How to change your Safari Homepage on Mac, iPhone and iPad

While you may not think much about what your Homepage is on Safari , this can be the handiest way to see your favorite site first. Every time you open Safari, you can visit the website you like most right off the bat or when you hit your Home button. Maybe it’s your preferred news source, the weather site you trust most, or your favorite tech site, iDownloadblog.com.

To make sure you get to your favorite website quickly each day, here’s how to change your Safari Homepage on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Change your Safari Homepage

Open Safari on your Mac, and then follow these steps to change your Homepage:

1) Click Safari > Preferences from the top menu bar.

2) Choose the General tab.

3) In the box next to Homepage , enter the URL of the website you want. If you are currently on that site, just click the Set Current Page button. This will change that URL for you.

Set your Homepage for new windows and tabs

By making that change above, each time you click the Home button on your toolbar or History > Home from the menu bar, you’ll land on that page. But you can set it up so that whenever you open a new Safari window or tab, you’ll go directly to that page too.

On iPhone and iPad

Things are currently not as simple on iOS as they are on macOS. There isn’t a setting for Homepage in Safari on iPhone and iPad. But there is a workaround you can use to always open Safari with your favorite page. You’ll do this by creating a shortcut on your Home Screen, and here’s how.

1) Open Safari on iPhone or iPad and go to the site you want to use.

2) Tap the Share button at the bottom.

3) Select Add to Home Screen .

4) Name your shortcut and tap Add .

Now, whenever you want to open Safari to that “Homepage,” just tap your shortcut.

Note : If a website you use opens in a reader or mobile mode, you may not see your normal Safari options (tabs, bookmarks, etc.). So, use the desktop version of the site instead. Before performing the steps above, select the Share button > Request Desktop Site . Then, follow the instructions to add it to your Home Screen.

How To Make Google Your Homepage Using Safari on a Mac

If you are a frequent user of Google and of the Safari browser , then it makes sense you would want to combine both for easy access. Making Google your homepage in Safari allows you to skip the extra step of trying to get to Google to use it.

By completing the steps below, each time you launch the Safari browser you will automatically be taken right to Google. There is no need to type the URL from the address bar or access your bookmarks to get there.

Make Google Your Homepage Using Safari on a Mac

Note: You can only perform this function from a desktop or laptop computer. The Safari app on iOS devices does not allow this configuration.

Look for and launch the Safari browser on your computer.

On the top left click on “Safari” and from the dropdown menu select “Preferences” and click on that.

You will see a popup box appear with several different Preference options and tabs. Click on the “General” tab and find the “Homepage” field.

Inside the “Homepage” filed type in https://www.google.com/ . When you are done typing the Google URL in click on the little red dot in the upper left corner of the popup box.

When you click on the red dot a smaller popup box will appear asking for you to confirm your homepage change. Click on the “Change Homepage” button and you are all set.

That’s it. Just exit the window and from now on whenever you launch the Safari browser your homepage will be Google.

• Shared With You: This gives you a list of items shared with you from other people through the Messages app.
• Privacy Report: This shows a report on the number of trackers Safari has blocked recently.
• Siri Suggestions: This displays suggestions from Siri related to what's in your history and bookmarks.
• Reading List: This shows items from your Reading List .
• iCloud Tabs: This shows Safari tabs that are synchronized across iCloud from your other devices.

While also in the "Customize Start Page" window, you can use the "three lines" handle beside each item to tap and drag the Start Page items in the list. This will change the order of how the items will appear on the Start Page.

And if you turn the switch beside "Background Image" into the "on" position, you can select a background picture that will display behind the content on your Start Page. Tap an image in the thumbnails or tap the plus ("+") button to select a custom image from your photo library.

If you want to make your Start Page as minimalist as possible, switch off every item on the "Customize Start Page" list. (Unfortunately, you'll still see the "Edit" button.)

When you're done, click the "X" button to close the Customize Start Page window. The changes you've made take effect immediately. Happy browsing!

How to set Google as your homepage

You might consider Google to be your primary search engine, but your laptop or your smartphone might select a different search engine as your go-to. How to set Google as the homepage in any browser

If your idea of a homepage is more like, “Whatever page that opens when I start Edge,” then here’s the quickest way to set that up.

Step 1: Open an Edge Window and select More Actions (the dots in the upper right of the screen) and then Settings .

Step 2: Within the Settings page, select On Startup from the left-hand side menu. Then select Open a Specific Page or Pages.

Step 3: Once you do that, another sub-menu will pop up underneath that option. In this menu, select Add a New Page and then enter google.com into the dialog box that pops up. Then select Add .

• Google Chrome

Google Chrome should, under normal circumstances, automatically take you to a window with the search bar and several of your favorite websites, so many Chrome users may not even have to worry about this step. But if you want to set a more official home screen or double-check that everything is still working, here’s what to do.

Step 1: Select the More Options icon (three vertical dots) in the top right corner of the screen in your browser window. Then select Settings .

Step 2: Select Appearance . From the Appearance menu, select the toggle button next to the Show Home button option.

Step 3: Enter google.com in the space provided when prompted to type in your chosen homepage’s URL.

Note : This option may not work if you are using Chrome on a tablet or phone, where settings options are a little more limited.

Here’s how to set Google as your homepage in Safari, according to Google’s support site :

Step 1: Open up Safari, select Safari in the upper left corner of the screen, and then select Preferences . From here, select General .

Step 2: Look for the heading that says Homepage with a space next to it. Then type in google.com.

Fortunately, you shouldn’t run into any obstacles with this browser. Firefox has a pretty direct setup feature for establishing a homepage. When you first open the Firefox browser, type in Google. Once you’re on Google’s main search engine site, check out the following steps:

Step 1 : Click/Select the tab itself (the bumper where the title of the page usually is) and hold down. Then drag that tab right, over to the homepage button that Firefox uses in the taskbar – it looks like a little house, and it’s hard to miss.

Step 2 : This will bring up a quick notification asking you if you really want to set this as your homepage. Select Yes, and you’re done.

Step 3 : If you want to delete and replace current homepage options more directly, click the three-line menu button and go to Options. From here, select the Home tab and look for the New Windows And Tabs section and select the Restore Defaults button that will clear any past choices.

Advanced option: Set a series of tabs to open

While using Google as your homepage is convenient, it’s still pretty simple. You may already know your go-to websites and the ones you’d like to navigate to immediately after opening your browser. If that’s the case, you can use a few options to set multiple pages to open whenever you run your preferred browser to help save a bit of time.

Firefox has a straightforward way to set several pages as your homepage , and Mac computers will automatically open websites that you specify every time you log onto your computer. Customize your Safari settings on iPhone

You can customize your start page, change the text size on websites, and change display and privacy settings. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on multiple devices to keep your open tabs, bookmarks, browsing history, and Reading List up to date across all your Apple devices.

Customize your start page

When you open a new tab, you begin on your start page. You can customize your start page with new background images and options.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, then tap Edit.

Choose the options you want to appear on your start page:

Use Start Page on All Devices: Use these settings on all your Apple devices where you have Use Start Page on All Devices turned on and you’re signed in to the same Apple Account using two-factor authentication .
