I can't even tell you how many times that I've said, "come, come, Mr. Bond," since seeing this movie. It's actually kind of sad.

sorry but these are my boys. they’re just my two guys. it’s as simple as that. and doing silly voices can be integral to a certain type of friendship

“I’d rather have moments of genius than.... a lifetime of mediocrity.”
“The Trip” is about two British comedians eating lunch, eating dinner, driving around and arguing. It is also one of the most extremely enjoyable films under 100 minutes.
The film itself is hilarious. There isn’t actually a credited writer for the film as the majority of the film is actually full improvisation between Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.
I’m a huge fan of films or tv show where the performers actually play heightened versions of their real life counterparts. “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “This is the End” and “New Nightmare” are all great examples of this. “The Trip” utilises this trope by casting Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing over…

Come come, Mr. Bond... you derive just as much pleasure from pointless yet witty banter as I do.

Is it weird to have a crush on Steve Coogan?
It can't be as weird as having one on Rob Brydon, surely.
Review by Jake Cole ★★★½
Brydon totally steals this from Coogan, who is, as ever, great, but is playing up his usual sadsack celebrity routine while Brydon emerges as the childlike and childish cad who lives to brighten up a situation, even if the thought of being trapped in a room with him as he launches into a blizzard of impressions to fill silence can be terrifying. The Caine bit is an instant classic, but I'm also taken with Coogan imperiously scoring an idyllic country ride to Joy Division's "Atmosphere," or Coogan officiously explaining a natural valley formation as Brydon insists upon simply admiring it, then Coogan being irritated by an even more explanatory gent who one-ups his Wikipedia'd knowledge.
Review by Dave Horwitz ★★★½
If regular people were this good at doing bits, doing bits wouldn’t get such a bad rap.

“Death is but a moment, cowardice is a lifetime of affliction.”
Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon play somewhat alternate versions of themselves in this film based on their TV series of the same name which was also directed by Michael Winterbottom. About 70 minutes have been cut off from the series to fit the film format, but the flow of the story doesn't seem to be affected by it. The Trip is a fun ride which banks on the strong chemistry between Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon while also exploiting the gorgeous landscape of Northern England. The script is mostly improvised and the funniest moments are when Coogan and Brydon are competing over who can imitate Michael Caine better. They…
Review by Matthew Buchanan ★★★½ 3
If you’ve come across this at all, it is probably via the “duelling Michael Caines” clip which was a hit on YouTube . This feature, which began life as a short television series, is the extended remix of that clip.
Serial funny men Coogan and Brydon take a largely unscripted restaurant tour through England’s north, as an assignment for The Observer . Their improvised antics are punctuated by sprawling country landscapes (mostly while Coogan searches for cell coverage) and glorious food cinematography as the camera benignly observes the cooking process in the kitchens of their various destinations.
There’s a sweet, revealing undercurrent here of the real relationship between these two, and of the grass-is-greener, single vs spoken-for dynamic that underpins what little narrative the film offers.
Review by A. J. Black ★★★★ 3
On paper, The Trip sounds a horribly pretentious indulgence waiting to happen, doesn't it? Take two well known, loved and respected comedians--in this case Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon--playing themselves and follow them on a voyage across the picturesque North of England as they dine in lots of posh restaurants, swanky country hotels, drink gallons of wine & loaf about while the rest of us have to work hard - directed no less by Michael Winterbottom, who's about as 'art house' a British auteur as you can find. Have you been sick in your mouth yet? Well have no fear, because in actual fact The Trip turns out to a frequently hilarious, often quite irreverent, sly witted and even melancholic exploration of…
Review by Mads Ej ★★ 2
This is a comedy about fictional versions of Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon going on a trip in northern England, where they visit a bunch of fancy restaurants and just sit and talk. At first it was kinda cozy, but it soon became very tiresome as it didn’t really have a story and their conversations were mostly boring and meaningless. The movie had small bits of drama sprinkled in, but it was kinda in the background and it never felt important and didn’t really seem to affect the characters either. The movie had some funny lines and bits of good comedy, but they often dragged the jokes on for so long that it became cringey or just painfully unfunny. The…
