Our review of Adam Sandler's latest: The awkward Jewish middle-school movie we needed

Adam Sandler at SNHU Arena - My Review

October 24, 2022

I have never seen Adam Sandler perform. I have interviewed him, ran into him at NHMS a few years back, but I've always been a fan. I haven't loved every movie he's been in - but thats because the dudes been in a thousand movies - and there's no way you're gonna like em all!

I know he's not some peoples cup of tea, but I like the guy. He doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. He's a guy who just wants to make people laugh.

Watched the films, SNL and his rare talk show appearances, and seen the Hollywood pics of him walking around in baggy shorts and a tshirts, looking like a "schlubb" (thats a Mr Deeds reference. If you know, then you know.). And btw- screw Hollywood. I LOVE that he dresses like that, you know why? Because he's got about a BILLION reasons to tell them to kiss his ass...

But I digress- lets get to the SNHU Show -

adam sandler live tour reviews

I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect what we got.

Sandler was hilarious! He did everything from straight stand up, to funny songs, to lots of touching moments where he talked about home and paid respect to his Dad, and Chris Farley.

Oh yeah, and he got raunchy too!

I've never heard funnier bit about a dude eating out......a balloon. That's right, a balloon. Sound stupid? It was, but i thought it was hilarious!

adam sandler live tour reviews

I've never seen a comedy show that was funny, both smart and dumb, silly, raunchy, and sincere - all wrapped up in one. He sang a ton of short songs with silly and surprising outcomes and he peppered the entire night with Manchester references from his childhood. He played with the audience, responded to shouts from them, and just casually rolled through an hour+ set that just made you feel good.

He bought his first guitar at Ted Herberts. His harmonica at Daddy's Junkie Music. He worked at The Puritan, and on and on - and it was pretty cool to hear it all from one of the most successful guys in Hollywood- ESPECIALLY since he doesn't ACT like one of the most successful guys in Hollywood.

You could tell he was nervous at the start (Rob Schnieder and Dan Patrick BOTH said Adam was as nervous as they had ever seen him because he has NEVER played his hometown), but he found the groove and did a great show. I would be lying if I said the songs about his Dad and Chris Farley didn't get to me. His Mom and many family members were there that night - and he had the crowd sing Happy Birthday to his Mom as well -

I told ya - the guy is a good dude....

And the word that I kept coming back to all night while watching him was - genuine. He seems like just a genuine good dude. A guy who hasnt forgotten his roots (yeah, I know he's lived in NY and CA longer- but NH is the dirt he's front and he knows it). I never expected to laugh AND be moved by his show- but I was. And when it was over, from what I could tell - people seemed to really dig it!

Heres Adam's post from Instagram about the show -

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adam Sandler (@adamsandler)

Sandlers show was the perfect mixture of silly, raunchy and sweetness from a guy who is unlike any other comedian I've ever seen.

I was thoroughly impressed.

And when I was leaving the arena- I saw Adam getting into the limo/truck after the show- so I yelled over to him - "Great show Adam!" - and he said "Thanks buddy I appreciate it!".

So- I guess I can say "I talked to Adam Sandler" Saturday night, right? I mean - just because I was yelling through a fence in the upper parking lot - that doesn't matter does it??? heh heh heh..

I think we're friends now....

Yeah.....that's how I see it.

Great show, Adam. Thanks for bringing it home-

Sandler is staying busy with a multitude of projects, which includes starring opposite Jennifer Aniston in Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2 , released in March. More recently, he joined his daughters Sunny Sandler and Sadie Sandler, along with wife, Jackie Sandler, in the coming-of-age comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah , which hit Netflix last month and currently holds an impressive 92 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , My Bat Mitzvah director Sammi Cohen praised Sandler for the support he provided to everyone involved with the film.

“He’s hilarious, and he’s always making everything funnier,” Cohen said. “He really gave everyone space to do their thing, but when people needed support, he was there. He’s wearing multiple hats — producing, acting, being an actual dad. It’s almost inhuman. Nothing suffers — he does it all 110 percent.”

Adam Sandler Will Spend This Autumn Telling You How Much He’s Missed You

By Kory Grow

Adam Sandler has missed you. He’ll show you how much he’s longed for you this fall on a comedy tour he’s dubbed the I Missed You Tour. The tour features a “surprise guest” and kicks off in Vancouver next month; dates run through December. (Caveat: He’ll only tell some of you how much he’s missed you since the tour is “for mature audiences only,” with maturity apparently beginning at age 16. Sorry, 15-year-olds.)

Tickets go on sale to the general public at noon local time on Friday via Ticketmaster, but Live Nation is launching a presale on Thursday at the same time.

The comedian may have been looking for work, like a comedy tour he’s responsible for himself, since he’s spent part of the summer on picket lines as part of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Nevertheless, some movies that he made prior to the acting and writing strikes have been coming out.

The I Missed You tour comes on the heels of his best-reviewed film, this month’s Netflix comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” and sold-out stand-up shows from earlier this year.

Adam Sandler’s ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah’ director defends him for casting daughters amid nepo-baby debate

Adam Sandler sparked a nepo-baby debate for casting daughters Sunny and Sadie in ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.’ But it’s on brand, director says.

Sept. 1, 2023

The comedy icon’s tour kicks off at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Oct. 12 and will hit Seattle, Portland, Ore., Las Vegas and the Midwest before wrapping in Denver on Dec. 12, according to promoter and show producer Live Nation. The tour also promises a surprise guest. (Earlier this year, his “Grown Ups” co-stars Kevin James, Rob Schneider and David Spade joined him on stage.)

The “Murder Mystery” and “Uncut Gems” actor will be making two Southern California stops in October: First, at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert on Oct. 2; second, at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Oct. 23.

He’s also playing shows at the SAP Center in San Jose on Oct. 18 and Save Mart Center on Oct. 20 in Fresno.

The presale for the tour begins Thursday and the general sale begins Friday on Ticketmaster.

Review: ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah’ is a sweet take on rites, fights and tween drama

Adam Sandler and his real-life family — including breakout Sunny Sandler — are charming in a comedy about feuding girls approaching their big days.

Aug. 25, 2023

The 57-year-old began his career on the stand-up circuit before landing a five-year gig on “Saturday Night Live” in the early 1990s. From there, the comic — known for his brash, man-child shtick and athleisure affinity — catapulted to superstardom with the hit comedies “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore,” “The Water Boy” and “The Wedding Singer.”

The actor has taken on more dramatic fare over the last decade, starring in “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “Uncut Gems” — for which he earned a Screen Actors Guild nomination — and “Hustle.”

Sandler toured earlier this year under the Adam Sandler Live! marquee and extended that tour with seven shows in April . Before that, the comedian hit the road for his 100% Fresher tour in 2019. That live show, which streamed on Netflix, earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for writing for a variety special.

Adam Sandler and Josh Safdie Created the ‘Worst Venue Ever’ for Love You

Portrait of Fran Hoepfner

“Before we did this show, I did a set at the Hayworth in L.A. with no monitors, no nothing,” Adam Sandler said during the premiere of his new stand-up special, Love You , at New York’s Paris Theater. The special’s composer and co-writer, Dan Bulla, who also writes for SNL , wasn’t there: “I just went up there with a guitar and did it all. The jokes are nice when they’re just jokes.” The idea of doing a no-frills performance by necessity became the basis for the special, Josh Safdie said during the Q&A of his first foray into directing comedy specials: “We’ll make it the worst venue ever: a liminal space you feel like you know, but you don’t know.” Welcome to the wonderful world of Love You , in which the comedian, with the help of Safdie and producer Ronald Bronstein, concocts a special full of chaos in which the show literally has to go on.

To make it believable, Safdie said, “We had to sell that the monitors didn’t work, so we built a venue where that would make sense.” But Love You ’s venue does actually exist — it’s no set — as a typically functional space known as the Nocturne Theatre in Glendale, California. The spot had been recently bought by a local couple for small theater productions. Safdie and production designer Sam Lisenco basically trashed the place, adding carpeting and upending a two-liter bottle of Coke to give the whole place an off-putting odor (and presumably sticky floors). “We wanted to make it look like it’d been there for 60 years,” Safdie added. “It had a real vibe. John Turturro said it was like hanging out his friend’s basement and laughing at his funniest friend.”

Love You , which runs a little over 70 minutes, had to be cut down from more than three hours of footage from six shows performed at this purposefully ramshackle spot where the mayhem could come at any moment. While Safdie had control over some of the internal chaos — a collapsing stage, busted monitors — there’s a brief audience interruption during the show that is 100 percent real.

“He didn’t know these things were coming, but when the fight happened, part of him was probably thinking, Was Josh behind this ?” Safdie said.

Sandler shook his head. “No, it felt like real energy. I was fucking scared for everyone,” he said with a laugh.

Sandler’s 2018 special 100% Fresh combined tour footage from various venues of varying sizes, but Love You remains set in that dingy little theater with an intimate audience of what looks like about 75 people. A cold open depicts Sandler arriving a little late, windshield busted on his car, to a swarm of autograph seekers, including Mitchell Wenig , whom audiences may remember as one of Uncut Gems ’s goons. It’s the first sign that things are not exactly as they seem. Once Sandler makes it in the building, there are guys and distractions everywhere. Part of what the mostly planned havoc shows is that it’s the comedian’s job to go out and be funny, regardless of where they are, what’s happening, and who’s in the audience. That Sandler titles the work Love You suggests that there’s a way to move through these difficulties with frustration and anger — of which there’s plenty — but mostly with affection. Does the chaos make it more fun for a comedian up onstage? As Sandler told Vulture on the red carpet, “Only when you get out of it okay!”

Love You streams on Netflix starting August 27.

The Simpsons has always been animated, and now a concept trailer has provided look at how a live-action movie adaptation might appear. Created with the assistance of AI, the concept trailer assembles a star-studded cast to imagine the film, including comedy icon Adam Sandler as the Simpson family patriarch.

The trailer was posted to YouTube by Multiverse of AI . It features narration with Adam Sandler's voice as generated by AI , with the actor imagined to be introducing the rest of his family as Homer Simpson. Other cast members featured in the video include Kristen Wiig as Marge Simpson, Jacob Tremblay as Bart Simpson, and Mckenna Grace as Lisa Simpson . The full trailer can be watched below.

The Simpsons Creator Comments on the Series Always Predicting the Future

Matt Groening addresses the claims that The Simpsons has predicted the future time and time again.

Along with the family, the concept trailer imagines several other characters from Springfield in live-action from with big-name actors in the roles. This includes Will Ferrell as Ned Flanders, Simon Pegg as Lenny Leonard, Jordan Peele as Carl Carlson, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Burns, Neil Patrick Harris as Smithers, Ben Stiller as Moe, John C. Reilly as Barney Gumble, Zach Galifianakis as Chief Clancy Wiggum, Steve Carell as Principal Seymour Skinner, Kumail Nanjiani as Apu, Gaten Matarazzo as Milhouse Van Houten, Danny McBride as Otto Mann, Bill Hader as Reverend Lovejoy, and Keegan Michael Key as Dr. Julius Hibbert.

Will a Live-Action Simpsons Movie Ever Happen?

In reality, there are no known plans at this time to take the franchise into live-action territory, though the animated series is still running strong. The show's 36th season will be debuting on Fox this fall, as the series remains just as popular as it's ever been. It's also possible that a second animated feature film could end up happening soon, as it was teased prior to the release of Inside Out 2 that the Disney and Pixar movie's potential success could help get The Simpsons Movie 2 greenlit . Inside Out 2 has since become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

The Simpsons Bringing Back Major Guest Star 33 Years After Character's Introduction

A fan favorite guest star from the early years of The Simpsons is making a return in an upcoming episode.

"I think it's a bigger issue than The Simpsons ," co-showrunner Al Jean told Screen Rant . "On several levels, we're really hoping for Inside Out 2 to do great this summer. I want to see the animation business completely returned to what it was before the pandemic. And then, I think if that was the case, it would make sense to do The Simpsons theatrically. But I understand that it's an issue above me about, 'Where would you release it? And how would you release it?'"

Jean added, "And we are, with the shorts and other things, streaming on Disney+, so I love seeing animated movies in theaters. I loved The Boy and the Heron that just won the Oscar, I'll always go see the Miyazaki movies that come out. So, I really am all for animation being fully theatrical, so I hope that's where it goes."

Classic episodes of The Simpsons are streaming on Disney+.

Adam Sandler Shares the ‘Worst Part’ About Appearing on Talk Shows: ‘I’ve Always Got It on My Mind’

The comedian also gave new details about “Happy Gilmore 2,” including that Travis Kelce’s cameo is actually happening

"The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" (NBC)

Adam Sandler shared the “worst part” about appearing on live talk shows is figuring out how to get situated in his seat.

“I’ve just always got it on my mind. I’m like if I lean this way, the guts,” Sandler told Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday night. Fallon was asking Sandler how his family was doing when the actor-comedian lost focus.

“It’s always great to see ya, welcome back to the ‘Tonight Show.’ How’s everyone doing? How’s the fam?” Fallon inquired.

“Well, everybody’s all right. I’m just a … Uh, yeah,” Sandler said before abruptly breaking away from the convo to ponder how he was sitting.

happy-gilmore-adam-sandlerjpeg

“You know what the worst part of doing a show, is whenever you sit in a chair and your gut’s hanging over. I literally haven’t figured out the right way to sit. Goddamnit, all right. F—k, all right,” Sandler explained. When Fallon confirmed that he “looks good” from his point of view, Sandler finally shared that his family is doing well.

After opening up about his daughter, Sadie Sandler, going to college and remembering his early beginnings busking as a rising comic, Sandler shared new details about “Happy Gilmore 2,” including a confirmation that Travis Kelce’s cameo in the flick is actually happening.

“So many of the golfers are being nice and are going to be a part of it and all,” Sandler said before teasing Kelce’s role. “Travis, he mentioned it, and so we have a nice somethin’ for Travis. He’s going to come by. He’s, very nice guy. You guys would love ’em in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Checking in on how prepared Sandler is to reprise his character, Fallon then asked if he’s practiced Happy Gilmore’s iconic golf swing from the film. The actor-comedian has, but he took a bit a tumble while doing so.

“I did it, you know I have to practice. You know you have to hop skip and a hit, and I did it recently,” Sandler explained. It seems simple, and I tried it out and I fell. I laid there for a while and somebody brought me a lemonade, and I just kind of laid down on the ground drinking the lemonade for a while. But I’ll be ready — when it’s time to shoot, I’m a gamer.”

For now, there are no details about a release date for “Happy Gilmore 2,” but Sandler said he and his writing partner Tim Hurley are overjoyed with the progress of the script so far.

“It’s good,” Sandler said. “We worked hard on the script, man. We didn’t want to let anyone down … Me and my buddy Tim Herlihy, we came up with the idea, we’re really excited about it; we wrote our asses off.”

Adam Sandler reveals the ‘worst part’ of talk show interviews

Adam Sandler has revealed why being interviewed on chat shows makes him uncomfortable.

The Just Go With It actor, 57, who is set to reprise his titular role in the upcoming sequel to Happy Gilmore , shared the “worst part” of live interviews during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (20 August).

Sandler admitted he struggles to get settled in chat show chairs in a comfortable position, as he often feels self conscious of his body if he’s sat at a certain angle.

The actor admitted his mind was still preoccupied with his posture and how his body looked on camera as he was welcomed by Fallon onto the show.

“You know what, the worst part of doing a show is whenever you sit in a chair and your gut’s hanging over,” Sandler said.

“I literally haven’t figured out the right way to sit. Goddamnit, all right.”

He added: “I’ve just always got it on my mind. I’m like if I lean this way, the guts.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Sandler divulged further details of the forthcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, which will include a cameo from Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce .

“He has mentioned it and so we have a nice something for Travis. He is going to come by,” said Sandler, who will reprise his role as Gilmore in the sequel . In the original film, he played an ice hockey player with anger management issues who realises he can channel that anger towards major pro golf wins.

Sandler added that the footballer is a “very nice guy,” saying: “You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Sandler confirmed that production of the sports comedy sequel will begin in a “couple [of] weeks” and that he and screenwriter Tim Herlihy, who also co-wrote the original film, are “continuing to try to make it a movie that you guys will like”.

Kelce, who is a keen golf player, previously mentioned the possibility of acting in the Happy Gilmore sequel during a May episode of his podcast New Heights.

“I’m looking for movie deals,” he said. “I’ll do anything in the movie. I’ll be a part of it any way I possibly can.”
