Country Thunder Wisconsin: What to know about 2024 festival with lineup highlights, more

Summerfest just wrapped with about 600 acts at Milwaukee's lakefront, and the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival, with two days of concerts in Veterans Park, is just around the corner.

And while the Big Gig boasted some big country acts — including Kane Brown and Keith Urban — and Harley will have Hardy and Jelly Roll, there's one festival in the Milwaukee area that's arguably the premier stop for country music fans: Country Thunder Wisconsin.

Returning to Twin Lakes in Kenosha County July 18 to 21, Country Thunder Wisconsin was the first recipient of Festival of the Year Award issued by the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2014. A decade later, it's still among the most popular country music festivals in the country, with headliners that include the reigning ACM Awards and Country Music Association Awards' Entertainer of the Year; one of country music's most passionate performers; and, to shake things up this year, a popular rock band.

Here's everything you need to know if you plan to go to Country Thunder Wisconsin 2024.

When and where is Country Thunder Wisconsin?

Country Thunder Wisconsin runs July 18-21 at Shadow Hill Ranch, 2305 Richmond Road, in Twin Lakes. The first sets are at 3:30 p.m. July 18, 2 p.m. July 19 and 20, and 2:30 p.m. July 21. DJ Slim McGraw closes out the festival each night, at 2:30 a.m. Thursday (technically Friday morning) through Saturday, and 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The full schedule is at countrythunder.com/wi-lineup .

Who's headlining Country Thunder Wisconsin in 2024?

Sixteen months ago, Lainey Wilson was playing at a sold-out Eagles Ballroom at the Rave for about 3,500 people, one of her largest audiences ever as a headliner. Her audiences have gotten much bigger since, and with two Entertainer of the Year wins since late last year (from the CMA Awards and ACM Awards), she's the great get at Country Thunder Wisconsin this year.

She'll headline at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 19. Koe Wetzel was supposed to headline July 18, but dropped out due to illness, with country veteran Randy Houser taking his place at 10 p.m.

The final festival headliner at 9 p.m. Sunday is one of country's most dynamic live performers, Eric Church, who kicked off Summerfest's 55th anniversary (and his tour) in the American Family Insurance Amphitheater last year; the year before that, he headlined his second stadium concert ever at American Family Field.

As for the Saturday headliner, it's quite a curveball: veteran rockers Nickelback at 10 p.m. (But there'll be plenty of country music the rest of the day and night.)

Who else is on the Country Thunder Wisconsin lineup?

The main stage will host 22 artists total — five each on Thursday and Sunday, six on Friday and again on Saturday. Highlights beyond the headliners include Summerfest faves Kip Moore and Phil Vassar (8 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively); fast-rising singer-songwriter Bailey Zimmerman (8 p.m. July 20); elder statesmen The Bellamy Brothers (5 p.m. July 20); and Elle King (7 p.m. July 21), again doing opening duties for Church like she did at Summerfest last year.

In addition to the main stage, Country Thunder also has a smaller Lake Stage, which also will have 22 performances Thursday through Sunday. There'll be six songwriters showcases as well, each of them featuring performances from three Nashville-based songwriters, including Heath Warren, who co-wrote Zimmerman's Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, "Rock and a Hard Place." What other events are happening at Country Thunder Wisconsin?

Beyond the music, Country Thunder's annual "Dancing With the Thunder" freestyle country swing dance competition is back. Are tickets available for Country Thunder Wisconsin? How much are they? How can I access them after purchase?

Single-day general admission with access to lawn-style seating goes for $175 a day, or $300 for a general-admission weekend pass. But there are multiple upgrade options. Platinum tickets — which cover general admission and include access to a lounge and viewing area, full-service bar and luxury bathrooms (plus a souvenir laminate) cost $300 a day, or $650 for the weekend. You also can opt for a reserved seat for the weekend for $400, or access to an upgraded standing-room viewing area in front of the stage for $500 for the weekend. The highest-cost ticket is the platinum reserved standing experience for $700. These prices do not include additional fees.

Tickets are available at countrythunder.com/wi-tickets . Digital tickets will appear in the AXS app and can be redeemed for wristbands on site. Wristbands cannot be loosened once tightened, but a replacement for a wristband that becomes too tight can be replaced for $20 at will call at the front gate or the information booth on site. Lost wristbands will not be replaced, and wristbands cannot be shared.

Festgoers also can pay the difference to upgrade their tickets, based on availability at will call or the information booth, or by calling (866) 388-0007.

How much is parking at Country Thunder Wisconsin?

Weekend general parking is sold out, but daily general parking is available for $20 a day, with cars required to be out of the lots by 2:30 a.m. Reserved parking for the weekend, in the closest available lot, is $100. These costs do not include fees. Parking can be purchased in advance at countrythunder.com/wi-tickets . Parking stickers will be issued on site.

Are there other transportation options to Country Thunder Wisconsin?

Uber and Lyft drivers will be permitted to drop off and pick up festgoers; arranging rides in advance is encouraged. And Lakefront Shuttle will offer service from multiple locations in Lake Geneva, Kenosha, Elkhorn and Abbey Springs. Get details and purchase passes at lakefrontshuttle.com .

Is camping available at Country Thunder Wisconsin? What amenities are available? What is prohibited?

There are two types of camping options remaining at Country Thunder. The most basic option is tent-exclusive camping, with sites measuring 10 by 30 feet, accommodating one tent and one vehicle, for $150. Other sites measuring 19 by 40 feet are $200, parking for one vehicle included. The ability to park an extra vehicle is available for $120. Any RVs that are being dropped off require an additional $20 camper drop-off pass, with deliveries permitted on July 17 and 18 only; those dropping off the RV need to know the campground, row and site in advance. There is no limit for the number of people per campsite, so long as they can stay within their designated space.

The above prices do not include fees. Camping can be reserved at countrythunder.com/wi-tickets and camping stickers will be issued on site for access.

The campsites will open a day before the festival begins, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 17. Campers can run their own generators, except for between 2 and 7 a.m. Fires are prohibited, but gas and charcoal grills are permitted. Upholstered furniture is prohibited, with a minimum $300 fine.

Campsite showers are available July 18 to 21, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, for $10 per shower (cash only). Port-a-potties will be on site. Fresh water and septic services will also be provided; call 262-537-4988 to schedule. Ice will also be sold on site.

Golf cart drivers can be flagged for rides for a charge. Campers cannot bring their own golf carts and ATVs; motorcycles are permitted with their own vehicle pass. Mudding and reckless driving will result in ejection from Country Thunder.

Leashed pets are permitted on the campsite (but not at the festival site), but campers are encouraged not to bring them. Campers are asked to bring their own trash bags and keep their sites clean with dumpsters on site.

What items are prohibited at Country Thunder Wisconsin? Where is the lost and found? Are food and beverages available for purchase?

Multiple items are prohibited, but perhaps most important to note: backpacks, large purses, coolers and camera bags are not allowed on the festival site. Instead festgoers can bring clear plastic bags (measuring up to 14 by 14 inches), gallon-size disposable clear bags and small clutches (no larger than 6 by 9 inches). Also prohibited: umbrellas, professional cameras, video cameras, selfie sticks, chairs with canopies, drones, fireworks, outside food and drinks (aside from one sealed bottle of water per person) and more. Food and drink vendors on site will accept cards and cash. Multiple ATMs will be on site. Those making food or drink purchases will need to buy tickets at the blue ticket booths on site (a dollar per food ticket, $9 for each beverage ticket). People buying beer and cocktails will need to get a drinking age verified wristband at the ID checks and wear it throughout the festival.

Faster Horses lineup 2024: Full schedule for Michigan country music festival

Faster Horses , a three-day country music and camping festival, has become one of Michigan's signature summer events since its debut in 2013.

This year's headliners are Jelly Roll (Friday), Lainey Wilson (Saturday) and Hardy (Sunday). They're part of a 15-artist Main Stage lineup that also includes Cody Johnson, Old Dominion, Riley Green and more. Nashville DJ Rod Youree will be spinning throughout, taking the place of longtime Faster Horses artist Dee Jay Silver.

Fifteen more artists are booked for the Next From Nashville stage, which will close out with a Sunday evening performance by Stephen Wilson Jr.

When is Faster Horses 2024?

The Faster Horses Festival will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday in its traditional spot on the third weekend of July. The main stage music action starts at 2:10 p.m. daily, while the Next From Nashville stage will rev up at 1:50 p.m.

Fans who are camping will have access to the site starting at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Where is Faster Horses 2024?

Since its founding in 2013, the festival has taken place on the grounds of Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, in the heart of Michigan's Irish Hills area in Jackson County. To get there from metro Detroit, take I-94 west to U.S. 23 (Exit 180A). Then take Exit 34 for U.S. 12 west toward Saline and continue for 32 miles. From there, follow signs to the Faster Horses grounds.

Prior to the tour announcement, Kaytranada already had a busy summer and fall lined up.

Iowans have a third opportunity to see breakout star and Midwest princess Chappell Roan come October.

The “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck, Babe!” singer announced seven new shows as part of “The Midwest Princess Tour” on July 16, and Council Bluffs made the list.

For the first time in a dozen years, St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park will host a major rock and pop music festival, dubbed the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival, on Friday and Saturday.

Headlined by Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morissette and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the festival (which despite its name has nothing to do with yacht rock) is promoted by C3 Presents, an Austin, Texas, company that’s also behind Austin City Limits Music Festival, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience and the modern-day Lollapalooza. C3 was the largest independent promoter in the world until Live Nation bought a controlling stake in the company in 2014.

Organizers expect to attract more than 30,000 concertgoers each day.

While the Irish Fair of Minnesota calls Harriet Island home each August, music festivals have had a rough go on the site. The original Lollapalooza (back when it was a traveling festival) landed on the site in 1991, 1992 and 1994, but flooding forced the fest to move to the late St. Paul Civic Center in 1993.

Live Nation attempted to establish a new annual event, the River’s Edge Music Festival, in 2012. Despite big-name headliners Tool and the Dave Matthews Band, the festival didn’t attract enough paying customers to convince the concert promoting giant to return for a second year.

Here’s what folks headed to the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival need to know:

As of Wednesday afternoon, tickets were still available at a number of price points, starting at $135 for one day general admission (or $255 for two days) all the way up to platinum tickets for $925 ($1,395 for two days), which include a number of perks including free food and drinks, front-of-stage viewing and access to an air-conditioned lounge. Many of the general admission and general admission plus tickets are sold out, but there are verified resale tickets available, some at lower prices than face value.

Getting there

There are two entrances to the festival. The main entrance is at Harriet Island Boulevard and South Wabasha Street, while the west entrance is on West Water Street between Bidwell Street and Plato Boulevard.

There is no on-site parking at the festival, but its website lists numerous downtown St. Paul parking lots that are a 10- to 16-minute walk from the site. Several Metro Transit buses stop a half-mile from Harriet Island. The rideshare drop off is at 49 E. Fillmore Ave. The festival promises “ample bike parking” located near the two entrances.

What is allowed on site

Feel free to bring: Small clutch purses and fanny packs (6” x 9” or smaller) with no more than one pocket, all other bags must be clear and smaller than 12” x 6” x 12”, empty hydration packs and reusable water bottles, strollers, frisbees, binoculars, blankets, basic cameras (no detachable lenses or other accessories), sunscreen in non-aerosol containers (3.4 ounces or less), personal-sized hand sanitizer and factory sealed Naloxone/Narcan kits.

What isn’t allowed

Pretty much everything you would think, including outside food and beverage, coolers, aerosol containers, umbrellas, chairs, wagons, skateboards, drones, fireworks and illegal substances.

Concertgoers must wear securely fastened wristbands that are available at the box office. Wristbands can be activated online to add an emergency contact and to use for cashless transactions (with a pin number). Wristbands that are damaged, lost or stolen can be replaced by the original purchaser one time only for $20. Patrons can leave and reenter at will up until 7 p.m. each day.

There is a guest services tent that has earplugs and a lost and found. Free hydration stations are located throughout the site. Lockers are available to rent for $25 each day or $48.50 for both.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. There are two stages, with staggered performances that do not overlap.

The Tacos and Tequila Festival return to Franklin Field this weekend. Here's what to know.

Want to chow down on tacos, listen to Ludacris or enter your chihuahua in a beauty pageant? You can do all of those things at the Tacos and Tequila Festival at Franklin Field on June 22. 

The event falls on a busy weekend; it's also the first Saturday of Summerfest, the first day of Cedarburg’s Strawberry Festival and the same day as a big Kenny Chesney concert at American Family Field, among other goings-on.

Last year's Tacos and Tequila Festival, the first held in the Milwaukee area, had a few challenges , from residents’ noise complaints to parking issues. The event narrowly avoided cancellation after a 3-3 vote from the Franklin Council to approve the event, with Mayor John Nelson breaking the tie in favor. To address residents’ concerns of noise, the Franklin Common Council in May set a 55-decibel limit at Franklin Field.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Valley Blues Fest will be returning to downtown for its thirtieth year next weekend.

The event is set to take place Saturday, July 27, at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place from noon until 11:30 p.m.

The president of the Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association said one of best things he experiences from the event is watching those who do not know they are blues fans discover the joys of the genre.
