Moscow Police Station

The Moscow Police Station was created by Lombard Conrad Architects and Wellens General Contractors through the generosity of Moscow citizens. The building employs sustainable features including a low-water-use landscape that maximizes water conservation, enhanced stormwater treatment to remove contaminants and full-cutoff light fixtures to reduce light pollution.

Internally, mechanical systems improvements include air source heat pumps as a non-carbon-based fuel source to increase energy efficiency. As the City prepares for the near-term transition of the MPD's vehicle fleet to electric vehicles (EV), conduits for future EV charging infrastructure have also been installed.

Missouri biker gang members among 18 charged in federal assault, racketeering case

Eighteen members of a motorcycle club, including 16 Missouri men, were indicted in federal court this week in connection with a series of armed assaults on members of rival organizations.

The men were all identified as members of the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club, which is classified by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as an outlaw motorcycle group. Rival organizations to the Missouri branch of the group include infamous biker group Hell’s Angels, along with the Outlaws, El Forastero, Galloping Goose, Sons of Silence and and Bandidos biker groups.

Each Pagan’s member is also known by a distinctive nickname. The indictment, unsealed Thursday, brings a combination of assault, firearm and racketeering charges against:

Christopher W. McGowen, alias “Mac,” 40, of Platte City, Mo.

Arthur L. Reynolds III, alias “Straight Edge,” 48, and Jarrid A. Hammer, alias “Hammer,” 45, both of Independence, Mo.

Jeremiah Z. Hahn, alias “Pass Out,” 41, and John J. Hahn, alias “Krazy Legs,” 46, both of Cameron, Mo.

Charles E. Smith, Jr., alias “Crash,” 38, and James W. Prettyman, alias “Rugby,” 42, both of Blue Springs, Mo.

Mark A. Cottman, alias “One Shot,” 49, of Kansas City, Mo.

Bryan S. Fletcher, alias “Fletch,” 48, and Mark A. Crump, alias “Navajo,” 54, both of Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Jeffrey S. Hannah, alias “Got-It,” 42, of Grain Valley, Mo.

Eric M. Forsyth, Jr., alias “EZ,” 34, of Oak Grove, Mo.

Robert W. Miller, alias “Flipper,” 46, and Brandon S. Hodge, alias “Youngblood,” 25, both of Joplin, Mo.

Monty L. Mitchell, alias “Smoke,” 58, of Windsor, Mo.

Alan M. Thornton, alias “Bones,” 40, of Holden, Mo.

John Travis Fisher, alias “T-Bone,” 51, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma

Graham S. Gattis, alias “Dro,” 40, of Panama City, Florida

The specific assaults that led to the arrests were mostly committed between May and September 2022, according to the indictment. All except Hammer, aka “Hammer,” and Crump, aka “Navajo,” were charged with some combination of assault or attempted assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and discharge of a firearm related to a violent crime.

“Hammer” and “Navajo,” along with Cottman, aka “One Shot”, were charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury, committed in the context of racketeering. The three men allegedly injured a rival gang member during an assault on July 20, 2023.

Pagan’s members reportedly often use either firearms or axe handles when committing violent assaults, according to the indictment. The organization has a strict and elaborate set of rules and symbols, under which members can earn motifs on their bikes or jackets after committing certain acts of violence.

Assaults are often committed in order to protect and expand territory, intimidate rivals, conceal members from law enforcement and advance extracurricular criminal projects, the indictment reads.

More than 40 illegal firearms were seized in conjunction with the bikers’ arrest, according to the indictment. A marijuana grow operation was also unearthed, along with a stash of body armor and thousands of rounds of illegally stockpiled ammunition.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment Aug. 7 in Kansas City, Missouri. The 18 men face between three and 50 years in prison, according to the indictment.

The Pagan’s is a national organization with multiple active chapters in Missouri. Other members have previously been charged with drug trafficking, robbery, extortion, assault and attempted murder, according to the indictment.

The organization’s former national leader, Christopher Lamar Baker, was sentenced to 75 years in prison in 2023 on methamphetamine trafficking, firearm distribution and money laundering charges.

The Independence, Kansas City Missouri, Kansas City Kansas, Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit police departments, among others, contributed to the investigation.

Campbell goes yard in third straight for Sea Dogs

There’s being red-hot at the plate, and then there’s the season Kristian Campbell is putting together.

The 2023 compensatory fourth-round pick, who opened the season unranked on MLB Pipeline’s Red Sox Top 30 list, has taken pro ball by storm, slashing .306/.418/.558 with High-A Greenville before earning a promotion to Double-A Portland and producing even stronger numbers.

His latest feat came on Sunday, when the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket homered in his third consecutive contest, as part of the Sea Dogs' 9-8 win over the Altoona Curve. The wallop raised Campbell's Double-A slash line to .380/.484/.592 and his 2024 OPS to 1.032 -- a mark that leads all full-season leagues in the Minors.

Unlike his first two wallops in the streak, which were both pulled over Hadlock Field’s Maine Monster in left, Campbell’s jack on Sunday – his 15th of the year -- was drilled to the opposite field. The homer came on a sinker from right-hander Eddy Yean and cut the Altoona lead to 6-4 in the fifth.

“[He was a] sinker, slider dude,” Campbell said. “I caught [the pitch] late, and just happened to catch it at the right time to drive it [out to right field].”

Currently ranked as Boston’s No. 30 prospect , MLB Pipeline’s gurus recently tabbed Campbell as the biggest riser in the organization and someone who is primed to make a considerable jump in the revamped rankings that will be unveiled on Tuesday night. Additionally, Pipeline’s Sam Dykstra noted that Campbell is among the five frontrunners for the Minor League Hitting Prospect of the Year award.

The 22-year-old reached base two other times in the contest, walking in the third and lacing a single to center field in the ninth.

While Campbell’s elite numbers are one of the biggest surprises of the Minor League season so far, his hit tool has always been his strength. In 45 games at Georgia Tech, the Marietta, Ga., native slashed .376/.484/.549. The main difference in his production since turning pro has been the emergence of his power.

“Ever since I got drafted, this whole year I've been in the org, we've been working on just my bat path and trying to hit the ball in the air more often,” said Campbell who only hit four homers in college. “I was a really big ground ball, line drive guy. I never really hit the ball to air too much. I hit the ball on the ground really hard, and I hit line drives really hard, I just never got the right launch angle to produce home runs.”

📩 CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO BEN'S BIZ

Campbell stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 191 pounds. The Red Sox identified his big frame and knew he had untapped power potential.

“I feel a lot more comfortable at the plate in pro ball vs. college,” Campbell said. “In college, I was kind of really down on my knees, low to the ground. So, that's the only thing I really changed with my swing. Everything else was strictly bat path and bat speed.”

Shortly after the victory, it was reported by multiple sources and confirmed by MLB.com's Ian Browne that the Red Sox are promoting their top three prospects -- Marcelo Mayer ( MLB No. 6 ), Roman Anthony ( MLB No. 13 ) and Kyle Teel ( MLB No. 23 ) -- to Triple-A Worcester.

Anthony and Teel both had standout performances in the win, with Anthony swatting a game-winning big fly in the eighth inning and Teel going 3-for-5 with a double.

“The Portland team is crazy,” said Campbell prior to the announcement of their promotion. “We have a stacked lineup. We got Roman [Anthony], Marcelo [Mayer], [Kyle] Teel, we got Blaze [Jordan], we got a lot of dudes on this team.

“Everybody wants to win for this team. ... They're all really, really good, and they make the game a lot easier.”

In second trial, La Crosse County jury finds Nya Thao guilty of killing 3 people execution-style

  • STEVE RUNDIO

  • Aug 13, 2024 Updated Aug 15, 2024

Nya Thao awaits a 2023 bail hearing in August 2023 at the La Crosse County Courthouse. On Tuesday, a jury found him guilty of killing 3 people in a second trial after the first resulted in a hung jury.

Nya Thao has been found guilty in the shooting deaths of three men outside a La Crosse County quarry July 23, 2021.

A La Crosse County Circuit Court jury deliberated 10 hours before reaching the verdict late Tuesday afternoon. The case went to the jury Monday.

Thao, 37, was found guilty of three felony counts of intentional first-degree homicide and one felony count of felon in possession of a firearm. He and 46-year-old Khamthaneth Rattanasack are accused of kidnapping Nemo Yang, Peng Lor and Trevor Maloney, transporting them to a quarry north of West Salem and shooting them execution-style.

According to prosecutors, Rattanasack believed Yang stole $600 from him and that he and Thao worked in concert to hunt down the three victims.

Thao was arrested in Wausau six days after the murders. He has been held in the La Crosse County Jail ever since.

Rattanasack pleaded guilty to the three murders and was sentenced to life in prison in January. He won’t be able to apply for early release until he turns 81.La C

La Crosse County sheriff John Siegel, whose office responded to the crime scene and investigated the case, said the verdict “closes the door on a horrific crime not only perpetrated on 3 individuals, but our entire community.”

“Many officers and agencies worked countless hours on this investigation,” Siegel said. “Thank you to our sheriff’s office personnel, our local police departments, District Attorney’s office and our state and federal partners that assisted in this case. We hope the victim’s families can continue to heal from this senseless tragedy.”

This was the second trial Thao faced, after the first resulted in a hung jury in June 2023.

Judge Elliott Levine didn’t set a sentencing date but said it would be scheduled within 30 to 60 days.
