PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 07: Adam Sandler speaks onstage during Netflix's "Hustle" Philadelphia special screening at Philadelphia Film Center on June 07, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Lisa Lake/Getty Images for Netflix)

Ever since director-writer Paul Thomas Anderson’s paranoid drama “Punch Drunk Love” in 2002, beloved comedian-actor Adam Sandler has balanced his cinematic life between cheerfully dippy comic fare (“50 First Dates,” “Murder Mystery”), starkly serious roles in often dire films (“The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” “Uncut Gems”) and movies that balance the light and the dark such as 2022’s basketball dramedy “Hustle.”

Popular on Variety

Though the aging process (personally, professionally) was a large part of his stand-up and musical conversation, Sander kept the proceedings cleverly unpredictable. Throughout the nearly two-hour-long set, Sandler tendered a balancing act between long, hypnotically repetitive, juvenile stories about Botox-ing his penis for youthful effect, then smartly short, absurdist songs with head-scratching, laugh-out-loud, abrupt-ending finales that somehow, weirdly, related to real-life.

That reality was played out in a 12-minute song that touched on the universality of knowing “a bulldog in a Halloween costume” looking for dignity; “a tall guy with a short wife,” with everyone wondering how that physical relationship plays out; and “a grandma in yoga pants” looking like an ice cream cone. Hewing closer to his own life, of being married for 25 years (accompanied by oral sex jibes) with two (annoying, from his recall) teens, the (hopefully) fictional tales of daughters, Sadie and Sunny, portrays the raw, but rich distance of the 2020s generation gap. In the continuing tales of Sandler vs. Gen Z, his children force their father to listen to their endless piano lessons’ attempts at “Bohemian Rhapsody” while their teen friends pretend to not know who Sandler is — until they need to know.

Musical numbers that allow Sandler to riff hard and solo aplenty are rife throughout the set — he’s a dexterous guitarist — and the comedian takes his time through various genres (mock Billy Joel bits, power ballads, Irish-y jigs, country break-up ballads) that always have curiously preposterous and disconnected conclusions. One such track, “Station 69,” involves space travel and the sex act named by the title with astronaut helmet-wearing Rob Schneider, Sandler’s longtime “SNL” friend, film collaborator and the night’s opening act. While that “69” tune was goofy, what followed was sublimely serious: Sander playing spiky guitar behind Schneider power-belting Elvis Presley’s samba-operatic “It’s Now or Never” without a hint of humor or imitation.

After that impressive musical moment, Sandler’s set came to a close with two back-to-back songs that mixed teary heartfelt sentiment with warm, sappy humor in dedication to his bestie, the late comic actor Chris Farley (“Farley”), and his family for putting up with being made the butt of his jokes (“Grow Old with You”), a feeling he shared with the older fans in the crowd who’ve been giggling at his silliness since 1990-something.

While he should never give up his acting day job, Sandler would be well-served making standup a steadier part of his repertoire, if Friday’s comic interaction with the Jersey casino crowd was any indication.

The adam sandler stand up experience: my review of the sandman live.

By Olivia Richman : more posts

Adam Sandler

It’s not every day you get to see the Sandman himself — especially not close enough where he could accidentally spit on you while making one of his wacky voices. But I had the opportunity to do just that sans spit when I caught Adam Sandler’s stand up last week.

Even though Sandler lives in Los Angeles somewhere, it still felt quite surreal that he was suddenly popping up to make a surprise appearance at a small comedy club, the Dynasty Typewriter, near Downtown Los Angeles. Drive two miles to go see Adam Sandler? Count me in!

Even before the show started, my friend and I were getting a small chuckle at his tagline for the show, which proudly described him as Smitty from the Cosby Show. Despite being the King of Comedy, Sandler had used his on-screen debut in a comical way to help people recognize him instead of his iconic comedy films or recent dramas. As if people would drive by the sign and think, “Adam Sandler? Who is that shmuck? Oh yeah, Smitty! Love that guy!”

But honestly, this really set the scene for the rest of the night.

adam sandler live tour reviews

Adam Sandler has become one of the most well-known comedians of all time. He famously got his big break on Saturday Night Live and went on to produce and star in the most popular comedy movies of the 90s and early 2000s. It’s hard to forget him singing “Somebody Kill Me Please” in the Wedding Singer or swimming in a speedo at top speed in Don’t Mess With the Zohan . I personally can’t get enough of his performance in Uncut Gems, one of the most intense films I’ve ever sat through. Three times in theaters.

But Sandler actually got his start as a stand up comic. He did his first open mic at 17 years old, debuting in Boston, Massachusetts. Dennis Miller saw him performing stand up in Los Angeles and recommended him to Lorne Michaels, which led to him becoming a writer on Saturday Night Live in 1990. He came up with a variety of boisterous, goofy-voiced characters like Canteen Boy and Opera Man. He performed the “Hanukkah Song.”

Now, at the Dynasty Typewriter, Sandler was going back to his roots.

While Sandler is currently filming a handful of new movies, including one about Bat Mitzvahs you’re not invited to, he also decided to step away from Hollywood to do some stand up — the thing that got him noticed to begin with.

What really stood out to me about Sandler’s performance was his likeability. He could be heard yelling for production to “hurry up” from behind the curtains as it started to creep past the alleged start time. He came out smiling (and coughing), wearing some basketball shorts and a fugly sweater. He immediately started telling a story about how he’d just gotten over COVID and then made fun of some guy in the front row for laughing super loud.

adam sandler live tour reviews

It all felt very down-home and casual for someone so famous — so iconic. It was crazy to think that Sandler has been in all of these movies I’ve watched throughout my life (including some I’d like to forget) and was now just casually walking around in basketball shorts just a few feet from me, coughing down on us.

I would say it was like he didn’t even know how famous he really was except for a hilarious story he told about his daughter’s teenage friend who pretended not to know who he was when he came over for her birthday party. He casually detailed the back and forth between him and the bratty teen, the audience cracking up at his insistence that the teen admit he knew his identity. In the end, Sandler claimed he pulled a gun out on the kid to finally get him to admit he was aware of who he was. It was like a typical dad moment but on major steroids, which was sort of the majority of his stand up routine.

Sandler talked a lot about his family — his wife and two daughters — as well as the usual bits about aging and other typical topics a 50-something would bring up. But Sandler also has that side of him that has always made him stand out, whether it was critics condemning him or teens idolizing him.

He would go on weird rambling stories and then admit there was no end in sight to the joke — he claimed he hadn’t bothered to finish writing an ending, chastising himself for not doing so for his fans. He would tell stories that had random, shocking twists that were sophomoric but still unexpected enough to make an impact.

He would argue with himself while using a strange raspy baby voice — you know the one. And he would sing songs about hating his daughter’s friends, wearing ugly shorts, and even one about Chris Farley.

It’s been a few days now and the stand up was a bit of a blur! I remember my face hurting from constantly smiling, although I wasn’t really the target audience for jokes about his grandma’s gardener wearing his used condom from when he was a teenager that she had weirdly since he lost his virginity all those years ago.

Despite some jokes not being my sense of humor, I still found myself amused by Sandler’s on stage antics — joking with his friend that was on the keyboard, fiddling with his guitars, mumbling about not having a good enough punchline prepared.

It really seemed like Sandler was just having fun just casually telling rambling jokes and making up versus for songs on the spot. You can tell how much he loves making people laugh, how much he loves his weird, wacky sense of humor. You can tell why he became so famous. It was definitely a memorable experience even if most of the jokes didn’t have me rolling. There is nothing quite like seeing the Sandman hacking a lung on stage while wearing basketball shorts and singing about phone, wallet, keys.

If you have the chance to watch the Sandman live, definitely do it. You won’t be sorry. Well, unless you’re in the front row laughing very, very loud. Then be prepared to get called out.

Adam Sandler at SNHU Arena - My Review

October 24, 2022

I have never seen Adam Sandler perform. I have interviewed him, ran into him at NHMS a few years back, but I've always been a fan. I haven't loved every movie he's been in - but thats because the dudes been in a thousand movies - and there's no way you're gonna like em all!

I know he's not some peoples cup of tea, but I like the guy. He doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. He's a guy who just wants to make people laugh.

Watched the films, SNL and his rare talk show appearances, and seen the Hollywood pics of him walking around in baggy shorts and a tshirts, looking like a "schlubb" (thats a Mr Deeds reference. If you know, then you know.). And btw- screw Hollywood. I LOVE that he dresses like that, you know why? Because he's got about a BILLION reasons to tell them to kiss his ass...

But I digress- lets get to the SNHU Show -

adam sandler live tour reviews

I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect what we got.

Sandler was hilarious! He did everything from straight stand up, to funny songs, to lots of touching moments where he talked about home and paid respect to his Dad, and Chris Farley.

Oh yeah, and he got raunchy too!

I've never heard funnier bit about a dude eating out......a balloon. That's right, a balloon. Sound stupid? It was, but i thought it was hilarious!

adam sandler live tour reviews

I've never seen a comedy show that was funny, both smart and dumb, silly, raunchy, and sincere - all wrapped up in one. He sang a ton of short songs with silly and surprising outcomes and he peppered the entire night with Manchester references from his childhood. He played with the audience, responded to shouts from them, and just casually rolled through an hour+ set that just made you feel good.

He bought his first guitar at Ted Herberts. His harmonica at Daddy's Junkie Music. He worked at The Puritan, and on and on - and it was pretty cool to hear it all from one of the most successful guys in Hollywood- ESPECIALLY since he doesn't ACT like one of the most successful guys in Hollywood.

You could tell he was nervous at the start (Rob Schnieder and Dan Patrick BOTH said Adam was as nervous as they had ever seen him because he has NEVER played his hometown), but he found the groove and did a great show. I would be lying if I said the songs about his Dad and Chris Farley didn't get to me. His Mom and many family members were there that night - and he had the crowd sing Happy Birthday to his Mom as well -

I told ya - the guy is a good dude....

And the word that I kept coming back to all night while watching him was - genuine. He seems like just a genuine good dude. A guy who hasnt forgotten his roots (yeah, I know he's lived in NY and CA longer- but NH is the dirt he's front and he knows it). I never expected to laugh AND be moved by his show- but I was. And when it was over, from what I could tell - people seemed to really dig it!

Heres Adam's post from Instagram about the show -

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adam Sandler (@adamsandler)

Sandlers show was the perfect mixture of silly, raunchy and sweetness from a guy who is unlike any other comedian I've ever seen.

I was thoroughly impressed.

And when I was leaving the arena- I saw Adam getting into the limo/truck after the show- so I yelled over to him - "Great show Adam!" - and he said "Thanks buddy I appreciate it!".

So- I guess I can say "I talked to Adam Sandler" Saturday night, right? I mean - just because I was yelling through a fence in the upper parking lot - that doesn't matter does it??? heh heh heh..

I think we're friends now....

Yeah.....that's how I see it.

Great show, Adam. Thanks for bringing it home-

Well, Adam Sandler (again) has a microphone and you don’t, so you will listen to every damn word he has to say . That is, if you’re heading to his next stand-up comedy show.

“The Wedding Singer” star — whom we have to thank for the above line — is launching a 25-city North American tour to close out 2023. The I Missed You tour comes on the heels of his best-reviewed film, this month’s Netflix comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” and sold-out stand-up shows from earlier this year.

Adam Sandler sparked a nepo-baby debate for casting daughters Sunny and Sadie in ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.’ But it’s on brand, director says.

The comedy icon’s tour kicks off at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Oct. 12 and will hit Seattle, Portland, Ore., Las Vegas and the Midwest before wrapping in Denver on Dec. 12, according to promoter and show producer Live Nation. The tour also promises a surprise guest. (Earlier this year, his “Grown Ups” co-stars Kevin James, Rob Schneider and David Spade joined him on stage.)

The “Murder Mystery” and “Uncut Gems” actor will be making two Southern California stops in October: First, at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert on Oct. 2; second, at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Oct. 23.

He’s also playing shows at the SAP Center in San Jose on Oct. 18 and Save Mart Center on Oct. 20 in Fresno.

The presale for the tour begins Thursday and the general sale begins Friday on Ticketmaster.

Review: ‘You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah’ is a sweet take on rites, fights and tween drama

Adam Sandler and his real-life family — including breakout Sunny Sandler — are charming in a comedy about feuding girls approaching their big days.

Aug. 25, 2023

The 57-year-old began his career on the stand-up circuit before landing a five-year gig on “Saturday Night Live” in the early 1990s. From there, the comic — known for his brash, man-child shtick and athleisure affinity — catapulted to superstardom with the hit comedies “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore,” “The Water Boy” and “The Wedding Singer.”

The actor has taken on more dramatic fare over the last decade, starring in “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “Uncut Gems” — for which he earned a Screen Actors Guild nomination — and “Hustle.”

Sandler toured earlier this year under the Adam Sandler Live! marquee and extended that tour with seven shows in April . Before that, the comedian hit the road for his 100% Fresher tour in 2019. That live show, which streamed on Netflix, earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for writing for a variety special.

Tonights show was fantastic! Adam Sandlers didnt just make up laugh. He also touched our hearts with the Chris Farley piece. I also laughed till i cried. He is the greatest. I will always be a fan.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

Absolutely loved the show tonight. It was great to see some non liberal comedy.

AWESOME SHOW

Lately I have seen comedy shows of big name comedians and I have been disappointed but not this show. Adam Sandler was hilarious. All new material, funny songs and a touching tribute to Chris Farley. He interacted a lot with the crowd and I was so glad to see a successful comedian who's still hilarious live! Great show Adam!!!

I laughed from the time Rob came out till the Chris Farley tribute. Than I cried a little! It was the best time I’ve had in years. Not for kids but adults don’t miss this show!!!

GREAT SHOW!

All the way from KY to see Adam Sandler. The show was fantastic!! Loved seeing him in person and hopefully will again soon. The comedy had me cracking up, everyone was hilarious. Loved it!

ADAM SANDLER @ SNHU

What a great show laughed the whole time. What a great story kid that went to Central high school and now look at him and he came back to do a show and for those few people who had nothing good to say stay home. One of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Love Adam Sandler stand up comedy movies I think he’s great.

FUNNY ,HEARTFELT, AWESOME

Anybody that didn't give him 5 stars needs to snap out of it. Adam balanced it all from new stuff to harsh comic jokes and of course Farley piece and his wife's tribute wanna grow old with you . Went from Headache laughing to Crying at Farley part . Great job Adam and thank you . I I might even go back tonight.

ADAM SANDLER

ADAM SANDLER AT THE CHELSEA

Love the show. Full of laughs. Crude sophomoric jokes at times sure but that’s why I loved him since SNL and his albums before he was a mega star. Lots of great funny songs as well as touching moments when his daughters’ both sang, the Chris Farley tribute, and a new rendition of “wanna grow old with you” to his wife. It was everything I wanted. Loved it and left the show so happy. Robert Smigel as Triumph and Rob Schneider were awesome too. 5/5 Stars easy

AWESOME DATE NIGHT

Adam did not disappoint! The show was amazing. We laughed until we cried. Would definitely see home again.

LAUGHED, CRIED, REMEMBERED!!!

Adam, Rob and Kevin were great but this show wasn’t just comedy. Just like millions of us all over, we loved and miss Chris Farley. Adam’s tribute was beautiful and I’m proud to say we were so loud on Monday, Chris had to have heard us!

ADAM IS THE BEST OF A GENERATION AND HUMBLY WEARS THE CROWN

Ever since ai heard They're all Gonna Laugh At You on a buddies Walkman at school back in high school, Adams sense of humor has touched my life almost everyday since. He has always been best when doing his records and writing funny songs and that's why this show means so much. Back to the basics of twist punchlines and songs with hilarious deadpan endings that you know are coming but don't disappoint one bit. Gross raunchy topics are fair game as always with Adam and you can tell he adores his fans. There is a wholesome family vibe ( not pg rated) in the way he talks about his wife and kids and himself making him the target of self humiliation is so great. It's the best brand of humor, I laughed till I cried. I feel that Adam Just might be the best stand up artist of my generation

FUNNY MAN, FUNNY SHOW

Adam came to town with his mix of jokes, stories and songs and was a joy to watch perform. Those who bemoan his bluer material should consider getting a life. It was all funny and his Farley tribute and closing song to his wife showed what a great guy he is as well. His reputation suggested that from the many local people who have interacted with him in the filming of several of his movies here over the years, including his latest one. It was a sold out show and he deserved it.

I still can't believe I was in the same building as the sand man! he was AMAZING! really knows how to work a crowd!! - and the way he still after all these years pays tribute to his old friend Chris Farley is just incredible. AMAZING AND FUNNY MAN <3

AWESOME PERFORMANCE!

It was a dream come true for me, to see Adam in person because I have been an avid fan and have watched almost all his movies. I know he has a good heart and very loyal to his friends and wife. Me and my spouse were laughing from the start to end of the show. Was touched when he sang and dedicated the song "Grow Old With You" to his wife and got teary eyed with his tribute to Chris Farley. Will always love and support Adam Sandler!

BEST SHOW EVER

Best show ever...I absolutely loved the show!!! Adam Sandler you're the BEST!!!

THANKS SAND MAN!

It was a slow start, but soon the Sand man hit his zone and was great fun. Showed all the way through that he is a good guy and amazingly creative. Rob was a hilarious kick off.

ROB S. & SAND MAN

Rob was amazing start to the night. He seemed to love the theater. Wish he had a little more time on the stage. Adam was a little hard to understand at times. He also seemed slow to start. The Chris Farley dedication was fabulous. My seats were great since I was only 13 rows back from the stage. I wish he had done the Hanukkah song too. My only negative comment about the theater is don't allow drinking in there as most of it seemed to end up on the floor and made very sticky.

ADAM SANDLER - LOVES HIS WIFE

Overall a cute and funny show. It seems his jokes and songs are reflective of his place in life right now, a 51 year old married man with children. Not what I expected but also not a bad thing. I was however a little put off by the excessive amount of crude sexual things he said. At least he always referenced being faithful to his wife, I guess? I don't think a guy as lovable as Adam needs to go that route. I still love him though and I would go again if I had the chance.

GREAT SHOW!!!

Adam Sandler was amazing! Loved the "surprised guests" and Chris Farley tribute. This is not a show for young children!!

SANDLER SHOW

The Zohan made us all silky smooth with the Farley tribute, love Adam Sandler

TOO GOOD OF A COMEDIAN FOR CRUDE JOKES

Adam did a great job with the Chris Farley tribute and Rob Schneider was an outstanding singer. But I think Adam Sandler seems like a nice person but he needs to totally get rid of the crude sex humor because it is not good for him and he should just leave that behind in his jokes. It would have been a great show had he not put so many crude jokes in it. But I had fun going to the concert and enjoyed it but was really put off by the terrible crude jokes involving sexual humor. I think Adam Sandler is better than that and should leave those kind of jokes for other people who aren't as good of community comedians instead

COULD BE BETTER, WAS STUPID CRUDE.

Kevin James was funny 4.5 / 5. He had smart humor, not stupid crude humor. Adam is an excellent singer. Just signs about stupid crude and bad sexual stuff. If you paid more than $100 for a front ride seat, got ripped.

BALTIMORE 2023

Jokes we based off his old age and misery that comes with getting old. He talked about in detail having sex with a balloon. And descriptively described how a pedofile eats ice cream while talking to his children. All his new songs were not catch nor funny. He just isn’t the sand man we all grew up to love. He’s past his prime and it shows greatly. I wouldn’t overpay like this to see him again

EXPECTED BETTER

The show start 25 minutes late. I thought the opening act was the better of the three. Some of Adam's jokes were a little crude and tasteless. Around half way through the show, a disappointed patron was yelling "you're supposed to be a comedian" as he was leaving the arena. I noticed not too long after that, people were packing their blankets & chairs. When Adam asked the crowd to join in, it sounded like a dismal audience responded. His material needs improvement. The one part I did like was the Chris Farlie tribute towards the end of the show. The show was not worth being out late on a Sunday night.

Adam Sandler put me to sleep. His live comedy act was so slow and boring. Love his movies. I’ve seen other comedians this year so much better. For example Chris Tucker made laugh my tears out. Rob Schneider stole the show for me. He was funny, energetic, and very entertaining. He “can do it”. Sorry Adam.

Show was rambling, too long, no direction. Rob Schneider was mean and insulting. Didn't pay a fortune for tickets to hear his hateful rip of women.

50% NOT FUNNY AND 50% HORRIBLE ACOUSTICS AT WELLS FARGO CENTER

Could not hear over half of what was said. Thought it was just me but others had the same problem. What we did hear just wasn't funny. It was more of a variety show. Saw quite a few people leaving early and other at the bar drinking. Was hoping to have a good time.

Admittedly not a big Sandler fan, but my daughter wanted to see him. I have enjoyed several of his movies, but stand up comedy is definitely not his forte IMO. Could have done without Kevin James running around the stage pretending to play an electrical guitar. To me the venue was very uncomfortable.

RAMBLING - MORE SUITED FOR A SMALL VENUE

Mumbled and Spoke to much about being over 50, unable to do things like in your 20's due to being grossly overweight. The comedy does not fit his current fitness. His songs were non-attention catchers with one song about wearing pants to wearing shorts was only funny to the solo slob who can relate. The Chirs Farley tribute was excellent. I'll pass on him in the future and wait for movies. Possibly attend a small venue of his if he ever decides to go on tour again. I dont think he will.

IS IT JUST ME? I JUST DON’T GET HIS HUMOR.

I know Adam is a good man. Loves his wife, family. He just is not naturally funny to me. The toilet scene was so grotesque. I want to laugh till my sides hurt when I go to a comedy show, not struggle to hear him through his mumbling nonsensical rants that are supposed to be jokes. Acting is where his career shines. I’m sorry to sound negative.

HE'S LOST IT

I have always loved Adam Sandler, however, his show 100% fresher was a total misfire. Adam may still have it doing comedy acting but not standup. His past songs (Lunchlady, Hannukah song, etc.) were hysterical, but the new songs I found to be stupid and not funny at all. I stopped laughing the minute Rob Schneider left the stage. Sorry Adam.

Sandler was shockingly crude. I feel sorry for his wife and daughters, he obviously has no respect for women. Sad to see a 52 year old man talk like a street punk. Lost any admiration I had for him. He’s not funny either.

I went out to get some laughs and instead had anxiety listening to him, he’s miserable and he thinks it’s funny to share, not what comedy is, it was 20 long minutes till I decided to leave. Positive note the ubs arena is nice

I think it is the worst show I’ve ever seen in Vegas. He’s a mess!! His clothes are sloppy. His jokes are not even funny. I’ve always loved his movies but this was pitiful. A waste of money and time

THE LOWEST OF THE LOW BROW COMEDY

It was the worst thing that I have ever seen. Rob Snieder is a gross human being. Basic, women-hating pig. Adam Sandler seemed to write his comedy based on what an extremely perverted and stupid person would find funny. It was actually terrifying to see how many people have such a low intelligence level that they found that crap funny. I felt like I needed a shower afterwards but nothing will ever make me feel clean again after witnessing such low brow, sexists, and mildly racists humor being so enjoyed by so many idiots around me. I’ve lost hope in humanity.

I thoroughly enjoy Adam Sandlers movies, but this was nothing like them. I swear he is on some psychedelics because nothing made sense. The two openers were sexist, racists, and discussing. I’m pretty sure people were paid to post good reviews.

WORST SHOW EVER

Not sure who the opener was but he was mediocre. Kevin James was second and was actually the best part of the show. Adam Sandler came out after and was funny for about 10 minutes until he went into nonstop sex jokes about his family (including his mother, father, and brother). He also talked about fucking a balloon for about 15 minutes and then pedophiles licking ice cream cones while staring at his children. I’m a fan of crude humor at times but he’s got some weird sexual fixation with his family, and it’s apparently not his wife. Seemed like some unprocessed childhood sexual abuse trauma to me. Had to leave early, couldn’t bear it any longer. As someone who’s been an Adam Sandler fan my entire life I was extremely disappointed. Don’t think any of these 5 star reviews are real unless he used completely different material in every other city

JUST HORRIBLE

Can I rate anything below a 1 star

ADAM SANDLER - SCOTIABANK, TORONTO

Awful. Kevin Nealon was ok for about 4 minutes. Adam sandler was not awful for about 10 minutes - what a waste of time and money.

Adam Sandler brings the energy — and the joy

The funnyman, who returns to Vegas next weekend for a stand-up show, can also be found these days on Netflix as an animated lizard in “Leo.”

Sadie Sandler, from left, Jackie Sandler, Adam Sandler and Sunny Sandler arrive at the premiere ...

Adam Sandler begins the interview with a fist pump. “Just giving the energy!” he proclaims.

News flash: The 57-year-old funnyman has energy to spare.

Sandler returns to Las Vegas on Dec. 2 as his “I Missed You” stand-up tour stops at Mandalay Bay.

This is the guy who begins shows by saying, “My name is Adam. I’m not particularly talented. I’m not particularly good-looking. And yet I’m a multimillionaire.”

Still, it never hurts to have a day job to fall back on. Or in Sandler’s case, a production deal with Netflix, where his latest project, the animated movie “Leo,” is now streaming.

Sandler wrote and produced the picture and voices the title character, an elementary school classroom lizard. Over seven decades, Leo connects deeply with the kids, who pour out their stresses and fears, during overnight visits to their homes.

“It’s about trust and how much we need each other,” he says. “It’s also about how parents are going to make mistakes, and Leo serves as an outlet for the kids. He gets them to talk and say what’s going on with them. The kids can let out their fears and worries to Leo. It’s quite real.”

The “Saturday Night Live” alum and Brooklyn native lives in L.A. with his wife, Jackie, and daughters Sadie, 17, and Sunny, 15.

On a Saturday afternoon, Sandler shared his good life tips, starting with this one: “Find what’s funny in life and grab that joy.”

Timing is everything

“My kids give me the most joy, but you have to adjust your life to their schedules,” Sandler says. “My thing is, I don’t go out to meet anyone after 9:30 at night. I eat dinner with the family at 6 or 7 and then the rest of the night is for them on most nights. You need to be there as much as possible.”

OK is enough

“When I’d leave the house as a teenager, my parents would always say, ‘Be safe,’ ” he recalls. “As a parent, I’ve come to learn that the goal is everyone is OK. That OK becomes the most important thing in your life. If the family is OK, then I’m OK.”

Balance is key

Sandler says he looks for balance in life and in his comedy. “I was excited to do ‘Leo’ because it balances the more poignant, heartfelt moments in life with comedy. At the core, it’s about what kids go through growing up, including the painful moments. The sad thing is when kids keep their pain to themselves.”

Take your kids to work

Sandler’s daughters are also part of “Leo,” after he first cast them in the streaming hit “You’re So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.” “I think my producer’s rabbit is in there, too,” Sandler jokes. “The kids keep us young at heart, although we’re very immature typical males,” he says of his “Leo” crew.

Happy people

Sandler has a core group of friends who have been with him all his life. “Be around people who make you happy,” he stresses. “Life is pretty simple if you follow that one.”

Find the one

Sandler has been married since 2003 to Jackie Titone, whom he met working on 1999’s “Big Daddy.” (She played the waitress who takes his drink order in a sports bar.) Her “I do,” he says, “was the best gift of my life.”

His secret to a long marriage: “It’s not really a secret, but we just love spending time with each other. And we make each other laugh and try to listen, include and support each other. We just try our best, and we always talk about the future.”

Find your mentor

Who is the Leo in Sandler’s life? “My family has always been very involved in my life, but my other mentor when I first did stand-up was a guy named Guy Luscious, who would sit and talk to me after my set. He talked to me and Chris Rock for two or three hours a night at the Comic Strip, which he managed. He had a nice way of talking about what we were doing and where we were going.

“Guy didn’t have to spend all that time talking to new comedians about what he thought was working and not — but he did. … It’s important to be there for people. Pass on a few wisdoms.”

Talk about it

Sandler says he’s an open book. “We all have private concerns. You don’t want to tell people about your problems, but you should talk it out. Say, ‘This is what makes me nervous or scared or upset.’ … Just to have someone say, ‘Everyone feels that way’ is so wonderful. We all want to know that we’re not alone.”

‘Heart and soul’

Sandler has spent the past decade mixing comedies with dramas like his turn in “Uncut Gems.” How do they differ? “Comedy is a different vibe,” he offers. “You get to laugh a lot more on the set of a comedy. When I do a drama, it’s not as much laughing. But you find yourself in similar situations where you’re connecting and having a good time.” His goal: “I put my heart and soul into everything I do.”

Do a nice thing

“When I hear someone laugh, I tear up inside. My mom used to tell me to go out there and do a nice thing for someone every single day. I figure if I make someone smile or laugh then I did that nice thing — and I made my mom proud.”

Adam Sandler’s 25-City North American Tour Kicks Off in October

The “I Missed You Tour” tickets go on sale Friday

Adam Sandler

SHABADOO ! Adam Sandler has got a new North American tour that is scheduled to launch next month in Vancouver, British Columbia, and wrap up on Dec. 12 in Denver.

The huge 25-city tour has been dubbed “The I Missed You Tour” and will follow his sold-out “Adam Sandler LIVE” shows from earlier this year. They also promise an as-yet-disclosed special guest.

Ready to see the Sandman IRL?

Sandler, of course, was a “Saturday Night Live” cast member from 1990 to 1995, creating a host of characters that were both whimsical but also a little threatening and gave even the softest scenario some unexpected edge. In the years after “SNL,” he became a huge actor, first starring in some lowbrow comedies like “Billy Madison” and “Happy Gilmore” and then diversifying his portfolio by starring in acclaimed dramas like “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Funny People,” “Uncut Gems” and, most recently, the excellent “Hustle.” He’s also starred in a number of animated features like the “Hotel Transylvania” movies and pioneered the transition to streaming thanks to a lucrative and longstanding deal with Netflix that is still going strong today (“You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” recently hit the service and the animated “Leo” is on the way this fall).

You Are SO Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah

Produced by Live Nation, the tour makes stops in Portland, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Memphis, Toronto and more. This will be a very fun time indeed, with Sandler undoubtedly incorporating new material alongside some of his old standbys.

Tickets will be available starting with a Live Nation presale beginning Thursday, September 14 at 12 PM local time. The general on sale for “The I Missed You Tour” will start Friday, Sept. 15, at noon local tim on  Ticketmaster.com .

Adam Sandler Announces 25-Date Comedy Tour in North America: 'Let's Have Some Fun'

Sandler's 'I Miss You Tour' will kick off in Vancouver on Oct. 12

Adam Sandler is going back on the road!

The comedian, 57, announced on social media Wednesday that he'll be embarking on a comedy tour in North America from October to December, with 25 dates in total throughout the U.S. and Canada. The run of shows, titled the I Missed You Tour , is set to kick off Oct. 12 in Vancouver.

"Let’s have some fun," Sandler captioned an Instagram trailer, which included clips of him playing the guitar, taking some crowd selfies at a handful of shows and getting plenty of laughs.

The latest run of shows follows the Uncut Gems actor's Adam Sandler LIVE gigs, which concluded in April. The I Missed You Tour — which is produced by Live Nation — features stops in Portland, San Jose, Toronto, Memphis, Salt Lake City, Rochester, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, and beyond — with a final date on Dec. 12 in Denver.

Live Nation ticket presale kicks off at 12 p.m. local time on Thursday, with a Ticketmaster general sale starting at 12 p.m. local time on Friday.

Actor Pauly Shore shared his excitement under Sandler's Instagram post with the comment, "Daaaaa Sand man is back boom boom broozzz."

Sandler's tour announcement arrives shortly after he and his family starred in the Netflix teen film You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah , which followed the crew as they navigated planning the perfect bat mitzvah.

Adam and wife Jackie Sandler's daughters — Sunny , 14, and   Sadie , 17 — play the roles of two teens as the film "chronicles the high comedy and modern teen angst that comes with family, friendship, and first crushes," per a synopsis .

"What’s really funny is right before we started prepping for the film,  Sunny  had her actual bat mitzvah," director Sammi Cohen told PEOPLE in August of the film. "So I went to that service, and we got to do the real-life bat mitzvah and then left to make the movie. It was a really fun life movie moment."

"It was really, really fun. And it was, again, it was just such a perfect moment of life meets movie. It was just magical."

In March, Sandler was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The honor came as   Jennifer Aniston ,  Chris Rock ,  Pete Davidson , and more toasted the Saturday Night Live alum for his decades in show business.

Rob Schneider also shared a few kind words with his friend at the event, while performing a rendition of Sandler's "Grow Old With You" from  The Wedding Singer soundtrack.

"Nobody gave Adam Sandler his success. Adam earned this through his hard work in a really tough business, show business," Schneider said. "People ask me: why does Adam put me in so many movies? And it's because he wants to laugh and share his tremendous success with his friends, plus I will do really humiliating s--- that he won't do."

"Adam is a very generous guy,"  David Spade  also shared. "He has hired his whole family tree to work for him. The call sheet looks like Ancestry.com."

Sandler thanked his friends and family when collecting his award after several hilarious speeches, noting that "everybody was great."

"I feel like everyone who came and spoke up there, I think we all truly love each other," he said. "We have each other's backs for life. People always would ask me those bad reviews you get, how does that make you feel, like s---? It really doesn't. I think the reason I get to say it didn't hurt me is because so many of you guys in this room made me feel great about what we've done together."

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Adam Sandler’s most bizarre London sightings from Clapham to Mayfair pavement dwelling

Adam Sandler had been spotted exploring London over the last few weeks in a number of unlikely scenes.

The Happy Gilmore actor, 57, enjoyed a spot of basketball at Kensington Leisure Centre last month, and he’s now been filmed playing the game – which he’s been known to be partial to – in Clapham, too.

He was also filmed rocking out to a Madison Beer concert at the Eventim Apollo.

Perhaps the most bizarre picture Londoners have grabbed of the star in recent weeks came today when one megafan spotted him chilling on the pavement outside of Claridges, flanked by two bodyguards. As you do.

He was pictured slumped on the pavement outside the Mayfair hotel wearing a North Face jacket by fan Corin Richards, 26, who works nearby.

Corin was ‘excited’ to see Adam as he’s a big fan – particularly of Happy Gilmore and Grown Ups.

Fans took to social media confused by the Hollywood A-lister and comedy legend’s mysteriously normal appearances around the capital, as @DnellyBPD wrote: ‘I keep seeing these why is he here? LOL can someone explain this is like this is the third or fourth video I’ve seen of Adam Sandler in a different area of London.’

Meanwhile, @StephanieYeboah said: ‘Adam Sandler currently completing random side quests on the London expansion pack. How random.’

Sharing a video of Adam playing basketball in Clapham on April 1 – which makes us think this whole thing is some sort of twisted, extended April Fool’s joke – X user @CakePint said: ‘Just walked past Adam Sandler playing basketball in Clapham.’

In the video, the Hollywood star can be seen walking around and defending the hoop with three other men. He was dressed in a baby blue hoodie and red tracksuit, sporting his usual casual attire.

One fellow Madison Beer fan captured the star clapping along to The Spinnin Tour concert wearing a purple hoodie and (a very similar but different) North Face jacket, and wrote: ‘Adam sandler attending the spinnin’ tour closing night in london wasn’t part of my bingo card 😭.’

A fellow concert-goer shared pictures and asked what the whole of London is thinking right now: ‘ADAM SANDLER WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?’

ADAM SANDLER WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? pic.twitter.com/jRODIVlnVd — brooke (@barbiebruises) April 3, 2024

Indeed, what on earth is he doing here?

We’re heard a few murmurs from Sandler of late, as it’s rumoured Happy Gilmore 2 is ‘in the works,’ and the actor has even written the first draft, according to Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald.

Last month, McDonald said during a radio interview  on Audacy’s 92.3: ‘I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, “McDonald, you’re gonna love this.”

‘I said, “What?” He says, “How about that,” and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.

‘Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, “Well, that would be awesome.” So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!’

While it doesn’t seem like Adam is filming his most beloved comedy Happy Gilmore in London any time soon, maybe he’s sending us signs via his basketball and concert antics.

His 1995 film Billy Madison – in which Adam plays a rich adult slacker who goes back to school – has somewhat tenuous links to his recent appearances.

In it, there’s an iconic scene where the titular character plays basketball with other kids, and singer Madison Beer’s name does echo the film’s. Perhaps he’s trying to tell us – very cryptically – about a sequel…

Adam’s most recent films include Netflix’s Spaceman, in which he plays Jakub Prochazka, and 2023’s animation Leo where he voices the titular character.

Whatever Adam has in store, we’re enjoying spotting him around London.

If you’ve seen him, please let us know…

This Adam Sandler Comedy Is Blowing Up Netflix Right Now - And We Might Know Why

Happy Gilmore eating Subway sandwich

The age of streaming has given movies from yesteryear a new lease of life. From forgotten  Jennifer Lopez rom-coms blowing up on Netflix  to  Peter Jackson flops getting a second chance to find their audience , it seems that some blasts from the past are aging pretty well. In recent years,  Adam Sandler movies have dominated Netflix , too, so it's unsurprising that one of his cult classics is currently storming the U.S. charts, according to  FlixPatrol .

"Happy Gilmore" follows the titular character (Sandler) as he pursues a career in golf after failing to make it as a hockey player. He needs money to save his grandmother's house, and he shows more promise with a 5-iron than with a hockey stick. Unfortunately, Gilmore also has a hot temper that's difficult to control, making him a loose cannon on the course. That said, his outbursts ultimately bring excitement to the PGA tour, making him an overnight celebrity.

While Sandler movies haven't always been critical darlings, "Happy Gilmore" has a loyal fan base that has long appreciated its wacky antics. As for the film's current streaming popularity, well, the announcement that a sequel might happen has most likely sparked a wave of anticipation among people who want to see Gilmore cause more carnage on the golf course.

Happy Gilmore 2 is on the way

"Happy Gilmore's" surge in popularity on Netflix follows the announcement that a sequel is in the works. Speaking on  "The Drew Barrymore Show," the titular host — who starred alongside Sandler in "50 First Dates" and "Blended" — confirmed she got the update from a credible source, possibly even the man himself.

"This just in: I have breaking news. I'll just say this from my source: It is in process. There is a process, and that process is in process," Barrymore said after receiving a text message from someone she knows who has inside information. Barrymore admitted she was in contact with Sandler throughout the show, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he's the one who shared the info with her.

Of course, it's better to hear information directly from the primary source, so it's good to know that Sandler himself has also said that "Happy Gilmore 2" is shaping up. While he hasn't shared any details about the story, he told  "The Dan Patrick Show"  that he's collaborating with Tim Herlihy on the sequel and that Netflix is excited about the project. Given that the first movie is ruling the charts, the streamer is undoubtedly looking forward to making the sequel.

Adam Sandler tees up 'Happy Gilmore' sequel nearly 3 decades after the original hit theaters

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Hollywood loves a sequel, even if it takes almost 30 years to make.

The time is apparently right for a follow-up to the 1996 Adam Sandler golf comedy Happy Gilmore .

Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original, was the first to divulge that a sequel was in the works.

“Here’s a quick intel,” McDonald said, appearing on The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima in March.. “I saw Adam [Sandler] two weeks ago … he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2 … It’s in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!”

Sandler himself confirmed the news on the Dan Patrick Show on April 3.

Sandler explained to Patrick that he told McDonald, "We've been talking about a Happy 2 and we're working on some stuff. ... But don't tell anybody."

When Patrick joked that Sandler shouldn’t have trusted him with the news, Sandler replied, “Well, I was excited that Shooter was in the room with me, I love him.”

The actor, now 57, continued, “We love Happy Gilmore , we don't want to let anybody down. People have talked to me about this for many years. ... We're going to work hard and make sure it's good."

McDonald isn't wrong to say fans are invested. One of Sandler’s longtime collaborators and friends, Drew Barrymore, was also eagerly awaiting more details on the film.

On the April 4 edition of her talk show, Barrymore mentioned the possibility of a Happy Gilmore 2 , saying “I want it, I need it," in reaction to the sequel news. “I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison and then I sent Sandler of video that and then he sent another video back and I’m waiting to see if he’s confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script.”

Barrymore then announced her “breaking news. … I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process."

Remind me — what’s the movie about?

Happy Gilmore , directed by Dennis Dugan, tells the story of an unsuccessful hockey player (Sandler) with a problematic hot temper and newfound love for golf. His signature run swing makes him a standout and he enters a tournament with the hopes of saving his grandmother’s home.

The original film reportedly trended in the top 10 movies on Netflix as rumors about the sequel percolated. Yahoo Entertainment contacted Netflix for comment to confirm, but got no immediate response.

For the film’s 25th anniversary , Sandler’s Happy Gilmore co-star, Julie Bowen, told Yahoo that she didn’t expect the film to hit as strongly as Happy’s golf swing.

“At the time I just thought, ‘Oh, no one will ever see this,’” Bowen said. “ I couldn’t have been more wrong.”

Sandler told Patrick that the film was a success upon release, “but not a smash-a-rooney. It did well down the line, it kept doing some business, at that time, the VHS and the DVD of it all. But when it came out the gate, it did good enough.”

The actor explained the movie cost around $10 million to make and earned almost $40 million, “which was a success back then.”

According to Box Office Mojo , the film made $38 million at the domestic box office, and $41 million worldwide.

What we know about the plot

There's no timeline yet for part two, but fans can expect to feel nostalgic.

In his interview with Patrick, Sandler shared that he’s teaming up once again with his college roommate Tim Herlihy , with whom he co-wrote the original, adding that "Netflix is excited about it.”

“We're working on it. Me and Herlihy are diligently trying to make a reason for everyone to come and watch and have a good time,” he said. “We’ve been jamming, we have a million ideas already, we just gotta make it a movie and make sure we’re excited about people enjoying it.”

While some of the actors in the original movie, including Bob Barker, Carl Weathers and Joe Flaherty, have died, Sandler told Patrick he plans to honor them in Happy Gilmore 2 .

“We love those guys, they’re such a big part of the movie and such great people,” he explained. “We’re going to get them involved somehow.”
