We encourage them to pull no punches but also to listen and reward them for raising problems and solutions at the same time. Ways of Working

Our Ways of Working are geared towards providing quality solutions at speed, efficiently and cost-effectively, partnering with those that are best in class wherever necessary to deliver on our vision. We respect each other’s time and do our hardest to meet every deadline or communicate well in advance if something outside of our control means it’s no longer possible. As one business and one team, we promote open inter-department collaboration and integration and actively avoid siloed working.

With all our Ways of Working, we ask ourselves the following questions:

  • Faster – will it make us faster?

  • Partner – are we both a trusted partner and working with best-in-class partners within our eco-system?

South africa travel and tourism services industry report 2024, with profiles of 55 companies such as tourvest, cullinan holdings, travelstart, harvey world travel, african eagle and nomad africa.

Dublin, Sept. 23, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "Travel and Tourism, Travel Agencies, Tour Operators and Related Services in South Africa 2024" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

South Africa's travel and tourism sector made a strong recovery in 2023, and has been resilient and adaptable since the pandemic. The industry is a significant contributor to the economy. International arrivals increased by almost 50% in 2023, although arrival numbers were still below pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. Industry analysts were expecting the situation to normalise by 2024. The industry accounted for 9.2% of total employment in 2023, and employment numbers were a third higher than in 2022.

This report focuses on the current state and future outlook of the travel and tourism industry in South Africa, including travel agencies, tour operators and related services. It includes information on the size of the industry, number of travellers, revenue, occupancy and economic impact, and the state of the industry in terms of tourism spend, accommodation, business travel, infrastructure and medical tourism.

There is information on notable players, corporate actions and industry developments. The report includes profiles of 55 companies, with diversified travel and tourism groups such as Tourvest, Cullinan Holdings and Rennies BCD, travel agencies such as Flight Centre, Travelstart and Harvey World Travel, and tour operators such as African Eagle and Nomad Africa.

Opportunities

Leveraging technology, such as developing online booking platforms, virtual tours and apps. Adventure tourism such as hiking, water sports and wildlife safaris. Culinary, wine, beer and gin tourism. Cultural exchanges between tourists and local communities, such as homestays, cultural workshops and heritage tours. Eco-friendly accommodation, wildlife conservation experiences and community-based tourism initiatives. Medical tourism. Organising, marketing and hosting international events, music festivals and sports tournaments. Promotion of sustainable tourism.

Economic factors affecting travel.

Adaptability to rapidly changing digital and technological advancements.

Balancing tourism growth with environmental conservation and sustainability.

Challenge to secure funding for tourism development projects, marketing campaigns and infrastructure development.

Complex regulatory frameworks and visa regulations.

Inadequate transport infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

Maintaining consistent service quality levels.

Perceptions on crime, health risks and political instability.

Safety and security concerns, with high crime rates and negative safety perceptions.

Seasonal fluctuations.

Skills shortages, retention and training.

Demand for health and wellness and cultural experiences.

Domestic tourism becoming increasingly more important.

Increased interest in adventure tourism and culinary tours.

Sustainable practices, community engagement and responsible tourism are gaining prominence.

Technology is transforming the sector.

Travel and tourism industry growth is forecast to significantly outstrip growth of the country's economy. Economic and geopolitical headwinds continue to pose significant challenges to international tourism and confidence levels. Persisting inflation, high interest rates, volatile oil prices and disruptions to trade continue to translate into high transport and accommodation costs. Extreme temperatures and other weather events could impact the destination choice of many travellers.

The outlook for the South African industry depends on economic recovery and growth, increased international tourist arrivals, effective marketing and promotion, streamlining visa policies and processes, stimulating domestic tourism, improvement in safety and health measures and expansion of cultural and heritage tourism. Travel agencies will increasingly focus on online sales, and some traditional brick-and-mortar travel agencies may close or scale down due to decreased demand for in-person services.

Free bus services, shuttle trains: Alternative travel options amid MRT disruption on EWL

tourvest travel services services

SINGAPORE – If you are affected by the MRT service disruption on the East-West Line (EWL) which has entered its second day on Sept 26, you can consider the following alternative travel arrangements.

As train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations remain unavailable, transport operator SMRT has arranged for free bridging bus services between these two stops.

Free regular bus services are also available between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations, covering the nine-station stretch first affected by a traction power fault that occurred on the morning of Sept 25.

Commuters can also take the shuttle train that is running at 10-minute intervals between Boon Lay and Jurong East stations, and between Queenstown and Buona Vista stations.

SMRT advised those travelling towards the city centre to take the North-South Line via Jurong East, Woodlands and Bishan; the Thomson-East Coast Line via Woodlands and Caldecott; and the Downtown Line via Botanic Gardens.

To get on the Circle Line, commuters can alight at Queenstown and take the shuttle train to Buona Vista.

To transfer to the North-South Line, they can alight at Boon Lay and take the shuttle train to Jurong East.

The transport operator urged commuters to follow updates on its official social media channels.

“We are deeply sorry and thank all commuters for their understanding and patience, as we do our best to recover train services on the affected stretch of the East-West Line,” SMRT said in an update on Facebook at 9.20pm on Sept 25.

Those who wished to book a ride to Buona Vista MRT station via Grab, Gojek and ComfortDelGro might have encountered difficulties in the morning.

Between 9.30am and 11am, The Straits Times was unable to book a ride to the station on these ride-hailing apps.

A pop-up message on Grab said Buona Vista station was “inaccessible due to a public event”, while the message on Gojek said there was an “emergency in the area”. ComfortDelGro’s app showed that the “destination address is restricted from booking”.

As at 6pm, users were able to book rides to Buona Vista station with Gojek and ComfortDelGro, but not on the Grab app.

Amid the service disruption on the morning of Sept 26, commuters and MRT station staff also had to brave heavy rain which started at around 8am.

Many MRT station staff were seen directing buses to stop closer to the sheltered bus stop, so that commuters would not get drenched while boarding or alighting from the bus.

Some of them were also seen assisting a wheelchair user in alighting from the bus.
