Your Pre-Order is prioritised (at no additional charge); meaning that as soon as the product arrives with us, we can wrap it straight back up; ready for collection via Click & Collect or despatch to you — it often never even hits the stock room shelves!

With Pre-Launch , the date when we expect to receive the product ourselves is still a little too hazy to be confident in accepting Pre-Orders.

So, instead, you can submit your email address against the item you are interested in and we will email you as soon as stock arrives on the system.

Estimated Delivery & Collection Dates are given on Pre-Order and Pre-Launch products. They are for indication purposes only and can change at any time without notice.

The dates we provide are based on indications given by our suppliers. Whenever we get updated information from our suppliers we will endeavour to update the Estimated Delivery & Collection Dates provided on product pages.

Trek Superfly review

Proven and well-natured performer

justin loretz

2017 trek superfly 5

Trek, or more specifically Gary Fisher, were the first big name to really ‘get’ 29ers. This understanding of the big-wheel phenomenon is clear from their design philosophy. Their bikes look different and ride differently to other 29ers.

  • Highs: The Superfly is easy to ride fast and easy to ride slow
  • Lows: It needs a bigger front tyre
  • Buy if... You want a go-anywhere, do-anything racer with upgrade potential

Trek’s commitment to carbon is one of the longest-standing in the industry. Their Optimum Compaction Low Void (OCLV) monocoques have 20 years of iterative tweaks to offer frames that are stiff, light and blessed with a comfort factor that makes many other bikes feel like church pews.

Gary Fisher’s G2 geometry reduces trail (the distance between a line to the floor through the centreline of the steerer and a line falling vertically to the ground), which Trek use to increase steering stability. Many mountain bikers like this characteristic, as it enhances performance and confidence on steep or loose surfaces. Add in a tapered head tube for a stiffer front end and a wide, strong, press-fit BB90 bottom bracket, and the Superfly frame is ready for your power.

The Shimano transmission and brakes mix eye-catching XT rear and SLX front derailleurs, a non-series triple chainset, SLX brakes and that solid workhorse, a RockShox Reba fork. The rest of the bike is a trip through the Bontrager catalogue, with everything from grips to tyres from the Trek component arm. No one liked the overuse of blue anodising, which cheapens an otherwise tidy bike. We’d like a slightly more aggressive front tyre too.

All of our testers commented upon the Superfly's easy-riding nature. It goes exactly where it’s pointed, exploiting whatever grip the fast-rolling 2.2in Bontrager 29-1 tyres can find. The Trek gets you doing the basics right – climbing in the saddle without having to over reach, carving turns, railing around uphill switchbacks and letting you take liberties on line choice. Not having to jig about in the saddle to bring both wheels into play is refreshing.

This bike has a proven track record for performance, with the same frame being ridden to numerous World Cup podium spots. That the Trek was also popular with less experienced riders speaks volumes – it has a true pedigree not just as a speed machine, but for riding on dirt. There are more glamorous bikes, but few that ride as well as the Superfly.

2017 Trek Superfly 5 or 2018 Trek X-Caliber 9 need some advice

  • Add to quote

I am new here but not to riding, so to speak. I have had a 10 year hiatus and want get to back cross country riding and need to get a new bike. I have decided to start back with a decent hardtail and Trek is the brand I have been loyal to. I had my mind set on the Superfly, but I was informed that the new X-Caliber has a 31.6 seat post and has the option of a dropper seatpost with internal routing. While the Superfly has a 27.2 post (that is harder to find) and no internal routing. I did ride a bike with a dropper and I think I will like it, but I really don't know yet. The Superfly has a better frame, while the X-Caliber has the better components. I have zero plans on racing. They both will end up costing about the same with the dropper post installed. So what would you do? So here are the choices that I have available to me now. A 2017 Superfly 5 https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/b...lorCode=orange or a 2018 X-Caliber 9 https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/b...olorCode=black

2017 trek superfly 5

I'd buy this https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/...procaliber-6/p/2058600-2018/?colorCode=orange The X-cal is a get into the hobby type of bike. The Superfly is a XC race HT that will at one point not be made anymore. Most are thinking 2018, so the 2017 may be the last year due to the Procaliber. The Procal has a 31.6 seat tube. so you can run a dropper if needed. at that point, maybe look at the Stache? Comes with a dropper, the 2018's are updated geo ( for the Alum models) and upgraded components on all models. You can run a stache in 29+, 29 and 27.5+ but. If i had to pick between those two you listed, I'd get the Superfly and run a KS dropper if you really want a dropper . KS does make a 27.2 dropper

Thanks for the input. I did not want to get the last Fly and the X-Caliber has rack and kickstand mounts on the frame. So both decisions worried me a little. I am really interested in the Stache, but my LBS told me it will be late October before they are available and I don't want to wait that long. It looks like I have another bike to look at. They have a new bike called the Roscoe, but it is a 27.5 large tire coming out sooner. Thanks again for your suggestions.

I pulled the trigger on the Procaliber 6 today. It was just ordered today. With the added cost I could not afford the Dropper post with the purchase, but I will get it soon. Thanks for your help.

2017 trek superfly 5

Sorry to bring up an old thread but what do you think of the Procaliber, can you tell the Isospeed is there? I was in a similar situation 2 months ago when crossing over from road to MTB. I did a test ride on the Stache 5, Roscoe 7, and they had a Superfly 6 closeout left. I ended up with the Superfly due to the components and frame but am now figuring out the lack of dropper post options, which didn't seem like something I would need initially. Other than that I have thoroughly enjoyed the bike, haven't even been on my road bike since picking this one up.

Main Post Office (Glavpochtamt)

One of the few historical administrative buildings in St. Petersburg to retain its original function (more or less) to this day, the Main Post Office was built 1782-1789 on the orders of Prince Alexander Bezborodko, chancellor, favourite of Catherine the Great, and head of the postal service, whose own palace had just been completed next door.

The architect, Nikolay Lvov, was also a talented poet, musician and inventor. Although most of his main architectural work was done outside St. Petersburg, his designs for the Main Post Office and reconstruction of the Yaguzhinsky House opposite (now the Museum of the History of Religion ) have lead some to declare him one of the greatest practitioners of neoclassicism in Russia. On completion of the building, he and his family lived in apartments there for twelve years.

The building was originally an auxiliary structure, housing the living quarters of some of the service's top officials, as well as stables and workshops in its large courtyard, while the main offices of the postal service were in the Yaguzhinsky House. The buildings switched roles in 1803, and in 1859 Alberto Cavos designed the beautiful covered bridge connecting the first floors of the two buildings.

In 1903, the building's courtyard was turned into Petersburg's first glass-covered atrium. Since then it has been used as the main operations hall, and visitors can view the central granite pillar, marked with a zero. This once marked the official centre of St. Petersburg, from which all road distances to other towns and cities were measured.
