The number of riders at the start , comprising 22 teams of 7 racers each.

The distance in kilometres of stage 7, the longest of the race , between Champagnole and Le Grand-Bornand.

The height, in metres, of the Col du Glandon , the “roof” of the 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, which will be tackled on the eighth and final stage.

The total vertical gain, in metres, on stage 8 , which features the hardest climbs of this third edition of the race.

PRIZE MONEY

A total of €250,000 will be awarded across the different stage, jersey and team competitions, including €50,000 to the winner of the final general classification.

Stage 8 - Tour de France Femmes: Demi Vollering conquers Alpe d’Huez as Kasia Niewiadoma wins GC title / As it happened

Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-Sram) held off a long range attack by Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) to win the 2024 Tour de France Femmes. Vollering powered away on the penultimate climb of Col du Glandon with only Pauliena Rooijakkers (Fenix-Deceuninck) able to hold her wheel, and for a short time became the virtual leader on the road.

But some difficult minutes, Niewiadoma regrouped, dug deep and was able to shorten the gap to Vollering who won the stage on Alpe d’Huez.  Rooijakkers was second on the stage, and Évita Muzic (FDJ-Suez) came around Niewiadoma to take third.

Niewiadoma claimed the overall victory with four seconds on Vollering, and 10 seconds on Rooijakkers.

Stage 7 - Tour de France Femmes: Justine Ghekiere wins at Le Grand-Bornand as Kasia Niewiadoma retains yellow / As it happened

Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal) attacked her breakaway companions on the Col de Saint-Jean-de-Sixt with 13.5km to go to solo to victory on stage 7. Ghekiere was part of a six-rider move that escaped with over 80 kilometres to go.  Maëva Squiban (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) attacked from the field to take second, and Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) outsprinted Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) for third.

Niewiadoma, who was fourth on the stage, retains the yellow jersey with 27 seconds on Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) and 37 seconds on Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT).

Stage 6 - Tour de France Femmes: Cedrine Kerbaol solos to stage 6 victory / As it happened

Cedrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT) became the first French stage winner of the Tour de France Femmes, taking a daring solo move on the descent into Morteau. Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) won the sprint for second to move into the green points classification jersey, while Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) maintained her lead in the overall classification.

Stage 5 - Tour de France Femmes: Blanka Vas wins stage 5 as Vollering loses yellow jersey after crash / As it happened It was a dramatic day on the Tour de France Femmes, with stage 5 delivering a victory for SD Worx-Protime with Blanka Vas but the team also lost the yellow jersey after Demi Vollering crashed within the final 10km. Vas outsprinted Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) and Liane Lippert (Movistar) to claim the stage win while an injured Vollering limped over the line in 50th place, 1:47 off the winning time. After coming second on the stage Niewiadoma took over the yellow jersey from Vollering, who now sits back in ninth place overall, 1:19 off the lead spot.

Stage 4 - Tour de France Femmes: Puck Pieterse stuns Vollering with first WorldTour victory in photo finish on stage 4 / As it happened

Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) delivered a stunning sprint to win stage 4 in a photo finish, beating yellow jersey Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) narrowly to the line in Liège. Pieterse, Vollering and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM) escaped the peloton on the climb of the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. Niewiadoma claimed third.

Vollering retains the yellow jersey with a 22-second lead on Pieterse, and 43 seconds on Niewiadoma.

Stage 3 - Tour de France Femmes: Demi Vollering rules Rotterdam with stage 3 time trial victory and moves into yellow jersey / As it happened

Defending champion Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) clocked the fastest time on the 6.3km time trial in Rotterdam to win stage 3 and take over the yellow jersey. She bested ITT world champion Chloé Dygert (Canyon-SRAM), Loes Adegeest (FDJ-Suez), and Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT) by five seconds.

In the general classification, Vollering has a three-second lead on her teammate Lorena Wiebes and five seconds on Dygert, Adegeest and Kerbaol.

Stage 2 - Tour de France Femmes: Charlotte Kool outpaces Lorena Wiebes to win stage 2 / As it happened

Charlotte Kool (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) sprinted to back-to-back victories on stage 2 in Rotterdam. The yellow jersey outsprinted   Lorena Wiebes  (SD Worx-Protime) while Marianne Vos  (Visma-Lease a Bike) finished third.

Kool remained in yellow after the first of two stages on the second day of racing, with 14 seconds on Anniina Ahtosalo  (Uno-X Mobility) who is second, and Wiebes, in third.

Stage 1 - Tour de France Femmes: Charlotte Kool wins stage 1 sprint in The Hague and takes first yellow jersey / As it happened

Charlotte Kool  (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) won the opening stage of the 2024  Tour de France Femmes  in The Hague and so pulled on the first yellow jersey of this year's race with a superbly-timed sprint finish.   

The Dutch rider took advantage of a mechanical problem that slowed expected favourite Lorena Wiebes  (SD Worx-Protime). She was hit by Anniina Ahtosalo  (Uno-X Mobility), losing her derailleur, her chain and so any power on the pedals. 

Ahtosalo finished fast to take second and Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) was third. 

2024 Tour de France Femmes Information

The route for the 2024 Tour de France Femmes  was officially presented in Paris on October 25 by race director Marion Rousse. 

The third edition of the modern incarnation of the women's Tour de France will be held after the Paris Olympic Games with eight stages across seven days between Monday, August 12 and Sunday, August 18.

Organisers offer a total of 946.3km of racing that includes three flat stages for the sprinters, one individual time trial, two hilly stages, two mountain stages and a crowning conclusion atop the iconic Alpe d'Huez.

2024 Tour de France Femmes Route

The route for the 2024 Tour de France Femmes includes a Grand Départ in the Netherlands from August 12 to August 14, and takes place in host cities Rotterdam, The Hague, Dordrecht, and Valkenburg.

The route then crosses into the Ardennes Classics iconic cities of Liège and Bastogne before entering France and travelling into the Alps for two final mountain stages in Le Grand Bornand and Alpe d'Huez.

2024 Tour de France Femmes Schedule

Defending champion Demi Vollering (SD Worx) is likely to return to the 2024 Tour de France Femmes to try and win a second consecutive overall title after securing the yellow jersey in the 2023 edition.

Annemiek van Vleuten , the winner of the 2022 Tour de France Femmes and fourth in 2023, has retired from professional cycling after a sparkling 16-year career and so will not be competing in the third edition of the event.

Two-time podium finisher Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM), gravel world champion, will line up as one of the main contenders for the overall title.

Road race world champion Lotte Kopecky (also SD Worx) won the opening stage last year and wore the yellow jersey for six days, climbed with the best to the summit of the Col du Tourmalet, and then stormed to third place in the time trial in Pau. She closed out the eight-day race by winning the green points jersey and taking second overall behind her teammate Vollering. She will be one to watch in the 2024 edition of the Tour de France Femmes.

Juliette Labous (Team dsm-firmenich) was the top French rider in last year's Tour de France Femmes, and other riders to watch will be Évita Muzic and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig of FDJ-SUEZ as well as Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek).

Cyclingnews  has assembled a full list of champions dating back to the first version in 1955 and the original women's Tour de France stage race held from 1984-1989 to the modern Tour de France Femmes.

The women's peloton raced their  first official launch of the women's Tour de France  until  1984 won by American Marianne Martin . It was an 18-day race held simultaneously as the men's event and along much of the same but shortened routes with shared finish lines. The Société du Tour de France, which later became part of ASO in 1992, managed both men's and women's events. 

The women's Tour de France ended in 1989, and while ASO went on to organise women's one-day races like La Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, La Course, and the inaugural Paris-Roubaix Femmes (in 2021), the women's peloton had not been included as part of the official Tour de France for the past 30 years.

Other women's stage races in France, not run by ASO, took place, including the Tour Cycliste Féminin, which had started in 1992, and the re-named Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale, until it came to an end in 2009. 

La Course by La Tour de France was then created in 2014 following a petition to ASO calling for a women's Tour de France. Le Tour Entier's petition was led by Kathryn Bertine, Marianne Vos, Emma Pooley and Chrissie Wellington and secured 97,307 signatures. The event was held across various platforms, from a one-day to a multi-day event between 2014 and 2021. 

Champions included  Marianne Vos ,  Anna van der Breggen  and  Chloe Hosking  in the first three editions from 2014 to 2016.  Annemiek van Vleuten  won in 2017 and 2018, followed by Vos in 2019,  Lizzie Deignan  in 2020 and  Demi Vollering  in 2021.

Despite its controversy, La Course had become one of the most showcased events in the Women's WorldTour, and although the wait was longer than anyone anticipated, it finally became the stepping stone to the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

Tour de France men's race director Christian Prudhomme made a  long-awaited confirmation  that Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) would launch a women's  Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in 2022  with Marion Rousse as the event's race director.

Zwift announced that it would become the title sponsor of the  Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift  on a five-year deal through 2026.

The first edition of the rebirth of the 2022 Tour de France Femmes was an eight-day race that began on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in conjunction with the final stage 21 of the men's Tour de France and ended on La Super Planche des Belles Filles, where  Annemiek van Vleuten  (Movistar) was crowned the overall champion.

The 2023 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift route hit new heights with 956 kilometres and a grand finale in the Pyrenees with a mountaintop finish on the iconic Tourmalet on stage 7 and a final stage 8 time trial in Pau, with Demi Vollering winning the overall title.

The 2024 Tour de France Femmes will showcase back-to-back summit finishes at Le Grand Bornand and Alpe d'Huez where the overall champion will be crowned.

The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift begins Monday, August 12 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. We’ve compiled the top riders to help you get ready.

DEMI VOLLERING, 27 (Netherlands)

TEAM SD WORX-PROTIME

2023 POSITION: 1st

The world’s best stage racer leading the world’s most powerful team. That, in summary, is the reason why Vollering is the overwhelming favorite to successfully defend of her title. The Dutch rider’s flight into the mist on the Tourmalet last year is still in everyone’s mind, as are the gaps at the summit—she was two minutes ahead of the next rider. Since then, the 2022 winner Annemiek van Vleuten has retired and no one seems equipped to stand in Vollering’s way.

You really have to rack your brains to find them, as there’s not much evidence of her having any limitations. That said, the winner of the 2023 Vélo d’Or award will have to deal with the inconveniences that her new status as the defending champion bring. There will be an even stronger spotlight on her as the Grand Départ is taking place in her own backyard, in the Netherlands. How will she react to this phenomenal pressure?

KASIA NIEWIADOMA, 29 (Poland)

CANYON // SRAM RACING

2023 POSITION: 3rd

Punch and panache have been Niewiadoma ’s trademarks for a decade. On last year’s Pyrenean stage, she tried to turn the tables on the descent of the Aspin while Vollering and van Vleuten were keeping tabs on each other. This year, the brevity of the time trial and the abundance of difficulties elsewhere make this course a perfect playground for the Polish climber—whose victory over Vollering at April’s Flèche Wallonne has given her new confidence.

Her inability to win even though she’s so often well placed reached quite astonishing proportions before she won this year’s Flèche Wallonne. Before that victory, the world gravel champion had accumulated 53 top fives since her last previous win on the road, which came in June 2019. It seems that she nearly always comes up against someone who’s stronger or more cunning than her. Finishing third in both of the first two editions of the Tour Femmes only highlights this deficiency.

JULIETTE LABOUS, 25 (France)

TEAM DSM FIRMENICH-POSTNL

2023 POSITION: 5th

Blessed with great endurance, as well as a good climber and time trialist, Labous has what it takes to compete for the podium. Finish fourth and then fifth in the race’s first two editions, she seems even more capable of top three this year. Humble but determined, the runner-up to van Vleuten at the 2023 Giro will be well supported by the French fans, especially on stage 6 to Morteau, where she was once a member of the local club.

Last year, her sensitivity to extreme heat was partly responsible for her difficult opening stage in Clermont-Ferrand. This year, she would like a longer time trial to take advantage of her talent in this discipline. In the event of a sprint in a small group, she lacks the explosiveness required for victory and bonus seconds.

ASHLEIGH MOOLMAN, 38 (South Africa)

AG INSURANCE-SOUDAL TEAM

2023 POSITION: 6th

At 38 and in her final season of racing, Moolman is the most experienced contender for the podium. By finishing fourth on the Tourmalet in the 2023 Tour Femmes (and fifth this year in La Flèche Wallonne), she confirmed that she’s still among the best climbers. Second at the Giro in 2018 and 2021, she can cope very well with repeated efforts. The final three stages in the mountains suit her perfectly.

Very slight in stature, the 108-pound South African champion isn’t at her best when racing on the flat stages. And her team isn’t yet at the same level as the very best—although it has been strengthened this year with the arrivals of Australia’s Sarah Gigante, winner of January’s Santos Tour Down Under, and Belgium’s Julie Van de Velde.

GAIA REALINI, 23 (Italy)

FIRST APPEARANCE

One of the smallest riders in the peloton, at 4 feet 11 inches and 88 pounds, Realini is a pure climber with an unbeatable power-to-weight ratio. Last year, her first season on the UCI WorldTour, was a success, as she finished second at the UAE Tour, the Vuelta and the Giro, and third at Flèche Wallonne. Having Elisa Longo Borghini alongside her is a real plus.

She’ll definitely be out of her comfort zone during the first two stages where echelons could well form if it’s windy (she lost two minutes in echelons on a similar stage of this year’s Vuelta) as well as in the time trial that follows through the streets of Rotterdam. She’s still learning the trade and, now 23, will discover the intensity of the pressure that comes with the Tour for the first time.

MARTA CAVALLI, 26 (Italy)

2023 POSITION: 19th

Two years ago, Cavalli emerged with victories in quick succession at the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, while she also finished fifth at Paris-Roubaix, which showed the breadth of her ability. She was also second at the Giro Donne, the only rider who could compete with winner van Vleuten on the climbs that year.

Her terrible crash during the first edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift left its mark. Finishing eighth on the Tourmalet last year was an encouraging sign. But she was unable to confirm her return to the peloton’s elite at the start of this season, after injuring her pelvis in a training crash—and by mid-May she had completed only five days of racing.

ELISA LONGO BORGHINI, 32 (Italy)

Winner of the Tour of Flanders (in 2015 and this year), Paris–Roubaix (2022) and Strade Bianche (2017), the four-time Italian champion has carved out an incredible palmarès thanks to her versatility and racing nous. She’s also at home in stage races, as shown by her two podiums at the Giro Donne, her sixth place in the 2022 Tour Femmes and her third place in this year’s Vuelta Femenina.

WEAKNESSES 

She’s not the best climber around. Consequently, her dreams of a podium in this third edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift could be dashed on the final day on the road to L’Alpe d’Huez. Last year, ill and exhausted, she had to throw in the towel before the Tourmalet stage.

By finishing six stages in the top seven and in fifth place overall, the Italian was the major revelation of the Tour’s first edition. A superb all-rounder, the cyclocross specialist finished in style at Super Planche des Belles Filles, where only van Vleuten and Vollering were ahead of her.

A winner just once in 2023 (at Flèche Brabançonne) and so far in 2024 (GP du Morbihan), the 27-year-old was further off the radar in last summer’s Tour Femmes (18th on the Tourmalet and 14th overall), which leaves us to wonder whether she might be more suited to one-day classics than stage races.

RIEJANNE MARKUS, 29 (The Netherlands)

2023 POSITION: 11th

After riding in the shadow of her fellow Dutch teammate Marianne Vos for many years, Markus  has improved markedly in recent seasons, notably at the Vuelta Femenina, by placing fourth in 2023 and second this year (beaten only by Vollering). She’s a strong time trialist and has become a stronger climber in the past two years.

She won’t be able to gain much time in the short time trial at this year’s Tour and she’s still limited in the high mountains, so a top five is probably the best she can do on GC.

CECILIE UTTRUP LUDWIG, 28 (Denmark)

2023 POSITION: 7th

Her explosive attacks can hit the mark. Winner on the heights above Épernay in 2022, the Dane could be one of the big favorites to win stage 4 in the Ardennes. She’ll be able to count on very solid and experienced teammates.

Having quickly established herself among the world’s elite, she’s struggled to take the final step that would enable her to claim the great victories that once seemed likely. She is somewhat limited in the high mountains. Her 2024 season started well with a stage win at January’s Tour Down Under,  but a fractured sacrum in a crash at February’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad stopped her from racing until mid-May.

153 ciclistas tomarán la partida este lunes 22 de agosto desde países bajos, dándole inicio al tour de francia femenino 2024..

Este lunes 12 de agosto comienzan las emociones del Tour de Francia femenino 2024 y por en Caracol Sports le contamos cuál será el recorrido de las ocho etapas.

Perfil y altimetría de las 8 etapas del Tour de Francia

Etapa 1: Róterdam - La Haya | 123 km La etapa comienza con un bucle de 40 km que cuenta con dos viajes a través de un túnel largo y de nueva construcción bajo las aguas del río Scheur, el túnel se inaugurará formalmente en esta gran ocasión. A continuación, los ciclistas se encontrarán en un terreno llano y expuesto al viento, la ruta discurre entre campos de tulipanes y a través de zonas urbanas. Los últimos cinco kilómetros, amplios y sin grandes dificultades, desembocan en una recta final por una avenida perfecta para un sprint masivo.

Etapa 2: Dordretch - Róterdam | 69,7 km Con dos etapas en el menú en un solo día, los corredores revivirán una tradición abandonada por el Tour de Francia en 1991. La mañana trae esta corta pero intensa etapa en ruta, que estará sujeta a los caprichos del viento y a los constantes cambios de dirección. Para un probable final al sprint en Boompjes, una amplia avenida bordeada de rascacielos.

Etapa 3: Róterdam - Róterdam | 6.3 km (Contrarreloj individual) Esta corta e intensa contrarreloj debería adaptarse al más potente de los corredores. Las únicas ligeras subidas del recorrido serán los dos puentes principales, el de Érasme y el de Guillaume. Hay algunas curvas en ángulo recto a medida que el recorrido pasa por el ayuntamiento y el museo marítimo, pero es principalmente por grandes bulevares y el ganador podría promediar cerca de 50 km/h.

Etapa 4: Valkenburg - Lieja | 122,7 km La combinación de las dificultades de la Amstel Gold Race (Geulhemmerberg y Bemelerberg dos veces, además del Cauberg) con las de la Lieja-Bastoña-Lieja hará que esta etapa sea muy desafiante. En la meta, en el Quai des Ardennes, el final, disputado por Mont-Theux (2,8 km al 5,6%), habrá puesto a prueba al pelotón tras las subidas de la Côte de la Redoute, Côte des Forges y Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons.

Etapa 5: Bastogne - Amnéville | 152,5 km El recorrido muy ondulado (con más de 2.000 m de desnivel) y los cambios regulares de dirección deberían producir una etapa dinámica. Los corredores más exigentes disfrutarán de esta prueba, y especialmente de la meta, que se situará frente a las termas de Amnéville, en lo alto de un último kilómetro desafiante (una pendiente del 6% al principio, luego entre el 3 y el 4% hasta la meta).

Etapa 6: Remiremont - Morteau | 159,2 km Después de dejar el pintoresco entorno de Remiremont y dirigirse hacia el valle del Mosela, el pelotón pasará por la ciudad natal de Thibaut Pinot, Melisey, y luego por su lugar de nacimiento, Lure. Más allá del magnífico Circo de Consolación, la primera prueba en el macizo del Jura, el recorrido cuenta con dos rampas significativas de cara a la meta (5,5 km al 5,6% y 1,8 km al 6,9%).

Etapa 7: Champagnole - Le Grand Bornand | 166,4 km La etapa más larga de esta edición de 2024 comenzará con una serie de obstáculos más pequeños, además del largo recorrido por el Col de la Croix de la Serra (12 km al 5,1%), desde el lado de Saint-Claude. Concluye con un nuevo y empinado final en Chinaillon (7 km, 5,1%), una auténtica aldea con chalets tradicionales en los flancos del Col de la Colombière.

Etapa 8: Le Grand Bornand - Alpe d'Huez | 149,9 km Una etapa de montaña realmente hermosa con dos grandes subidas: el punto más alto de esta tercera edición del Tour de Francia Femmes avec Zwift llega en el Col du Glandon (1.924 m), que se abordará por su lado más duro (19,7 km al 7,2%); luego, para la gran final, tenemos las míticas 21 horquillas Alpe d'Huez, donde está destinado a emerger el campeón de 2024.

La neerlandesa hizo valer su favoritismo atacando en los cinco kil�metros finales del coloso pirenaico

Demi Vollering es, dado su talento y los resultados, la heredera al trono del ciclismo femenino. Entre las neerlandesas, Annemiek Van Vleuten completa sus �ltimas carreras o Marianne Vos tambi�n est� en los �ltimos compases de una carrera gloriosa. Vollering toma ese testigo. Lo demostr� en las Ardenas, firmando un triplete hist�rico. Y en el Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, la gran carrera del pelot�n femenino, sac� el resto. Un ataque en una cima legendaria, el Tourmalet. Y un triunfo bajo la niebla que vale una carrera deportiva.

Aceler�n en el Aspin

Como no pod�a ocurrir de otra forma, todo se decidi� en el encadenado pirenaico Aspin-Tourmalet . Mil y una veces pasa el Tour por sus herraduras, aunque la primera para las chicas que entraron en faena con el paso del Movistar Team. Hasta que Van Vleuten peg� su primer aceler�n, faltando cinco para el final del Aspin. All� sufri� Lotte Kopecky, l�der de la carrera desde el primer d�a. Fue el mejor momento de una Van Vleuten algo desdibujada.

A la rueda de la campeona del mundo lleg� con solvencia Vollering, sin pasar al relevo, y Niewiadoma . Por detr�s, pocas fuerzas para cerrar el hueco que pronto empez� a rondar el medio minuto. La jefa de filas de Movistar copaba el mando, coronando el Aspin con 50 segundos de renta. Salvo desastre, la etapa... y casi el Tour pas� a estar en el grupo cabecero.

Aunque no ser�a una batalla sencilla. Vollering y Van Vleuten se marcaron, cosa que Niewadoma no comparti� en el descenso saltando en cabeza. El poco entendimiento entre las favoritas se not�, al conseguir 58 segundos en las faldas del Tourmalet. Tanto que el grupo perseguidor, que no pod�a seguir el ritmo en el Aspin con Kopecky, las alcanz�.

El Tourmalet

La aventura de Niewadoma vivi� momentos de drama, como casi ser capturada antes de la pancarta de 10 de meta. Pero las SD Worx frenaron. Dos bazas, con Vollering y la l�der Kopecky, que conforme avanzaban los kil�metros del Tourmalet sub�a sus garant�as, mejor que una era su pensamiento en un grupo con Moolman y la gala Labous.

Se sab�an superiores y en los cinco finales Vollering movi� ficha . Su ataque no tuvo respuesta de Van Vleuten y en una de las infinitas galer�as caz� a Niewadoma. Ataque ganador y ataque de Tour de Francia para la favorita n�mero 1 al triunfo junto a Annemiek Van Vleuten.

Ritmo inabordable, el que todo el a�o mostr�. Sin cambio por detr�s, con Van Vleuten sufriendo para mantener su velocidad sentada. Bajo la niebla, con im�genes propias de otra �poca , Vollering tom� el Tourmalet. 1:58 de renta sobre Niewadoma y 2:34 con Van Vleuten. La general la domina (1:50 a Niewadoma y 2:28 a Van Vleuten) y tiene en su mano su gran triunfo. El Tour ser� de Vollering.

Niewiadoma resiste a Vollering y el Tour de Francia femenino se decidirá mañana en Alpe d'Huez

Victoria para la belga justine ghekiere en la séptima y penúltima etapa del tour de francia femenino, de 166,4 kilómetros entre champgnole y le grand-bornand, la polaca katarzyna niewiadoma se ha pegado a la rueda trasera de la neerlandesa demi vollering y mantiene el maillot amarillo de líder a la espera de lo que suceda este domingo en alpe d'huez.

Haciendo gala de sus grandes dotes de escaladora la ciclista belga Justine Chekiere ha logrado la victoria en la séptima y penúltima etapa del Tour de Francia femenino , con el ascenso final a Grand-Bornand (Monte du Chinaillon) , de segunda categoría, 8,2 kilómetros al 4,7%.

La corredora del AG Insurance-Soudal Team ha logrado una clara victoria con 1'15" de margen sobre la francesa Maëva Squiban y lo ha hecho honrando el maillot de lunares que acredita a la mejor ciclista en la montaña. La ciclista de Izegem ha vuelto a demostrar sus grandes condiciones de escaladora, como ya hizo previamente en el Giro de Italia y en la Volta Ciclista a Catalunya . La lograda este sábado es su primera victoria de la temporada y segunda como profesional.

Una vez sabido qué corredora ganaría la etapa, todas las miradas estaban puestas en el duelo que mantenían la polaca Katarzyna Niewiadoma  y la neerlandesa Demi Vollering . La primera se ha defendido muy bien de los ataques de la ganadora de la pasada edición del Tour de Francia y ha acabado la jornada casi con el mismo margen con el que empezará el día respecto a la neerlandesa, 1'15"; más cerca tiene a la también neerlandesa Puck Pieterse , 27", y a la francesa Cédrine Kerbaol, 37".

La última etapa se la llevó la ciclista neerlandesa Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) por delante de su compatriota Pauliena Rooijakkers (Fenix-Deceuninck) y de la francesa Évita Muzic (FDJ-Suez).

La clasificación general fue para la polaca Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-Sram), con Demi Vollering y Pauliena Rooijakkers cerrando el podio.

El Mundial de ciclismo vive este sábado 28 de septiembre su gran día con la prueba en ruta femenina por la ciudad de Zúrich . Te contamos el palmarés femenino de esta competición.

La ciclista más dominante en la historia del campeonato mundial de ciclismo en ruta femenino fue la francesa Jeannie Longo , ganadora en cinco ocasiones (1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 y 1995).

También marcó una época la neerlandesa Marianne Vos , una de las ciclistas más versátiles del circuito y poseedora de tres títulos mundiales (2006, 2012 y 2013).

Swiss rookie Chiara Tamburlini defeated Kirsten Rudgeley on the first play-off hole to win the Lacoste Ladies Open de France on Saturday.

With the pair locked at seven-under par it was back to the 18th hole at Golf Barriere, where the 24-year-old produced an excellent birdie after her Aussie opponent's effort came up short.

The victory is Tamburlini's second of 2024 after she dominated in South Africa to claim the Joburg Ladies Open.

"It was way too stressful!" she said afterwards. "Kirsten played so well today, especially on the back nine, she really lit it up and it was tough for me to keep up.

"The birdie on 17 in regular play was huge to keep up with her. And then the birdie on the play-off hole was incredible. I can't really believe it right now. It all went so fast!"

Tamburlini droped three shots on the front nine, however, three birdies in a row on the eighth, ninth and 10th moved her two clear before Rudgeley lit things up on the back nine making four birdies on the 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th to move into the lead.

But Tamburlini tied things up to force a play-off with an even-par round of 71.

After splitting the fairway, Tamburlini produced more magic, almost holing her approach as it spun back to seven-feet. Rudgeley did well to hit the green after pulling her drive left but with the birdie effort coming up short, Tamburlini was able to hole her putt for victory.

"It was a rollercoaster day," said Tamburlini. "I did not have my A-game, especially at the beginning. I couldn't make a putt but I just kept telling myself it's not over until 18. It all worked out in the end.

"The win builds my confidence because even though I played well, it was a fight this week. Things didn't come that easy like when I won in Joburg. It felt like I was in a flow state there. It was really a grind this week so it's great to see I can grind it out."

Kopecky revalida su arcoíris en Zúrich en un Mundial pasado por agua

La belga se proclama campeona del mundo de fondo por segundo año consecutivo bajo unas condiciones durísimas. dygert y longo borghini, en el podio..

Por tercer día consecutivo, la lluvia no dio tregua en Zúrich. Por enésima vez en esta temporada, Lotte Kopecky tampoco. La belga supo sufrir en los últimos kilómetros de la prueba de fondo élite femenina del Mundial, que fue todo un ejercicio de supervivencia por el frío y la lluvia, y se colgó el oro por segundo año consecutivo, una gesta que no se veía desde que lo lograse la legendaria Marianne Vos en 2012 y 2013. Tras rodar ligeramente descolgada, Kopecky consiguió enlazar a 14 km de meta para imponer después su poderío al esprint, gracias a seguir la estela de la estadounidense Chloe Dygert, que se hizo con la plata. Elisa Longo Borghini sumó su tercera medalla mundialista, con otros tantos bronces. Usoa Ostolaza fue la mejor española, en una discreta 48ª plaza.

Antes de la salida se guardó un minuto de silencio en memoria de la suiza Muriel Furrer, fallecida el pasado viernes por culpa de una caída en la prueba júnior. Las emotivas lágrimas de las corredoras helvéticas encogían el corazón. Esa imagen dio paso a la temporada de peli, sofá y manta que tan pronto comienza en Suiza. Ya a estas alturas de año, el cielo gris, la lluvia y las bajas temperaturas (de unos 14º) se instalan por un largo tiempo. No obstante, el desapacible ambiente no frenó el ímpetu de las corredoras, especialmente el de las tres que formaron la primera fuga del día: Nina Berton (Luxemburgo), la local Caroline Baur y la española Sara Martín. Poco duró su aventura, ya que tras el primer paso por meta, con 102 km por delante, fueron neutralizadas. Justo después se formó un corte mucho más peligroso para las grandes selecciones, con notables outsiders como Sarah Gigante y Fisher-Black, pero Holanda no estaba para bromas. El control oranje provocó el reagrupamiento a 74 km del final.

Para la segunda mitad de carrera, el grupo de cabeza se redujo a la mínima expresión, con apenas 30 corredoras delante. Para entonces, Kopecky ya estaba sola ante el peligro, ante la superioridad numérica de una Holanda que controlaba a placer. Por si fuera poco, sus dos bazas principales, intactas, eran ni más ni menos que Vollering y Vos. Casi nada. La apuesta holandesa, como era de esperar, finalmente fue la corredora del SD Worx, que en la penúltima subida al Witikon tomó la iniciativa. El grupo principal saltó por los aires, a excepción de un puñado de elegidas: Kopecky, Longo Borghini, Labous y Lippert. Desgraciadamente, tanto Mavi García, que se vio obligada a abandonar, como el resto de la delegación española quedaron fuera de esa batalla mucho antes.

Para la última vuelta, Ghekiere, Markus, una recuperada Vos (se descolgó de la cabeza en el penúltimo giro) y Roseman-Gannon pusieron un extra de emoción a un desenlace que previamente se cocinó a fuego lento, casi por eliminación. Las cuatro abrieron un hueco de 1 minuto sobre las favoritas, grupo en el que la responsabilidad de persecución ya no recaía en Holanda ni Bélgica, representadas delante por dos y una corredora, respectivamente. Con Kopecky y Vollering atadas de pies y manos, parecía que las de delante tenían la sartén por el mango. Markus trabajó por Vos, su compañera en las filas del Visma. No había problema. Aunque tal sacrificio fue en vano…

Con la rabia que seguramente le dio perderse el Tour de Francia por culpa de una caída mientras entrenaba, Longo Borghini arrancó con todo en el último paso por el Witikon. La italiana, Vollering y Lippert llegaron con suma facilidad al grupo de cabeza, pero no así Kopecky, que casi se despedía de su preciado arcoíris. Sin embargo, con el impulso posterior de la incombustible Dygert, Kopecky volvía al tablero de juego. Pese a los desesperados últimos intentos de Vollering, nadie consiguió sorprender, al más puro estilo Annemiek van Vleuten en el Mundial de Wollongong de 2022. Y ahí Kopecky, una de las corredoras más rápidas del planeta, tenía todas las de ganar. Curiosamente, la belga no vestirá el próximo año el maillot original de su propio equipo, ya que en carreras en línea llevará el arcoíris y en cronos lucirá el de campeona de Europa. Una ciclista total.
