Oakland has a lot of great concerts coming up in 2022. See popular emo punk band, My Chemical Romance live at Oakland Arena on Wednesday, October 5. Tickets available now.

What started as an underground emo/goth band from New Jersey, My Chemical Romance released their debut album “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love”   in early 2002. The debut album attracted a lot of attention and led to a record deal with Reprise Records and the release of their first Platinum Album, “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge”. The Grammy-nominated group has sold almost 10 million albums and after an extended break up from 2013 to 2017, they are back on the road for a reunion tour. My Chemical Romance will be making a stop in the San Francisco Bay Area at Oakland Arena on Wednesday, October 5.

My Chemical Romance Adds Tour Dates, Additional Tickets to Sold-Out Shows

My Chemical Romance is adding dates to their reunion tour. On Wednesday (March 9), the band announced an additional 14 shows for the upcoming tour.  The reunion tour was originally scheduled for fall 2020 before it was rescheduled to 2021 . In April 2021, the band once again postponed their dates until 2022 due to the pandemic.

The North American tour dates will now kick off with a new show on Aug. 20 at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. From there, the new dates will include stops in Texas, Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Oregon. My Chemical Romance will also play three additional shows in New York including a second night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and a show at the new UBS Arena in Belmont Park.

The band will also add two Canadian dates – a Sept. 2 at Centre Bell in Montreal and a second Toronto show on Sept. 4. On the West Coast, My Chemical Romance has also added a fifth show at The Forum in Los Angeles.

In addition to 14 new arena shows, the group released additional tickets for their existing and previously sold-out North American shows.  

The group will also have a number of acts joining them on the road as support; in alphabetical order: Badflower, Devil Master, Dilly Dally, GHÖSH, Kimya Dawson, Meg Myers, Midtown, Nothing, Shannon and the Clams, Soul Glo, Surfbort, Taking Back Sunday, The Bouncing Souls, The Homeless Gospel Choir, The Lemon Twigs, Thursday, Turnstile, Waterparks, Youth Code.  

Tickets for the new shows go on sale Friday at 12pm local time. Check out the full list of dates below with new dates bolded.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE Announces Summer/Fall 2021 North American Tour

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE has announced the rescheduled dates for its North American tour. The trek was originally slated to kick off on September 9 in Detroit, Michigan and end on October 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada and was supposed to include a headlining appearance at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California.

Earlier today, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE released the following statement via social media:

"As a band, we are deeply aware of the profound problems and crucial issues the world is facing right now. These issues are all life-changing, and we have them in the forefront of our minds on a regular basis. All of our focus should be on making the world better in every way we can.

"We would never want to distract from the challenges we are facing right now, but we feel it is the right thing to let people know that we have rescheduled our shows, so that we can offer people a refund on tickets in these difficult financial times.

"All tickets will be honored for the new dates. If you are unable to attend, refunds are available at your point of purchase.

"It is a long time away, and there is so much for all of us to do to make the world a better place in the interim. We cannot wait to play for you. Take care of each other and yourselves. We will see you soon."

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE played its first concert in seven years on December 20 in Los Angeles.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE broke up in 2013, three years after the release of its fourth studio album, "Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys" . Since then, vocalist Gerard Way released his debut solo album, 2014's "Hesitant Alien" , and several standalone singles. He also saw his award-winning comic book "The Umbrella Academy" adapted into a Netflix series. In November, it was revealed that Way would be scoring Kevin Smith 's upcoming "Clerks" sequel.

Way 's bandmates also pursued various solo projects. Guitarist Frank Iero released a pair of solo albums, and bassist Mikey Way formed a group called ELECTRIC CENTURY . Guitarist Ray Toro briefly toured with a project called REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT , and released a solo recording in tribute to a transgender teen who committed suicide.

Reunion rumors first arose in 2016, when the group posted a cryptic video on social media. It turned out to be for a 10th anniversary reissue of the band's 2006 album "The Black Parade" . The band stated at the time, "We are not touring and there is no reunion planned."

Live Shots: My Chemical Romance reunion tour summoned nostalgia—and ache

Oakland is still not OK (we promise).

As My Chemical Romance wraps up the band’s first tour since its breakup in 2013, it’s hard not to think back to the Bay Area stop at Oakland Arena on October 5. As on most autumn nights in the Bay, the sun set early and the air was cold, but that did little to dim smiles on the eager faces swarming outside of the venue, their owners more than ready to see the New Jersey emo quartet take the stage.

Many of the MCR fans dressed up in honor of the era in which they first discovered the band. There were colorful bandit outfits celebrating 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.  Attendees sported marching band attire in tribute to 2006’s The Black Parade.  There were even a few goth ballerinas numbers in homage to the band’s breakout album  Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, the release which transformed the scruffy Jersey punks into TRL sweethearts, and had them rubbing elbows with Carson Daly.

Few bands can disappear for nearly a decade and come back with the welcome reception that was on display that night. Fans sang along as frontman Gerard Way belted out deep cuts like “Skylines and Turnstiles” from the band’s first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.  The show, which was initially set to take place in October 2020, was one of the many concerts rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After a two-year wait, it was easy to spot the anticipation fans felt for My Chem’s reunion. Thousands chanted “MCR, MCR, MCR!” before Gerard, bassist Mikey Way, lead guitarist Ray Toro, and rhythm guitarist Frank Iero even set foot on stage.

The show kicked off with a new song, “ The Foundations of Decay ,” as a red curtain dropped, revealing a set design of destroyed buildings and urban ruin. “Will you welcome your extinction?” the song’s lyrics ask, describing a man in a world of disarray, doing nothing to stop the anguish and pain happening around him. Concluding with “Get up, coward,” it offers a clear message: the world is in shambles, and the only way to get out of it is to keep going. Perhaps, that’s why the band used it to welcome their fans to the show—a way to acknowledge the harshness the world has experienced in recent years, before taking the audience through a catalogue’s worth of concept albums.

These are songs, now full of nostalgia, that allow teens who are now adults to feel as though they are a part of a different world. A world in which Way sings of creating a place for “the broken, the beaten, and the damned” in “Welcome to the Black Parade,” whose first three notes were all fans needed before greeting it with a deafening cheer. In this reality, it is acceptable to not put on a brave face. A metaphorical space turned to flesh as the thousands in attendance chanted in affirmation of the chorus of “I’m Not Okay (I Promise.)”

SHOW REVIEW: My Chemical Romance Reunion Like No Other

On Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, My Chemical Romance along with special guests Taking Back Sunday and Surfbort stopped by the Oakland Arena in Oakland, CA for a reunion tour like no other.

To prepare for My Chemical Romance's arrival to the stage, on the projector screen, a message to the fans was being projected stating, "Look after each other, if someone falls, help them up. "Security are here to help if you need it. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT !".

Before My Chemical Romance came out, the atmosphere was HEAVY. Heavy in a good way and all of a sudden, the lights started to flicker, the sound was also getting more intense by the minute. The sounds of what sounded like a helicopter getting closer and closer. It was quite the build up but a build up is needed for such a reunion like this, almost 10 years in the making.

The band came out to screams and heavy applause from the crowd. It was moment many have been waiting for and they wouldn't hold back. 

It's not usual for a band to switch their setlist while on tour but My Chemical Romance is no stranger to switching it up! On a tour where they switch the songs for every venue, there is one that always sticks from venue to venue and that's the opening song. The band started the set with their newest song released this year titled, "The Foundations of Decay".

The show was now off to the races. 

Gerard Way, frontman of the group, appeared to be utilizing pedals to change his voice throughout the performance. A unique and intriguing effect for the show! I got a few giggles from it a few times. 

The band played various songs scattered throughout their collection but I am sure they had to make sure they were performing the hit songs. Coming in at the 10th song, was "Welcome to the Black Parade", their biggest hit to date, no doubt. The fans as expected were not staying still for this one! After this hit, they went straight into another with "Teenagers". 

After Teenagers, Gerard told the crowd, "There is a lot of flesh out there". Also stating that it was more than usual. He then began to wave to the crowd on all sides and yell "Hi!" and even change his voice while yelling it too! Almost sounded like a deep, gurgled evil sound if you ask me!

The band continued the set with songs such as "I'm Not Okay", "Famous Last Words" and finishing off with "Sleep".

But there was more.

The band played an encore of songs such as "Helena", sang with the crowd happy birthday to their bodyguard, "Big Worm" and finished off with "The Kids From Yesterday" which so happened to be the last song I listened to before arriving to the arena. Strange!

If this show was any indication, it's that there are still tons and tons of fans wanting more. Fans like myself are hoping for more down the line and crossing our fingers that is the case.

My Chemical Romance Embraces Oakland Arena Crowd on Reunion Tour

Wednesday night in Oakland’s Arena, we touch down to our deepest heartfelt feelings to witness a packed night listening to My Chemical Romance live, back on tour and reunited after years apart.

A red curtain delicately hung as the backdrop as the band paraded onstage. Before the third song began, that curtain tumbled in an explosion of fog and smoke, revealing a wreckage and war zone of torn up sky scrapers as fog peeled through each layer of the scene.

Every hand was up, every body danced, and every person screamed as their voices rang loudly in the arena.

Few words were spoken by the members of the band that night, as they focused mainly on the music and the power that held within the lines they performed.

Near the end of the night, however, Gerard’s voice echoed through the arena as he growled, “I see a lot of flesh…a lot more flesh than usual. It’s fleshy out there tonight.”

The crowd roared in response.

Gerard Way moved freely onstage, as if every fiber in his being had been waiting for years to be onstage again…. years pent up within him being released at last. We heard variations of each track that felt unique to us and only us that night. His band mates effortlessly showcased their practiced performance with ease.

My Chemical Romance have announced their rescheduled tour dates, which were pushed to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The band had been set to play a string of reunion shows in 2020, before the coronavirus reached the U.S.

The new tour kicks off September 8th, 2021, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, and ends with a four-night residency at the Forum in Los Angeles on October 11th, 12th, 14th, and 17th. MCR also have rescheduled dates for Toronto; Brooklyn; Boston; Detroit; St. Paul, Minnesota; Chicago; Atlanta; Newark, New Jersey; Sunrise, Florida; Houston; Dallas; Denver; Tacoma, Washington; Oakland; and Las Vegas. All issued tickets will be honored for the 2021 shows.

In addition to 14 new arena shows, the group have released additional tickets for their already existing and previously sold out North American shows. The 14 new shows include 10 new cities across the states, as well as additional evenings in Brooklyn, NY at Barclays Arena, Toronto, ON at Scotiabank Arena, Boston, MA at TD Garden, as well as a 5th show at The Forum in Los Angeles, CA.

My Chemical Romance Reveal Opening Acts for Rescheduled 2022 Reunion Tour Dates

They'll finally get a chance to "carry on" as My Chemical Romance 's pandemic-delayed reunion tour is finally happening stateside. The band just revealed the full rescheduled itinerary for North America after having to continually push back the shows due to COVID-19's impact on the touring industry.

The tour will now officially get underway Aug. 20 in Oklahoma City, with dates running through Oct. 29 which is the final scheduled night of the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. The group has also added 14 new shows in 10 cities to the itinerary. See all cities, dates and venues listed below. Tickets for the new dates will go on sale this Friday (March 11) at 12N local time.

In addition, My Chemical Romance have filled the run with a variety of opening acts, including the reunited Midtown, Badflower, Turnstile, Taking Back Sunday, The Bouncing Souls, Thursday, Kimya Dawson, Meg Myers, Devil Master, Dilly Dally, Ghosh, Nothing, Shannon and the Clams, Soul Glo, Surfbort, The Homeless Gospel Choir, The Lemon Twigs, Waterparks and Youth Code all playing select dates.

My Chemical Romance announced their plans to reunite in the fall of 2019, though the seeds of a potential reunion were planted as far back as 2017.  "In 2017, we got in a room together to see what would happen," MCR wrote on Twitter in December of 2019 . "A couple more jam sessions and 39 days of rehearsals later, we’re ready to show you what we’ve learned. See you soon."

The band played their first reunion show at the Shrine Expo Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Dec. 20, 2019, reportedly grossing nearly $1.5 million for the band. The group then started announcing more and more tour dates for 2020, but the pandemic wiped out those plans.

The group will play in the U.K. and Europe this May and June, before focusing on the U.S. this fall. See all of their scheduled dates and get ticketing info here .

My Chemical Romance Announce U.S. Tour Dates

My Chemical Romance have finally given us what we've been asking for (demanding?) and announced U.S. tour dates.

MCR announced the arena tour with an epic, era-spanning video premiere on YouTube.

The tour begins in Detroit, Mich. Sept. 9 and ends in Las Vegas, Nev. Oct. 11, but you can scroll through all the dates toward the bottom of this post and see if they'll be playing in a city near you.

My Chem announced their return show at the end of October and tickets sold out almost instantly, sending some fans who were worried this might be their only chance to see the band into a panic.

Their comeback show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Calif. on Dec. 20, broke records for the venue as it grossed  just shy of $1.5 million .

They have since announced a handful of shows around the world including Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Europe, which you can also see below.

Along with the tour, My Chem announced they'll be headlining Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, Calif. They will play Saturday night (Oct. 10) in between Metallica's Friday (Oct. 9) and Sunday night (Oct. 11) headlining performances. Get tickets for that here .
