The Cure announce 2023 tour dates, return to Pine Knob in nearly 20 years

The Cure will return to Metro Detroit on June 13.

British goth rock/new wave icons The Cure are hitting the road in North America starting in May, which includes a stop at Pine Knob for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Shows of a Lost World tour launches May 10 in New Orleans and is scheduled to hit Pine Knob on June 13. This will be The Cure’s first show in Metro Detroit since 2004’s Curiosa Festival, which also featured Interpol, Muse and a host of other dark indie rock bands that filled mix CDs and iPods in the mid-2000s.

Tickets go on sale March 15 but fans must register first with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program now through March 13. The Twilight Sad are the support act. See the full tour schedule below.

The Cure haven’t released a proper studio album since 2008’s 4:13 Dream , though Robert Smith has been keeping himself busy over the past few years. Smith and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. The 63-year-old also collaborated with Chvrches and Gorillaz, and just this week remixed a Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds song.

The Cure To Bring “Songs Of A Lost World Tour” To Pine Knob Music Theatre June 13

(DETROIT – March 9, 2023) – Following their 2022 European concerts, The Cure are excited to announce the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” will be heading to North America in May, June and July, with The Twilight Sad opening at all shows. The 30-date run will stop at Pine Knob Music Theatre on Tuesday, June 13 at 7 p.m. Pine Knob Music Theatre is presented by Proud Partners United Wholesale Mortgage, Trinity Health and Ally.

Tickets will be available via 'Ticketmaster Verified Fan' on Wednesday, March 15, and will require registration to access.  Registration is open now and closes Monday, March 13 at 1 p.m. ET. Click here to register for tickets.

CLARKSTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — The season is winding down for concerts at Pine Knob and skiing will soon be the focus, but 2025 is looking to be another busy concert season as a number of artists have already announced shows for the legendary venue.

Things to do | riff fest 2024 rocks atop a loaded metro area music weekend.

But drummer Shannon Larkin promises it won’t be an exact repeat of what the heavy rock quartet did then.

“We have a grandiose idea that we hope everyone’s gonna love, and we hope we can perform it flawlessly for y’all,” says Larkin, 57, who joined in 2002 and has been with the group for its last six albums — as well as the 2012 concert album “Live & Inspired,” which was recorded at Detroit’s Fox Theatre. “We’re gonna do songs from every record in a cool way that kind of ties together, video-wise, through the whole show.

“It’s gonna be a kick-ass Godsmack, heavy-ass set, and I’m excited for it.”

Last year’s Godsmack show was part of a tour promoting the band’s then-new eighth studio album, “Lighting Up the Sky.” At the time, the band members said it would be their last full album release, though they said Godsmack would continue to tour and, essentially, rest on the laurels of a catalog that’s produced 29 Top 10 Billboard Mainstream Rock chart hits since 1998, including 13 No. 1 singles.

Now, however, Larkin says the band is no longer ruling out the possibility of some new music.

“We’re not gonna make new (albums), but that doesn’t mean we can’t put out a new single, or if a cool song comes along, we’ll go in the studio and record it,” the drummer explains. “Last year, when we said, ‘We’re not gonna make any more records,’ it kinda blew up and everyone was all like, ‘Why are you gonna quit making records?’ and whatever. It was a bigger deal than we thought.

“We want to keep playing, and usually when you tour, it comes with an album. That won’t be the case anymore, but a new song every now and then … sure, why not? I think people would like that and so would we.”
