Night Market in Stardew Valley: A Full Guide

Are you tired of regular festivals in Stardew Valley? How about a treat at the Night Market in Winter? In this guide, we’ll walk you through this yearly event in the game that lets you browse different items from dealers!

The night market with different merchant boats and an entertainment with some small vendors near Willy's Shop.

Pelican Town celebrates different seasonal festivals, from the zestful Egg Hunt to the quirkiest Spirit’s Eve. Winter is no exception, with the Festival of Ice and Feast of the Winter Star arranged within 28 days. However, one such occasion is so matchless that you won’t feel a better satisfaction after paying a visit to the place.

Enter Night Market – one of Stardew Valley’s attractions introduced in the game’s 1.3.27 version. Since ConcernedApe gives free updates, you can’t miss this unique occasion whether you’re on PC, Windows, or Mac.

This complete Night Market guide will talk about everything from different shops and items to secrets and tips and tricks.

What is the Night Market?

A parchment paper containing a message about inviting the player to the Night Market.

The Night Market is a festival that occurs from Winter 15 to 17. You’ll receive a mail informing you of the upcoming festivity, and you’ll be invited to visit the Beach every 5 PM. While other fests restrict access to the place, this one’s an exception. Moreover, you can enter shops and homes and time passes by normally.

You’ll see boats that will either offer goods or take you for a ride at the event’s beginning. However, every shop will close at 2 AM – the same time you’ll pass out.

Here are every merchant and vessel you can interact with while at the Night Market:

Fishing Submarine

The player entering the submarine boat.

Before grabbing a cup of Coffee, consider underwater fishing first since it’s the most popular among every Stardew Valley player. New fish types give hype to collectors, but it’s also crucial in completing the Master Angler achievement. If you’re a newbie, you’ll need to catch Blobfish, Spook Fish, and Midnight Squid in this area!

However, talk to the captain first and pay 1000g for the deep-sea fishing tour. It’ll take you 30 in-game minutes for descent (same thing to ascent) before he opens a trapdoor for fishing. The Submarine closes at 11 PM, but you can fish until 2 AM.

Here’s every fishing item you can get along with standard and with Curiosity Lure chances as you cast your Iridium Rod:

Magic Bait works inside the Fishing Submarine that attracts all fish types. But the most valuable item you can reel in is a Pearl, selling for 2,500g.

Desert Trader FREE Coffee

The Desert Trader giving the player a cup of Coffee.

Each night the festival is active, you can talk to the Desert Trader for a free cup of Coffee. She can only do this once per day, and her shop in Calico Desert is unavailable. However, you’ll get an excellent movement speed to run faster as usual.

Magic Shop Boat

The player buying goods at the Magic Shop Boat during Night Market.

Looking to prepare for the next three seasons while it’s cold?  The Magic Shop Boat is your go-to vendor, without additional charges (similar to Pierre’s General Store) versus JojaMart and Traveling Cart. You can find the vessel near Lupini, and you’ll get access to the following items for a price:

Tip:  Rarecrow #7 and #8 will be available for purchase once Gunther gives you the same items as a reward for donating Museum items. In pricing, Gravestone is 150g cheaper than its cost in Spirit’s Eve. The same goes for Log Section versus Carpenter’s Shop. Lastly, buy a Cone Hat at Night for its cheapest value.

Seeds of Artichoke, Garlic, and Red Cabbage will be available in Year 2.

Mermaid Boat

The player entering the Mermaid Boat

At the far right of Willy’s Docks, you’ll see a Mermaid Boat. It’s open until 12:30 AM, and entering will trigger a Mermaid Show cutscene lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes. However, you may leave anytime, even if the show’s going.

After the playtime, you can interact with clam shells that’ll produce musical notes. Not sure how it works?  Try looking at Secret Note #15 as it hints at the puzzle’s answer. But it’s not a requirement to discover the clue first for completion. The combination is 1-5-4-2-3, and you’ll get a Pearl per saved game!

The tune is reminiscent of Ginger Island’s Flute Block Puzzle and the performance in the same vessel.

Decoration Boat

The player buying furniture and other items at the Decoration Boat.

The Night Market offers different items, including visually pleasing decorative items, to make your farm stand out. And for the best part, you can make unlimited purchases, and the stock changes every night.

Some decors are for Winter, and you may also get plants that change alongside seasons. Interact with the indistinguishable blue boat to see what you’ll get:

Famous Painter Lupini

The player buying paintings from Famous Painter Lupini at the Night Market.

While Stardew Valley is art itself, you can still get multiple artworks through different means. One of them is Famous Painter Lupini – a generous and talented artist selling three paintings throughout the Night Market. However, his inventory rotates every three years, totaling nine items you’ll get!

For 1,200g each, here is every masterpiece you should purchase, along with the years and date it’s available:

Traveling Cart

The player not buying (some) items at the Traveling Cart.

There’s little to say about the Traveling Cart, except she has her pig on a lifeboat. Also, her prices are still ridiculously unfair, so there’s no reason to buy from her (except for the Wedding Ring recipe). But if you’re desperate, check here to see each of her inventory.

Shrouded Figure

The Shrouded Player giving a Farm Warp Totem to the player.

Done exploring the festivity?  Returning home would be a great idea, but every minute counts! The mysterious creature in robes can help you teleport back to your farm for only 250g. But if you don’t like paying, craft a Warp Totem: Farm instead.

Tips to Remember

Marnie talking to the player.

This beautiful event will replace your crab pots from Winter 15 to 17. However, it’ll return on the 18th alongside chests and items.

Tilling sand will still give you Clay, Snow Yam, and Winter Root. The same goes for Panning, as shimmering lights may randomly appear on the Ocean.

On the other hand, Robin won’t attend the Night Market if she’s working on one of your farm buildings. But for other NPCs, you could still talk to them about a quest, killing monsters, or delivering items.

Here’s a table of every villager you can talk to and when they’re available:

Stardew Valley: All Cheat Commands For 1.6.9 Update

New stardew valley update has a weird problem, stardew valley reveals updated patch notes and release time for big new update.

Although there are many games that have festival events , Stardew Valley 's festivals are particularly unique. As one of many Pelican Town festivals, the Night Market gives the townsfolk the chance to participate in different activities once a year. During the winter, players can look forward to this special event that lights up the night sky around the coast of Stardew Valley with colorful boats and a variety of shops.

RELATED: 10 Surprising Tips For Stardew Valley Most Players Don’t Know

Since the festival takes place at the beach, it's not possible to forage the beach and check crab pots on the days which it occurs. However, it is possible to still fish, thankfully. What kind of boat-centric festival wouldn't allow you to fish?

10 When Does It Start?

The Night Market is a festival that actually lasts for 3 days. It begins on the 15th day of Winter and ends on the 17th. During these 3 days, players can attend the festival between 5 pm and 2 am. This is the only festival in Stardew Valley in which the day actually occurs normally.

Unlike what happens during most other festivals, shops and homes are open and farm animals need to be fed as the game will not automatically consider them fed during the Night Market festival.

9 Desert Trader

The Desert Trader is an NPC in Stardew Valley . She has a shop in the Calico Desert, and does not yield items for gold. Instead of accepting gold, she will only trade her items for other items, a more traditional bartering system.

RELATED: Harvest Moon Vs. Stardew Valley: Which Is Better?

Between the 15th and the 17th of Winter, the Desert Trader cannot be found in the Calico Desert in her usual shop. She will actually be at the Night Market that day instead. The Desert Trader will offer a cup of coffee to all of those that speak to her, and players receive a maximum of a cup per night.

8 Decoration Boat

The Decoration Boat is one of the Night Market's main shops. Here, visitors can purchase decorations for their farm and home. They can buy an unlimited amount of things, these items are only aesthetic and serve no actual in-game purpose other than as decoration.

Although there are items that can be bought during other festivals, the Decoration Boat is the only vendor that sells candy decorations for the holidays.

7 Famous Painter

There is a famous painter named Lupini that comes to the Night Market, and each night he will paint something different. These paintings are purely decorative, and each one costs 1,200 gold.

However, players that miss out on one of the Night Market's nights should know that if they don't buy that painting, it won't be available again for 3 years. There are actually 9 different paints available from Lupini, they will rotate over a 3-year period, so it's best to visit each night to grab the painting to avoid having to wait so long.

6 Fishing Submarine

The Fishing Submarine attraction has a captain in it that takes players on a deep-sea fishing tour . The tour will cost 1,000 gold.

5 Magic Shop Boat

The Magic Shop Boat is a creepy and cool shop available at the Night Market. There will be different stock every night during the festival's 3 days.

4 Mermaid Boat

The Mermaid Boat is only open from 5 pm to 12:30 am. Once the player enters the boat, a mermaid will sing to them. Her performance will last 1 hour and 40 minutes, and once the show is over, there will be 5 shells that players can interact with to reproduce notes. If played in the right order, the player receives a reward .

To avoid getting the sequence wrong, players can find out the correct sequence by finding Secret Note #15. However, the tune is also heard during The Mermaid Show.

3 Traveling Cart

The Traveling Cart is a shop in Stardew Valley that shows up every Friday and Sunday. The Merchant will often sell items that are out of season, which is particularly useful because it can help players that are trying to complete the Community Center bundles.

RELATED: 10 Stardew Valley Mods That Make The Game Even Better

Update 1.3 made it so the Traveling Cart would make an appearance during the Night Market festival. The Merchant sells them the same items she usually sells, meaning players will be able to purchase items like the Wedding Ring recipe during the Night Market festival nights.

2 Possible To Complete Quests

Villagers attend the Night Market festival throughout the 3 nights in which it occurs. The first night is when there will more attendees and the number will decline further each night.

Accepting requests from the bulletin board in Pelican Town or quest missions prior to the Night Market event is no problem because players will still be able to complete them. Even if the villager that made the request is at the festival when the player wants to complete the quest, there is no problem. Initiating a conversation with them will first complete the quest and then the festival conversation will follow.

1 Leaving The Festival

Since during the Night Market, time keeps passing by, it comes in handy to have a quick way to return home before passing out. If the player passes out outside their home, they will lose 10% of their gold , losing up to 1,000 gold.

At the festival, there is actually a Shrouded Figure that can help players with this if they're running late. This Shrouded Figure allows players to teleport themselves to their farms for a mere 250g. So, getting distracted by the shops at the Night Market isn't that big of a deal when they can easily teleport home.

Unlike all the other festivals in Stardew Valley, the Night Market is spread across three separate nights.

From 5pm onwards on these days, head down to the beach. There you'll find a variety of special attractions and shops to visit.

You can collect a free cup of coffee, watch a mermaid sing, buy a painting or visit the bottom of the sea in a submarine to catch some Night Market fish .

There are four different shops for you to spend your hard earned money at in the Night Market; the Travelling Cart, Famous Painter Lupini, Decoration Boat and and the Magic Shop Boat.

Spend your time as you wish, catching fish or spending money, just remember - unlike the other festivals, time continues to move in Night Market. This means you need to keep your eye on the clock when attending the Night Market to ensure you don't faint for exhaustion.

If you need to rush back to your farm, then chat with the hooded figure standing in front of Willy's Fish Shop.

When you talk to them, they'll offer to use their Farm Warp Totem to send you home for the low price of 250g. If you can pay and need to get home in a hurry, then definitely pay for this warping service.

The Mermaid Boat is located in the far eastward end of the Night Market.

If you visit it, you'll find yourself watching a mermaid's slightly psychedelic musical performance.

Once this performance is completed, you'll discover that you can interact with the five clam shells lining the base of her stage. Each one will produce a musical tone and, to receive your prize, you need to perform the right song.

The solution for this puzzle can be found in Secret Note #15 but you don't need to own or have read the Secret Note to complete this puzzle.

Going from left to right the solution to this musical puzzle is - 1 / 4 / 5 /3 / 2

If you solve the puzzle correctly, then you'll receive a pearl from the mermaid.

Pearls can be used to make the Bridal Veil on the Sewing Machine or can be sold for 2,500g. You can only obtain one pearl from the Mermaid Boat per save file, but you can also obtain them from fish ponds , artefact troves and by deep sea fishing on the Night Market submarine.

One of the main goals in Stardew Valley is to complete the Community Center bundles or, if you’re corporate minded, you can buy a JojaMart Membership . Fishing is a great way to earn money in Stardew Valley, especially if you decide to use crab pots and ponds . Throughout the year you’ll also be able to take in a variety of festivals , including the Egg Festival , Stardew Valley Fair and the Night Market .

There are four different shops where you can spend your hard earned money at the Night Market.

One of them is the Travelling Cart, which visits Cindersnap Forest twice a week, and will be sticking to its regular selection of stock.

The other three, however, are unique to the Night Market.

The Famous Painter Lupini will be selling one painting every night, with each one costing 1,200g. The choice of painting depends on both the year and which day you visit the market on, with the paintings rotating from year to the year.

Below you'll find the various painting you can buy, and when, from Lupini:

You'll find the Magic Shop Boat to the right of Lupini and this shop also has a rotating stock. Thankfully, however, it rotates by day and not year.

Events are the heart of Stardew Valley . The range of events and holidays spread throughout the year are exciting and have a chance to be incredibly rewarding. A recent addition to the event roster is the Night Market, available every Winter.

The Night Market is full of new vendors that only appear during this time. It feels so magical, and you definitely don't want to miss out on anything. This guide will go over every vendor within the Night Market, and how to get the most out of your visit.

Updated on April 28, 2023 : The Night Market is one of the most memorable events that takes place in Stardew Valley. We've updated this guide for readability, so you can find everything you need to know about it, including what to do there and where to find the Night Market.

The Night Market takes place at the beach. The dock section of this area will transform into the market. Unlike other events, you can enter the area before the start time of the market, but you are not able to fully interact with the NPCs because they are still setting up.

The Night Market begins on the night of Winter 15. The Night Market will be available right away, with no extra steps required to unlock it.

It's open for three days (between the 15th and 17th) between 5pm and 2am. On the calendar, the market days will have a purple star on them.

Every villager will attend the Night Market; however, they are staggered between all three days .

The Free Coffee Stand

Below the holiday decoration vendor, you will see the desert merchant sitting on a red, square rug. Here, you can get some coffee! You can get one free coffee per day, totaling up to three coffees.

The Mermaid Show

The Mermaid Show boat is available from 5pm to 12:30am. This boat includes a show that lasts one hour and 40 minutes.

To get to the Mermaid Boat, head to the green boat right below the vendors on the right . This boat will connect to a series of planks that lead to the Mermaid Boat.

When you enter the boat, a cutscene will trigger with the show.

Although the show lasts a long time, you are able to leave whenever you want .

After the show is done, you can interact with the clams to play notes. If interacted with in the right order, you will be rewarded with a pearl.

The correct order to play the clams can be found in Secret Note 15. Like the fishing tour, the Mermaid Show ends before the Night Market closes.

The correct order is:

  • Far Left Clam
  • Far Right Clam
  • Middle Right Clam
  • Middle Left Clam
  • Centre Clam

To the left of the coffee vendor, you will see a large submarine. For 1,000g, you can purchase a deep-sea fishing tour here.

To go on this adventure, talk to the captain inside. After paying, the submarine will lower down into the ocean. A little bar to the right of the captain will show your depth; it will take 30 minutes of in-game time to fully descend . Once you've reached the bottom, start fishing,

While deep-sea fishing, you are only able to catch certain fish. Check out the available fish below, as well as their rarity.

Although the market officially closes at 2am, the fishing tours will end at 11pm . Be sure to start a fishing tour before this time.

Holiday Decorations Merchant

When you first stroll down the docks at the Night Market, you will see a blue boat with a moon on the left-hand side of the screen.

This is the holiday decoration vendor, who will sell you a variety of plants and candy cane-themed decorations . Check out the items and prices below.

These items will not rotate through different days of the Night Market . This means that if you do not have enough money to purchase them all, they will be there the next day.

The right side of the Night Market has three vendors, each selling rare items. The vendors include the Traveling Cart, Famous Painter Lupini, and the Magic Shop Boat.

The Traveling Cart

You may recognize the Traveling Cart, which is located at the top of the right side , with the pig floating in an inner tube. The merchant will sell her usual selection of goods .

Here, you will be able to buy fruits and vegetables that are out of season, rare furniture, and items to finish community bundles.

Prices are often heavily inflated. However, this is a good chance to buy items that you usually cannot find during Winter.

Famous Painter Lupini

Famous Painter Lupini will be standing in the center of the docks , next to a painting. You will be able to purchase rare paintings here for 1,200g.

Each day, there will be a new painting available. Additionally, the paintings will be different every year for three years. There are a total of nine different paintings available for purchase, which are listed below.

Magic Boat Shop

Finally, we have the Magic Shop Boat. This vendor is located directly to the right of Famous Painter Lupini .

Here, you can buy a variety of goods, including seeds and home decor. The stock rotates each day and is constant every year. Below, you can find all rotating items available at the Magic Boat Shop.

In addition to this rotating stock, an Iridium Fireplace (15,000g) and Rarecrow 7 and 8 (5,000g) will be available every day .

Prices for seeds are the same as Pierre's General Store. However, this is the perfect time to buy seeds out of season.

Done with the Night Market? Head to the front door of Willy's house, where a shrouded figure will teleport you home. For just 250g, he will warp you straight to your farm.

The Merchant also sells her usual stock, including the recipe for the Wedding Ring .

NM Lupini

The Night Market features a famous painter named Lupini . You’ll see the artist standing on the dock and displaying a painting beside him. Decoration Boat

NM DecorationsBoat

Walking a little further to the left from the Magic Shop Boat, you’ll get to the Decoration Boat. The vendor specializes in seasonal decorations that you put outdoors, but there are also some that you can display inside your house. Here are the items you can buy from the Decoration Boat:

Shops aren’t the only attractions you’ll see at this festival. You can also watch a boat show, get freebies, and ride a submarine that lets you catch some of the rarest fish ever. These attractions open at 5:00 PM and close at 2:00 AM , except for the Fishing Submarine and the Mermaid Boat.

Desert Trader

NM DesertTrader

The Desert Trader can be located just a few steps from the Decoration Boat. You’ll find her sitting on a rug beside a coffee maker machine. The trader will not sell you coffee. Instead, she will give you one cup of coffee – for free!

Fishing Submarine

NM Sub

To the left of the Desert Trader is the Fishing Submarine. Inside the Submarine, a Captain’ll ask you if you want to take a fishing tour while inside his ship. The Captain isn’t as generous as the Desert Trader, though, as one fishing tour costs 1,000 Gold .

The Submarine will plunge deep into the ocean while you wait for one and a half hours of in-game minutes. After that, a hatch will open up in the ship’s center. Down there, you can fish some deep-sea creatures exclusive to this event. The table below lists all the fish and items you can catch while underwater:

Mermaid Boat

NM MermaidBoat

The Mermaid Boat is one of the main attractions of the festival. It features a mermaid singing and putting on a spectacular show for whoever enters the boat.

When you enter the boat, the mermaid will start singing. If you wait for the show to finish, you can click the clam shells on the stage and notice that each clamshell will produce a sound.

NM MermaidShow

At first, you might think that the Mermaid Show only aims to entertain the player. But if you could dig out Secret Note # 15 , you’ll discover a puzzle you can solve here.

To solve this puzzle, interact with the clam shells in this order: 1-5-4-2-3 (from left to right). If you successfully play the correct musical notes, you’ll obtain a Pearl.

Shrouded Figure

NM Shrouded

The Night Market is packed with scenic spots and features that will eat up your time in Stardew Valley. Should you forget to bring a Warp Totem to the Festival, you can pass out when the clock strikes at 2 AM.

Fortunately, there’s a man wrapped in a dark blue garment called the Shrouded Figure at this festival. He is found in the center of the docks with a levitating Warp Totem, which signifies he can transport you home. Talk to the Shrouded Figure; he can magically warp you back to your farm for 250 gold .
