite on Airstream Row
Located adjacent to Central Square, and only steps away from the ocean, is Seaside’s Airstream Row!
As one of the best things to do in Seaside, Airstream Row is a group of custom, converted, aluminum airstream trailers turned gourmet food trucks.
Here, you’ll find vendors serving up quality barbecue, hot dogs, gyros, grilled cheeses, donuts, snow cones, and crêpes.
With friendly service and delicious food, you’ll easily spot these silver Airstream trailers permanently parked in the shade of palm trees.

6. Stroll the streets of Seaside
The residential streets of Seaside are lined with charming cottages and homes filled with character.
Their timeless designs come in various sizes and shapes with each home being painted either white or a muted pastel color.
Adorned with an exterior porch and often times pillars, all of the homes are connected through a maze-like pattern of white-sand paths.
Another characteristic of Seaside is that each home has a unique white picket fence that gives the community a storybook feel – no two houses on the same street can have the same picket fence .
As one of the most unique things to do in Seaside, both kids and adults alike will love strolling through the streets to explore this fascinating architecture!
7. Sample local fares at the farmer’s market
One of my favorite things to do in Seaside, Florida is to visit the weekly farmer’s market.
Located in Central Square, the Seaside Farmers Market takes place every Saturday morning.
Their offerings have a focus on seasonal, sustainable farming practices with farm-fresh items for purchase.
This is a great way to experience the local culture, as it is a community event that everyone comes out to enjoy.
It’s also the perfect spot to pick up some Florida fresh fruits – the ultimate beach snack!
While the market is fairly small, the quality of produce, baked goods, and hot foods are unbeatable.
Additional planning tip: Get there for opening at 9:00 AM for the best selection.
![places to visit in seaside florida Seaside Post Office](https://travelwithaplan.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Seaside-post-office-1024x768.jpg)
8. Photograph the Seaside Post Office
Another must-do activity in Seaside is to photograph the Seaside Post Office – commemorative stamps are available too!
As one of the most iconic buildings in the community, the Seaside Post Office claims to be the most photographed post office in the United States.
This whitewashed structure (with a bright red door!) is a real, functioning post office, however, has no computer – only a scale and adding machine.
The staff at Seaside Post Office pride themselves in “doing it the old-fashioned way”.
9. Get your fill of local cuisine
Food is such an important part of any trip and it’s often said that you can’t truly experience a place without sampling the local cuisine.
Luckily, Seaside has no shortage of food for you to try.
These are some of the most popular Seaside restaurants:
- Great Southern Cafe – Stop by for good food and a convenient location in Central Square. They serve southern specialties that anyone would love.
- Modica Market – An iconic Seaside grocery store perfect for loading up on beach provisions.
- Stinky’s Fish Camp – A must-stop along Highway 30A offering comfort foods like gumbo and fish tacos alongside live music and rotating special events.
- Shrimp Shack – Try their fresh seafood including Gulf shrimp, oysters, or gumbo bread bowls. You can even order to go and eat on the beach!
- Bud & Alley’s Waterfront Restaurant – Try this seaside spot for sea views from their rooftop bar along with great food and a friendly atmosphere (the crab cakes are a must!)
- Blue Mountain Beach Creamery – The best dessert spot in town – grab a frozen treat like ice cream, sorbet, and frozen yogurt.
10. Explore by bike
Biking in Seaside is a vibe, and everyone’s doing it!
Because Seaside is such a quaint, compact town, you’ll see most vacation-goers riding around town on a bike or in a golf cart.
Though most vacation rentals in Seaside come with the use of bikes (check the listing!), there are also several places to rent bikes by the hour, by the day, or by the week.
In addition to there being a prevalence of bike rentals, there are also plenty of bike racks and bike parking spaces located conveniently throughout the community.
Additional planning tip: Looking for more extensive biking opportunities in Seaside? Connect on to the 19-mile Timpoochee Trail and ride for as long or as little as you’d like.
11. See a show at the Seaside Amphitheater
If you’re looking for a little bit of live entertainment, look no further than the Seaside Amphitheater.
It is one of the most popular places in Seaside, with movies playing every Friday night, along with shows, and live music.
This spot offers so much more than your run-of-the-mill movie theaters – it’s a true gathering place for families and community members.
Pull up a lawn chair or spread out a picnic blanket to enjoy a show (don’t forget some snacks!).
12. Admire the Seaside Chapel
Although the Seaside Chapel is most recognized for its stunning architecture, whitewashed exterior, and simple, 68-foot bell tower, it is a functioning chapel that hosts weekly services and storybook weddings.
The interfaith chapel seats 175 people with Sunday services amplified outside for overflow guests.
As one of the best things to do in Seaside, head to 582 Forest Street in Ruskin Square to visit the Seaside Chapel.
![places to visit in seaside florida Here's our list of the best things to do in Seaside, Florida from top US family travel blog, Travel With A Plan!](https://travelwithaplan.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Seaside-sundog-books-1024x768.jpg)
13. Browse at Sundog Books
Browsing at Sundog Books is one of my favorite things to do in Seaside!
Overlooking Central Square, Sundog Books is an independent bookstore filled to the brim with a brilliant collection of books for all ages.
With a fun, relaxed vibe, you’ll love the homey feel of the bookstore as well as the chance to browse or buy books and exclusive Sundog merch!
14. Visit an art gallery
A favorite thing to do on any vacation is to view some community art.
And what better place to do that than at an art gallery?
Fusion Art Gallery is one of the area’s most popular art galleries, featuring works from over 150 American artists.
Here, you’ll find glass art, jewelry, ceramics, and more.
They even have art available for purchase as a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
15. Go hiking
If you’re looking for one of the best things to do near Seaside, Florida, consider going hiking at nearby Grayton Beach State Park.
Grayton Beach State Park is located in Santa Rosa Beach, just twenty minutes northwest of Seaside.
This quick trip is well worth it as the park’s popular nature trails will take you through stunning dunes, salt marshes, and pine flatwoods.
Along the trail, you may even spot local wildlife including birds, white-tailed deer, and gray foxes.
If you want to make a day out of it, the park offers several other activities including:
- Paddling Western Lake
- Swimming at the beach
- Bird watching
- Fishing

16. Take a drive down Highway 30A
Seaside is just one of many beautiful stops along Florida’s scenic Highway 30A!
With unbelievable views of the Gulf of Mexico, driving along the 24-mile Highway 30A is well worth the effort whether you’re just going for a ride or choosing to stop in neighboring beach towns.
This scenic highway winds its way through quaint seaside towns including Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach, Santa Rosa Beach (and more), providing ample opportunity to shop and explore.
17. Visit neighboring beach towns
If you have the time, I highly recommend touring some of Seaside’s surrounding beach towns.
Each location has its own unique charms with beaches, shops, and landmarks.
Spend a day in any of these towns, just minutes away from Seaside:
- Seagrove Beach
- Santa Rosa Beach
- Rosemary Beach
- Fort Walton Beach
- Panama City Beach
More things to do in Seaside Florida
Though small in size, there is still a lot to see and explore in Seaside, Florida.
Other fun sights and activities in Seaside include:
17. Visit Duckies Shop of Fun (a whimsical shop with toys, beach gear, and fun gifts).
18. Rest at Ruskin Place (a quiet, grassy park shaded by giant oak trees, located by the Seaside Chapel).
19. Visit the Truman Show House (Found at 31 Natchez Street).
20. Browse records at Central Square Records (one of America’s classic music and vinyl record stores).
21. Go kayaking or paddleboarding (Check out The Rental Shop 30A for watersport rentals).

Best Time to Visit Seaside, Florida
Though Seaside, Florida is a great place to visit year-round, most people feel that the best time to visit is during the months of April to May .
From mid-April to the end of May, the days are long and sunny and the temperatures are comfortable (expect highs in the mid-70s and 80s).
The spring break crowds have fizzled out by then so you can enjoy Seaside’s activities without feeling crowded.
Another popular time to visit Seaside, especially if you’re most interested in swimming in the ocean, is during the summer months of June, July, and August.
During the summer months, you can expect higher daily temps in the high 80s.

Searching for the best things to do in Seaside, Florida ? Look no further! This small town in the corner of northwest Florida packs a lot of charm, natural beauty, and activities for the whole family.
One of Seaside’s biggest claims to fame was that it was the filming location for the 1998 film The Truman Show and it’s clear to see why. Seaside, Florida is home to beautiful pastel-colored houses with manicured lawns and white picket fences. You might feel like you walked onto a movie set, but it’s very real!
This Americana allure extends to all of the fun things to do in Seaside, Florida. From browsing the farmer’s market to visiting the beach, to an annual dachshund race, there are plenty of things to do in Seaside. You’ll enjoy the laidback feeling and sense of community in Seaside.

Swim at Seagrove Beach
Considering the name “Seaside”, it would only make sense that one of the best things to do in Seaside, Florida is to go to the beach! True to its name as well, Seagrove Beach is an excellent place to catch some sun.
Seagrove Beach runs parallel to County Highway 30A and offers a mile and a half of sandy cove to explore. Like many of the beaches on the Gulf of Mexico , Seagrove Beach features beautiful, warm blue water. The sand is sugary white, and protected by groves of trees.
Visiting Seagrove Beach is one of the best things to do near Seaside with kids! After you’ve had a fun day at the beach, stick around to watch the stunning sunset across the gulf.
![places to visit in seaside florida A wooden walkway leading to Seagrove Beach, one of the best things to do in Seaside, Florida.](https://floridatrippers.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Things-to-do-in-Seaside-FL-Seagrove-Beach.jpg)
Count the Beach Pavillions
“What’s so special about beach pavillions?” you may ask. Well in Seaside, Florida there are nine individually designed pavilions stretching along the water, and they’re some of the more unique things to see in Seaside.
Each pavilion in Seaside is located at the end of a road, marking the entrance to the beach, and is owned by a different homeowner association. The architectural styles vary, but the pavilions all play an important role. Not only do they make good places to meet or take photos, but they also protect the sand dunes from foot traffic.
The beach pavilions add a fun visual element to Seaside and are worth visiting, whether you visit one or all nine.

Hit the Trails at Grayton Beach State Park
One of the best things to do near Seaside, Florida is to take in the natural beauty of Grayton Beach State Park. Located just outside of town, it’s one of the more popular state parks in Florida and offers a variety of activities.
Grayton Beach State Park features a 4.5-mile paved trail that can be hiked or cycled, and it passes through a coastal forest full of scrub oaks and magnolias. If you’re looking for an easier walk, there’s a 1-mile nature hike that passes through the dune ecosystem and pine flatwoods.
After your hike, cool off with a swim in the pristine emerald waters of Grayton Beach!
![places to visit in seaside florida A natural trail through brush at Grayton Beach State Park, one of the best things to do in Seaside, Florida.](https://floridatrippers.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Things-to-do-in-Seaside-FL-Grayton-State-Park.jpg)
Paddle Western Lake
While you’re at Grayton Beach State Park, another of the best things to do near Seaside is to visit Western Lake, one of the larger dune lakes in America.
Dune lakes are a natural phenomenon in which a lake is fed freshwater from rain and streams, but it gets mixed with saltwater from a nearby ocean. Florida and Oregon are the only two states in America to have this phenomenon!
At Western Lake, you can bring your own canoe or kayak, or you can rent one from the ranger station (a life vest is provided). Put your boat in at the boat ramp and paddle around the 100-acre lake and take in views of the surrounding state park.
![places to visit in seaside florida Sunrise over the calm waters of Western Lake in Grayton Beach State Park.](https://floridatrippers.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Things-to-do-in-Seaside-FL-Western-Lake.jpg)
See the Sights Along Highway 30A
One of the most popular things to do near Seaside, Florida is to drive along Scenic Highway 30A and take in the sights. Highway 30A runs for 24 miles along the Gulf of Mexico, connecting state parks, and passing through residential areas.
Beautiful sights on Highway 30A include both man-made and natural wonders. Enjoy views of stunning blue waters, sugary white beaches, and blooming wildflowers. Then marvel at the different architecture of each town, from the classic pastel cottages of Seaside to the rise of New Urbanism, which focuses on making walkable neighborhoods.
Rare plants and animals can be found along Highway 30A, including the sand pine (which only grows on the Gulf coast), the endangered Choctawhatchee beach mouse, and the red-cockaded woodpecker.

Eat at Airstream Row
While you’re driving along Highway 30A, stop for lunch at Airstream Row! These shiny vintage Airstream trailers house some of the most unique places to eat in Seaside.
When Case Cooper lost the retail space where he sold shaved ice, he decided to buy an Airstream and sell out it instead. Twenty years later the area has turned into a little community of gourmet food trucks, each offering something fun and different.
You can visit the original and try some shaved ice at Frost Bites, or indulge in something more savory like Hawaiin BBQ, or a grilled cheese from The Meltdown on 30A. Once you’ve made your pick, enjoy it at any of the white picnic tables along the street, or take it down to the beach!
Airstream Row managed to thrive on the food truck trend and is not only fun to look at, but delicious as well! Eating lunch at any of the Airstreams is a must-do in Seaside, Florida.

Do Some Yoga in the Pavillion
If you’re in need of some downward dog time, one of the more relaxing things to do in Seaside is to join in a yoga class held in the Seaside Pavillion. Take deep breaths and stretch it out while you listen to the soothing sound of the waves.
Vinyasa classes are held weekday mornings at 8:30 AM, weather permitting. Bring your own yoga mat or towel and a water bottle. Classes can be paid for by cash, check, or Venmo. Space is limited, and are first-come first-serve, so make sure to get there early!

Try Local Wines at the Seeing Red Wine Festival
If you are visiting in mid-November (and are over 21 years old), one of the best things to do in Seaside, Florida is to attend the annual Seeing Red Wine Festival. Held over a weekend, this festival has been rated by Fodor’s Travel as one of the Top 10 Can’t-Miss Fall Wine Festivals.
When you think of fruits that grow in Florida, grapes probably aren’t at the top of the list, however, Florida actually has some beautiful wineries . The Seeing Red Wine Festival has become an annual tradition in Seaside and showcases regional wines. Restaurants and businesses in Seaside come together to pair wines with local food, creating a treat for your palette.
Best of all, businesses also work with local charities, so you can drink up knowing you’re helping a good cause!

10 Top-Rated Things to Do in Seaside, FL
Written by Michael Law Apr 20, 2022
A visit to Seaside should be on everyone's to-do list when visiting Florida's Panhandle. This exceptionally unique town, created from scratch but according to very specific guidelines is a somewhat mind-bending experience. The town was developed by one man, Robert Davis, and it was his vision of a New Urbanist community that evolved from 80 acres of undeveloped land into the place it is today.
As you visit, you may find a sense of déjà vu, thinking to yourself that you've seen this place somewhere before. You would not be mistaken if you've seen the movie The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey. The movie was filmed on location in Seaside .
It's not all about the town. Seaside boasts one of the finest beaches along the Gulf of Mexico . You'll love the beach and how its sun-kissed sand glows brightly in the sun, while crystal-clear waters lap at its shoreline.
Explore the attractions in this unusual town with our list of the top things to do in Seaside.

Seaside has a lovely beach, and for those living or renting in town, it's a small slice of paradise. Access is limited to those with temporary or permanent residence or for those who pay for a beach chair rental. These restrictions make it a private beach for all intents and purposes.
Access to the beach is from one of six access points located at the end of roadways leading to the water. Count on a set of stairs to get to the water, so plan your beach gear assortment carefully, unless you don't mind a few trips up and down.
![places to visit in seaside florida Umbrellas and chairs on the beach in Seaside](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-seaside-beach-umbrellas.jpg)
Due to the restrictions in place, you can count on a wide-open beach with few other tourists. Finding a perfect patch of sand to set up is never an issue. Choose your beach access depending on what you like to do. If you like access to restaurants and services, set up at the main beach. That way, you can ascend the stairs and grab a bite at one of the restaurants or food trucks nearby. If you want peace and quiet, pick any one of the other five access points.
![places to visit in seaside florida A street in Seaside](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-white-picket-fences.jpg)
In Seaside, everything is controlled, from the style of homes, width of the streets, and what trees are planted. All homes are built to the approved "Seaside Code" and have front porches and picket fences . The town was designed to be exceptionally walkable, with cars not banished, but certainly not the main mode of transport.
Seaside has a delightful town square complete with a large open amphitheater . Throughout the year, performances of music and theater take place here most afternoons and evenings. Back from the amphitheater, you'll find a variety of retail stores including an excellent bookstore. Be sure to check out the miniature, but fully functioning, historical-styled post office .
![places to visit in seaside florida Post Office in Seaside](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-post-office.jpg)
In addition to the central square and amphitheater, Seaside also has another popular square worth visiting. Ruskin Square is located a short stroll north of the main square, and it's here that you'll find galleries and specialty boutique stores likely selling that perfect piece for that blank spot on your living room wall.
Take some time to wander off the main square and back through the pleasant side streets of the town. In among the 300 or so homes, you'll see a modern take on Florida Cracker-style architecture akin to that found in small towns across the southern United States. The streets are tree-lined, quiet, and shady and perfect for walking, jogging, or pushing a stroller.
If you continue towards the water, eventually you will come to one of Seaside's highlights: the gazebo. From this elevated position, you'll be able to gaze up and down the coastline, down at the beach below, and far out into the Gulf of Mexico.
![places to visit in seaside florida A food truck in Seaside](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-food-truck.jpg)
If you head towards the beach from the main square, you will likely be tempted by the tantalizing aromas emanating from the lineup of Airstream trailers posing as food trucks lining the sidewalk. Here, you'll find a wide variety of taste-bud-pleasing epicurean offerings available, sure to please everyone in your group. Known locally as the Land Yacht District, this fun and vibrant place is definitely a must-do when in town.
Choosing what to eat is a challenge with so many offerings, but take your time and give it some serious thought. Will you have a grass-fed beef hot dog from Wild Will's Beach Dogs? Or, perhaps a cheesy and gooey sandwich from The Melt Down on 30A. You are in the South, so BBQ is always an option, and the Barefoot BBQ serves up some of the best around.
All that savory food may have you yearning for a sweet treat to balance your palate. This becomes a challenge: do you go for a gut-busting crepe like Bananas Foster from Crepes de Soleil, or do you do the (relatively!) healthy thing and get a shaved ice from Frost Bites?
No matter what you eventually choose, finding a seat nearby under the trees is generally easy, or stroll over to the grass in the amphitheater for an impromptu picnic.
Across the street, you'll find additional restaurants, several of which have been completely renovated and updated in the past year.
![places to visit in seaside florida Surfer in Seaside, FL](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-top-rated-things-to-do-take-surfing-lesson.jpg)
Although Seaside isn't known as a surfing hot spot, the waves at the beach are decent enough for those new to the sport to give it a try. A fun family thing to do, surfing lessons are a great way to get out on the water for some good times.
Lessons are available in town from a local provider, and the focus is on kids. Professional instructors teach private and group lessons with a focus on water safety and having fun. All the equipment is provided, and if it's cold, they'll outfit you with a wetsuit.
If you are in town for a longer stretch of time and want some adult alone time, consider signing the younger ones up for surf camp. A combination of surfing, boogie boarding, stand up paddleboarding, and snorkeling are the main activities. Off the water, the kids learn about the ocean, waves, and marine biology.

In this day and age of practically everything being electronic, it's a true delight to see a bookstore thriving in a town. In this case, it's not on some side street with cheap rent; Sundog Books is front and center on the main square in the liveliest part of Seaside. Housed in a two-story building complete with wraparound porches with comfy seating, this place is truly a gem.
Operated by the same family for over 30 years, this literary hub is the place to visit along the Emerald Coast of Florida to find the book you need to make your beach vacation even better. The fine assortment of books ranges from the latest bestseller right through to some obscure and eclectic titles you'd have trouble finding elsewhere.
In addition to books, Sundog Books also sells puzzles, games (ideal for a rainy day), souvenirs, T-shirts and sweaters, along with collectible coffee mugs.
![places to visit in seaside florida The amphitheater in Seaside](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-amphitheater-3.jpg)
Seaside prides itself on having an active and interesting cultural scene. Most of the action takes place at the amphitheater right in the town square. Almost every day throughout the year, a performance of some sort takes place.
The schedule changes frequently, so you never quite know what will be happening. Most days, however, you'll find something for kids around midday. Special events throughout the year, like Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day, or the Fourth of July, generally see special programming as well.

Those with a sweet tooth will also find fresh baking and sweets. Homemade preserves, pickles, and other fantastic creations also are on offer. ![places to visit in seaside florida Rosemary Beach](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-rosemary-beach-park-and-buildings.jpg)
Creating towns out of scrub is a thing along this stretch of coastline, and Rosemary Beach is a prime example of another themed development. Created by the same folks that built Seaside, Rosemary Beach is well worth a day trip. The town's main commercial center is a mash up of architecture from the Dutch West Indies combined with a European alpine town.
Housed in these buildings are a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and hotels. The town is leafy and green and a pleasant place for a stroll. Take some time to wander along the narrow, leafy laneways, home to lovely and unique homes.
Unfortunately, the beach in the center of town is not accessible to those not staying at one of the local hotels or rental homes.
![places to visit in seaside florida Grayton Beach State Park](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-grayton-beach-state-park.jpg)
If Seaside is just a bit too perfect for you, and you are craving a bit of nature, a great place to head to is Grayton Beach State Park. Just a bit west of Seaside, this state park will more than provide the dose of nature that you require.
Spread out over 2,000 acres, this is one of the best state parks along this stretch of the Florida Panhandle. Home to one of the most spectacular and beautiful beaches in the area, the park attracts beachgoers from far and wide. Despite its amazing beach, the park rarely feels crowded; you'll easily be able to find your own perfect patch of sand to set up for your day in the sun.
That said, the park is much more than just a place to hit the beach. Grayton Beach State park is home to nine round-trip miles of hiking trails that are both paved and natural. Strap on your hiking boots, or stay in your flip flops, and stroll along the one-mile coastal trail as it leads you through the coastal scrub interspersed with colorful magnolia trees. Another 4.5-mile one-way trail, this one paved, winds its way throughout the entire park. This trail is ideal for a family bike ride, jog, or pushing a stroller.
If you've brought your kayak or stand up paddleboard, and the Gulf of Mexico has been too rough to go out, consider a paddle on Western Lake. The late is protected from most of the winds and weather of the wide-open gulf, and its clear waters are a delight to float about on.
![places to visit in seaside florida Topsail Hill Preserve State Park](https://www.planetware.com/wpimages/2022/04/florida-seaside-things-to-do-topsail-hill-preserve-state-park.jpg)
If Grayton Beach State Park has whetted your taste for an outdoor adventure in nature, consider a trip to the slightly smaller, but wilder Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. Also home to a spectacular 3.2-mile deserted beach backed by nothing but forest, this state park may put you into nature overload.
Here, you'll find 15 miles of hiking trails winding their way through old-growth forest. One of the more interesting trails leads to the ruins of a historic turpentining operation. Another will take you to Campbell Lake, where you'll be able to see carnivorous plants in their natural environment. A trail not to be missed is the Morris Lake trail that winds its way past the ruins of the JB-2 rocket program from WWII.
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is also a birding hot spot. As you walk the trails or head to the beach, keep an eye out for red-shouldered hawks, ospreys, cardinals, and many others.
Note that if you are heading to the beach, you must either walk, ride, or take the complimentary beach tram the roughly one mile to the beach.

Located in the heart of Seaside at Seaside Amphitheater, the market is just a short walk from the beach.
Every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm , the market comes to life with the sounds of laughter and visitors.
The stalls are piled high with brightly colored locally grown fruits and vegetables, and the air is filled with the smell of fresh bread and pastries.
Relax at Ruskin Place
Ruskin Place is a tranquil oasis sandwiched between Seaside Chapel and Seaside’s Central Square (town center/town square).
Ruskin Place Park is surrounded by art galleries and boutiques, and it’s the perfect place to take a break from shopping and exploring.
Grab a book from Sundog Books and read it beneath the park’s towering oak trees.
The Nine Seaside, Florida Beach Pavilions

A beach pavilion in Seaside.
Seaside is home to nine distinct beach pavilions, which are important landmarks in Seaside and other beach towns on 30A.
There is a pavilion at the end of every street in Seaside, and it’s owned by that street’s homeowners association.
Each pavilion has its own distinct architecture, but they all share the same purpose — to be a hangout place for the community and serve as the beach’s gateway.
The nine pavilions are:
- Natchez Pavilion
- Pensacola Pavilion
- West Ruskin Pavilion
- Odessa Pavilion
- Wedding Pavilion
- Tupelo Pavilion
- Savanah Pavilion
- East Ruskin Pavilion
- Coleman Pavilion
Peruse the Art Galleries and Shops

You can find the Vincent Scully tribute mural at 25 Central Square in Seaside.
Seaside is well-known for its art galleries and quaint shops.
Stroll down any of the streets in Seaside, and you’ll find yourself stopping into art gallery after gallery.
The artists who call Seaside home are inspired by the town’s natural beauty, and their work reflects that.
One such artist is Vincent Scully, one of Seaside’s early supporters. He passed away in 2022, and a massive mural at 25 Central Square commemorates his legacy.
You’ll also find an array of mediums represented in the galleries, including painting, photography, sculpture, and jewelry.
In addition to art galleries, Seaside is home to various unique shops.
From beach boutiques to upscale clothing stores, there’s a store where you can’t resist buying something.
Popping in from gallery to gallery is one of the most fun Seaside Florida things to do — especially on a rainy day.

Eat Your Way Around Airstream Row
![places to visit in seaside florida Rows of airstreams in Seaside that operate as food trucks.](https://www.dishadiscovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/airstream-row-seaside-florida-1024x666.jpeg)
Can’t miss things to do in Seaside Florida is to experience Airstream Row.
Sampling the food at Airstream Row is one of my very favorite things to do in Seaside Florida.
This row of Airstream trailers has been turned into gourmet food trucks, each with its unique atmosphere and menu.
Whether you’re in the mood for barbecue, grilled cheese, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, hot dogs, or crepes, you’ll find it at Airstream Row.
It’s one of the coolest concepts for a food court or food truck I’ve ever seen, and it’s hard for me to pick a favorite airstream.
It’s worth visiting Airstream Row on an empty stomach so you can sample a little bit of everything!
Kayak on the Beach
![places to visit in seaside florida Colorful kayaks on the sand.](https://www.dishadiscovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/kayaks-on-the-beach-1024x666.jpeg)
Kayaking on the ocean is one of the coolest things to do in Seaside Florida.
One of the things I love most about Seaside is that it’s surrounded by nature.
There are several state parks and natural areas nearby, and one of the best things to do in Seaside Florida is kayaking.
You can rent kayaks and paddle boards from several different places in Seaside and then paddle your way around 30A.
I recommend renting your kayak from The Rental Shop 30A. Their prices are competitive, and their customer service is excellent.
The best time to go kayaking is in the morning because the waves are gentle and the water is calm. Later in the day, the winds pick up, and the waves can get a bit choppy.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and other marine life!
See the Truman Show House

Visiting the Truman Show house is one of the most popular things to do in Seaside Florida.
This house was used in the filming of the movie The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey.
If you’re a fan of the movie, then you’ll definitely want to check out this house. Even if you’ve never seen the movie, it’s still worth a visit.
The house is located at 31 Natchez Street and has the same colors and designs from the movie.
Be sure to take plenty of pictures!
Visit Grayton Beach State Park
![places to visit in seaside florida A black and white bird flying over powdery white sand and clear emerald waters at Grayton Beach State Park in Florida.](https://www.dishadiscovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/grayton-beach-state-park-1024x666.jpeg)
Grayton Beach State Park
Grayton Beach State Park is one of the most beautiful places near Seaside. You can’t come to Seaside and not go here.
The park covers around 2,000 acres of land and includes a mile-long stretch of white sand beach.
Grayton Beach State Park is one of the top beaches near Destin , offering a number of nature trails that are perfect for birdwatching or simply taking a scenic stroll.
There’s also a boat ramp if you want to enjoy freshwater or saltwater fishing. You can also kayak or canoe through the salt marshes.
Seaside Florida Things to Do: What to Know Before You Go
Now that we’ve covered all of the top things to do in Seaside Florida, here are some helpful tips for planning your trip to this little beach oasis.
Best Time to Visit Seaside, Florida
![places to visit in seaside florida A street in Seaside lined with cottages.](https://www.dishadiscovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/street-in-seaside-1024x666.jpeg)
Seaside is beautiful any time of the year! | Photo credit: Kristi Blokhin/Shutterstock
The weather is lovely year-round in Seaside, but the best time to visit is between April and May.
The temperatures are warm but not too hot, and the days are long and sunny.
The spring break crowds and snowbirds have fizzled out by then so you can enjoy the beach without feeling crowded.
If you can’t make it during those months, late September through October is also a great time to visit Seaside.
The weather is still warm and sunny, but the crowds have thinned out as summer comes to an end.
No matter when you decide to visit, you’ll enjoy the beautiful weather in this beachfront town.
Where to Stay in Seaside, Florida
![places to visit in seaside florida White cottages in Seaside where you can stay.](https://www.dishadiscovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/cottages-on-the-beach-1024x666.jpeg)
Cottages in Seaside. | Photo credit: Kristi Blokhin/Shutterstock
There are a number of great places to stay in Seaside, from condos and apartments to beachfront homes.
But, these options can come with a hefty price tag. As such, I recommend staying in Destin or Panama City Beach.
Not only will hotel prices be more reasonable, but you’ll also be within a quick 40-minute drive of Seaside.
Plus, you’ll have access to all the amenities these larger towns offer, such as nightlife and restaurants.
👉 Hotel recommendations for Panama City Beach: SpringHill Suites by Marriott Panama City Beach Beachfront | Hyatt Place Panama City Beach | Homewood Suites by Hilton Panama City Beach
👉 Hotel recommendations for Destin: Hyatt Place Sandestin at Grand Boulevard | The Henderson Beach Resort & Spa | Residence Inn by Marriott Sandestin at Grand Boulevard
Restaurants in Seaside

There are so many cute shacks like this around Seaside that serve food.
You’ll definitely be spoiled for choice when looking for restaurants in Seaside, and one of the best things to do in Seaside Florida is to indulge in the delicious food.
You’ll find something to suit your taste and budget with so many options.
There are plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from whether you’re in the mood for seafood, pizza, or something in between.
Besides Bud and Alley’s and Airstream Row, some of my favorite restaurants in Seaside are Meltdown On 30A, Great Southern Cafe, Scratch Biscuit Kitchen, Blue Mountain Creamery, and Seagrove Village Market.

7 Things To Do In Seaside, Florida, This Summer
![places to visit in seaside florida places to visit in seaside florida](https://www.southernliving.com/thmb/p3cZXXeO4FFX6rW9ix7gxmq6wVQ=/75x75/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/Kaitlyn-Yarborough-2000-b9ba0c5b291d49b08647594678365883.jpg)
The 1998 cult-classic film The Truman Show , features a town so idyllic that it could only exist in a movie. But this place is absolutely real. The location for this film is Seaside, Florida, and the landmarks range from a pristine amphitheater lawn to a charming string of food trucks to the crisp white, Instagrammable Seaside Post Office.
Seaside was created as a "new old town," inspired by classic beach communities across the South. All of the secret bike paths, white picket fences, and blue umbrellas work together to reflect the motto "A simple, beautiful life." There's plenty of cause for celebration in Seaside, especially for those who still remember its beginnings. This picturesque coastal community, which was brand-new a few decades ago, now feels like home. Here's everything you need to hit on your next trip to Florida's Emerald Coast.
Grab Breakfast At Modica Market
Modica Market , the one and only grocery ever opened in the town circle, continues serving customers, dawn to dusk, after 30 years in business. Here, freshly squeezed lemonade makes the summer weather feel just a little bit cooler. The house-made, meringue-topped banana pudding is the stuff of legend, and the founding family are still minding the store.
Baseball-capped deli workers start taking orders at 7 a.m., peering over fresh chicken biscuits and chocolate croissants. In the small market, second-generation owner Charlie Modica stocks wooden shelves, while his sister, Carmel Modica, works one of two registers up front.
Undoubtedly, this is exactly what it looked like here yesterday, the day before, and the year before that. For locals and visitors alike, there's a comfort in knowing that, no matter how many years go by, some things at Seaside never change.
Head To Sundog Books To Find Your Next Beach Read
It's not just Modica Market that seems to be immune to all the hustle and bustle of the high season. Next door to the post office, a two-story blue building remains home to the town bookstore and record shop.
Step inside Sundog Books , and you'll be hit with the heavenly smell of the stacks. Just find anybody on the Sundog staff to ask where a certain read is. They'll hunt it down, pulling it from a shelf in some obscure corner.
"When you come in here, you're thinking about when you were young and you'd go on a family beach trip," says co-owner Linda White. "It was simpler. We're just trying to put a good book in everybody's hands to enjoy while they're here."
A creaky staircase in the back leads customers to Central Square Records . The selection of old-school vinyl here celebrates rock 'n' roll, jazz, country, R & B, and every genre in between.
Book A lesson At Austin McGee's Surf School
Prepare to make your kids' day or cross off a bucket list item for yourself. Walk onto Seaside's beach via its public access—through its iconic obelisk—and you'll see Austin McGee either teaching a surf lesson or tending to his surfboards at the ready. Reserve a private lesson or a group lesson, and all you need to bring is yourself. You'll be shredding those waves in no time! Book your lesson here.
Find A Table Upstairs At Bud & Alley's For A Sunset View
Bud & Alley's is an iconic eatery along Highway 30A. Founded by a couple of 24-year-old surfing buddies (and named for a cat and dog in a town that only boasted twelve houses at the time), it was the first restaurant and watering hole to open in Seaside. It's still serving up its famous crab cakes today. Take in the sunset from the rooftop bar, and you'll never want to go back to real life.
Looking for something more casual? Try one of its sister restaurants, Taco Bar and Pizza Bar, just steps away. Bathing suits are welcome. Great Southern Café , a little farther up from the beach, makes a mean breakfast for those desiring dishes like its fried green tomato Benedict or chicken and waffles.
Keep in mind that no trip to Seaside is complete without hitting Airstream Row . This food truck haven will have you tasting barbecue, grilled cheeses, hot dogs, smoothie bowls, and shaved ice. Lining the main road, you can't miss it.
Take An Afternoon Stroll To The Seaside Chapel
Keep walking north, straight up and away from Central Square, and you'll land on Ruskin Place, a quiet little park filled with art galleries, boutiques , and private residences. With benches cozied up under shady oak trees and a wooded patch called the Fairy Forest, you'll have found your calm in the storm. Keep walking, and you'll hit the stunning Seaside Chapel. Sunday services are held at The Chapel at Seaside each week for locals and vacationers, and you'll often catch a wedding spilling out at dusk.
Cool Off With A Frozen Treat
We have a feeling you'll hit all of these spots before leaving. But act fast! In the dead of summer, the lines at It's Heavenly Shortcakes and Ice Cream , Dawson's Yogurt and Fudge Works , and Frost Bites aren't made for the faint of heart. Every scoop is worth it.
Frost Bites features too many shaved ice flavorings to choose from, so best check out the list before making it up to the airstream's window. We recommend going wild with its "Piggly Wiggly," which has frozen custard on the bottom and cream on top, sandwiching the flavor of your choosing.
Shop The Seaside Farmers Market On Saturdays In The Amphitheater
From 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday, find something tasty to take home at the Seaside Farmers Market. Besides housing some of the most beautiful fresh vegetables to bring home for dinner, you'll find local honey, jams, pastries, nut butters, dog treats, and a vendor punching holes in coconuts to drink (that's how you know you've made it to paradise). With live music and enough cute dog sightings to last a lifetime, it's worth the break from your beach chair. And, while you're at it, check the Amphitheater schedule for movie nights, concerts, and plays. There's always something fun on the horizon.

Your Complete Guide to 30A Hotels
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
Nestled along the stunning coastline of the Florida Panhandle lies the famous stretch of highway known as 30A. Renowned for its pristine white sandy beaches, emerald waters, and charming beach towns, 30A is a top travel destination. While searching for 30A hotels and vacation rentals can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors, it doesn’t need to be!
![places to visit in seaside florida 30A Hotel Guide](https://ourlittlelifestyle.com/storage/2023/10/30A-Hotel-Guide-1.jpg)
Hi, I’m Sarah! I am a 30A expert. Not only do we own several vacation rentals on 30A , but we spend a whole lot of time there. We specifically love the east end of 30A, including Seacrest Beach and Rosemary Beach! I can answer any question you have about 30A and have a series of blog posts covering everything from golf carts on 30A to day trips around the area. I even share the best time to visit 30A .
Click here to view my 30A blog posts !
In this blog post, we’ll explore the hotels along 30A. And it will be short and sweet because there aren’t many! The most popular choice for accommodations along 30A is vacation rentals . But, there are times when a hotel is a better option, such as a single-night stay, or when guests prefer amenities such as daily housekeeping and spa or concierge services.
Overview of 30A (Walton County, Florida)
Before we dive into the 30A hotels, I want to share a bit about 30A. My What is 30A? blog post has an excellent overview, but I want to quickly touch on what the area is like and the layout. In a nutshell, 30A is a roughly 20-mile-long scenic highway in Northwest Florida between Panama City Beach and Destin .
What is 30A Like?
The communities along 30A, such as Seaside, Rosemary Beach, and Grayton Beach, exude a laid-back, coastal charm. Each town has its unique character, with boutique shops, delicious dining options, and vibrant art scenes. There is no wrong place to stay, but they are quite different from one another.
![places to visit in seaside florida 30A beaches](https://ourlittlelifestyle.com/storage/2023/09/DSC_0617-WEB-jpg.webp)
Unlike some more bustling Florida travel destinations , 30A maintains a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful escape. There is only one highrise, and it’s free of the typical tourist attractions such as go-carts and mini golf. The hot summer days revolve around the beach, biking, eating, and napping! And the off-season brings out the locals and a variety of seasonal festivals.
Speaking of beaches, the Gulf of Mexico’s crystal-clear waters, soft white sand, and rare coastal dune lakes make 30A incredibly unique. There is nowhere else quite like it! This is why people come back year after year with their families. So, where do they stay when they visit?
30A Accommodations
30A visitors primarily in vacation rentals! There are so many options on Airbnb and VBRO ranging from 300 sq feet studio condos to beachfront multifamily mansions. So, if you are striking out with hotels, you should direct your search there.
But, for the times when a hotel makes more sense, here are the options for hotels on 30A. Now, there are many hotel options in neighboring Panama City Beach, Miramar Beach, Sandestin, and Destin . But, this post is focused explicitly on hotels along 30A itself.
![places to visit in seaside florida 30A Condo Rentals Seacrest Beach Florida](https://ourlittlelifestyle.com/storage/2023/09/Seacrest-Beach-Condo-02-1-jpg.webp)
List of 30A Hotels as of October 2023
I specifically added the date above because the number of hotels has doubled from 3 to 6 since 2021, with two of them just opening this summer. So, this is the most up-to-date information!
Also, to avoid confusion, please note that the whole area is in South Walton County and is split between two zip codes: Santa Rosa Beach and Inlet Beach . While each community has its own “name,” these actual towns all have one of those two zip codes; you will often see either of those used in the mailing addresses. However, I am going to use their town or community name here!
![places to visit in seaside florida The Pearl Rosemary Beach](https://ourlittlelifestyle.com/storage/2023/10/DSC_9650-WEB.jpg)
1. The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach, Florida
Located in the heart of Rosemary Beach, The Pearl is a luxurious boutique hotel that offers waterview rooms, a top-notch spa, a rooftop lounge, and an adults-only pool. It’s the perfect choice for a romantic getaway or a special occasion. It is the most iconic of the 30A Florida hotels!
Staying at The Pearl is a real treat! You are right at the center of this charming town with access to fantastic restaurants. I have never gotten to stay there, as our rentals are just two blocks away, but I have heard amazing things! Staying at the Pearl does get you access to the private Rosemary Beach access points .
2. WaterColor Inn in Watercolor, Florida
Nestled along the coast within the vibrant WaterColor community, the WaterColor Inn offers upscale accommodations, easy beach access, and a variety of pools and amenities. The popular 30A hotel has its suites recently updated with the family in mind, and those upgrades have solidified its place as the top family-friendly hotel on 30A.
In addition to the 1 and 2-bedroom family suites, they do have regular rooms. All get great reviews! And this is as close to a full-service resort-type experience as you will find on 30A. Plus, you are just a short walk from Seaside, giving you the walkability in addition to the resort vibes.
Please note that regular rooms at The WaterColor Inn are continuing to be renovated into Spring 2024.
![places to visit in seaside florida Banner for a 30A related post about the public and private beaches on 30A](https://ourlittlelifestyle.com/storage/2023/08/30A-Public-and-Private-Beaches-jpg.webp)
3. The Court in Seaside, Florida
Located directly at the center of 30A in the iconic community of Seaside, The Court has recently been brought to life after an incredible 18-month renovation. This upscale hotel is a throwback to simpler times and offers 8 rooms, each with one bed and 1-1.5 bathrooms. It is the smallest of the 30A hotels and more motor court style, hence the name.
The Court is just steps from the beach and the Seaside town center, with the private Coleman Pavilion Beach access and the adjacent Seaside amphitheater. This is perfect for a romantic yet low-key getaway where you are still at the center of the action!
4. Hibiscus Coffee and Guest House in Grayton Beach, Florida
A true bed and breakfast, the Hibiscus Guest House is as cool and quirky as Grayton Beach itself. Family-owned and operated for almost 30 years, this charming compound is home to 13 different room accommodations, with 3 having full kitchens and laundry facilities. The rooms sleep between 2 and 4 guests and are true bed and breakfast style both in decor and ambiance.
Hibiscus also offers homemade breakfast that takes you back to a simple time. Southern hospitality and cooking prevail, and their café offers indoor and outdoor seating options.
5. The Lodge 30A in Seagrove Beach, Florida
This new 30A Florida hotel will be the most budget-friendly option and most in line with a traditional mid-service hotel. At The Lodge 30A , there are a variety of rooms with either 1 King Bed & 1 Full-size Sofa Sleeper or 2 Double Queen Beds. A handful of suites also offer 1 King Bed & 1 Full-size Sofa Sleeper.
A new shopping center called Greenway Station is adjacent to the hotel with shopping and restaurants. The downside is that it’s not in a town center-style area and does not have easy beach access. But it’s great for a single night or two. I often have guests who find better flights a day before their arrival or want to stay an extra day, and I usually send them to The Lodge 30A .
You can add on Watersound Beach Club + Golf access for $125 per day + taxes and fees. You have to do it for the entire stay, not day by day. The club is nice, though! It may be worth it for some. I am not 100% sure if they offer any transportation there or if guests are on their own. If you aren’t familiar with the 30A private vs. public beaches, read this post !
6. Camp Creek Inn in Watersound, Florida
This is the new kid on the block, and I want to stay here! And while it isn’t exactly near the beach, it offers something that 30A has lacked, which is a resort-style golf experience. The amazing pool doesn’t hurt, either!
With 75 hotel guest rooms and suites, the Camp Creek Inn comes with the Watersound Club experience. This is the same club mentioned above as an add-on at The Lodge 30A. However, it includes access to the wellness center, tennis and pickleball courts, an amazing pool complex including slides and a lazy river, and three private dining venues. You can enjoy the top-rated Camp Creek Golf Course and access the private Watersound Beach Club. The beach club is not walkable, but there is a shuttle.
In my opinion, the Camp Creek Inn property itself offers a lot to enjoy and has piqued my interest! That said, it’s different than the tried and true 30A experience many come for, especially those who want walkability and charming town centers.

When Should You Choose a 30A Hotel?
While 30A is renowned for its vacation rental properties, hotels can be an excellent choice, especially for shorter stays, couples, or specific desires and needs. If you have more than 4 people, you will probably be better off with a vacation rental of some sort.
However, here are some instances where 30a hotels make the most sense!
Short Stays : If you’re planning a one or two-night getaway or need somewhere to stay when travel plans change, hotels are convenient and often more cost-effective than vacation rentals as you can avoid the cleaning fee.
Amenities and Services : Hotels typically offer daily housekeeping, on-site dining, and concierge services, providing a hassle-free experience.
Special Occasions : There are times when you want to splurge! Or you may need a true pampering escape and value access to high-end spas.
Trying Something New: I am a lover of hotels! If you are like me, maybe you simply want to try somewhere new, and one of these 30A hotels is calling your name.
In general, the nicer 30A hotels closest to the beach will be very expensive versus a vacation rental. The Lodge 30A is probably in line with the low to mid prices but lacks some of the things I love about 30A. The bed and breakfast in Grayton Beach and the new Camp Creek Inn both are unique and very different than other 30A accommodations.

Can you give me a couple of best condos to rent for 3 ladies
It’s all going to depend on your dates and what you are looking for. If you are looking for 3 separate beds, I would just run an Airbnb or VRBO search and look for properties that are a good fit! Some areas are more walkable than others, so if that is a priority I would look on the East end (Rosemary Beach, Seacrest Beach) or in the Seaside, Watercolor, western Seagrove area.

![places to visit in seaside florida Navarre Beach along Florida's Gulf Coast](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/b6/81/00/shutterstock-2391115533.jpg)
For a cozy coastal town with plenty of sand to go around, Navarre is home to “Florida’s most relaxing place”: Navarre Beach. The Pensacola News Journal put it best, saying, “Navarre ‘busy’ isn’t the same as Pensacola Beach ‘busy.’” This Santa Rosa County beach town is truly the cozier alternative to the busier Pensacola, offering visitors a more laid-back experience with the same beautiful seashore.
With thinner crowds and laid-back vibes, this is why Family Destinations Guide listed Navarre Beacasng as one of America's favorite secret beaches. Guests can lounge, snorkel to the offshore artificial reefs, and enjoy Florida’s longest fishing pier, the 1,500-foot Navarre Beach Pier. If you are down to venture a bit from town, the nearby Gulf Breeze Zoo is also tons of fun for the whole family. On August 3, 2024, the serene town of Gulf Breeze is also set to host a screening of Jaws 2, which was actually filmed at Navarre Beach.
![places to visit in seaside florida Bluewater Bay Marina, Niceville Florida](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/3f/02/db/shutterstock-1614558616.jpg)
In addition to being ranked one of the best places to live in Florida, the Northwest Florida Daily News describes Niceville as "a very pleasant place to be" in general. Once called “Boggy” due to its location on the Boggy Bayou, locals will tell you the town’s new name is all the more fitting. Kindness and hospitality are some of the town’s greatest charms, along with some of the prettiest nature in the state.
The Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park shines as a top attraction, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and boating in the Rocky Bayou and a spacious arm of the Choctawhatchee Bay. Elsewhere in town, the Turkey Creek Nature Trail is Niceville’s secondary nature highlight, with scenic swimming areas and a boardwalk for wildlife spotting.
Beyond being a nature haven, families with young kids will appreciate town attractions like the Niceville Children's Park and the Honeybee Ice Cream & Arcade. For adults, Niceville’s Eglin Golf Course and Mattie Kelly Arts Center offer the perfect way to relax and enjoy a more slow-paced activity.
![places to visit in seaside florida Waterfront buildings on stilts in Cedar Key, Florida.](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/37/e1/73/shutterstock-1650572884.jpg)
The island town of Cedar Key is another charming place to visit for those looking to get out into nature more this 2024. To reach the 13 gorgeous islands in the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, visitors can book tours with Cedar Key Boat Rentals or even set out on a fishing expedition with companies like Southern Salt Charters. As the name implies, wildlife viewing is a thing of true beauty in the refuge, from sky to sea. The island offers sightings of everything from eagles and seabirds to dolphins.
Back in Cedar Key, visitors can experience the cozy offerings of Old Florida. A stroll through town will open you to views of the historic architecture like the Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast. This bright teal Victorian manor was built in 1880 and makes for the perfect photo-op and an even better place to rest your head. History extends to attractions like the Cedar Key Museum State Park and the Cedar Key Historical Society Museum. But if you find yourself wanting more of the outdoors, Cedar Key’s Fishing Pier and the Cedar Key Public Beach are equally enticing as well as a great alternative for those who want to stay on the island.
![places to visit in seaside florida The charming town of Seaside, Florida](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/22/1c/57/worldatlas-shutterstock-1242174805.jpg)
If the brightly-painted Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast intrigues you, then the vibrant homes of Seaside will take your breath away . Once a backdrop for the hit film “The Truman Show,” Seaside’s pastel buildings and cottages are a town signature. The color scheme not only photographs beautifully but also creates a cohesive coziness that draws thousands of families to the beach town every year.
Keep in mind that access to Seaside’s beachfront requires visitors to either have a vacation rental or book a spot through Cabana Man at the Coleman Pavilion. While this may feel like a hassle for some, other beachgoers find that the gorgeous ocean views and sugar-sand shores make it well worth the effort. The reservation process also makes for a more intimate and comfortable beach vibe, favored by those craving a less crowded shore.
But have no fear, spontaneous vacationers: Seaside also offers plenty of other activities for those who prefer to stop by without a reservation. Visitors can grab food at Airstream Row, a collection of vintage Airstream trailers serving food truck-style bites. In 2024, the crowd-pleaser Frost Bites Hawaiian shaved ice trailer relaunched, and there are tons of other incredible treats to sample. The Seaside Amphitheater, for example, is another standout feature of the town. It hosts a variety of live performances throughout the year, like the Sounds of Seaside Concert Series happening on July 3, 2024.
Rosemary Beach
![places to visit in seaside florida Rosemary Beach, Florida](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/85/84/49/shutterstock-2028277466.jpg)
Less than 30 minutes from Seaside, the vibrant town of Rosemary Beach has a similar relaxing atmosphere. Guests renting a place in town like the Worry Be Gone Cottage, or Beach Haven Cottage can savor romantic ocean views and private beach access. And while Rosemary Beach unfortunately lacks public shores, a brief five-minute drive will bring you to Camp Helen State Park. With a pristine beach and access to Lake Powell (Florida’s largest coastal dune lake), Rosemary Beach is your gateway to some of the best sights and experiences on the Emerald Coast.
Beyond its breathtaking coastline, Rosemary Beach is renowned for its charming town center. Visitors could, by all means, devote an entire day to the center, with leisurely strolls along cobblestone streets, cozy coffee dates, and upscale window shopping. Cafes like Amavida Coffee & Tea are the perfect place to grab a drink in the morning, while nighttime fares better at places like Gallion’s Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge. For dinner with a view, Havana Beach Bar & Grill has a fabulous rooftop dining option, or you could grab a light snack at Playa Bowls to explore more of the center’s shops and attractions, like the Curate art gallery. With adorable businesses at every turn, Rosemary Beach is truly so much more than its shores.
DeFuniak Springs
![places to visit in seaside florida The beautiful Lake DeFuniak in DeFuniak Springs, Florida](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/d5/61/24/shutterstock-1161171544.jpg)
If you are someone who prefers the comforts and charms of a more casual destination, the underrated town of DeFuniak Springs is the perfect place for a cozy lake day with the family. One of only two perfectly round spring-fed lakes in the world, Lake DeFuniak is the town’s unique anchor. Best accessed from Chipley Park, boating, fishing, and swimming are just a few of the family-friendly activities you will encounter at Lake DeFuniak. Visitors can rent a boat with nearby services like Gator Road Rentals or enjoy the lake’s beauty from one of the several piers.
From June 21 to 22nd, 2024, DeFuniak Springs will also host its annual LakeFest, a celebration of the rare lake and all it has to offer. Featuring paddleboarding, Cardboard Boat Races, live entertainment, and waterslides, the festival is one to mark your calendars for. Shortly after, June 28, the town will also have its Food Truck Throwdown, where you can sample a variety of delicious bites and vote for your favorite. But even if you miss these exciting events, Lake DeFuniak will still be waiting with the promise of endless fun.
Apalachicola
![places to visit in seaside florida Aerial view of Apalachicola, Florida.](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w768/upload/22/fa/73/shutterstock-1295109433.jpg)
Apalachicola , one of Florida’s most historic towns, is a charming port community that offers a delightful escape for those seeking simple pleasures. Settled where the Apalachicola River merges with Apalachicola Bay, it is no surprise that maritime culture and outdoor recreation are 2 thriving features of Apalachicola. Renowned as Florida’s largest producer of oysters, the town proudly lives up to its “Oystertown” moniker, boasting some of the finest seafood restaurants in the state.
For those eager to savor the famous shellfish, Up The Creek Raw Bar is the perfect spot to start, while establishments like Owl Café offer an array of other delectable American seafood classics. Once you have indulged in the local culinary scene, a hike along the Scipio Creek Boardwalk and Overlook is a great follow-up, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the area’s stunning scenes. This quarter-mile nature trail culminates in an overlook above the Apalachicola River, providing a perfect post-dinner view.
While Florida’s theme parks and busy shores offer their own exciting features, there is something refreshing about a slow-paced beach or a friendly lake town. The Emerald Coast does have its fair share of bustling shores and spirited resorts, but for those craving rejuvenation and relaxation, the towns on this list will have you forgetting the stresses of everyday life in no time. Whether enjoying Navarre’s relaxing seashore or slowing down with a day of dining and hiking in Apalachicola, these cozy Emerald Coast towns promise sunshine, bliss, and memories to last a lifetime.

This 8-mile Barrier Island in Florida Has Some of the Best Beaches in the State — Plus Frequent Dolphin Sightings
Siesta Key is home to beaches with sand made of ground quartz that never feels hot no matter the temperature.
Visit Sarasota
With eight miles of quartz-laden, sugar-soft sand, frequent dolphin sightings, and calm Gulf waters, Siesta Key, just off the southwestern coast of Florida, has all the ingredients for a relaxing beach vacation. But there's lots of adventure around the bucolic island, too, from deep-sea fishing and snorkeling to paddling and fishing. And that's to say nothing of the fact that it's just 10 minutes from the museums, restaurants, botanical gardens, and attractions in Sarasota, one of the best places to retire in the U.S.
Once called Little Sarasota Island, Clam Island, and Sarasota Key, Siesta Key was renamed in 1907, just a year after the first hotel opened on the island. Kelly Defebo, vice president of marketing and communications at Visit Sarasota County, grew up along the Gulf Coast and cites Siesta Key as her go-to spot whenever she needs to recharge and reconnect. “Siesta Key has the ultimate laid-back beach vibe. Sunsets anywhere are gorgeous, but they are not to be missed here. Locals bring their drums and people dance and celebrate as the sun goes down. I feel like I'm on vacation without being far from home,” she says.
We also tapped Kristen Green Seymour, a writer who lives just a few miles from Siesta Beach in Sarasota, to find out what’s so special about Siesta Key. She says, “You can walk from end to end on miles of white sand so fine, it feels like sugar, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you're likely to spot dolphins just a bit offshore. The sky explodes in pinks, purples, oranges, and reds in the 30 minutes following the official sunset. And while Siesta Key Village is busy and has lots to offer, it also still feels relatively small and local compared to many other beach towns.”
Top 5 Can’t Miss
- Join the Siesta Key Drum Circle to mingle with artists, dancers, and hula hoopers celebrating the sunset over Siesta Beach.
- Snorkel Point of Rocks to see nurse sharks, dolphins, and a variety of other marine life.
- After a day on the sand, hit Old Salty Dog for tempura-battered hot dogs and frozen daiquiris under a palapa.
- Stay at Tropical Breeze Resort for pet-friendly accommodations right on the beach and adjacent to Siesta Key Village, which has lots of shopping and dining options.
- Stop by Captain Curt’s to sing your heart out at the longest-running karaoke bar on Siesta Key, established in 1979.
Best Hotels and Resorts
Visit Florida
Vacation Rentals
According to both of our local experts, vacation rentals represent the bulk of good accommodations on Siesta Key. Defebo likes Prime Vacations for multigenerational family get-togethers, group celebrations, and reunions. Units range from two to eight bedrooms with fully equipped kitchens. “[The company] has spectacular three-story homes with a rooftop deck, a pool, and all the amenities. If you didn't want to leave the house, you wouldn't have to,” Defebo says.
In addition to several homes, Prime Vacations also represents the hotel where both Defebo and Seymour send out-of-town guests, Tropical Breeze Resort . Seymour stayed here on vacations before becoming a permanent resident, noting that “it allows pets, is right by the beach, and has a tremendous variety of room options.” Defebo also loves the different accommodation styles: “It has everything from efficiencies to three-bedroom suites adjacent to Siesta Key Village. You can pick where you want to go and what suits you. You get the benefit of staying within a resort, but because of the way it's set up, you get to feel like you're living like a local, too,” she shares. Amenities at the resort include two pools, a spa, grilling areas, and family games and event programming. The property also partners with several local companies to facilitate kayak tours, boat rentals, and more.
Best Things to Do
Snorkel point of rocks..
Located on the southern end of Crescent Beach, the warm, shallow, and crystal-clear waters surrounding Siesta Key's Point of Rocks provide the perfect environment for snorkeling. Both casual and seasoned snorkelers can observe snook, snapper, sheepshead, nurse sharks, red sponges, and more marine life. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a pod of dolphins frolicking or a manatee meandering while exploring the pristine environment.
Spend the day on the beach.
Defebo and Seymour agree the beach is the main attraction on Siesta Key, and Siesta Beach is one of the best in Florida , with an array of shells, calm waters, and soft sand. Turtle Beach and Crescent Beach are two other solid options, both with sand made of 99 percent ground quartz that never gets hot on your feet no matter the temperature. Defebo appreciates the accessibility of the beach, too, noting the Mobi-mat® ADA pathway that runs straight out to the water’s edge on top of the sand at Siesta Beach’s West Concession area.
Go fishing.
The Gulf of Mexico is known for its abundant fish, and on Siesta Key, Defebo loves CB’s Saltwater Outfitters for boat rentals and charter fishing expeditions where you can catch giant tarpon, bonito, cobia, tripletail, jack crevalle, kingfish, Spanish mackerel, and more. She says, “The crew is knowledgeable, and they have a great shop where you can get any supplies you need to fish off the beach if you don't want to go out on a boat.” They also offer sunset cruises, parasailing, and golf cart rentals.
Kayak or enjoy stand-up paddleboarding at Turtle Beach.
Seymour considers kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding out on Turtle Beach, on the south end of Siesta Key, an absolute must. She says, “Depending on the time of year, you might encounter manatees, dolphins, ospreys, rays, and more. When you rent your vessel, ask for directions to Midnight Pass, which is only accessible by water. When you beach your board and walk over the dunes to see the Gulf stretching out before you, you won't be worried about the paddle home because you'll just want to have your mail forwarded. Bring yourself a snack and a drink and stay a while. It's magic.” Turtle Beach also has a campground for those wanting to spend the night on the sand. Siesta Sports Rentals offers kayak tours, as well as delivers and picks up rentals at Turtle Beach.
Join the Siesta Key Drum Circle.
When Defebo and Seymour have out-of-town guests, the Siesta Key Drum Circle is a must-do. Every Sunday evening, artists, dancers, locals, and tourists gather on Siesta Beach an hour before sunset. Seymour advises, “Parking is at a premium, especially during high season (loosely, Christmas to Easter), so consider taking bikes or the trolley down. Whether you just watch or get in the center with a hula hoop is up to you.”
Best Shopping
Siesta key village.
According to Defebo, Siesta Key Village is the main shopping hub on the island. “It's a fantastic place to wander around for souvenirs. [Expect] high-end boutiques, beach shops, jewelry stores, and more,” she says. There's an apothecary, a sandal shop, consignment stores, spots to get T-shirts and swimsuits ... practical stops like a drug store and a post office, restaurants, bars, and live music, all within a mile of the Siesta Beach. Every Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Siesta Key Farmers Market pops up in Siesta Key Village. Shoppers will find fresh produce, original oil paintings, clothing, and handmade crafts.
South Village
If you're staying at the other end of the island, South Village has everything from beachwear and gifts to groceries and convenience store items. Located at the corner of Stickney Point and Midnight Pass roads in the Crescent Beach area, South Village is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, a post office, and plenty of fishing gear.
Best Nightlife

The Beach Club
If you’re hankering for some live music, a DJ, and a large dance floor, Seymour recommends The Beach Club , where the nightlife thrums Monday through Sunday from noon until 2 a.m. Check out the daily happy hour, which runs from opening time until 7 p.m., while enjoying two bars and a drink cart with stunning beach views.
Daiquiri Deck
Tucked into Siesta Key Village, the Daiquiri Deck was established in '90s by a young lifeguard born and raised on Siesta Key. A line of daiquiri machines, bright orange and green decor, and open-air seating set the scene here. In addition to the extensive daiquiri list, the location has a menu filled with seafood options like the piña colada-glazed mahi sandwich and gator bites with orange habanero remoulade. It's open every day from 10 a.m. until midnight. Defebo says to order The Best One — the bartender’s choice option — for a delicious surprise.
Captain Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar
Captain Curt’s is the longest-running karaoke bar on Siesta Key, established in 1979. Defebo loves this spot for late-night Saturday karaoke soirees with friends. The venue also has live music every afternoon and evening, and unlike other options, it's located outside of Siesta Key Village.
Siesta Key Oyster Bar
Siesta Key Oyster Bar , or SKOB as the locals call it, is an institution dedicated to a love of the Chicago Bears. It stays open Sunday through Thursday until 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until midnight. The patio remains packed and the legendary oyster happy hour runs from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. daily. The real draw, though, is the scene at night. “It’s a great place to hear live music, and every inch of the walls is covered with dollar bills,” Defebo says.
Best Restaurants
LauraSabatino/Getty Images
Summer House
For a splurge-worthy dinner, Seymour beelines to Summer House . Open seven days a week from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., the upscale restaurant serves hand-cut steaks seasoned and grilled to perfection, along with fresh seafood. The 1,000-gallon fish tank in the dining room is an attraction unto itself — it took 1,100 hours to build and was designed exclusively for the restaurant.
The Cottage
Located next door to the Summer House, The Cottage is another favorite for Seymour. “I recommend getting a spot out back on a weekend evening to catch some live music in an intimate, plant-filled setting,” she says. It's open seven days a week for lunch and dinner in the heart of Siesta Key Village.
Sun Garden Cafe
According to Seymour, Sun Garden Cafe has the best breakfast in town. She loves the charming, mostly shaded outdoor patio, large portions that often turn into delicious leftovers, and refreshing mimosas. She adds, “The hardest part about coming here is deciding whether to go with a sweet pancake, a baked good, or a savory egg dish.” Breakfast is served all day and you can bring your dog to this pet-friendly hot spot.
Cafe Gabbiano
Defebo touts Cafe Gabbiano as one of the best places for homey Italian food in the area. She says, “They make their pasta by hand. I love the cheese ravioli, but they also have truffle, osso buco, and lobster ravioli, and you can't go wrong with any of them.” The 4,000-square-foot restaurant is open daily from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and offers private dining, as well as outdoor seating on the climate-controlled patio.
Old Salty Dog
After a day at the beach, hit Old Salty Dog , a pet-friendly, British pub-inspired spot that has been going strong since 1985. Order a frozen cocktail and a Salty Dog — a tempura-battered, foot-long hot dog with fries. The latter is topped with sauerkraut, bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms, and American, cheddar, pepper jack, and Swiss cheeses. It's open seven days a week from 11 p.m. until 9 p.m., with plenty of outdoor seating under the palapa.
Best Time To Visit
Locals know the fall and winter tend to be the best times to visit Siesta Key for temperate weather, smaller crowds, and lower humidity. Defebo agrees, adding that November is her favorite time to have guests. “The Siesta Key Crystal Classic is a sand-sculpting competition held annually in November. It has a theme every year and sand sculptors from around the world travel here to build amazing castles and sculptures from our gorgeous quartz sand,” she says.
Keep in mind hurricane season runs from June through November, with most storms occurring in August and September, when the waters are warm. This also means you may be able to get a good deal on flights or accommodations during this window.

How to Get There
Just over the bridge, a speedy 10 miles from Siesta Key, sits Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. With more than 55 nonstop destinations on all major U.S. air carriers, it's easy to get to Sarasota. Tampa International Airport is also just an hour away from Siesta Key, providing even more options for economical flights. Both airports have Uber and Lyft services or the option of hiring a private shuttle to get to Siesta Key, but Defabo says renting a car is a good choice so you can explore beyond Siesta Key.
For those within driving distance, access could not be easier; Interstate 75 has two exits for Siesta Key — 205 and 207 — that take you in a straight line down to the island.
Areas to Visit
A hub on Florida’s Cultural Coast, Sarasota is just a bridge away from Siesta Key and worthy of some exploration. Defabo says, “Once you go over the bridge, you're near the quaint Hillview area with shopping and restaurants. Next to that is Marie Selby Botanical Gardens , which has more than 20,000 exotic plants from around the world. After you get to downtown Sarasota, you can park and hop on the trolley that stops at multiple points on Main Street, including the Ringling Bridge onto St. Armands Circle, an eat, play, live community designed by John Ringling for his wife, Mable.” While there, check out The Ringling , a 66-acre estate that houses museums, gardens, and attractions.
How to Get Around
Once on Siesta Key, getting around from place to place doesn't require a rental car (though if you do elect to get one, parking is free on the island). “It’s only 3.5 square miles. Because of the compact size, it’s pretty easy to get around. Whether you're going to the beach or the store, just hop on a bicycle, scooter, or golf cart,” Defebo says.
Adding to the ease of island transport is the complimentary Siesta Key Breeze trolley . It operates seven days a week, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. And if you want to get off the key and hit some of the attractions on the mainland, Breeze OnDemand offers service from tip to tip of Siesta Key. It operates daily for $2 per person, per trip. The best part? You can request a pickup and drop-off at any Siesta Key address and never have to worry about parking a rental car.
